Maybe it was the wrong route. Maybe it was an option route. The announcer on TV felt it was a wrong route. It is clear it was a communication error. On the sidelines however, it appear that the coaching staff was clearly communicating to Winston about things he might have missed after the play.
I suspect that Arians will back his QB come tonight or tomorrow. If you read his theory of coaching he will always be that guy for his quarterback.

The biggest thing from that celebration from Perriman is he acted like he’s been there and expected to make that catch. This is the same Perriman earlier in the year that looked completely lost, let a TD go straight through his hands in Carolina.
That’s the issue with the guy – he just doesn’t do anything, looks awful for 12 weeks, then has a good 4-game stretch. Although in this case, it’s borderline a great 4-week stretch.
Considering Devin Funchess got $10m, I don’t foresee the Bucs being able to afford to keep him.
On the positive side if Hump is cut, he’d be a great #4 WR for the Bucs to pick up again.

I actually think not having Evans and Godwin now will help Winston in the future. He’s learning some valuable lessons about receivers that run bad routes, wrong routes, etc. He’s also learning about trusting other guys. Coverage is different now too. They don’t respect any of our receivers. Really good. I actually like Winston but he drives me crazy with the mistakes.

Bucs could also create some cap space in 2020 by redoing a deal with David as he only has one year at $10m left on his deal. The issue is he’d get a raise, but they could low-ball it early and take the hit later. The Bucs never do signing bonuses, but they could finally pull that trick out of their bag, give him a 5-year deal that is backloaded, knowing that in 3-4 years you’re taking a cap hit.

@Tampabuscsbro – Well the “safe” play is just that, a draw or middle screen, basically 95% of coaches call that play there. Winston has been the exception to the rule, be it Dirk or BA, they’ve actually allowed him to try to get the 1st down there, which is why the “safe” play looked out of place. But that’s the norm.
