“Polynesian Power”

Dominant.

Is Vita Vea the most powerful defensive tackle in the game? That may be a stretch, but an NFL Network analyst actually went there.

Former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger, who works for FOX and NFL Network, likes to break down tape and twitter out his findings — video style!

And while breaking down the All-22 video of the International Embarrassment in London, the Bucs’ loss to the Stinking Panthers, Vea’s play jumped out at Baldinger. He showed highlights of Vea that revealed his power. On one play, Baldinger noted it looked as if the entire center of the Panthers’ offensive line tried to take out Vea and he barely budged.

Baldinger said Vea is a huge reason why the Bucs have the best run defense in the NFL.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Joe understands so many folks are still bitter the Bucs didn’t draft this Derwin James. But it’s not like Vea, who the Bucs drafted instead, is out there getting worked over on Sundays.

You can watch Baldinger’s breakdown below.

    This is encouraging.

  2. Easy Says:

Vea is a monster in the middle! If we could get some pass rush around him it would be nice since hes constantly double and sometimes triple teamed.

  3. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Doesn’t matter with 6 turnovers… He is a beast tho

  4. james west Says:

there is a silver lining on this hideous dark cloud, of doom, could we have sapp 2,0 or better? only time will tell, now if white could start getting his chit together, could we have another great tandem like we had in brooks and sapp, wouldn’t that be something with whitehead shining at safety, damn we got to get some help at the cornerback position, i know it’s a stretch but with vea’s play at his level after 19 games see what happens with white, we could have the nucleus of another dominate buccaneer defense

He needs a pal next draft….

  6. BucDan Says:

The Baldy video above only showed when he lined up at his traditional NT spot, but during the last two games, Vea has also collapsed the pocket from the edge. And he looked good doing it.

No qualms from me on Vita.

Another note: Devin White looked much better in his second season debut. Forget the stiff-arm. I’ve seen Patrick Willis get trucked. That’s football. Still needs to be aware vs the pass though.

  7. Tampa2ATL Says:

Watching that video = pure joy.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

VV has been playing great ever since the bears game last year….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. LUVMYBUCS Says:

This is why some of us wanted the organization to draft this kid.
You can’t hand that kind of power consistently and not give up leverage.
He’s making Kats fold like a wet napkin in this b!tch. So much for a big dude from the West Coast not being able to handle the heat huh? lol

Still would LUV to see us add Leonard Williams to this line.

    DE Ndamukong Suh
    NT Vita Vea
    DE Leonard Williams

Might have to surrender a 3 round pick. But it’s worth it.

  10. ChanEpic Says:

I saw this on r/buccaneers too. Such good breakdown. Vita is THAT dude for sure.

  11. 'daBUCisthis? Says:

Thanks Joe.. so much Doom n gloom these days. Very refreshing

  12. Buczilla Says:

I’m fine with us taking Vita over Derwin. Derwin was injury prone in college and he’s injury prone in the NFL. I wish Vea had 2-3 sacks at this point, but he’s a good player and one of Licht’s few hits.

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Lol please show me footage of young Patrick Willis getting trucked.
    It doesn’t exist lol

  14. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    TRENCHWARFARE!!!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Keep in mind that with the Vea pick….we received MJ Stewart & Carlton Davis as a bonus…….(free picks)

Now…maybe MJ will only be a ST player eventually or a backup….but Davis will likely end up being a #2 corner as he is now.

    Not bad.

  16. D-Rome Says:

I’ve been saying it all year that Vita Vea is a force and one of the few bright spots on the team. He will get to a point in his career where he can dominate a game defensively without recording a single stat. Of course, that won’t stop the slack jawed mouth-breathers from claiming he sucks because he doesn’t get 10 sacks a season.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

AlteredEgo … Vita has a ‘pal’ right now, and that’s Ndamukong Suh. Notice how much better Vea is playing this year than last year when his ‘sidekick’ was GMC? I’m convinced it’s because the opponent’s OLine has to ‘pick their poison’ … Vea or Suh to double-team. TOGETHER they’re crushing it. Bucs #1 priorities for defensive re-signings this offseason need to be Suh & Barrett. Then sign a veteran starting-caliber CB AND safety, draft a DE or OLB high, and we’ll be in business.

GRRREAT video & analysis by Baldy BTW Joe. I love the way he often keys on the positives instead of just beating down the Bucs like so many in the media do.

  18. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

VV is a ray of hope.

  19. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

DR…I don’t include Suh in the big picture…I understand how great Suh is this year and how the combination is the best in many years

  20. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    DR

    Suh must retire as BUC

  21. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Our front seven will shine for the next nine games. The addition of JPP in football condition will go a long way to put them over the top. We will have a really good to great rotation going when they get someone who can spell David a bit.

It’s our young and inexperienced DBs that need to “grow up fast” in the next few weeks if we are going to have a hope of reaching 8-8 or 9-7.

  22. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I love several of the comments. Especially yours, Defense Rules.

  23. Waterboy Says:

But but we could’ve have had Derwin James. I haven’t been hearing that song much this season. Hopefully Devin White will silence the draft guru crowd also once he hits his stride.

  24. Bucamania Says:

VV is a beast. No doubt about it.

  25. 941bucsfan Says:

Yea where that patrick willis footage at? Stop making stuff up

  26. Rick Says:

I’ve always been a fan of VV and baldy breakdowns. You really want to hear baldy geek out, find clips where he breaks down quinton Nelson film. That stuff is hilarious.

  27. 941bucsfan Says:

Defense rules.. stop it man. Gerald mccoy has the carolina panthers with the best dline in the nfl right now to go along with a league leading 27 sacks. Stop trying to say Vea is better because he is playing with suh instead of mccoy… how about saying Vea is better because he aint a rookie and injured anymore. Thats makes a huuggeeee difference

  28. 941bucsfan Says:

Gmc got more tackles than suh, more pressures than suh, more qb hits than suh, more sacks than suh, more tackles for loss than suh, and he has played less snaps than suh. Suh aint did S!IT. The bucs shoot the a and b gaps on running downs with the linebackers making it impossible to run on them, just like they did when schiano ran the defense in 2012

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

And the best part of Baldy’s report? The last sentence!

“And he is just getting started”

And it’s been mentioned how much Suh has helped VV…I suspect the reverse of that is also true. It would be great to have Suh finish here next to VV.

Now let’s focus on the trenches and add to those two on D as well as picking a dominant OL in the draft.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

941bucsfan … I’ve never been anti-GMC & I’m not now. Just happen to believe that Suh is a better ‘fit’ for this defense in terms of run defense especially. But also in terms of ‘interior DLine pressure’.

Through 6 games, Suh has .5 sacks, 13 combined tackles (6 solo), 1 TFL, 4 QB Hits and 2 FRs (1 of which was a TD). GMC has 2.5 sacks (ALL against us), 14 combined tackles (6 solo), 3 TFLs, 5 QB Hits and 0 FRs.

Suh has played 329 defensive snaps to 275 for GMC. Bucs are #1 in run defense this year (in BOTH rushing yardage allowed AND in rushing yardage allowed per attempt), while the Panthers are #21 & #24 in those 2 categories. Last year we ranked just about where the Panthers are ranked this year in run defense, when GMC was paired with Vea for us. Pardon me if I happen to think that Ndamukong Suh has made a huge difference in this run defense, and overall DLine play for that matter. They’re 2 different players with 2 different skillsets, and Suh matches up better with what we need.

  31. PRBucFan Says:

    Once JPP gets back

    The sacks will pour in

    Vita is gold

  32. BigHog Says:

He is POWERFUL …He is the NEW FACE OF THE TEAM!!

  33. BucAllNight Says:

    Pat P + JPP = 5 or 6th Seed in NFC

Jason give us what we need!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  34. Bruce's Biscuit Says:

I want him on my tug-a-war team

  35. Pugs&Bucs Says:

I’d like to see Vea at FB in short yardage.

  36. Beligerentbuc Says:

It’s painful watching the Defense come together…when it starts playing together, it will be a beautiful product.

Bowles D seems to stuff the run and apply pressure with a 5th. The DB’s have to play more press and yet our guys are still playing off 10yrds to avoid the big plays.

    Gotta get it fixed🤦‍♀️

  37. WestChap Says:

Yes, let’s see a little Refrigerator Perry RB action on the goal line! VV running in A gap between Ali and Jensen… nice! Great to see those 2 sacks that while collected by teammates were 100% VV’s creation.

  38. lambchop Says:

    Defense Rules,

Shaq is probably gone next year if he continues his dominant play. His price tag is going through the roof!

  39. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t want to hear about Dominant unless you are Winning. Vince Lombardi once said, Winning is all that matters in this league. Don’t be fooled he said. Everything else is bullsh**. Amen brother Vince! Our Bucs appear to be Dominant in Losing.

  40. OBP Says:

Honestly if you give Vita an actual NFL quality secondary to rely on he really could be a guy who gets 10+ sacks a year, especially when he masters his technique.
