“Scotty Miller Is Out There Running High School Routes”

October 14th, 2019

A prominent former Buccaneer says the Bucs receiver who could pass for a high schooler also plays like one.

“Scotty Miller is out there running high school routes,” retired Tampa Bay receiver Michael Clayton told WDAE after yesterday’s loss to Carolina. “I see it. It’s true. High school. Didn’t look like he belonged,” added the 2004 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Clayton was high on the Bucs’ talent entering the season and then after a couple of games expressed the talent was strong but Vernon Hargreaves would hold them back because he would get exposed by opponents.

Today, Clayton’s disbelief turned to Miller, drops by Mike Evans and a guy who isn’t nearly as good as Jacquizz Rodgers, the running back he replaced.

“Dare Ogunbowale, as high as I was on him, he literally made the words come out of my mouth, ‘He needs to be cut.’ It came out of my mouth,” Clayton barked with agony in his voice. “You’re not ready yet young man. These are big boys with big boy pants. You’re making us look soft. … I don’t want to feel like that but it’s true. Dare Ogunbowale has been getting ran through game after game after game. It’s true.”

What troubles Joe is that Miller and Ogunbowale were handpicked by Bruce Arians. It’s his offense, and he drives the bus on Buccaneers personnel.

As for Hargreaves, Joe can’t hang him on Arians. That’s a roster weed that needs to be plucked after four seasons.

  4. Alexander Nascimento Says:

Yes we can! Anyone wearing a Bucs jersey on Sundays is BA’s responsibility.
He chose every single one of them. He said it was fixed.

He is not alone! Add Josh Wells to the list and a host of others. This game was over in the first 5 mins.

  6. Ricky Says:

Does it really matter who is the target at wide receiver when you are going to give the ball away anyway?

  7. cmurda Says:

There’s not much light at the end of the tunnel with this team when you have the likes of Scotty Miller and Bobo Wilson wasting roster spots.

  8. GrafikDetail.com Says:

miller was a draft choice and was gonna make the team regardless just off his speed as a developmental player… in the offseason and preseason… Dare performed better than Rodgers who is out of the league at the moment…

  9. Buczilla Says:

Is the draft party going to be at Buffalo Wild Wings this year? I need some hope and for me at least, its not too early to start drumming some up. 😀

  10. Clean House Says:

Our girl coaches will save the day

  11. Jean Lafitte Says:

Man I wish we would have given Anderson a chance. The dude had grit.

  12. ElBajito43 Says:

    Austin Sefarian Jenkins FAILURE
    Charlie Chaplin Sims. FAILURE
    Noah Spence. FAILURE
    Bob Aguayo. FAILURE
    VH3. FAILURE

etc etc and now we have DEVIN the “great ballerina” taken over Defensive Linemen and EDGE so that we can watch backup quarterbacks have all day to throw and complete passes against JASON LICHT’s MAGIC CORNERBACK FETISH…

Who does this???? Who drafts this Sh!t with the 10th best overall draft capital since 2014 !!!

You have done ✅ LESS THAN NOTHING.
You have harmed us. And the blood is on your hands JASON LICHT
YOU AND THE GLAZERS do not care about Bucs fans and even KAYNE West knows this

  13. Defense Rules Says:

I’m proud of you Joe. Game’s like yesterday’s are an embarrassment on the global scale. As in years past, Bucs have several obvious ‘weak links’ who need to be culled from the herd if we’re to have any chance of turning this losing culture around and establishing a winning tradition.

Personally I don’t get too concerned about rookie mistakes; that’s part of the learning process. I do get concerned about rookies being put out there ‘unprepared’ or those who simply aren’t ready for the big-time. Scotty Miller is clearly one of those; we wasted several throws yesterday that he was never going to come down with. Bobo Wilson is another. One muff is unfortunate but it happens; 2 muffs tells me he’s not the guy to be handling punts. And I’m certainly not impressed with his receiving skills as a WR. Both need to be replaced, by anyone else.

Dare Ogunbowale showed some decent promise earlier as a RB (especially pass-catching) I thought, but his blocking is ridiculous. He’s dangerous in that role it looks like. RoJo isn’t any better at blocking from what I’ve seen. Barber is adequate, but keeping him in the game either tips your hand (it’ll be a pass) or limits your rushing (not a breakaway threat?).

And I’m glad you’re finally acknowledging that Vernon isn’t cutting it. Another weak link who’ll continue to be picked on. But I trust Todd Bowles more than any coach we have. He wouldn’t have put VHIII out there IMO IF he felt that he had a better choice. Apparently he doesn’t feel that Dean, SMB or Ryan Smith were better choices … at this point. Gotta feeling that’ll change by next game. IMO there’s no sense in wasting any more defensive snaps on VHIII … he’s not the future and won’t be here next year. Get the younger guys the experience instead.

  14. teacherman777 Says:

Bobo Wilson is the worst PR I have ever seen!

    He cost us the game!

Bobo needs to cut! Scotty Miller is another “forced onto the field” draft pick like Benenoch was.

Who cares if they were drafted???

Scotty Miller and Bobo Wilson SUCK!

OJ Howard should play in the slot more.

  15. teacherman777 Says:

    *to be cut

  16. delson Says:

Michael clayton was forced into retirement. Let me know when he says something abot the blocking of our oline since thats something he knows mre about. Miller is a rookie but not the reason we lost.

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

Miller, well whatever. Bobo? Someone please point to A play, ONE play to show why he’s even here.
There was ONE WR on the field yesterday. His name is Chris Godwin.

“Paging all ‘professional athletes’ in Tampa Bay. Hello? Is this thing on?!”

  18. Allbuccedup Says:

Looks like another 5-11 year. They have no third receiver period.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

5picks and 1fumble by the QB but we blame the CB that has no pass rush….lol….

CD and SMB are playing just as bad as VHG….lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

VHG aint the answer…..but WINSTON isnt either….lol….

#1 overall pick that is on his 3rd HC in 5years who’s never made the playoffs….

    JAMEIS WINSTON IS A BUST!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  21. Pewter power Says:

Seems he doesn’t care and keeps putting them out there. Never works out coming out of retirement, brew doesn’t look like he has the same fire to coach

  22. 123urout Says:

problem is the Jay-miss. He is like a high school QB , no wonder his receivers are running HS routes

  23. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

If Arians drives the bus on personnel, WTF does Licht do?

  24. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Miller was wide open for a long TD bomb. Oops….Winston overthrew him. By 4 yards.

  25. John Says:

Add Evans to the list of people running high school routes. He literally has 4 routes he can run and only on zone. We know what happens when he’s matched up on a physical man corner lol they basically run the route for him

  26. buc15 Says:

    Kenny Bell 2.0

  27. Proudbucsfan Says:

For the life of me I don’t understand why they have Scotty miller even activ on game day, he was hurt for most of training camp and even the coach had to say something during a presser to get him to get back on the field that to me is lack of toughness and motivation. Justin Watson is taller more talented with his hands and ran a 4.3 at his pro day in the forty, he’s even good on special teams what has Scotty Miller done on ST ?

  28. SOEbuc Says:

    JoeBucsSheep.com

Lost by seven in a high scoring game with the entire right side of our oline injured.

Scotty Miller being a joke is something I will agree with. WHERE THE F#CK ARE WATSON’S REPS?!!! Like Benenoch and Cappa last year.

  29. Mort Says:

Who would know a bad WR better than Clayton? Thats what he was every year except his first.

  30. bucnole Says:

JOE – what happened to ROJO running the ball??? He had a few touches early and then disappeared. Did he get injured??

  31. Buc believer Says:

He looks like a high school kid

  32. Buccfan37 Says:

Licht has a tough job picking players names out of a hat.

  33. Bucamania Says:

Seeing itty bitty Scotty Miller out there running around like he’s a Make-A-Wish kid who’s dream was to play in the NFL makes me question the whole regime.

  34. Get a clue Says:

    Should of kept Spencer Schnell

  35. BigHog Says:

If you people calling FAMOUS A BUST …then at least a third of the QB’s in the league are a BUST!!! Build an o/line with some depth, one that can pass block first then run block not run block first and not pass block at all!!! THE O/Line sucks..really no consistency at all which causes poor play by FAMOUS, a good and consistent pass rush will make the best QB tap-dance in the pocket!! Continue to build this team around FAMOUS! WHY? Because damn, as a team we ain’t there yet!!!

  36. Isaac haggins Says:

I actually agree with Clayton , Miller does not belong!!

  37. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

    Get a clue Says:
    Should of kept Spencer Schnell
    .
    .

    Looked better in preseason.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The be fair to Scotty Miller, he IS a rookie. And just look at him…the boy hasn’t even gotten body hair yet.

I don’t know if he’ll ever be any good, but being this hard on a rookie who is only a couple games into his career is silly…especially when he is depth at best right now.

  39. Will Says:

I’ve seen Scotty Miller open several times and Jameis doesn’t come close to getting him the ball. High School routes or not, he is getting open
