Raheem Generating Buzz

December 27th, 2019

Former Bucs coach finally getting earned respect.

A couple of guys with Bucs connections are getting run as potential NFL head coaches.

But two of this year’s best coordinators are an afterthought — and both are with the Bucs.

In an NFL.com report typed by both NFL Network insiders, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, neither Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, who has one of the top offenses in the NFL despite rotten running backs, nor defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who has dramatically turned around one of the league’s most woeful defenses of the past decade, is getting serious chatter in league circles for a head coaching job just three days from Black Monday.

Former Bucs coach and newly minted Dixie Chicks defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is finally getting serious looks as a head coach.

It has stunned Joe how a guy like Josh McDaniels, offensive coordinator of the Belicheats, who has ridden Tom Brady’s cape and was thoroughly horrid as a head coach in Denver (who also shat on the Colts after accepting a job and turning the team down just hours before his introductory presser), continues to get run as a head coaching candidate over Raheem. It just blows Joe’s mind.

(Connect the dots for yourself on that one.)

Morris getting 10 wins out of the 2010 Bucs (robbed of an 11th) is one of the best coaching jobs in recent memory, when you look at his roster that included two severe headcases in leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman and granny-slapping, helmet-wielding, gun-totin’ cornerback Aqib Talib,

Along with Morris, former Bucs defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is also getting a lot of chatter to return to the head coaching ranks.

Frazier did a decent job with the Bucs in the first year of the inept Lovie Smith debacle. And once the Bucs started playing decent defense late in the 2014 season, Lovie shoved Frazier aside.

Good ol’ Lovie. Always fast to glom credit from his coordinators before they get too uppity with success. And he was quick to scapegoat his coordinators when his teams struggled.

I hope Carolina hires him. Please don’t hire Todd Bowles.

  2. Steven007 Says:

Typo, you got Bowles twice and no BL.

  3. Steven007 Says:

    *first mention

“And once the Bucs started playing decent defense late in the 2014 season, Lovie shoved Frazier aside.”

I remembered that well when seeing Frasier on the Bills sideline this year… Their defense has been amazing. I never understood wtf Lovie was thinking.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Raheem deserves another shot. He had no chance of success when he took the reigns at One Buc. His winning 10 games was nothing short of miraculous with the roster he had.

  6. 813bucboi Says:

morris is ready….might be headed back to DC…..

i hope BL and TB stays until we at least make the playoffs…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Does Joe have an Editor? If not maybe you should stop stalking ex cheerleaders and Kay Adams and hire one

    “Look at those eyes

The eyes are the window to the soul

    Those eyes are saying

    Defensive coordinators are for losers,

I want a Head coach Gig”

  9. Tye Says:

Joe, your article names Todd Bowles as both the offense and defensive coordinator…

Its always interesting around this time of year to see how coaches are viewed by their peers and especially owners in the league…
Bowles bombed horribly with the Jets so I think he is basically viewed best as a coordinator…
Leftwich still carries the stain of Rosen and Winstons failure… Jw is not viewed as a success by everyone.. many see the Bucs wins as in spite of him since he is a detriment to induce loses.. (only his supporters see him as ‘can do no wrong!’)

  10. Adrnagy Says:

Raheem to HC good for him. He’s a DC tops. Todd won’t go anywhere.

  11. JGar Says:

Good, let’s keep both coordinators and build off this season. If we do Franchise JW it’s imperative we have balanced offense to minimize the turnovers. Draft and free agency will be crucial to upgrade RB and O line. Go defense round 1 and bolster offense .

  12. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I really hope that Raheem, with a few more years of age, wisdom, experience & a few more gray hairs…….. could make for a GREAT Raheem.

I believe he deserves another shot. Please don’t let it be with the Falcons or Panthers, lol.

  13. Buc believer Says:

Must be a real slow news day with the Bucs. Who the hell gives a rip about coaches and or players who are not with us anymore?? I do t care what this dude does! He can go wash dishes in a restaurant for all I care

  14. SmittyToiletBowles Says:

Raheem is one hell of a coach. Wouldnt mind a second shot here but not now that BA and Bowlsey seem to have something brewing. Have to change the smittytoiletbowles if they finish top 10.

  15. Rodney Munch Says:

I’ve always thought Morris would get another chance, at some point in his career, to be a head coach again. He was ran out of town way too fast, and for what? Schiano? Well, no, for Chip Kelly. But the end result was the Jersey Trash(TM) Schiano. Ugh. Dark days, very dark days…

  16. TOM Says:

As far as I’m concerned, keep Bowles let Lefty walk or better yet run.

  17. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Two head cases? Wasn’t Winslow on that team? King crazy.

    Hahahaha…

    #3 Offense.
    #30 Defense.

I swear these idiots literally have no idea what they’re talking about, ever.

BTW, they should both be back since Leftwich has done a great job, you know, which you can tell by the #3 offense deal.

For Bowles, he’s got a lot out of those young kids in the secondary who struggled mightily for most of the season but have finally started to figure it out. Had Licht drafted some offensive lineman, then didn’t have to pay Jensen $10m a year and $5m a year to Dotson, then he could have afforded some corners and wouldn’t have wasted a year teaching them to play. They could have learned from the bench – which is what good teams do.

  19. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Rodney Munch

Are u suggesting the team pay Winston $30+ million and have less to spend?

  20. ClodHopper Says:

“Connect the dots for yourself on that one.”

I dont know what you’re getting at there, but IMO its a classic example of what my man Scott Adams calls “Loserthink.” Coming to conclusions based on faulty thinking.

People are connecting Brady/Belicheat success with McDaniels. Like they did with Scott Pioli, Romeo Crennel, Matt Patricia etc ect.

  21. D-Rome Says:

And once the Bucs started playing decent defense late in the 2014 season, Lovie shoved Frazier aside.

Lovie took over as defensive coordinator in 2015.

  22. Brandon Says:

JOE! I know you are not at liberty to say, but can you give me direction to look to find out exactly what happened on that flight back from the UK that sank the Bucs season and eventually Raheem’s job with the Bucs? I liked Raheem and wanted him to do well but he clearly lost the team and had to go. Please give me a clue or a hint of where to find this info.

  23. Buc50 Says:

Would love to see Raheem get another shot. The guy was a little too chummy last go around but really has been a good coach.

  24. The Coroner Says:

Byron Leftwich head coach …. hmmm. O J Howard. Oh yeah. Made him disappear.

  25. Marine Buc Says:

Byron will interview for a head coaching job but he will not get an offer. I’m more concerned with Todd Bowles getting a head coach gig.

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

I think Bowles is cautious and smart. He’s been there as a HC and is going to be careful about the teams he interviews for. I got him stayin right here with Arians another season and building and even better defense.

  27. Bucsace Says:

Can’t forget about that 10 – 6, 2010 season, with Blount running the ball, one of the Bucs most fun seasons to watch ever!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Frazier did a decent job with the Bucs in the first year of the inept Lovie Smith debacle.” – Joe

Gotta disagree with you on that one. Frazier was horrible the entire time he was here.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think Byron will get a couple practice interviews. But both he and Bowles will be here in 2020.

I REALLY hope the Panthers don’t hire the guy I wanted last year.

  30. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The only people who don’t know why McDaniels keeps getting shots and not Raheem are the ones crying about the race card that’s who. They think that race or color is no longer a consideration why someone isn’t hired.

All I know is a number of posters up here during his tenure called him Radio as if he was a mentally challenged person in a movie because of the way he spoke and that was because of his color.

  31. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Tom – I honestly didn’t know there was anyone in Tampa at this point who thinks Leftwich hasn’t done very well. He has to work with what he is given. Despite the fact that the team has no running game, he has led the offense to number 3 overall. Remember the last few years when drives were stalled near or in the redzone and the Dirk settle for field goals often? This year there are many more TDs than ever before. That is one of the main reasons the team has improved this year. Matt Gay was my fantasy kicker and the last few games he hurt me because he was only getting extra point attempts for the most part vs field goals. I hope that BL stays right here. I am sure the plan as of now is to get him ready to take over the reins once Arians hangs it up for good.

  32. Buczilla Says:

The Glazers screwed this guy over as well as us fans when they were messing around with their soccer team and not investing in the Bucs. Karma is a b!tch and it brought along Jameis Winston to deliver it’s wrath.

  33. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Raheem deserves another shot. Im sure he learned his lesson in London 2011, where did “do as I say not as I do”. Entire team quit on him. Hope he has grown up.
