Injury Updates; Jameis Future Murky

December 9th, 2019

Good and bad news.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians just finished his day-after presser and had a mixed bag when updating information on Bucs injuries.

Yesterday after the win over the Colts, Arians all but said Bucs receiver Mike Evans might be done for the season adding he would be “shocked” if Evans played before the season finale against the Dixie Chicks.

Today, Arians said Evans — who had an MRI this morning but Arians didn’t reveal details — is “very doubtful” for the next game at Detroit.

Arians also noted Evans is a quick healer and had a similar injury in underwear football.

That is a bit of an upgrade from “shocked” if he played.

As for Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, Arians sounded something of an alarm. He noted that Jameis, who had a small fracture in the thumb of his throwing hand yesterday and missed the opening series to start the second half, has swelling in his thumb today and is going to need a second opinion.

Joe doesn’t know of too many people needing a second opinion if an initial diagnosis is good.

As for left tackle Donovan Smith, who gutted through the game yesterday, Arians confirmed he does have a right knee injury along with a right ankle injury. Arians said Smith won’t be practicing much if at all this week and the Bucs coach is hopeful Smith is able to practice on Friday.

Smith has yet to miss a start in almost five years in the NFL, a 77-game streak.

I mean, for the anti Jameis crowd, now would be a good time to show them what RG4 looks like. Sit Jameis the rest of the year, play RG4 and then see where we stand.

I’m pretty sure people would be begging for Jameis to come back!

  2. 813bucboi Says:

with us out of the playoff race, its a great time to develop depth if necessary…..

imo, we should let wells get reps at RT….cant be much worse than dotson….let Watson finish out the season…..

would hate for JW to play against the lions and injures himself further or has a totally different injury…..

tough decisions for BA…lol…thats why he gets paid the big bucks!!!!….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  3. Joe Says:

I’m pretty sure people would be begging for Jameis to come back!

LOL Sort of like the way, when Donovan Smith got hurt and left the game and the social media lynching of Smith stopped when the Colts pass rush suddenly turned into traffic on the Courtney Campbell Causeway at 10 p.m. on a Friday night?

  4. Cgmaster27 Says:

@jonjohn agree 100% Youd see this offense go back to scoring 18 pts a game. And theyd still be like “he doesnt turn it over as much as jameis”. Im all for it, just to see what rg has for a game.

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    resign JPP
    sign SHAQ
    offer SUH 1year 6mil
offer JW 2years 50mil guaranteed 3rd year option at 35mil….

    draft trenches….sign a FA RB & FS….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. LordCornelius Says:

Would be interesting to see RG4 play a bit as a comparison.

  7. TampaTown Says:

Omg…second opinion is a huge red flag. I hope he’s ok.

  8. Robert Says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  9. Chimichanga Says:

Smith is subpar but Josh Wells is god awful.

  10. fernando diaz Says:

    i Like 813bucboi plan
But I figure out to sign Nassib too

  11. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

It’s two’fer…J&B…have decided Jameis is the QB for 1 more year and are now testing the #2 while hedging the draft slot…clever

  12. Pwedge Says:

    @ Robert

You know you’re a sh@t person when you’re happy someone is injured.

Says more about you as a person than it does Jameis, smh.

  13. ClodHopper Says:

Ouch. An ankle and knee on the same leg of a big man is rough.

  14. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

RG4 will score 18 ppg AND the Jameis haters will blame the defense, run game, and lack of running game. Hahahaha

This all backs up that Jameis is an old school grind it out warrior. He doesn’t complain about injuries at all, he just praises his god. He never throws teammates under the bus, ever.
I’m glad he’s our QB as opposed to run out of bounds Glennon. I hope the Bucs brass has seen enough to want him back and just shelves him the rest of the season for RG4.

  15. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Defense, blocking, and lack of run game***

  16. Adrnagy Says:

Sit Jameis. Sit Evans. Let’s see what we have in Watson. Perriman. Griffin.

Rumors coming from one Bucs place is cappa will move to RT. Bucs will draft Tyler Biadasz, G, Wisconsin. Next year.

  17. D-Rome Says:

Sort of like the way, when Donovan Smith got hurt and left the game and the social media lynching of Smith stopped when the Colts pass rush suddenly turned into traffic on the Courtney Campbell Causeway at 10 p.m. on a Friday night?

I’m fine with Donovan Smith and the offensive line. The offensive line is an average performing line but Joe, you really said it with the above statement. That line looked noticeably different without Donovan Smith in there. The drop off was massive. When it comes to the slack jawed mouth breathers who think the Bucs have the worst LT and offensive line in the league, well, be careful what you wish for.

  18. Colorado Says:

    Lets sign Kaepernick!

  19. D-Rome Says:

Sit Jameis. Sit Evans. Let’s see what we have in Watson. Perriman. Griffin.

Agreed. There is nothing to be gained by playing hurt players at this point. The Bucs are not building for next year. Each season has it’s own start and finish and there is no such thing as carry over. If there was, then someone explain what happened in 2010 and 2016. No carry-over there!

  20. D-Rome Says:

Correction: Not hurt players. I meant injured players. Everyone is hurt now.

  21. Dewey Selmon Says:

RG4 has been a soldier for us. If he ends up playing he is auditioning for a job somewhere else. Best of luck Griff. You’re like the best preseason QB I’ve every seen. Tanner Hudson gets honorable mention.

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

Well, I guess it’s time to see what RG4’s got. I won’t mince words here, I’m worried!
Say what you want about Jameis, good, bad, and ugly you KNOW what you have. He’s a KNOWN commodity. Now we have a back-up who’s lone game experience came in the 3rd quarter of yesterday’s game and who’s going to be possibly starting this week?!

  23. jjbucfan Says:

Not a fan of DS 76 at LT- would love to see him at RT, however, he showed a lot by gutting it out and risking further injury. Watching that play and seeing how he got rolled up on, he had every right to mail it in. He didn’t, his team needed him and he put it on the line. Kudos DS 76. Wells got beat with a veteran move by a very good DE. Sure he almost got JW killed, but with work he could be a serviceable backup. I don’t know much about where he normally plays but I agree with 813, play him at RT and see what he can do.

BTW- 813 becoming a good contributor to the sight now that Hargreaves is gone, LOL. Keep bringing it- Love your plan for next year but also would sign Nassib- he is a high motor guy like Kearney for Falcons and Kerrigan for Washington.

  24. Defense Rules Says:

So if I understand this correctly from some of you, you’re proposing to sit Jameis & we can see what RG4 has. Simultaneous with that, Mike Evans is out, so Watson gets to start in his place. Cappa is out also, so Watford gets to start in his place. Donovan Smith is hurting, so Josh Wells gets to start in his place. Bucboi adds that Dotson is terrible, and wants Wells to start for him but he’s already taken by some other Fantasy Masterminds for LT, so I guess we’ll need to plug in Aaron Stinnie either at RT or at LT & let Wells play RT.

Yup, good luck Griff on a fair chance to see what you’ve got. We know you’ll be lucky to put up 18 points, but don’t say you weren’t given every opportunity. What could possibly go wrong behind a line of Stinnie, Marpet, Jensen, Watford & Wells.

  25. AMI_Chris Says:

If the Bucs have decided to resign Jameis, then shut him down for the year, along with Evans. There is nothing more to be gained this year and both of these guys are who they are.

  26. WeeManOfScots Says:

Bucboi…you mean re-sign JPP, right? We don’t want him to resign…we want him to re-sign..

    Big difference between both meanings…

  27. Greg Says:

So JonJohn you really think its a fair comparison. Winston with Evans vs RG4 without Evans and possibly starting LT? You people will say the dumbest crap to support your boy crush.

  28. ou812 Says:

I’m pretty sure people would be begging for Jameis to come back??? OR NOT !!!What are you afraid of JOE he might be exposed as a fraud like the first three games of last year !!!!!

  29. bojim Says:

Thought after the game that he’d have some swelling today. Cracked bones do that. Hope he’s ok. Don’t want him to get hurt worse but I do like winning.

    I agree!

  31. whats the bucs plan 2020 Says:

season is over …. actually has been for awhile ….. now we can all get on the same page …. develope and evaluate talent with a eye to keeping the best and manage the salary cap and somehow reduce our turnovers …Hmmm how do we do that ??

  32. LordCornelius Says:

    @Defense Rules

Very true. Then again that’s basically what Winston just dealt with en route to putting up 38 points with a hurt hand with TD’s to guys like Perriman/Watson. And this wasn’t the first game Cappa or some O-line missed time.

I’m curious how potent the offense could still be.

  33. SmittyToiletBowles Says:

    Jonjohn
Exactly. The anti Jameis crowd will also be the anti Griffin crowd and the anti every qb that doesn’t win every game crowd. Kids these days. Im all for letting Jameis go IF they find someone better. Easier said than done. Be careful what ya wish for I tell myself.

  34. View from 132 Says:

No sensible fan thinks we are better off today without Jameis… but overall long term for the team, I think this could be a very revealing few games.

  35. Ndog Says:

I feel really bad for Jameis as just when started winning he gets hurt. Also has a real chance at leading the league in both TDs and passing yards which would be really cool for him personally. But if he can’t play I am looking forward to seeing what Ryan Griffin can do. Yesterday when he came in I didn’t have much hope BUT it was his first game action and he didn’t get many reps first team reps all week. This should certainly let us know if he is capable backup to Jameis going forward or not.

  36. Dom>Licht Says:

It is all about what is best for the player at this point Jamies has a huge payday coming from someone no need to play him in meaningless games until he is 100%. Same with Evans

  37. Robert Says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. PSL Bob Says:

Not sure I agree that Griffin is only capable of generating 18 points. I’ve been saying for the last 3 years, he needs a shot to show what he can do in a real game. If Jameis isn’t 100%, put Griffin in.

As for putting in other backups, I disagree strongly. The Bucs are finally developing a winning culture. I prefer wins over experience for 3rd stringers. I’d hate to see the team drop the next 3 games and lose the vibe they’ve got going now.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

    weeman

yeah thats what i mean re-sign jpp…damn auto correct

    GO BUCS!!!!

  40. 813bucboi Says:

    DR

    you worried about griff?…lol…

you should be worried about our starters getting seriously injured and missing all of TC and half the season because they played vs the lousy lions and took a shot to the knee against a 3rd string DB trying to make the team next year…..

offense doesnt need any more reps…..they are clicking on all cylinders….continue to rotate the defensive guys to keep them fresh…..lets wells, dare, watson, griff and others play……thats the only way to evaluate your depth……we all know balling in PS(tanner hudson) dont mean squat….

you selling griff short…imo he’ll score more than 18pts….im thinking 24pts….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  41. 813bucboi Says:

    fernando diaz

    i agree….

nassib is a very important piece too….

we need some consistency on each side of the ball….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  42. 813bucboi Says:

    JJ

    LOL….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  43. Buc4evr Says:

If Jameis can go, we need to play him. We need to get a winning culture in place for next year and try to stack as many wins as possible. I’m tired of losing and using the excuse that it’s a good thing because now we will have a high draft pick.

  44. bogiedr Says:

Another Pac 12 guy, what do you expect? It is a soft league with overated soft players!!!!

  45. Huh Says:

People are already making excuses for Griffin if he were to play. I mean wtf lmaooooo you cant make this s%&#@ up.

  46. Ship Thief Says:

BA must think that Griffin can play, or we would not be the back-up.

  47. Buczilla Says:

I damn sure don’t want Jameis as our starter, but I hope he’s ok.

  48. Sharthappens Says:

So some reporting Joe and find out how he injured his thumb during halftime. It did not happen on the field. He even stated that he hurt it during halftime. I could see the retard punching a locker

  49. Coburn Says:

If rg4 ends up sucking that doesn’t mean Jameis is suddenly a great qb or that he should be kept.. Although considering his lack of in game experience should we really expect him to ligjt it up? People give jameis 5 years of excuses and up and down play bit saw after rg4 first and only series everyone is saying that’s why he doesn’t play lol

    Lets sign Kaepernick!

I’ve been a Bucs fan since they came in the NFL, if we sign that POS Kap I will stop watching football. I’M a vet and fought for my country and will not support any team or sport that rewards someone millions of dollars that disrespects the flag I fought for..I understand the point of the protest, but you make millions of dollars, choose a different platform to protest. Do not disrespect the flag and anthem that my brothers gave their life for so you have the right to protest what your feel is wrong with our society.

  51. Craig Says:

I have been waiting a long time to see Griffin get some real game time. Like everyone else we have seen him star as a preseason guy. Let’s hope he does an Eric Rhett and make us wonder why it took so long to get game time.

His long ball is as good as anyone in the league, if he can get a chance to uncork it. Might be tough if DS is also out, not a lot of good backups on the O-line.

  52. Stanglassman Says:

I’ve not seen any reports that he injured his thumb during the half I’ve only seen reports that it happened at some point in the first half.

Shart- Can you share your source on where you read it happened At the half?

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It might be smart to sit Jameis for a game so he can heal up. It is his throwing hand.

People saying RG4 would fail have nothing to base their opinions on. When Drew Bledsoe went down, the Patriots were forced to start a 6th round pick. I bet Pats fans were skeptical at the time.

    They sure aren’t complaining now.

  54. Not a blind bucs fan Says:

We had 88 yards that #3 did not account for. What game are you guys watching.Jameis is a gamer just like Favre.Only they called him a gunslinger,jw is careless with the ball.B.S

  55. RustyRhinos Says:

Bug difference between Farve and Winston. Farve won games regardless of what his defense did on the field. 50 wins his first 5 seasons in Green bay. Yes Fifty wins, Winston has 26. Winning is the main reason to play is it not? Tired of the Winston is equal to Farve gibberish. Winston as his record as the starting QB for the Buccaneers shows is way way behind Farves first five seasons with the Packers. Their is little to compare there.

  56. RustyRhinos Says:

    Big sorry
