O.J. Howard Off Board (Again?)

October 29th, 2019

Update.

It seems there is more news about Bucs tight end O.J. Howard being trade bait.

He isn’t, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who just Twittered Howard is not available. Currently.

@RapSheet: When one team recently called the Bucson former 1st round TE O.J. Howard, that team was told he is not available, per me and @TomPelissero. That is where this stands now.

The keyword here is “now.” What is “now?” Does now change in 10 minutes, in January? When.

Joe hopes Howard stays. He is too good to give up on. Byron Leftwich may not know how to use him but how do you know whether Leftwich will be around come February?

Nothing this organization does makes sense. Why go back and forth like this? If anything now you just shook the confidence of one of your best young players and the time to get something for him has passed

  2. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE

Leftwich doesnt know how to use OJ and his numbers are putrid

OJ and his Agent wants to be paid top 3 Tightends with 5 year contract

    WHAT HAPPENS?

40 catches for 12 million dollars when we have to pay Godwin?

  3. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

Next coaching staff will need him and he will be gone because thats what the Bucs do.

  4. NPRSageBoy Says:

Keep him, trade him….who really cares anymore.

Hardcore Buc fans have put this BS out of their mind earlier than usual this year and are focused on the upcoming house cleaning and the draft

Funny how in years past the Bucs weren’t unmasked as phonies u til after Halloween. This year, thanks to BA and Licht, we can focus on the holidays early.

    Peace, out

What in the world is going on with this organization? #TakeTheWheelJesus #IJustWantToWin #TiredOfLosing

  6. Richard Dickson Says:

The only thing that’s gone back and forth are the reports about Howard’s availability. For all we know, the team has never had any intentions of trading him.

  7. Tye Says:

Arians says he is trying to win now so keeping OJ makes since IF you are going to actually play to his strengths..
If Arians truly wants to win now yet keeps trotting out ‘Turnover’, Then the self proclaimed ‘qb whisperer’ must not think he can help Griffin either!

  8. AllhailJPP Says:

I wish Joe would repost from the summer with those moron fans who were saying we would win 8, 9, 10 games.

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Nobody is going blow Arians away with a 13 catch often injured overrated TE.

  10. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“World Champs Patriots withe the greatest HC Bellichick wants OJ

Bellichick paid Sanu for a 2nd round pick

OJ is 2x better player than Sanu

Bellichick will give a 1 and 3rd for OJ if he is for sale”

  11. ElioT Says:

Trading O.J. would be certain career suicide for Licht.

Now, he’s already attempted career suicide many times before but he can’t tie a decent noose and when he does the ceiling fan wasn’t mounted correctly.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Everything is falling apart but our kicker went 3-3 Sunday…..

  13. Mike10 Says:

    Can Leftwich.

We were hoping that we finally had the coaching staff that would maximize the talent of our players. Now we’re shipping out the best ones that don’t fit the system. Booo

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

So is the other TE available? Asking for a friend.

I thought the team would be better with BA running the show but not with him thinking this would be so easy now he’s in midseason like what the hell. Im not angry like 90% of bucs fans with the unrealistic expectation that a decade of losing would change in half a season. At this point I’m hoping the Glazers look at what happened this past Sunday during and after the game and give licht the credit he deserves for all this losing, his draft picks just don’t produce at a high enough level

  17. Bird Says:

I would reach out to Lamarcus on what moves to make if I were the Bucs

He said earlier he only trusts his own evaluation skills
He also feels Jameis is worth 2 or 3 1st round picks

  18. Kord Says:

Just said Chris Harris jr has 6 teams after him, hope the Bucs are one of them

  19. Allbuccedup Says:

Should have traded Howard and VH3 to Jets for Jamal Adams. If they seen interested throw in a 3rd round pick also.

  20. PUGS&BUCS Says:

In 8 games this season Dalvin Cook matched Howard’s total career yards.

But Howard “fell” to us so we HAD to take him, right? Because you can find RB’s in later rounds.

  21. adam from ny Says:

oj wants out because he’s thinking about his next contract,,,arians is destroying him, like gruden did to alstott

  22. Defense Rules Says:

Pewter Power … Your 3:07 take on this situation made me think about what MY expectations were for this season. They weren’t that “a decade of losing would change in half a season”. Quite the contrary actually. I anticipated that this defense would come together gradually albeit slowly because of so many new starters & a new scheme. BUT … I also anticipated that our offense would continue performing at a level close to where it ended up last year, maybe a tad lower but still close. I anticipated that we’d end the year someplace between 6-10 and 10-6 depending on how fast things came together.

A foundational belief in there was that this coaching staff would be cosmic; a significant upgrade over what we had. Thus far I’ve been very impressed with Todd Bowles & what he’s accomplished with this defense. IMO it’s on the rise. There was no doubt in my mind that this inexperienced Secondary would be the weak link UNLESS we got a veteran Corner & a veteran Safety to guide them on the field. I should’ve expected that wouldn’t happen with Jason Lichtweight here. Even still, the youngsters back there look like they’re gaining confidence & I think we’ll see some major strides in this 2nd half of the season. Not perfection by any means, but good solid progress.

But our Bucs’ offense has been a major disappointment to me. I’d hoped that it could ‘carry the day’ until the defense gelled. Instead it’s been the weak link, and IMO that’s PRIMARILY on Jason Licht & Bruce Arians. That JL took NO ACTION to at least develop some viable depth on our OLine should be cause for dismissal right there. We drafted zero OLinemen AND we passed on those veteran FAs who were available for reasonable $$$, all the while saying ‘We’re good’ when anyone with half a brain KNEW that was a lie.

But the one I’m now even more disappointed with is BA. As a very long-time head coach, even though new here, he HAD TO KNOW that this OLine was a house of cards. He HAD TO KNOW what that would do to this offense. He could’ve done something about that months ago, but chose instead to white-wash over it. And the topping on that cake is that he put a brand-new OC in charge of making it work, an OC who’s obviously in WAY OVER HIS HEAD. P-poor offensive coaching has lost us at least 2 games thus far this season, and all we get is more of BA’s smoke. How about ACTION instead Bucco?

If I was the Glazers I’d be furious right now. We all thought that we were getting a highly-experienced two-time Coach of the Year who could set us on the road to winning. Instead we got a DIC … Delegator-In-Charge.

Really? BL is an OC-in-training. He’s a rookie like a lot of the players only it’s in coaching. Thank gawd for no dimwit trades today. BA lost the TN game. Who called the initial plays on offense to start the game? LVD finally lost his cool after the game. He’s one of our very best players, and he’s been here for 8 years! How many HC changes has he endured? He puts out a white flag and at least 10 teams will answer ASAP! BA has 4 days to beat Seattle on the road. Bucs beat this bunch when they were unstoppable in Seattle with Glennon as QB. BA better come up with the offensive gameplan to beat the Seahawks. He’s got the players, and they have endured a brutal road trip. Otherwise, he’s going to have a possible revolt if the players are embarrassed again.

  28. July Joe Says:

    OJ was never going anywhere.

I’m more surprised Brate wasn’t traded, as since Leftwich doesn’t seem to want passes thrown to any tight end, we definitely don’t need TWO high-priced tight ends … I figured Brate would be the guy to go as he’s older, way less talented, more expensive, and as he can likely be replaced by Tanner Hudson.

I’m glad OJ didn’t get traded, but Leftwich needs to use him more … and OJ needs to stop dropping the ball as well.

  29. richbucsfan Says:

Wow! Too many words and too much time invested by some on this issue. It’s enough to know this organization has no idea how to compete with the Bellichicks of the NFL. We have no vote in any of this. It’s not our team, it’s the Glasers’ to do with as they want. We either go to games or not. An empty stadium is the best way to show your disgust.
