Dotson’s Dumb Penalty

November 17th, 2019

Admits guilt.

Bucco Bruce Arians loves to refer to the many and consistent mental mistakes by the Bucs as “Bucs beating Bucs.”

Today, it was Demar Dotson’s turn.

In his postgame address, Arians said the Bucs had “too many mistakes to beat a good team.” And while there were many to choose from, Dotson, the veteran right tackle and long-time starter, gets special attention for this.

On their first possession to open the second half, the Bucs had a critical third-and-one from the Saints-32. The Bucs had a shot of pulling within one score at 20-14. The Bucs in Saints territory made a score all the more important.

And then guess what? Dotson was called for a false start that backed the Bucs back to the Saints-37. The next play, the Bucs had an incomplete pass and then had to settle for a field goal.

“It was a dumb play,” Dotson said of his dumb play, in a funereal Bucs locker room.

Dotson is sadly no stranger to these types of plays that happen on offense and defense virtually on a weekly basis for far too many years.

Arians is right. You can’t beat good teams making dumb mistakes. It’s helped torpedo a number of coaches in the post-Chucky era.

Maybe it is time for a housecleaning? Identify the dummies and dump them on the street come February.

Dotson should be cut this week! What do we have left to lose!!

  2. Howard Cosell Says:

    You can’t fix glaser

  3. Howard Cosell Says:

    Absolutely hopeless
    Nothing but a comedic distraction

  4. Wesley Says:

Runner was going to get stuffed in the backfield anyway.

  5. Bosch Says:

Housecleaning to include both coordinators, Arians, Licht and the Glazers! Yeah, I know it will never happen. Just fantasizing.

  6. Pelbuc61 Says:

Actually, the time for a house cleaning was before the trade deadline but since BA and Licht have a guaranteed 5 yrs, what do they care. Pathetic on so many levels.

  7. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Fix the f’n line! Our left tackle is as good as maybe our right.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

Salt in the wound was that the play wasn’t even going to Dotson’s side.

Guys like this get in the way of winning……….And he’s still our RT 5 years later. Predictably nothing has changed…….He is still letting us down as he always has.

  9. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Pelbuc61 you have a point they are still evaluating the players. Good sign for Bucs fans because that means Arians and Jameis aren’t going anywhere. I think they are trying to figure out what they have as a unit and most of these coaches were paid money by the Glazers to figure just that out. Go Bucs!

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Dotson has played the Saints how many times in his career? When you face a team that many times and still get beaten like a drum it’s an absolute billbord sign letting you know he is just a bad player.

Yep, blame Licht on this one.

  11. OBP Says:

We need to completely re-tool this team in the off season. Sign Philip Rivers and a bunch of vet DBs, cut Donovan, let Dot, Jameis, Suh, and Gholston walk, hopefully sign Bulaga, and go O-line in Round 1 and 2.

  12. Sport Says:

Joe – Of course that’s what they will do. Our roster will be drastically different next year. Loads of free agents, tons of cap space and accountability.

Stupidity is one thing, lack of effort is an entirely different matter. Which is why VH was launched.

    In BA I Trust!

  13. DBS Says:

Nothing new for Dotson the drive killer. Been that way as long as he has been here.

  14. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

The losing culture is too deep to overcome.

  15. gotbbucs Says:

Hasn’t been a worthy starter in three years, yet here he still is starting. Jeremy Trueblood was an dunderhead that made mistakes like this, but at least he was mean about it. Dotson is a gentle giant.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    Will BA call him out?…lol…

BA is running out of scapegoats

    GO BUCS

  17. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

When you aren’t as talented you start cheating and get called for penalties

  18. Pa Privateer Says:

    Dump Winston and Dotson.

Then start looking for QB, C/OG, OT, DL, CB, S

  19. unbelievable Says:

At this point I think I’d be okay dumping 60% of the roster at least. It’s inexcusable how inconsistent this offense plays.

  20. Bculaw Says:

    Blow it up.

This was supposed to be a season of hope with a “real, professional” coaching staff. Instead, it is just more of the same. Antequated schemes, poor organization and game management from the coaching staff, and an absolute 3-ring circus-style clown show on the field.

It’s enough to rip a fan’s guts out. Every stinking week. I’ve been watching games since moving to the Bay area as a kid in 1987, but I’m at the end of my rope. There’s no redeeming quality on this team. No identity on either side of the ball – at least no redeeming identity. Week in and week out, there are mental mistakes on top of plain old mental weakness on the field, and no apparent plan by the coaching staff to fix it. And, when compared to a well-run, well-coached organization like the Saints, the talent and discipline gap might as well be a canyon.

This only thing that sucks more than this team is being a fan of this team.

    Blow. It. Up.

  21. Ndog Says:

I’m sure it was the QBs fault right Jean?

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

I think a lawsuit should be filed by all Buc fans for the teams direct causation and link..to Buc Fan alcoholism. I bet all of you we lead the league in Alcoholic fans. I mean, You cannot watch these clowns sober. You gotta get blitzcraiged to keep from Crying..Right?

  23. Miller5252 Says:

I just liked how it was the same exact play as the other 3rd and 1…. Saints knew exactly what was coming all game and drug Tampa like the sorry team they are.
