Team Glazer poses with Bruce Arians

Bucco Bruce Arians was asked today about whether it’s his call on the future of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Arians didn’t exactly answer directly, but he strongly implied that when Team Glazer seeks his evaluation on the soon-to-be free agent QB, Arians will not be soft or dance around the truth.

“I will not lie; that’s for sure,” Arians said. “They’ll get my honest evaluation.”

He went on to say being honest is who he is.

From a media standpoint, Joe finds it interesting that Arians is even entertaining those kinds of questions. He easily could just say something like, ‘Jameis is the quarterback, he’s part of the reason I’m here and personnel questions are for Jason Licht after the season.’

Yet Arians is ok with playing along with the possibility that Jameis has only 10 more games in a Bucs uniform.

Joe wonders how Arians would answer the potential question from Team Glazer: “Bruce, is Teddy Bridgewater, just 14 months older than Jameis, a better option for us to pay?”

I think he answered the question. Winston will not get the big payday from the Bucs. He’ll be someone’s backup QB next year. Too many oh shats eliminating atta boys, in his 5th year as a starter.

  2. Ndog Says:

If I didn’t love this team so much I would beg us to go after Bridgewater and watch him suffer the same fate as our current QB cause NO ONE is going to win under the current conditions.

But I know that it would be an epic disaster and then we would just have the same sorry team minus a good passing game, so please no thank you.

  3. Ndog Says:

The day Jameis is gone it will be the best day in this franchise cause it will mean the excuses are gone. When he is gone people will finally realize what some of us have been saying for some time and that is NO QB is going to win in this current situation. Then maybe then we will go about building a quality OL, defense and running game. But guess what then we won’t have a QB while Jameis is winning Superbowls for the Patriots.

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

Have a hard time believing much of anything BA says….

  5. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog

Will you be moving to NE as well? That WILL be a great day for this franchise.

  6. crazyBucs_CL Says:

“They’ll get my honest evaluation.” …. that does not mean CORRECT evaluation.
Lovie gave his “ honest evaluation” , but has been a disaster …..

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  7. SteveK Says:

The truth will set us free!

I think another QB could win here, if Jameis can’t play well enough to earn another contract next year.

Good QB draft this year too!

  8. Sharthappens Says:

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this QB is gone sooner than later. Can he take the NDog character along with him? Still looking at 4-12 for the season. Burro is in the Crosshairs

  9. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard is barely watching any NFL games this year because of the unholy hell he’s lived through under scheme-glaser.
Dear NFL: The glasers are devaluing and tarnishing your product big time.

    #Mark Cuban was right!

  10. Cgmaster27 Says:

What is all this Bridgwater stuff? He would get killed behind this line. Hes a dink and dunk qb, except against us ofcourse. The saints have won 2 of those games without even scoring 14 points! You think the bucs defense woulda pulled that off? Heck no on bridgwater. If you go with a new qb, just draft one, this class has a few.

  11. SteveK Says:

It would be great to win and compete this year. I hope Jameis has a 10 game winning streak, and a trip to playoffs- beginning on Sunday.

We can’t afford to have “bad” Jameis show up another game this year. Not if we want playoffs.

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

Good luck to Winston. The future outside of Tampa is bright. Maye you can become the heir apparent to Tom Brady?
When you meet with Belichek he’ll be sitting in an executive chair with his back to you. When you walk in he’ll say (without turning around) “hello Jameis…I’ve been expecting you.”

    LOL Go PATS!!

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

Not sure if Winston haters are morons or work for the glasers?

  14. Tye Says:

With several talented QBs coming out of college and the possibility of many quality qbs being free agents, all which play superior to JW, it would be such a horrible business decision and investment to keep JW..
Because of the talent at QB that may be available next season, JWs best option is most like MLB!

  15. crazyBucs_CL Says:

I’m hoping to win the Lottery for 20 years….. is NOT working.
Hopping for something, wishing for miracles…. doesn’t mean is going to happen … sorry.

    BA = LovieS 2.0

  16. Howard Cosell Says:

all which play superior to JW,

    Dude……..dude……..wtf?……that’s an awfully bold statement.
So you think a new QB will fix the Bucs??
Lol..not being mean here but…..are you retarded?

  17. Howard Cosell Says:

Anyone with eyes and an IQ above 90 can see the problems with the bucs go much much much deeper than QB…or HC…..or GM

  18. Bucnjim Says:

Arians already had to get rid of our backup because of the frailness of Winston’s physche. Now he has to worry about what he says to the media?

  19. Ndog Says:

Sorry fellas I’ve been here before you and I’ll be here long after you. I not a Jameis fan I’m a Bucs fan I just actually know what I’m watching while most are just spewing brainwashed nonsense.

  20. Jerseybuc Says:

The Patriots have a revolving door on their o line, let Nate Solder walk for instance and he is a big money disaster for the Giants. Brady gets the ball out with precision in less time than almost every QB in the league.
If Brady played behind our o line he would still be Brady. Our QB takes too much time to make decisions and he has a long release and bad footwork. He has undeniable talent but until he improves his game we are stuck in purgatory.
I am ready to move on because the mistakes I see are some of the same ones I saw 5 years ago. What changes? Blame the o line, blame the D, coaching, ownership etc…it is the guy touching the ball every offensive play that is the issue.

So you think a new QB will fix the Bucs??
Lol..not being mean here but…..are you retarded?

Yes Howard they do actually believe the likes of Teddy Bridgewater, Kyle Allen and Case Keenum can win with this team. THEY TRULY BELIEVE THIS AND THAT IS THE PROOF THEY ARE CLUELESS.

  22. Howard Cosell Says:

Or maybe scheme-glaser has paid internet shills?

  23. Ndog Says:

Tom Brady is HORRIBLE when facing constant pressure yet you think he would be good here? Do you even watch football?

  24. Howard Cosell Says:

    shill
    /SHil/

an accomplice of a swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others.

  25. Howard Cosell Says:

Brady gives the perception of being a good QB because Belichek is great and Kraft is a good owner. Case in point: Belichek, through his genius, has built a deep and stellar oline that would make ANY QB look like god

  26. Tim Says:

If you are unable to spell the owner’s names correctly, you have no ability to question anyone else’s intelligence.

This teams problems run much deeper than just QB, yes.
However, it is the most important position in football and the QB here in Tampa has proven he is not a true franchise QB. Maybe he turns it around this year and keeps his turnover below 18 and gets a franchise tag. (that is what he is playing for)

An average IQ football fan can see that is unlikely for JW and most likely he will be a FA at the end of this year and will be “competing” else where next year. Too many young QB’s look good now this year, along with a STRONG QB class in the draft. It does not look good for JW to remain a Buc.

If you honestly think otherwise, you might of sniffed too much glue.

  27. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Joe’s keyboard is on fire today! Lotsa articles, thanks Joe!

But you forgot “Most Hated” in between “America’s” and “Quarterback”. Spell check only does so much.

  28. ColBucFan Says:

Fitz showed that Winston is the offensive problem.

  29. Pewter power Says:

If winston plays like he did for that 3 game stretch and they still lose like they did I dont even know at this point. He’ll probably still get franchised just to see if a better defense helps the offense. If the draft a rookie quarterback and start him immediately might as well reboot the franchise

  30. doctor_berto Says:

As long as the bucs don’t hire leftwich to be HC after Arians leaves ill be happy. Oh, and if Licht is gone!

  31. Howard Cosell Says:

    Are you 15? Lol
You do understand that I spell the owners names that way on purpose right?
And by the cerebral and poignant content of my posts you can see that my cognitive faculties are functioning at a high level.
If you care about Tampa (and not the glasers) you would heed my words

  32. Howard Cosell Says:

As long as the bucs don’t hire leftwich to be HC after Arians leaves ill be happy.

That’s the glasers plan….hire Fatwich on the cheap

  33. Pewter power Says:

Theres way to much focus on moving on from winston when he plays bad and not enough credit when he plays well. If you are smart dont do to yourselves what you did when donovan Smith got his extension because in the end the owners will do what they want to do not what fans think they should do, your not stakeholders in any way except emotionally. Root for the team or don’t but whining about moving on from him for 12-15 posts a day is just pointless frustration.

  34. ClodHopper Says:

Saw an interesting stat on Twitter this morning. If the Pats offense never even took the field this year, they would be 3-3-1. That now THAT is complimentary football.

  35. Howard Cosell Says:

    @ ClodHopper

Thank you for the intelligent post sir!

  36. Howard Cosell Says:

    Summary:
    * Bucs are beyond pathetic
    * 17 years of different QB’s HC’s and GM’s have not changed that
    * The ONLY explanation is that the owners are horrible
    * Owners are pathetic spinless brats and will never sell the team
    * Best compromise is for them to move the team so we can end this crap

I know it’s sort of like a Thanos solution to overpopulation but it’s the only realistic one that Howard can see

  37. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

THAT’S ALL FOLKS!!! Winston is TOAST!!!! There is simply NO other way to interpret BA’s comments!!! WOW!!!

  38. T REX Says:

Winstonites, please stop whining. My God, so many excuses. So many rationalizations.

  39. onetrickpony Says:

Good Winston will show up Sunday.
Its always never what you expect, from him

  40. unbelievable Says:

Bullchit Bruce talking about honestly… HA! What a joke.

He could prob get a cabinet position with the current admin based on his coach speak skills alone.

  41. Buczilla Says:

Arians is not defending Jameis because there is nothing to defend. Jameis continues to do the same stupid things that he did as a rookie. Inexcusable for a 5th year player with as much talent as he has. If he turns it around (history has shown me that this is a pipe dream) then we can focus our resources on fixing the rest of this sorry a$$ team. No chance in hell that I’m taking that bet.

  42. D-Rome Says:

I can’t imagine Teddy Bridgewater is going to hit free agency. I’ve always had the impression he may replace Brees one day. He knows their system and Brees won’t play forever.

  43. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

Is this a version of the old cliche? “Damning somebody with faint praise”.

  45. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

This team needs a lot of help outside of QB. Which makes tying up 25M+ to a QB right now a kind of waste. We need money to build a real team and have a QB on a cheap rookie deal in a few years.
I am a big Jameis supporter but maybe what is best for both sides is to move on after this year. I just don’t know how paying Jameis is going to help him succeed here, but on a more solid team he could come in and win right away.

It’s sucks to write that because I want Jameis to take the Bucs back to prominence but it’s becoming harder and harder to envision with Jameis Winston.

  46. Bucsfanman Says:

The Bucs, save for a tiny window, have been an awful franchise. Cosell hit on it up top: We’ve been through countless players, GMs, and coaches. All had one, actually TWO constants:
    Ownership
    LOSING

You don’t have to be a savant to figure that one out!
    Leadership starts at the TOP.

  47. Snook Says:

Bridgewater won’t be anything outside of Payton’s system. Sorry.

Same reason New Orleans doesn’t ever give big contracts to any of their RBs. Bush was gone after his rookie contract. Ingram was gone after his rookie contract. Someone will over pay Kamara after his rookie contract is over.

Some of you folks just don’t get it. Often times, its not the player, its the system they’re in.

How has Jimmy Graham done since he left New Orleans?

  48. Anthony Dickson Says:

Teddy Bridgewater? I like Bridgewater, just not as a starting caliber type of QB, he’s got the talent to take over if needed as a backup but I wouldn’t put the weight of an entire franchise as a full time starter on his shoulders.

  49. SchlomieBarmitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

If profitability exists, even when losses are incurred, what would be reason for changing the business model?……There is no incentive to change the business model.

  50. BigMacAttack Says:

Winston in the MLB pitching will lead the league in hit batters, wild pitches, walks. “We released Gruden so we could build a perennial winner”. It’s been one used car salesman after another, since. Maybe the Glazers are in need of self evaluations. They haven’t hit on one decision since the Old Man left.

  51. JimmyJack Says:

Sounds like Winston got ten games to earn it. Good luck!!

It’s time to win or go home…….And by win I mean don’t lose and throw it to the other team.

Had he been doing it already we would be 3-3 minimal……..But maybe he fools around and gives us 8 solid games and we go 6-2……..This gonna be a fun season…..You watch and see!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

Tom Brady is HORRIBLE when facing constant pressure yet you think he would be good here? Do you even watch football?”

Yeah, so horrible he will go down as the best who ever played. So genius, if he is horrible facing pressure why doesn’t every defense just apply pressure? Blitz him all the time then? Is it that easy? I will give you a clue.
He gets the ball out in about 2.1 seconds. He is throwing to spots and expects his receivers to be there. Winston holds the ball too long, throws too late, and too often our receivers are standing still waiting for the ball. As BA said, he ran himself into half those sacks last week. Or, we are throwing deep balls and our QB is not a particularly good deep ball thrower.
My point was less about Brady, it was more about our O line and the fact that other teams don’t necessarily have the best O line, but can succeed. They are not the main problem. Patriots do well with whoever they play there, Do they have an elite LT? Have they really ever had one? NO. It is a system based on the ball getting out quickly and hitting receivers on the move.
Our QB has shown us what he is all about. I don’t think he is going to get much better because he seems to be pretty much the same guy we drafted. Time to turn the page IMO.

  53. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

If the haters get their wish and Jameis is forced to leave, the Bucs need to bring in another chump like Josh McCown. You cannot blow a top 10 pick on a rookie QB to come in and play with this team as it is currently assembled. Burn it to the ground and start over. Let some chump QB take the beatings for now. Any rookie that plays behind this offensive line, without a running game and no defense will look a lot like Sam Darnold. So if it happens I hope all you guys dying for Jameis understand the hell we will be entering for the next 3-5 years if that happens.

  54. Bucnjim Says:

I swear these are the same fans that supported Josh Freeman. Oh no you’ll be sorry you let him go he’s going to another team and win The Super Bowl!

  55. Bucnjim Says:

There are three things that normally separate the great QBs from the rest and NONE of them are arm strength. First accuracy, then decision making, followed by quick release. Which one of these is a Winston strong point? Actually it’s none of these.

  56. BucEmUp Says:

Ndog….EXACTLY. No qb will win here bexause this is a bad team

  57. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Yeah but it’s the first year they have a lot of problems to fix. QB is the worst part of this team aside from secondary. getting a cheap rookie in here and a new right tackle will be good. also get some vets in the secondary. It’s not as awful as you keep saying.

  58. BucsFan727 Says:

We need a guy who can be mobile. Theres a few good QBs coming out next year. Definitely more accurate than Winston. Im fine with getting a new QB. Its time. Just like changing the alarm clock numbers on the jerseys. Its time.

  59. Anonymous Says:

Some moron that runs a Bucs blog earlier this year said it would all be up to Bucco Bruce who will decide.

    No. Don’t be stupid.

Glazers decide; input by many…including fans and how they show up in the last five home games (or don’t).

  60. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s not like Jameis just got bad. He’s been a wreck since he got here. He was exciting to watch for a while but his decision making is the worst.

  61. NPRSageBoy Says:

Why not take a flyer on Josh Rosen? BA has inside info on the kid from Leftwich. How bad could he be if you have to start over anyway?

Let’s face it: JayMiss ain’t taking this team to the playoffs anytime soon.

  62. Tye Says:

You are right about that, BigMacAttack….
so many of these QBs that will be available next season, are way better at protecting the ball..
It will be such a pleasant change to watch game after game and rarely see or expect interceptions… I remember 1 guy had 40+ TD and only 6 ints…
That would be extraordinary for a Bucs QB…

  63. Oregonbucsfan Says:

Sorry to interrupt this very needed commentary on our 5th year rookie QB, Famous Jameis, but the rest of the league is either buying or selling. Lions just traded a DB to Seahawks for a very reasonable price. Our draft position will certainly be better than Seattle so that guy could/should have come here. Someone wake up Dim bulb.

  64. Oneilbucs Says:

Ndog I’m with you bro. I’ve been saying that for a long time as well. Every body says that defense wins championships. The national media says it. The local media has said the same thing and even fans has said it on this site. But all I hear is Jamies. It’s Jamies fault why we lose it’s Jamies fault why we don’t run the ball. It’s Jamies fault for every thing. And our defense have been trash before Jamies got here and it’s still trash that Jamies is here. So if defense wins championships why not attack the defense for giving up over 300 hundred yards a game. Or not being able to sack the quarterback this is why we are losing. Jamies has felt like I have to score 40 points a game just to win and that’s why he try to be superman. It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is next year we are still going to lose but it will be with a different Jersey named and number. Focus on defense and running the ball and we will win. Ask The 49ers!!!!!

  65. DooshLaRue Says:

    Excellent take Snook.

  66. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Oregon, because the Bucs would be sellers, not buyers.

  67. BucsBandit Says:

    ONE MORE TIME…

No way in hell does Belichick want Jameis Winston. His system relies on quick reads and getting rid of the ball FAST. Winston does the opposite.

  68. CalBucsFan Says:

Hey Joe, since there’s several teams out there that would conisder signing Jameis if he’s released at the end of the season, why not try to trade him? How about a poll with responses to see what Buc fans think he’s worth? It might be the first time I read everyone’s responses!

Me? I would take one 1st & one 3rd round pick for him and then play Ryan Griffin for the rest of the season. I have confidence he could lead the team to the same 6-10 record that Jameis will end up with.

Then, go sign Bridgewater on the first day of free agency! If they had signed him during the offseason, Winston would have been benched by now and Bridgewater would be starting AND WINNING!

  69. BuccaneEric75 Says:

CalBucsFan, a team would have to have 21 million in cap space right now to trade for Winston without giving up a player/players to offset salaries.

  70. SteveK Says:

    A 1st and a 3rd for 10 games of Jameis^

    We would’ve made that deal.

I doubt we could even get a 3rd rounder.

  71. Bucnjim5656 Says:

Is there anyone outside (or even inside) the Tampa Bay Who still thinks Winston is a franchise QB? Well besides one Joe and a couple hundred FL State diehards. A few JBfan’s and a handful of gold diggers.

  72. Jmon300@gmail.com Says:

I think he would say Jameis is the MaN!!!!! You’d be fools to get rid of him!!!

  73. Buccfan37 Says:

Winston is no Ryan Leaf right?

  74. July Joe Says:

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA, you guys are reaching like crazy.

WATCH Arians’ reaction when a reporter asked him about Jameis maybe being on the trade block … Arians eyes bugged, then rolled and then he said “good specualtion”, chuckled and shook his head. He thinks it’s IDIOTIC how Tampa media treats Jameis.

As for Bridgewater … he’s not even close to the talent Winston is … they’re not even in the same universe as far as talent goes.

My guess is Teddy will be Brees backup AGAIN next season as I don’t see a single team that will hand him the #1 spot and pay him any more than a guy like Brissett recently got. Having all the time in the world in the pocket and throwing to wide-open guys in New Orleans is not much of an “audition” for a bad team like the Bengals or Dolphins, both of which probably know Bridgewater would SUCK on their teams.

  75. July Joe Says:

    @BucsBandit,

Belichick has raved about Jameis in the past and thinks the world of Licht’s acumen as well. I’d bet $$$ that when the Bucs had the #1 pick, Licht asked Belichick who he’s take, and he said “Jameis”.

As for Belichick’s “system” … he doesn’t have one. His system is built around his players, unlike idiot coaches that force their players to bend to their system. The Patriots run a quick, short passing game because it suits Brady.

Winston has been FORCED to play in a “vertical passing attack” since entering the league, even though the advanced stats show that he is best at hitting intermediate routes and outside the pocket.

I have no doubt Belichick loves Winston’s skill-set and game and have no doubt Jameis could thrive in New England, as he’d be shocked how wide open the receivers get and how he’s not getting hit hardly ever by defenders … and would feel like he was in heaven knowing all he needs to score is maybe 17-23 points and a “W” is almost a sure-thing.

  76. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I’m sure Belichick loves Winston’s skill set. Especially when they play the Bucs. “I’d bet $$$…..” on something that could never, nor will ever be known. That’s balls.

  77. RustyRhinos Says:

Why is it that Buccaneer fans who are not happy with our “franchise” QB’s record and his lack of improvement in year FIVE labels as “haters”? Can those fellow Buccaneer fans not want to see improvement in year FIVE of Winston as our QB? Is it “hating” to want to see our QB WIN games? Yes there are 51 other players on the field but how many if them touch the ball every offensive play? Who out off the 52 has thrown several first play INT’s? First play Pick Sixes? I want to Win games, I want to win our division, I want to see dread on the other team when our team takes the field. Who in the NFC South is scared of Winston as our QB? Does our QB require the opposition to lose sleep having to game plan against him? Again calling the fans who want to see Wins a Ton to win double digit games in on season not two “haters”. I just do not understand that.

SHOW ME!!! Talk time is way past over. SHOW ME! Bring on the Titans.
    Go! Bucs!!

  78. MadMax Says:

Trade Winston, Evans, and Brate….we’re rebuilding and need $$$

Godwin is our #1 now, sign a cheaper #2….keep OJ on his rookie contract and lets see what happens

  79. Allbuccedup Says:

Good Winston Bad Winston if your BA you have to ask yourself is he worth 27 mil if not you could sign a couple of good players for that amount of money and still draft another QB.

  80. Bucsace Says:

By the end of this season Teddy Bridgewater will probably be the most expensive free agent out there, not sure if he is worth a long term big dollars contract…….However, yes, he would be an improvement over Winston

  81. July Joe Says:

HOW DO YOU PEOPLE NOT GET IT? “Good Winston” & “Bad Winston” … OF COURSE there is no consistency when you’re on a team with no run game and no defense and have to carry the offense game in and game out.

The ONLY QB in the entire NFL with even a .500 record who has a bottom 11 defense and bottom 11 run game is the reigning MVP … and if Matt Gay would have hit his chip-shot against the Giants, the only other QB would be JAMEIS WINSTON.

    IDIOT FANS.
