Fear Bruce Arians
October 26th, 2019Are players scared of Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians? The veteran Bucs coach wondered aloud yesterday if that might be the case.
The trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon. If the Bucs lose to the Titans, this team absolutely should be sellers. So someone asked Arians yesterday in his post-practice presser if any players get nervous that they may get shipped out.
Arians’ didn’t disagree, but wondered if some may be more scared of him than nervous about getting dealt.
“Yeah, I think so,” Arians said of players being nervous with the trade deadline so near. “It’s just natural, especially if your name’s out there somewhere.
“I always tell them, ‘Just come see me – you’ll get the straight and honest.’ So far, nobody has come to see me, so I don’t know how nervous they are – or maybe they’re scared to come see me.”
Joe just wishes Bucs defensive backs weren’t so scared of opposing receivers like they may be the trade deadline or Arians himself.
If the Bucs win Sunday, shop for a corner. No need for a Pro Bowl corner, just a competent starter. Joe guesses there are 50 to choose from.
And if the Bucs lose, there shouldn’t be one player on a one-year contract on the roster next week.
Inactivity between now and Tuesday afternoon would be the worst activity.
October 26th, 2019 at 8:47 am
No. No. No. You don’t make major changes in season.
October 26th, 2019 at 8:51 am
Scared or nervous? How about excited to be rescued of the titanic…..
October 26th, 2019 at 9:00 am
Afraid not Joe. Suh is on a one year deal and he’s in the middle of one of the best run stuffing dline in the league.
October 26th, 2019 at 9:13 am
@Joe … “And if the Bucs lose, there shouldn’t be one player on a one-year contract on the roster next week.”
Let’s see, who’s on a 1-year contract at this point (UFAs only):
o Suh
o Winston
o Dotson
o Allen
o Perriman
o Barrett
o JPP
o Barber
o Gabbert
o D Stewart
o Nassib
o Minter
o Nunez-Roches
o Watford
o Wells
o Ryan Smith
o Adams
o Hawkins
Ya, that’s the ticket. Let’s get rid of 19 of our 53 players in the 2 days after tomorrow. That’ll solve everything.

Is Joe advocating trading or releasing Jameis if Bucs lose?
October 26th, 2019 at 9:30 am
Why fear a coach who doesn’t know the rules? Can’t call back to back timeouts Bruce even my Wife knew that
Why fear a coach who is awful managing the clock? Or is not 100% involved when he lets a offensive coordinator call plays who would be out of work u less Arians was employed…
Add Arians to list of failed coaches in Tampa
Educated smart fans knew this was a bad hire from the start
October 26th, 2019 at 9:55 am
Joe–have an early drink—we love some of our one year players–COME ON MAN!!!!!!!!!

Section 312
I’m still keeping the faith half way through the season but they hired the QB whisperer and he brought in 3-13 BL and said he was going to be calling most of the offensive plays. WTF?! I said.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:07 am
Joe is correct. It is like the Rays trading pending free agents at the July 31 MLB trade deadline. The Bucs would be fools to get nothing for those who will not resign with the team.
Thank you Joe. Well said.

they are not a afraid of the washed up old coot…. The feel sorry for the senile out of touch old guy… When bucs player look at BA and hear is nonstop BS all they see is Hillary Clinton yapping a mile a minute….
October 26th, 2019 at 10:13 am
Wait….I thought OJ stated that he has spoken to both BA & Licht…..

another classic example of low standard buc fan clinging to a meaningless ranking over what is best for the team… bucs will end up claiming another basement title but you keep clinging to those meaningless stats and rankings pal…. object to the game is to win. Unfortunately, the bucs will not do that consistently with incompetent owners, washed up coaches and a high school level roster…. the results are undeniable…
October 26th, 2019 at 10:16 am
If those lose to a mediocre Titans team they should have a fire sale monday. BA should take early retirement and JL should be fired.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:18 am
Well like I said yesterday we are top 5 in takeaways and we are bottom 5 in giveaways. As long as this remains the case I’m going to blame our $90 Million dollar offense for pissing games away before the half even starts.

October 26th, 2019 at 10:24 am
Same here. If Bucs are having a fire sale, just looking out for the future.
Love Barrett but starting to think he is a buy-low, sell-high type of player.

Would it really matter. sir… you could cut all 53/90 every damn year and end up with the same results so why the love for garbage… it truly makes no sense…. continuity crowd has no leg to stand on in the modern nfl with cap and free agency… old computer saying… garbage in garbage out perfectly describes bucs… they could fire everyone in that damn building and start over tomorrow and be in better shape…
October 26th, 2019 at 10:28 am
He sure is which is why, if the Bucs lose Sunday, Joe would trade him. Might get something good in return.
Joe’s a big believer in you either play for the playoffs or you play for the draft.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:32 am
@Defense
You can add TEs Hudson & Auclair to that list…..

October 26th, 2019 at 10:41 am
Joe wants to sell because he is short-sighted.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:43 am
Imagine if Rich McKay had sold after the first Dungy year. If he had gotten rid of Lynch, Sapp and Brooks…
…why would Arians make it more challenging to create a winner by getting rid of our best players? That makes zero sense.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:43 am
He may just run them over in his golf cart. The ole man acts like he is Bear Bryant when he is more like Ray Perkins.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:43 am
Players should also NEVER fear to approach the head coach.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:45 am
I wouldn’t resign any of those players on a one year deal ! Maybe Nassib they are all backups on most teams or to old
October 26th, 2019 at 10:48 am
Bonsai: Lynch, Sapp, and Brooks were not on one year contracts nor were they pending free agents.
There’s no guarantee that these pending free agents will even want to re-sign with the Bucs next year. Why would they want to play for a perennial loser?

hey genius this team has had 2 good years in 42 seasons and will make another basement title run this year… you sir are the fool who is giving free passes and believing in the glazers. the glazers have not fielded a competent team since sapp left so why do you believe this is the year it turns around???? come on genius back up that garbage with facts not feelings…. you wanting bucs to turn it around is one thing believing they are going to turn it around is pure insanity based on facts / data…. feelings are for losers…

what you really needed to say was imagine if Dungy the Clown and Mckay did not fail and were able to field a respectable offense…. instead those clowns built a one dimensional post season choke artist… nobody can waste the career of a hall of fame player like dungy the clown…
October 26th, 2019 at 11:06 am
If you can advocate for a fire sale if we lose, the what’s the problem with making Griffin the starting QB for the rest of the year?
Or are we still going with the “he’s yet to throw an NFL pass” excuse?
October 26th, 2019 at 11:24 am
I imagine all across the league….
Players “fear” being traded to the Bucs….
Not the other way around Joe.
🙂
October 26th, 2019 at 11:30 am
we trade for “a competent starter” at CB without addressing the DE/OLB position and that CB will become incompetent real soon….lol…
we shouldve grabbed taco chalton when he was available and michael bennett….
imagine a dline rotation with:
JPP/VV/SUH/SHAQ
gholston/allen/bennett/taco
we should go after vic beasley…falcons are sellers and they’ll have no problem letting him go to a division rival….he’ll be released at the end of the year anyways…
GO BUCS!!!!!
October 26th, 2019 at 11:34 am
I get the feeling OJ Howard will get traded, maybe for a defensive back.
October 26th, 2019 at 11:44 am
Since Joe thinks Jameis is America’s QB and the cats meow, maybe we should buy low and sell high on him. Just think, according to Joe’s love affair with everything Jameis, we should easily acquire a 1st round pick for him. Just think of the ammo we will have in the draft?
October 26th, 2019 at 11:48 am
If we traded all those one year contacts it might not fix the team, but it would certainly help the salary cap
October 26th, 2019 at 11:50 am
26 is scared.
October 26th, 2019 at 12:13 pm
Well facts would tell us two things: The Bucs are affraid of Backup QB’s and affraid they will break the all time NFL record for turnovers.
October 26th, 2019 at 12:14 pm
The only way they are scared to be traded is if they get traded to the Browns, Dolphins, Redskins or Cardinals… not that these teams are worse than the Bucs but no better either!
imagine going into each game with it in the back of your mind: is our qb going to give this game away; defense going to quit on us; Left going to call another terrible game; week after week, no hope of playoff and one day you get the news you are traded to Patriots or Saints or Chiefs or Packers….
to get sent from a 2-5 team to a 6-1 team… That’s a good Day!
October 26th, 2019 at 1:37 pm
So if they win Sunday shop for a corner cuz we making the playoffs? What’s the logic? If we lose sell all the good young players for draft picks to get more young players? Where’s the logic?
In a draft where there are some really good draft quarterbacks coming out you dont trade away draft capital for a corner after drafting 2. You dont sell veterans either which is basically tanking, how do you look players In the face and BA ain’t reying to rebuild he too old and doesnt really care about the future he cares about the now. Think like a coach who’s about to retire not like a general manager
October 26th, 2019 at 1:45 pm
TMax – do you mean facts, like your disparaging age remarks against our coach? Or the incessant negativity you spew at every moment of growth/improvement?
As always, I will grant you, being a Bucs fan isn’t easy.
What I am out of patience on with you is being a full out D!@k.
Go do something else.
I will give this coaching staff more than 6 games to evaluate. I’m in the camp of giving them (especially with where we started) at least 3 years to change the attitude, professionalism and yes, culture.
Continue living in your cesspool of negativity, claiming your football genius and striving so hard to be right It’s exhausting for us.

I’m fine with trading off anyone but Shaq. Our front office treats pass rushers like the plague and there is no guarantee that we would draft someone to replace him. I like Suh too, but he is clearly not the force be once was.
October 26th, 2019 at 2:24 pm
I’d love to find out who TMax is and buy him a drink . Can somebody help me meet him ?

He sure is which is why, if the Bucs lose Sunday, Joe would trade him. Might get something good in return.
Joe’s a big believer in you either play for the playoffs or you play for the draft.
We are not that far away to have to start over again next year just for a few spots up in the draft. Right now, we have a defense of line that we can build a good team around. We are only a couple of quarterbacks shy of having an elite defense. So, instead of having a fire sale. We should just continue to get better in this defense. But that is considering the hypothetical situation that we lose on Sunday. But I think we will win and I think the addition of JPP will help a lot
October 26th, 2019 at 2:58 pm
Team looks like a sinking ship that keeps duck taping the holes. Gotta commit that next year is a rebuilding year and address appropriately.
So trade any dead weight you can (even low-effort Evans), get a new GM, draft a new QB.
Need a clean break from anything still with a Lovie fingerprint on it, incl. Winston and Licht.
October 26th, 2019 at 2:58 pm
What the heck has “play for the draft” done besides contribute to our losing legacy? I hate that loser mentality. You play it out hard every week and wherever you come out in the draft, so be it. At least your team feels strong about their accomplishments at the end of the season, and gives a great message to would be free agents in the future. The Patriots are hardly ever in the top 16 in the draft, and miss on a lot of picks but yet they have a winning legacy.
Stop playing to be the worst.
October 26th, 2019 at 3:47 pm
Fear BA? Are you kidding me? Right now, he’s been more like BS for the offense. I guess he shouldn’t have been brought out of retirement cos the majority of offensive (as is STINKS) gameplans sure look semi-senile. BTW, tackle Hump and stop him, don’t kill him! It’s not his fault BA/BS let him go.
October 26th, 2019 at 3:48 pm

October 26th, 2019 at 5:21 pm
The first stat That is directly related to wins and loses in the NFL is turnovers. What has been the common denominator for the Bucs these last ten years? Freeman turnover machine and Winston as of last game just duplicated what Freeman did. Matter of fact I think as of right now they have the exact same TD to Turnover ratio. Very simple fact that really can’t be argued if you lose the turnover battle YOU LOSE THE GAME!
October 26th, 2019 at 6:48 pm
Ding, ding, ding….after he $hits the bed against Tennessee tomorrow we’ll finally be rid of JayMiss, one year deal and all.
