If You Live By The Sword…
September 25th, 2019To boil it down, Daniel Jones outsmarted Todd Bowles.
In the mind of one well-respected NFL analyst, the Giants rookie quarterback one-upped the seasoned Bucs defensive coordinator on a key play that helped the Giants, without their Pro Bowl running back and leaning on the shoulders of a guy making his first NFL appearance, to beat the Bucs.
On the 75-yard touchdown pass to tight end Evan Engram, Andy Benoit of theMMQB.com goes to the tape and shows how Jones read a Bucs blitz perfectly, which enabled Engram to bust wide open. The only thing stopping Engram from scoring would have been a Jones misfire. He didn’t.
Look, Joe loves how much Bowles, the Bucs defensive coordinator, brings the heat. But as any NFL guy will tell you, if a team blitzes enough sooner or later they will get cooked. It just so happened Jones pulled out the skillet just in the nick of time. And the Bucs got burned. Badly.
Bowles, and the Bucs, died by the sword Sunday.

That’s the nature of this defense. We’ll beat you up with blitzes from every angle… but there’s going to be times where we get torched.

Its funny that Carlton Davis is lined up more than 10 yards back and yet silence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GMen adjusted in the second half. They noticed we weren’t keeping a spy on Jones and took advantage. Had we also adjusted in the second half, and kept a spy on Jones, I don’t think he scores.

That’s a bad missed tackle by the S more so than some wide open busted coverage. Can’t have those.

I’ll take Bowles any day. If we had a real kicker and a Brateworst wasn’t such a wuss we wouldn’t be having this conversation

813- It took only 3 games to show how inept Smitty was!
Yeah, we got toasted. But, you can’t tell me this defense doesn’t look better.

I think people tend to forget how young our secondary is an they are going to have plenty more of growing pains. Chill out Tampa our defense is night an day better than last few years s h I t show we called for a defense. The only thing we can ask for is that they learn from their mistakes. Even the tom Brady’s of the league take time to develop

#1buc… agree with the young DBs… they are hitting and swarming… they will only get better with time!

It is just so Bucs to have a rookie QB in his first-ever start become NFC Offensive Player of the Week. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! This team sucks.

It’s ok to blitz if you get there. If you are not getting there then why blitz and leave the back end exposed? I posted in the second quarter on the game thread ‘less pressure more coverage please’. Jesus even I could tell they weren’t getting there with blitzing. Why not rush 3 and drop 8 once in a while? You have to change it up and Todd Bowles did not. He stuck to his script and got waxed by a guy making his first NFL start. TB should be embarrassed because I sure would be. It was like watching someone just pound his head against a tree then figuring the tree will fall eventually. Four 75+ yard drives given up is just ridiculous.

I agree with all the angst over our D’s performance.
But if we are honest we need to show some respect to Jones who played as well at QB as anybody I’ve seen…not just rookies.
He was terrific. However he was also incredibly fortunate with some of those plays. One was the catch by the guy with one hand stretched back over his head awkwardly but still brought in an inaccurate pass. Most of the Giants played out their arse…not just Jones…Shepard? Really? When I saw Jones making the miracle throws and the way things were bouncing…midway through the third I told my wife..”here we go again.”

Better to blitz/be aggressive and get burned sometimes – than play soft as Charmin zone the majority of the time and get burned even worse….
