Bigger Judgment Day For Alex Cappa

September 27th, 2019

Thank you Alex Cappa for ending the right guard condition known as the Benenoch Blues.

Joe believes Cappa is not getting enough love from Bucs fans. The dude was a late-third-round pick last year from Humboldt State (can you imagine the marijuana flowing on that campus?) and barely got to play at his position. He wasn’t horrible when he would spell Benenoch for a series or two, but Bucs coaches preferred young veteran Caleb Benenoch, who was brutal and is now a member of the Belicheats.

This summer, Cappa was solid squaring up against Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea, but he put fear in the hearts of Bucs fans after his preseason performance against Cleveland. In just the first half of that game, he looked like the combined worst of Benenoch and retired Bucs right tackle Gosder Cherilus, who was nicknamed Swingin’ Saloon Doors late in his career.

Through three regular season games, Cappa definitely has redeemed himself. And now he gets to test his skills and strength against beastly Aaron Donald of the Rams and the rest of the talented and well-paid Los Angeles front.

Yes, Joe expects the Rams to come after Cappa repeatedly and in various ways.

Will Cappa be up for it? Joe can’t say. But if he holds up, then a lot of Bucs fans will owe the guy an apology.

    Let the big dawg eat!
    Bucs Win! Bucs Win!

  2. Posey99 Says:

If he shuts down Aaron Donald, I’ll buy his Jersey. Not likely.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

Less worried about Cappa then the guy next to him in the #69 jersey.

  4. Youngbucs Says:

For the luv of god can Winston hit someone
    In stride this week ??????????

  5. Hodad Says:

He’s not going to should down Donald, but no one is. I’ve given Cappa a lot of sh#it in the past, but will admit, he’s held his own so far this season. The game will come down to Jameis, and Goff. What QB makes the most plays, and the least mistakes. Let’s face it, that’s what it always comes down to. That’s why QB’s are the highest paid players on a team, and not FG kickers. We can stop Gurley, like we stopped Barkley, but it won’t matter if Jameis throws picks, and Goff throws TD’s. The next 5 games will determine if we have a winning franchise QB or not.

  6. K2 Says:

Youngbucs, I’m happy if Winston throws the ball to guys wearing our jersey…one step at a time!

  7. Easy Says:

Cappa has been solid so far this season. Hes gonna be in for a big test though with man beast Aaron Donald.

  8. buc15 Says:

same here Dewey. Hopefully he doesn’t have his traditional 1-2 penalties at key times this week.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Humboldt State (can you imagine the marijuana flowing on that campus?)

There is a Netflix documentary series called “Murder Mountain”…..it is all about Humbolt County, the Marijuana Capital of the World……great series…..

    All sorts of missing persons….etc.

As far as Cappa…..how can you not root for a guy like this?……go Alex, GO!!!

  10. DB55 Says:

Delusional at best. Donald will have a field day against this line. Look for him to line up at DE against Dotson and completely destroy the right side of the oline.

    RUN JAMEIS RUN

  11. WyldKat Says:

The bar was low, but he has surpassed it. HooYaY.

  12. Patrickbucs Says:

The only line I recall containing Donald was the Pats in the Super Bowl. Despite that, some teams still have found a way to beat them here and here even without great lines. How many teams actually have great offensive lines? Not many that I’ve seen. The Skins and Titans probably among the worse with suspensions and holdouts.

Run the ball effectively and will slow them up just a bit hopefully. They don’t have a great line either.

  13. Pewter power Says:

No one is going to judge a second year player first year starter going up against the best interior lineman in all of football since the day he came into the league, just another exaggeration basically. He’s not getting credit for playing better than Dotson who is the weak link and looks like hot garbage this year

  14. Buc believer Says:

Cappa is going to get schooled!

  15. Bucnjim Says:

When your two veteran tackles can’t even stay onside’s on simple play calls pressure is coming from the outside. Cappa has at least cleared some nice blocks in the running game. Must be nap time for Bucs tackles when they here the whistle blow.

  16. Clw JB Says:

He is definitely an asset in the run game and with VV & ROJO it’s suddenly making last years draft look pretty solid when considering Whitehead too

Cappa needs to work on the pass blocking quite a bit still, but the inside three are clicking in the power run game

  17. Bucnjim Says:

How about getting two Blue Collar Tackles that when they hear that whistle it’s time to go to work.

  18. SB Says:

If you are a true, long time Bucs fan you will notice that this is Just they type of game we traditionally win.
    GO BUCS!

  19. Isaac haggins Says:

The game will come down to who gets hit more Winston or Goff …….. chances are Winston takes 4 more hits than Goff and Brady gets hit less than 3 times !!!

  20. Isaac haggins Says:

Bucs are third worst and one hit away from second !! You just are NOT going to win !!! They would be ahead of Miami if it wasn’t for the run game !!! Miami is avg like 3 yards a carry !!!! Again if you don’t fix this you can’t fix the Int s ,,,,,,people you are BLIND !!! If Arians doesn’t get his head out of his arsss on this qb protection !!!!

  21. Ryanbucfan Says:

I’m more worried about Hargreaves getting torched by cooks. Once Dean is healthy, we may have to start giving him a shot. I just don’t know if Hargreaves can hold up outside against the faster receivers. At least Dean has the size and speed to be in better position. We shall see. Go Bucs!!

  22. Adrnagy Says:

Just received cappa jersey. I’m wearing it Sunday to the game.

  23. D1 Says:

    Isaac,

There’s a trade off for more protection. Arians has started with the idea that a QB can quickly find open recievers, throw the ball, avoid the hit. If he pulls back to add protection the time in the pocket increases. Which means. ….yep..

The fix isn’t a coaching fix it’s a winston fix. He’s able to flip the script without coaches changing this or that. You know, sometimes..just sometimes, the responsibility for Jameis is jameis. Simple. He can control this process not rely on lefty.

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

“it won’t matter if Jameis throws picks, and Goff throws TD’s.”

True dat Hodad. Can I add another factor….it won’t matter if BA goes all turtle and takes 3 instead of 7 or at least six with our kicker when we’re inside the 20 with less than 4th and 3. Free JW and our WR’s and TE’s and oh btw…if JW rolls and occasionally runs…great. He throws best on the run anyway.

As much as I’ve criticized his sometimes deer in the headlight look when he’s inside a collapsing pocket…he has a genuine talent for keeping his eyes downfield when he runs out of the pocket. Besides DB55 swears he’ll end up in Cedars Sinai in LA if he stays in our pocket.

  25. #1bucsfan Says:

This will be a good test for him. If he turns out to be like Marpet then let Jason only get lineman an hand the other duties to someone more qualified

  26. adam from ny Says:

don’t sleep on cappa…he’s turning into a mean mofo 🙂

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t remember Donald being that highly regarded coming out of Pitt. Go Cappa Go.

  28. Buc believer Says:

WAY WAY WAY off topic but congrats Rays!! Bucs take notice we are SO ready to have you guys win!! PLEASE WIN!!!

  29. Touchdown, Tampa Bay Says:

TouchDown TampaBay stole my name! I’m the original he’s a cheap rusty copy! I am Touchdown, Tampa Bay. This dude knew that and stole my name despite a few subtle differences. He’s a phony. And I’m taking him to court every day on this website!

  30. BA FAN Says:

If Dotson can’t handle the Rams just insert our former swing OT for the Steelers and see what he can do. Then Dotson can be our Swing OT.

  31. Jmon300@gmail.com Says:

    Any given Sunday…

  32. Buczilla Says:

Donald is too much for any guard in pass protection, but maybe we can slam Ronald Jones into him 30 times in this game? I’ve read that he is banged up, and I think limiting Jameis’s opportunities to make a boneheaded play is a good thing. 😊
