Bucs Assured Of First Place Tie Through Week 2

September 15th, 2019

Will general manager Jason Licht jump in his pool?

Will Bucco Bruce Arians drink more whiskey than he did on Thursday night?

Yes, celebration is in order Bucs fans. Joe is fired up. In fact, Joe is heading right now to Abe’s Place for a dinner feast of the freshest food around.

Our Buccaneers are 1-1 and so are the Saints after they were beaten down by the Rams today in Los Angeles. The Saints also lost Drew Brees with a hand injury and Teddy Bridgewater looked like Mike Glennon in his place.

With the Panthers at 0-2 under shell-of-himself Cam Newton, and the winless Falcons at home tonight against the Eagles, the Bucs are assured of being in first place after two weeks of the 2019 NFL season. The Bucs also are the only NFC South team with a division victory.

Only 14 weeks to go!

Yeah, there’s a long road ahead, but when you’re a Bucs fan, you have to celebrate whenever you can.

Roll the weaksauce Giants next Sunday and the excitement absolutely kicks up a couple of notches.

    Super Bowl Champs clearly!

Lol knew this article was coming shortly… 😜

  3. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

    Things are falling into place…

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Win in the division gives us the edge……keep it going.

  5. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

The Saints look very beatable. Saints got screwed by the refs again vs Rams.

The 49ers looked very awesome today. I think they scored 49 against the Bengirls.

    Breida got 121 yards rushing.

Could it be that the Bucs actually have a great defense?

    1st place!! Wahooo!

  6. Colonel Angus Says:

The Giants game should tell us if we are heading in right direction. That’s the kind of game we usually crap the bed in over this lost decade. Coming off a big division road win in prime time, feeling good, have a bad team coming in to town…and we usually end up doing the walk of shame leaving the DoD. We shall see.

  7. Hodad Says:

Sometimes it comes down to survival of the fittest. The Saints are in trouble if Brees has a serious injury. Carolina looks horrible , Cam has lost it, and we’ll see if Atl can rebound from a bad week one. So yeah Joe is right, we’re in it. Notice the 49ers rolled on Cinn, but couldn’t score on us? No TD’s for Carolina either. Anyone still want Fitz back? Less then 89 yards passing, no TD’s, and three picks. The magic is gone. Adam Humphries who? Did not show on the stat sheet this week. We all saw how good GMC looked Thursday night. Anyone crying now all three are gone?

  8. Ben real Says:

You guys relax man … we’re in first place … I’ve seen this time and again … the Bucs always find a way to f s$&t up … let’s not take New York lightly … we also have the rams after that .. @saints , a trip to London , @ titans @ Seattle … we will see what the Bucs are made of after these games

  9. Tye Says:

the Bucs don’t have a chance in the NFCS unless something drastic happens..

    WELL,
Cam’s play is rapidly deteriorating and now Brees may be out a few weeks (Bridgewater seems to be a major downgrade to Brees)…
Falcons are undetermined but its now possible that the Bucs get out of ‘Bucs Cove’ at the least…
I dare even say if they had a legit qb they could have a much better shot at the NFCS championship… not going to win it at a 4-12 record at the end!

Never want to see or celebrate any injury… Its just the current reality…

  10. mark2001 Says:

Nice surprise… And I expect the O to get better and better. Keep it all moving forward, Bruce.

  11. Ben real Says:

Brees will be back he only has a thumb injury … y’all act like this division is all wrapped up for the Bucs … it’s only week 2 … calm down

  12. JimmyJack Says:

We need 2 things…..A Falcons loss tonight and a win at home for us.

If that happens we guaranteed a shot to play in New Orleans for sole possession of 1st place.

    Go Bucs baybee.

  13. Ben real Says:

Lol y’all saying we need this team to lose this team to win like this is week 15 lmao … chill out … this is still a team that has won 10 games in 2 years … like this team is a Cinderella team … we are 1-1 … with a long road trip starting week 4 relax

  14. Rodney Munch Says:

Week 3 and we’re not talking about the 1st pick of the draft… what a time to be alive!

  15. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

    Eagles fan tonight!

  16. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“So your telling my Dad and I there’s a chance?”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Hahaha Ben real……….You are right but stop raining on our parade.

    Buccaneers 1-1
    Saints 1-1
    Falcons 0-1
    Gerald’s team 0-2

Dam it feels good to type that.

  18. Anonymous Says:

They’d have sole possession if Winston didn’t blow the game last week. Loser.

  19. Anonymous Says:

They’d have sole possession if Winston didn’t blow the game last week. In fact, last they DID have sole possession, because Winston was suspended. Happy days ahead when he’s gone full time.

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

This time last year we were 2-0 in first place and Fitz was wearing another mans clothes…

  21. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Don’t think I will be able to watch it, though. I don’t want to cheer for Mesean.

  22. Jean Lafitte Says:

Being in first is a rare moment indeed, enjoy while we can.

Remember the Giants are no push overs, especially now at 0 – 2

Last season we tried to rally late, and came up short with a 38 – 35 loss.

  23. Aceofaerospace Says:

Weren’t we in first place last year after 2 weeks?

  24. celly Says:

Technically, while we would be tied, we’d be in first, due to the fact that we have the best division record (the first tie breaker)

  25. Buc_U Says:

Hey Jackwipes, let people have their optimism. You had your week last game. This week we won and now we are in first place in the division. Last week we thought this team may be a bust, but they showed up this week and got themselves a division win. Apparently the 49ers were better than we thought and we had them beat if it wasn’t for the turnovers. Nobody is saying we are going to the Super Bowl but our chances to go to the playoffs are much better today. So turn off your Nega-Buc and be happy for once.

  26. Tye Says:

LoL.. The life of a Bucs fan… Where you have to root for all the other teams in the division to falter and be brought down to the Bucs level of losing so the Bucs hopefully will not finish last in the division…

  27. Rayjay1122 Says:

Tye, every fan of every team in The NFL wants the divisional teams to lose. Quit being a tool!

  28. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

A great win Thursday night in a game the Bucs lost so many times in the past. Let the irrational exuberance begin…why not?!

  29. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

It’s funny even though we were 2-0 last year and 1-1 this year I feel way better with this team due to the fact of how well our defense is playing. I knew with how many points we were giving up in those games we would not have been able to sustain that. This type of defense however with a steady offense is very doable and leave me very optimistic for our future. Go Bucs!

  30. NOSBOS Says:

fowlcons, aints and rams all fools gold because they allowed their hammers Colman,Anderson and Igram to walk. Neither the rams or the aints were all that effective redzone 5 yards and in or short yardage. That’s why we set up beautifully, some here don’t appreciate Barber but ain’t too many people a.k that anxious to tackle Peyton in the 4th qtr because of all the head butting he does thru out the game. 2014 hawks 525 rush attempts that championship season. #Run The dam Football.

  31. cmurda Says:

Because of divisional tiebreaker, we will be in first place regardless of the outcome tonight. We obviously want ATL to lose and they will. Things get interesting with the Aints with Brees right hand injury. It’s likely a multi-week injury. Right now, J Dub needs to elevate his game because the NFC South bounty is there for the pillage.

  32. BridleOaksBuc Says:

    YeeHaw!!!

  33. Rick Says:

Kinda shocked how little the saints trust bridgewater. They are in trouble after Brees retires.

  34. WestChap Says:

The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!

  35. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

    “Betting line vs NY Giants

    Tampa Bay -6.5”

    Son of Kobe Faker

  36. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

1-1 never felt so good after the Brees injury. Sorry to see Drew get hurt, but I bet it’s going to be significant. No way it’s a break. It’s gonna be ligaments and it’s gonna linger. Kitty’s suck and Atlanta isn’t gonna be that good, though they are playing Philly tough for the moment. We may actually have a chance if we can have “good” Jay Miss most of the time.

  37. TonyC Says:

I’m not reading too much into the play of the other teams. Bucs have a legitimate chance of beating the Giants next week. If they stop Barkley and the TE Engram they’ll be fine. They’re wideouts are statistically poor.

  38. TonyC Says:

    “Their wideouts”

  39. NOSBOS Says:

All these spread pass heavy offense are sus in the redzone once everything condenses.

  40. rrsrq Says:

This first place kinda feels different, why we got coaches and a defense. But, Saints still have a defense, give Sean Peyton a week to have a game plan with Teddy, eventually Brees will be back.
Watching the Falcons v. Eagles, Matty I e just missed two deep balls to receivers that had their DBs beat, Matty is terrible throwing the deep ball (sarcasm). Carson Wentz has throw two picks, he’s terrible (more sarcasm).

  41. firethecannons Says:

Wentz just threw a near pick which would be #3–Eagles sux big time–at this rate Koetter is going to win with his Falcons

  42. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs have had so little to celebrate for so long that 1-1 to start the season has created a euphoria among Bucs’ fans. I just hope that the players don’t buy into any of that. Great coaches preach ONE GAME AT A TIME, and of course IT’S NOT OVER TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS.

Last season we started out 2-0 and expectations skyrocketed. Then the balloon bust a little against the Eagles and the bottom fell out against the Bears. If the Bucs take the Giants for granted, we’ll get buried. They put up over 150 yards rushing and over 300 yards passing in their first game loss against a pretty stout Dallas defense. They put up another 130 yards rushing and 250 yards passing against a very good Buffalo defense in their second loss today. Take nothing for granted. Next Sunday is a game the Bucs NEED to win to set the table for the following 2 games against the Rams & Saints.

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Colonel Angus

    You’re right.

    Mark2001
Doesn’t the offense feel vanilla..almost boring right now.

  44. DBS Says:

The offense feels normal. Sloooow start. If not for the defense they woul be the normal points down and trying to catch up.

  45. MadMax Says:

Yeah, enjoy, but tap those brakes just a little…lets not jinx anything….been here before only to be let down.

  46. Ndog Says:

Isn’t interesting that neither Wentz or Ryan have a running game tonight and been hit a lot and they have both thrown two picks tonight. Weird right who would have thunk it?

  47. Adrnagy Says:

If Wentz got a contract extension playing like today Jameis should too. Oh but it’s wentz…

  48. Rod Munch Says:

Matt Ryan has 4 INTs in the first 7 quarters of the season.

Maybe Dirk’s 1970s Air Coryell offense has something to do with that.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, what a jinx, make that 5 INTs, literally happened as I hit enter.

  50. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Ghost thats what i was looking at either or defense is legit or bengals defense just really sucks

  51. Ndog Says:

Make that 3 picks for Ryan and none of those were mistakes by his intended receivers, they were all bad throws. So let’s see if he is roasted like a certain QB from Tampa does.

  52. Cgmaster27 Says:

That Dork koetter offense on full effect in atlanta. Both qbs look like crap.

  53. Rod Munch Says:

Ndog – He won’t, but I will say that throw out of the endzone, Jones needs to get his head around and at least look for the ball. It wasn’t a good throw, but Jones not even turning his head around is on him. I don’t think he could get back to the ball, but the receiver needs to read the blitz and look for the hot route.

But again, that’s 5 INTs in 7 quarters.

I wonder if people are going to be saying his career is one more bad game away from being over.

  54. TampaTown Says:

Joe you must have a few cold ones. Aren’t you always the voice of gloom and doom trying to make us all feel terrible? I think we’re technically in first place because of a division win but let’s keep our wits about us and beat a team we’re supposed to beat the NY Giants.

  55. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s good news. I’m glad the Saints lost but hate it for Drew Brees. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Brees has had a long run of health. Just hope it doesn’t end his career and I want to beat the Saints when Brees is on the field. Get well soon so we can kick your buttocks.

  56. BigMacAttack Says:

Watching all teams in the NFC South for 2 games, the Bucs stack up well if Jameis stays on his game and protects the ball.

  57. BigMacAttack Says:

I hope the Eggles win tonight but they’re a train wreck. Koetter still sucks

  58. Buc4evr Says:

If our O-line can continue to improve, I like our chances to have a decent season. Sure would like to get JPP back against the Falcons.

  59. Tbbucs3 Says:

Falcons just scored. It would be awesome if Carolina and Atlanta start 0-2. Cmon Wentz.

  60. Tbbucs3 Says:

One thing about Koetter you cannot argue…..his screens are deadly. Worked everytime with Simms and Hump.

  61. Rod Munch Says:

If that was the Bucs, it’s called a block in the back and the TD is taken off the board.

  62. Ndog Says:

Yes sir Rod yes sir, Everytime.

  63. Rod Munch Says:

    Wow, Agholor pulls a Perriman.

  64. Rod Munch Says:

Agholor dropped that pass on the sideline, surely would have been a TD, what a douche.

  65. Tbbucs3 Says:

No excuse not to beat the Falcons this year. If we dont its the same ole stuff. Its one thing to beat a broken Cam Newton. Falcons are the real test and maybe we’ll steal one from the Saints.

  66. Ndog Says:

But but but I thought it was impossible to win if your QB throws 3 picks. You mean your teammates can pick you up? Is that possible? No it can’t be.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

    Winston, 7 starts versus Atlanta…
    1985 yards, 20 TDs, 5 INTs, 112.7 QB rating, 123 yards rushing, 2 TDs…

    Only 3-4.

Give the man a defense and we should clean up against the Falcons.

Winston is also 3-4 versus the Saints and 4-4 versus the Panthers – not bad considering he’s had the worst defense in football since 2015.

  68. Ndog Says:

Rod you know none of that matters he’s supposed to win no matter what. He sucks bro and that’s not debatable cause he doesnt win regardless of no running game, no defense and no kicker. Those are all excuses cause as we all know football is a one man sport.

  69. Ndog Says:

Heck we won Thursday despite him being on the field. Cause as you have read here for days he had nothing to do with that game.

  70. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah, sorry about that, I forgot that we’re only allowed to blame Winston if we lose. It’s all on him – and it also doesn’t matter if a receiver runs the wrong route, drops a TD pass, a RB fumbles, it’s all, 100%, Winston’s fault.

As for Wentz tonight, he was let down by Agholor and injuries hurt him, as did his defense giving up a huge play – plus his offensive line was garbage. No reasonable person would say he’s awful and the loss is on him, but Winston, he’s different, so we need to blame him even for the Eagles losing.

  71. Losinghope Says:

Raise ur standards buc fans. DO NOT be excited by this meaningless crap

  72. mark2001 Says:

Jmark…two things. Brate did say that guys were still learning the O when asked about why some were having difficulties. Watch the Bucs.ciom interview after the game. And there was talk that all the offense hadn’t been implemented yet because the guys were still learning it/ digesting it. Vanilla Offense? As the players have said many times, when they really know it, and can play full speed in all aspects, I expect it to become more dynamic. But as long as we can win with where we are, all I can say is great…keep moving forward.

    2001

Gotcha, it just seems pretty bland at the moment and I thought BA was imaginative offense genius, etc. etc. and maybe he is. Just looks to me like a pre season offense, not a lot of variety or interesting plays..

I’m happy to win with 1999 Buc Ball or whatever it takes, as long as we win.

  75. mark2001 Says:

Jmark…I think Arians and Andy Reid are very much the same kind of coaches…same generation and such. I don’t see an “offensive genius. more like old grinders that have learned a ton during all their years of coaching, that have a perspective about the game many of the “flavor of the week” guys don’t have. I think Arians does have a little more imaginative spark than Reid.. but both believe in fundamentals first. I think when our guys pick up the system, and they can react and think about getting open, rather than running their part of the play correctly, we will be better offensively.
