Jameis Vs. Raheem On Third Down

November 22nd, 2019

The Bucs’ ol’ ball coach is one of the most unique stories in the 2019 NFL.

One of the great stories in the 2019 NFL resides not on the Tampa Bay sideline, but on the sidelines of Sunday’s Bucs opponent, the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons have a coach who literally went from offensive coach to defensive playcaller in a matter of days. That’s Raheem Morris, the former Bucs head coach/defensive coordinator (2009-2012).

The 43-year-old’s official Falcons title is Assistant Head Coach/Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach, but three weeks ago Raheem was ordered by his head coach, Dan Quinn, to save his secondary.

Raheem took over that unit, and was giving playcalling responsibilities on third down and in two-minute defense, and like magic the Falcons defense didn’t allow a touchdown in wins against the Saints and Panthers.

And here come the Bucs to the cauldron that is the Georgia Dome (or whatever they call it now).

Raheem shrugged off the uniqueness of it all recently and noted how he used to be in the ear of Falcons offensive coordinator and ex-Bucs commander Dirk Koetter about third-down calls, so he understands collaboration and it’s perfectly normal to have divided playcalling responsibility.

Joe is highly impressed.

Raheem coaching offense the past few years was impressive enough; jumping back to defense midseason with an advanced role is an entirely new level of special. This just doesn’t happen in the NFL.

As for Sunday, Raheem will be matching wits against his 2009 Bucs quarterback, Byron Leftwich and Jameis Winston. (Why do we never hear about Jameis making a great checks or audibles?)

Man, the Bucs are one bizarre soap opera. Raheem’s 10-win season in 2010 will stand for at least 10 freaking years. Who knew?

Joe is certain the competitor in Raheem is fired up to win third downs against the Bucs’ humming offense, and to help win one for his new buddy Dirk Koetter. Don’t think Raheem isn’t a tough guy, he’s got his three uncles to thank for that.

  4. JimmyJack Says:

Bucs plan 2020. You need to get a grip and ask for something more realistic. That is not happening. Absolutely no chance 100% I suggest you ask them to lower beer cost to $2.00.

    Our next Head Coach?

  6. Boyd Says:

I always liked Morris. I wish we would have kept him, I’m also surprised he hasn’t gotten any more opportunities. Some team is gonna get a great coach when he gets his second chance

Downtrodden Bucs team, lost last 5 of 6 games – going on the road against back to back winner on the rise with not one, but 2 former HC on their sideline

How anyone thinks we have any chance of winning is beyond me

    This is the BUCS remember….

Raheem, our ex coach who did so much, with so little, and got us 10 wins, back when we were Youngry.
Of course, I want us to win, but must admit there is a part of me that wants to see Coach Koetter and Raheem Morris totally humiliate us.
Hate to say this, but IMHO, we would have been better off sticking with Koetter, and getting him a real defensive coordinator. His loyalty to Smitty cost him his job!
Now, watch him light us up on Sunday.

It can’t be any worse than what it has been so far. Any win would be something out of the ordinary.

I have lots of favorite posters here…far too many to mention. Some of them have probably figured out who they are.

But you sir are one of my favorites. You possess a joy of life and a joy of being a Bucs fan regardless of the outcomes on the field. IMHO that is the very definition of a true fan…like the Cubbie fans of old.

I’m generally very optimistic and positive but on the days I find myself down you always cheer me up.

Hat tip to you and I’m with you. BEAT THE DIRTY BIRDS!

So when BA finally gives it up…who do we want…Bowles…Leftwich…or a return of Raheem.

I vote for Raheem. I’ve always felt he was a victim of circumstances…thrust into the HC position before his time and when the Glazers had the purse strings pulled tight because of the financing of ManU.

I’ve always believed a little more maturity and the ability to see who were the locker room cancers on that team and Raheem could have won a lot more.

  17. Pugs&Bucs Says:

That was the season Raheem fell behind 17 to the winless Lions, but somehow beat them by 18.

  18. lambchop Says:

Dirk Koetter was his own worst enemy. He might still have a job in Tampa if he got rid of Smitty a year earlier.

Also, don’t forget how Koetter had a penchant for running in odd ball situations right into the teeth of a defense with a horrible OL and RBs.

I’m not sad he’s gone. One of these decades, we’ll hire the right person.

  19. Destinjohnny Says:

Raheem is now ready to be a head coach

  20. Hodad Says:

Maybe the Glazers got it right hiring Raheem, but got the year wrong. He wasn’t ready to be a HC ten years ago, but has come a long way since then gaining experience, and maturity. I hope he gets another shot at as a HC. Would be funny if it was with us.

  21. Fire Goodell Says:

Raheem got a head coaching interview with the Broncos. The Glazers thought he would be another version of Mike Tomlin and fired Gruden. Likewise, Dirk Koetter interviewed with the 49ers and Lovie got fired.

  22. Boombang Says:

Hey Joe, I ‘ll tell you why they never mention Winston’s great check/audible calls….It doesn’t fit the critics narratives that Winston can read defenses…..The rumor for years is that Winston is unable to read defenses…..

  23. Bolby Says:

    Bring back Raheem
