Speed Demon Suh
October 2nd, 2019Seeing nothing but green between you and the goal line has a way of making a human being fly.
And so was the case with Bucs defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. When Suh scooped and scored after Shaq Barrett forced a fumble of Rams quarterback Jared Goff late in the game on Sunday, Suh kicked in his jets.
How do you know? The NFL knows.
Per the NFL’s own NextGen stats, which tracks players with sensors built into their equipment, Suh was tracked at a pretty healthy speed when he scored and sealed the game for the Bucs.
Let’s just say Joe was impressed.
Ndamukong Suh reached 18.04 MPH on this game-clinching 37-yard fumble return TD, the fastest speed Suh has reached over the last two seasons.
This was also Shaquil Barrett’s 2nd turnover forced from pressure today and 4th this season (most in NFL).#TBvsLAR | #GoBucs pic.twitter.com/CwgvgatVDk

We found our fullback.

Someone on the radio, I forget who because it was after the game and there were massive quantities of alcohol involved, said his run was the equivalent of a 4.5 forty. Don’t know if that’s true?
October 2nd, 2019 at 10:38 am
what he’s doing in the run game is even more impressive…..
no longer do we have to see #93 being undisciplined, shooting a gap only to have the RB run right into the unoccupied gap for a huge gain……
GO BUCS!!!!!

Old 93, everybody ran up the middle at will, new 93, 3 out of the top 4 RB’s in football held under 100 yards TOTAL. There isn’t even a debate. It’s clear, Suh is a much better football player than Batgirl.

“Don’t know if that’s true?”
I duno how you quantify it exactly because it’d depend on when you start timing him and the start with a 40 is so huge.
Some players may hit 18 MPH during the 40 but it takes them 35 yards to hit that top speed, vs maybe another player hitting 18 MPH at 20 yards in their 40 and finishing at that speed. So the same players may hit a similar top speed but have pretty different 40 times.

The REAL #93….HEAR THAT McICECREAM…..REAL DEAL 93 HERE!!!
“FIRE LICHT NOW”

Suh, Vea and Gholston in the middle are in control. This allows Barrett to excel on the edge and just wreak havoc. Spence must be wondering why he didn’t get himself straight.
“Could’ve been me, could’ve been me, could’ve been me”
Joe’s take regarding him hanging with ASF and Drug Martin while maybe misplaced in an article that should’ve been about the Winston award was telling about where Spence’s head was.
So happy that Barrett was signed by Licht, gonna have to pull a David Blaine to keep him, Winston and Godwin.

Simple tnew, Evans goes….sorry to be the one to break the news but yeah, Evans, unfortunately is not affordable unless he agrees to a team friendly restructure….and that would be awesome, two #1 wideouts!

“So happy that Barrett was signed by Licht, gonna have to pull a David Blaine to keep him, Winston and Godwin.”
We’ll proabaly lose Godwin but we have him until 2021. He will get paid WR#1 money. We will resign winston if he keeps his pace and we get close to a wildcard spot. We’ll franchise tag Barrett

DB55
“We found our fullback.”
Don’t disagree with you DB55 but Suh will have some competition for that spot.
Vea was a star running back in high school and I’m sure you’ve seen some of his great runs.
It would be a great competion considering that Suh was 3 sport star in high school including in basketball which IMHO is the sport that demands the greatest all around athleticism.
So how about this…not just a jumbo package for the goal line but a HUGE package with Vea and Suh in the same backfield.
I’m kidding…sorta…

i wish Noah Spence made the growth to become a starter. Imagine him and Shaq doing the same thing together…
October 2nd, 2019 at 11:47 am
I Clocked Suh at 4.81 seconds from the 36 yard line (as he gathered himself) which from my calculations extrapolates to just a few hundredths of a second over a 5 second 40. Keep in mind this is after nearly 60 minutes of football, with heavy pads and the football in his hand!

The hell with the franchise tag. Need to sign Shaq to an extension like NOW.
October 2nd, 2019 at 11:56 am
@TampaTown, like LordCornelius said, it’s not equivalent to a 4.5 forty, because you have to get up to speed. BUT, if you ran 40 yards at 18.18 mph the whole way, you’d hit a 4.5 second forty. For a man his size, to hit 18 mph is amazing.

licht needs to rework d.smith and marpets deal not just mike evans…..with the right moves, we can resign everyone….
GO BUCS!!!!!

when suh took off, my wife said: damn, he’s faster than winston….lol…

—————-
A huge part of a good 40 time is the start. You can’t equate running fast and having a good 40 time though if you run a great 40 time, you are definitely fast, but if you run a pedestrian 40 time, you can still be pretty fast.
I’ve worked with sprinters that claimed they could run 3.9 40’s… not because they were ever timed but because they took their 100 meter times and got out a calculator and figured it out… that’s not the way it works. After the first 40 yards, a runner still has another 70 yards or so to complete until they’ve run a 110 yard/100 meter race. The two runs are barely related. Having a great start is awesome in 100 meters but doesn’t make much of a difference as runners typically hit full speed at 30 meters or so and that’s where true track speed takes over. Suh ran over 5.0 when he ran his 40 at the Combine… many years and pounds ago. Him running 18 mph is all fine and dandy but doesn’t equate to anything but him running 18 mph.
October 2nd, 2019 at 12:30 pm
So I did some figuring, if Suh was running 18.18 mph which is 26.64 feet per second from the very instant he started running, which is impossible, he would have exactly a 4.50 40 time… but considering it took him probably 20-30 yards to hit full speed, his 40 time would not be overly impressive.
October 2nd, 2019 at 1:13 pm
The drive/acceleration phase of a sprint is the most important part, most track sprints are virtually decided in the first 20 meters because of this. Not that Suh was running a track race (or that it’s even comparable to this situation), but you need to take into account the acceleration period for an accurate measure of time.
