Snaps-Leader Ogunbowale

Giant role

Yeah, the Bucs have personnel issues.

One piece of evidence lies with the running backs usage.

Through the past three games, undrafted and underwhelming Dare Ogunbowale, the Bucs special teams captain, has taken the most snaps at the running back position. And for the whole season, he’s just six snaps short of Peyton Barber’s team leading total.

If the Bucs put Ogunbowale on the trading block today, what would he command on the market? The answer to that question is a problem.

Ogunbowale is not the guy you want taking all those snaps, and he represents a coaching or personnel problem. Take your pick.

The Bucs offense is struggling this season in 3rd-and-short situations. A piece of that puzzle is Ogunbowale.

The 25-year-old, third-year player has a very nice story, and what an honor it was for him to be named special teams captain, but he wasn’t supposed to have this role on the offense. Andre Ellington didn’t cut it, and for some reason the Bucs think Barber would be worse in Ogunbowale’s role.

This reminds Joe of when Charles Sims led Bucs running backs in snaps during the 2017 season, and then he was out of football.

Joe would really like to see Bucco Bruce Arians shake up the Bucs running backs stable in various ways, including adding one.

Your can’t expect anyone to trade for players thats been on the practice squad for three years. He would not make it on any other team in the nfl. BA doesn’t value running backs. Its a shame if we had another good running back it would be a little easier for the QB.

Lazy narrative of people on this site.

The only reason people think the Bucs should Dalvin Cook is because they are FSU fans. Stupid homers.

Wake up and get a clue

  3. NPRSageBoy Says:

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. BA will never change.

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

The Indianapolis Colts today announced they have signed defensive tackle Lyndon Johnson to their practice squad and released running back Bruce Anderson III from the practice squad. He’s worth a shot and is affordable

  5. Jean Lafitte Says:

Plus he’s a kickoff/punt returner and good receiver on 3rd downs.

  6. Snook Says:

Dalvin should’ve been taken at #19 by the Bucs instead of Gerald McCoy Howard at TE. I’m an FSU fan. However, I was done with Jameis a couple years ago.

I don’t care where someone goes to school. But Dalvin leads the league in rushing doesn’t he?

  7. Hodad Says:

Rojo should be getting 20, to 25 touches a game. Dare sucks, and Barber isn’t much better. They need to have him in 70 percent of the offensive snaps. Barber should spell him, and Dare needs to take a back seat, he sucks.

  8. Bucnjim Says:

He’s probably our best blocking RB and since we are down most games and have to pass to even try and catch up makes sense. The games which we were ahead I’m going to assume RoJo and Barber had more carries.

Isn’t Licht a really good gm?

  10. TOM Says:

    Same ol crap.

  11. unbelievable Says:

I mean, why shouldn’t our 3rd best running back have the most snaps?

That totally makes sense you guys. Totally. Bullchit Bruce said so.

  12. jjbucfan Says:

Yeah another moron has joined the site. Dalvin Cook leads the league in Rushing and rushing TDs. Thanks for announcing your presence you freaking idiot.

The Bucs suck “As simple as that”

    I thought Koetter got fired?

Anyone remember the good old days when the Bucs used to keep a TE or a DE in the backfield as a blocker? Anyone remember DE/FB Eric Lorig? Dude was 6’4″ & 265 lbs; 7th Rnd pick in 2010. Played with us through 2013, almost exclusively as a FB. Ya, a VERY BIG FB. Yup, 30 receptions total in 4 years, BUT … he could block pretty well. Averaged around 40% on the offensive snaps in 2012-2013. Hmmm, weren’t those Schiano’s years? Obviously Greg was way ahead of his time.

So which is more important in the running equation…super talented RB or talented OL.

As for me I’ll take the latter. Almost any NFL RB can run behind a good line. I concede a great back like Barry Sanders can run period…but if you build a great line more than one player benefits.

Our line is still a work in progress. Given the injuries and inexperience and total lack of depth we’re doing “OK”. Obviously though we need to address this position with both draft and FA.

As to this specific thread I’m in the crowd that wonders why ROJO is getting FAR more touches.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW if I had to list my greatest disappointment in our running game and OL this year it’s that we haven’t simply gone to becoming a dominant left side running team.

I’d like to see more smashmouth on that left side with Jenkins, Marpet and Donovan.

  18. Hodad Says:

Let Dare run back kicks, and punts play S.T.’s. He shouldn’t be getting more looks then Jones. It’s a joke, his blocking? He hasn’t kept Jameis from being sacked much has he?

I am getting very nervous about our next game.I want to be positive, but the shadow of doom seems to be coming over my spirit..Now I know how the Spartans felt facing the mighty Persian army.SUCK IT UP JAMEIS OR YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Defense Rules Says:

813bucboi … Gave up on Vitale too soon? That’s who we are; that’s what we do.

  23. Jackpc1 Says:

Dan Vitale is also on his fifth team if you count the Bills.

  24. Buczilla Says:

Dalvin Cook would sure look good in our ugly uniforms huh? Licht is a menace to our talent pool and my sanity. Every gm makes mistakes but Licht is well below average. At worst, I’ll have a different gm to loathe if we hopefully make Licht walk the plank.

Ronald Jones started off as such a good story, but it has tailed off bigtime. Can we please give this guy 20 touches in a game? I know he is not good at pass blocking, but damn surely all of our offensive gurus can figure something out.

  25. Beligerentbuc Says:

Dare can play and will show it soon, patience people.

He is gonna run wild…Go Bucs!

The coaching is an upgrade, gotta give it time to unlearn all the garbage…Kotter took the curse to Atlanta, good riddance.

  26. sincethebeginning Says:

My guess is that lately BA wants a RB for more pass protection blocking and late release safety valve pass catching. He sees our 3rd stringer as the best at that. For straight up running plays they still want to platoon RoJo and Barber and roll with whoever’s hot.

That of course makes our play calling extremely predictable based on our personnel groups. That’s why in London you saw Mr third-stringer getting some more carries to try and make our playcalling less predictable based on personnel. But our line can’t help him out and he can’t move the chains.

The solution in my opinion is to give RoJo the keys to the Cadillac and let him have a trial by fire doing the pass protection and the leak out safety valve receiver and all of it. A true three-down back and let’s roll see how he does.

But our coaching staff can’t deal with taking chances like that for some reason. What do we have to lose when from one moment to the next we never know when the quarterback is going to implode?? Why not give RoJo a try chance to step up??
