Peeved Panthers

September 13th, 2019

Upset.

Joe thought his readers would enjoy the scene in the Stinking Panthers locker room after the Bucs slammed the door on their division foes in their own crib.

The play of the game was Vernon Hargreaves reading a play like a book when the Stinking Panthers tried to run Christian McCaffrey out of a Wildcat formation with a direct snap to him as he ran left.

(Watch a replay of that from the behind-the-center angle and you see Hargreaves positioned himself perfectly.)

As McCaffrey, one of the best running backs in the NFL, took off to his left, Hargreaves was there to meet him and got him out of bounds as McCaffrey stretched best he could to get the ball over the 1-yard line, which would have given Carolina a first down.

It was close as could be but the tackle was just right and the Bucs took over on downs.

Apparently, per Ed Werder of BSPN, McCaffrey was disconsolate with himself thinking he lost the game.

There was so much to like about this game. But again, the replay of Hargreaves tackle showed that Hargreaves, just before the snap, set himself up perfectly to defend the play.

As Hargreaves said after the game, he thought the Stinking Panthers were going to run a Philly Special with McCaffrey coming in his zone to catch a pass.

Guess all that weight-lifting didn’t help him “son” Hargreaves. 🙈🙈😂😂😆😆
Good sign for the road stretch.

  2. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Now is official TAMPA BAY once again has a defense!

    Go Bucs!!!

  3. TiredBucFan Says:

Perriman is terrible. We must get rid of him. I know this has nothing to do with this article.

  4. Figures Says:

I’m super happy the Bucs one.
    Glad decent Jameis showed up.

I’m worried the offense may not be ran correctly. This offense should be elite.
    Should not be struggling.
Hopefully it gets better as the season goes on.

  5. Crack3rK Says:

Dittos on Perriman. He’s fast but he can’t catch. Now we see why Cleveland cut him.

  6. simsini Says:

If I were a Panthers fan, I would never have trusted Cam Newton again after he fumbled the ball in the Super Bowl and didn’t even try and recover it. We have our problems with Jameis, but they have it worse with Cam. He was absolutely terrible last night.

  7. Rodney Munch Says:

You gonna cry, you gonna squirt some, huh?

  8. gobuxfla Says:

VH3 showed up to play last night. Damned proud of our team showing up there as Panthers games have been a den of horrors for us. Tough road win and we can build on that!

  9. Buc4evr Says:

@tiredbucfan. If Perriman doesn’t improve then Bobo or Justin. Should have caught that pass in the end zone last night. No excuses.

  10. BigHog Says:

I want to say to the much maligned Hargreaves…last nite you balled out. I want to say you made the play with the breaking down of film by using your brain to put scheme and hustle together to make the play of the week, to those who have used words like slow, stupid, dumb, tonite’s performance said only one thing ” If you can ball you can ball”!! Continue to work, break down film, work hard in practice and stay healthy, we’re going to need you all year!!! BUCS WIN BUCS WIN BUCS WIN!!!

  11. Bob in Valrico Says:

Good defensive gameplan to take away a lot of the offense that McCaffrey gives the Panthers. Shaq Barrett was a beast. Glad to see Vh3 come up with that huge play. Carlton Davis has to work on eliminating PI and stupid personal foul penalties. Great goal line stand to save the game.

  12. Todd Says:

    ‪Sing with me, everyone…“Let’s PARTY like it’s 199…8!”‬

  13. Buccan8 Says:

VH3 has officially taken the lead over McCoy for Games Taken Over in Crunchtime…with 1.

  14. Pittsshore Says:

Yo can’t make this up Joe. Check our what is depicted on Shaq Barrett’s Wikipedia page. “He is the father of late NFL quarterback, Cam Newton, who died due to pressure in the pocket and being sacked 3 times.” Hilarious. He owns Cam!

  15. BucEmUp Says:

So this proves two things, after two games we gave seen that coaching is EVERYTHING! The defense looks really.good and prepared under Bowles, and the offense looks the worst it ever has as a whole under Leftwhich.

If Arians takes over play Calling and game.plan PREPARATION on offense this becomes.a.playoff team.over night, INSTANTLY!!!!!Leftwhich needs to go..

  16. BucEmUp Says:

They barely won a game they should have dominated with last years offense, the year befores offense and this current defense there on not many teams that could beat them.

This offense looks out of sync, slow, predictable. This is so maddening. We have everything needed to contend right now and despite knowing that Leftwhich stays in position. Jameis, the fans, the city, the entire team deserve better.

    Arians for play caller!!!!!!!

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

THE DEFENSE MADE A CRITICAL STOP IN CRUNCH-TIME!!!

Just let that statement marinate for a minute……………….

  18. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

    It’s ALIVE!

  19. Todd Says:

At least until Sunday, the Bucs lead the NFC South Division!!!

  20. ATrain Says:

By the way Bucs Defense stopped one of the top RB in the league without GMC

Bucs RB left GMC rolling on the Ground

Only thing positive from GMC was a penalty that gave us a 1st Down

I guess he got his wish Booed by Fans

Just not Bucs fans I LOVE HIM TODAY

  21. ITS ABOUT TIME !! Says:

dr jameis jekyll and mr hyde ….. i will savour the win

  22. Posey99 Says:

Shaq Barrett, Also known as the current leader in NFL SACKS?!?!

  23. ModHairKen Says:

I was vocal about poor playcalling for the first 6 quarters of this season, but maybe it was just poor execution. The running game in the 2nd half last night looked like the Alstott and Dunn era. Nice calls, Coach Leftwich.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The main problem with our offense is the poor calls or decisions on 3rd down….there were several plays like the long pass to Evans in the end zone on 3rd & 5 when we had wide open receivers short over the middle…..needed to move the chains.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

BBonzai: We won fair and square just like Dungy’s team as he started rebuilding it. It was the defense as you will recall. We have Gay now bur the ST needs some serious work.

  26. FortMyersDave Says:

Orlbucfan mentioned something that I have to point out. Happy with the win but if Gay could have hit that 42 yarder the game might not have been such a nailbiter. Carolina signs a guy off the street and he is automatic from 50 to 55 yards all ****ing night. Gay is an upgrade but was he not drafted to not miss clutch kicks like that which swing momentum???? Hopefully that is just a bump in the road to a great season for the kid and new Dad from Utah!

Again, love the spunk and the heart I saw last night after I heard a lot of people locally (err Todd Wright who compared the Bucs to Miami in one of his podcasts) and nationally just piling on the Bucs so hopefully the nay sayers will simply go away for awhile and perhaps pile on Carolina or maybe the Jets who lost Darnold to mononucleosis of all things. Joe: wins make for a bright morning as opposed to the doom and gloom of last Monday after the Bucs lost a winnable game…. Savor the moment!

  27. TOM Says:

All I can say it was a nice win but there was definitely wrong with Newton, besides Barrett & the rest of the Bucs defense. Our defense should keep us in games the whole season. Still not a fan of Leftwich but will wait & see.

  28. Rob Tanner Says:

OMG, WE ARE EATING W’S TODAY!
    YAASSSSSSS!

  29. 813bucboi Says:

    Was GMC crying?….lol…

Did we block him the way he knew we would?….lol…

Glad we got a win over that chump….

    GO BUCS

  30. destinjohnny Says:

VH3!!! I have rip that guy so hard since he was drafted.
Credit where credit is due. The guy is finally locked in and giving his all.
You couldn’t say that in the past

  31. firethecannons Says:

BigHog said it: in the words of VH3:if you can ball you can ball. VH3 can ball Baby!!

At least until Sunday, the Bucs lead the NFC South Division!!!

how do you come up with this rationale? NOLA is 1-0

  33. Go Bucs 72 Says:

I know it’s just 2 games but the with the way the D looks so far The Bucs should be trying to recoup Mike Smith’s salary.

  34. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    I kept expecting Jonathan Stewart

  35. TampaTown Says:

Looked like the whole defense read that last play perfectly. They went up the middle, left and right. Someone was on Cam in case he got the ball. Just great defense all around. Warms my heart. Guess someone else is getting paid next year too

  36. WVBuc Says:

The miss from Gay wasn’t really during a high stress point of the game. The kicks he made later were much more in crunch time…partly due to his earlier miss. The positive is it was one miss. The last few seasons have been miss stacked upon more misses. His XPs drill dead center…I’m not at all concerned with Gay at this point.

  37. Buccfan37 Says:

Play of the game because it won the game.

  38. Iamabuc Says:

Did you guys noticed, that after MacCoy tryed to get cute with Jensen and got bitchslapped (lol); that’s when the real whopping began!!…I loved every minute of it…🤣

  39. Buczilla Says:

Of all the teams in our division, I despise the Panthers the most since they broke Cadillac and Simms. This article warms my heart.
