Bears’ Trash Gives Bucs Hope
September 6th, 2019Yes, Joe is geeked football is back. Joe inhaled a lot of college football last week and popped open a few beers Thursday night to celebrate the return of the NFL.
Finally, real games. And even though last night’s 10-3, 1919 throwback game between the Packers and the Bears was at times tedious, it was real football. None of this preseason feces between guys you will never see again outside of someone running a Target customer service desk.
But also, last night’s win by the Packers showed the Bucs only need marginal improvement from the Bucs to compete.
Last year, disgraced former defensive coordinator Mike Smith made Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky look like Aaron Rodgers in his prime as Trubisky lit up the Bucs defense with six touchdowns — SIX!
Last night the Packers defense, just so-so, made Trubisky look like Mike Glennon who could run. Trubisky was awful and only Mike Smith can make him look remotely decent. So if the Bucs can just improve their defense to average, just average, just good enough to make the Trubiskys of the world look mortal, the Bucs at least shouldn’t be the total embarrassment they were last year.
Just think, Bears general manager Ryan Pace, who has otherwise done a fine job building a team, traded up in the first round in 2017 to draft Trubisky over Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.
How would you like to have that hanging around your neck for the rest of your life? It is a wonder George Halas hasn’t risen from the dead and kicked him in the shins.

Good ole Mike Smith helped put Mitch in the Pro Bowl last season.

You’ve just perfectly described the last 17 years of Buccaneer football….. people in glass houses should not throw rocks especially hypocrite dungy the clown nuthuggers…. virtually every damn game dungy the one dimensional clown coached was that exact style of planned parenthood ball that was on display tonight yet low standard bucfan calls those glory years while trashing other teams that play the same… the irony

Week 1 of the NFL season is Week 5 of the Preseason
September 6th, 2019 at 1:53 am
wow Rod your comment really got tmax cranked up
Tmax you sound like a long suffering Buc fan who can’t let it go and relives it daily on Joes web site.
September 6th, 2019 at 2:35 am
Honestly feel sorry for the Bears, the one thing holding them back from being a contender is Trubisky and the poor fools don’t even have a 1st next year in a loaded QB draft class to rectify the situation. They will never win a title with him under center.
September 6th, 2019 at 2:51 am
Hate to break it to anyone but Wonderboy Rodgers didn’t exactly light it up either. Matter-o-fact Trubisky had more passing yards than Rodgers. Sound familiar?
The difference: turnovers and penalties.
September 6th, 2019 at 4:17 am
Ah, yes, mediocrity. Just what we want to watch.

“The polish Mariota
Good defenses always beat and expose these athletes who cant throw downfield
Chicago is ready to win but cant because good defenses in the playoffs always beats these checkdown gadget Charlies”

Joe, how many qbs have had career games vs the Bucs D in the past few years????? Scrubs like Mitch last night, Mariota, backups in St Louis and Minnesota, Carolina the current Vikes qb,.etc….. Most of these debacles are on that sieve Mike Smith who simply mailed it in but also on Lovey who is probably gonna lead his losing Illini to U Conn this week…… Anyhow I hope you are right and the Bucs do not let Garrapolo look like Dan Fouts or Kurt Warner…. Man the Bears looked pathetic. Granted its only one game but if the Bucs did that our local critics would be all in on a 2 dash 14 campaign….
September 6th, 2019 at 5:31 am
The critics are all in on 2-14 …. can’t compare the Bucs defense to the bears defense lol … like I said prove me wrong sunday
September 6th, 2019 at 5:35 am
Buccaroo
No one will light it up against the bears defense . Did you watch the whole game? And Did you watch the bears last year? I would be surprised if they give up to many points a game. They are stacked at all levels. Their defense could have you as their starting QB and still win.
This may be the best defense since ravens last dynasty with Ray Lewis.
You can Dog Rodgers all you want. …packers now have a defense and d coordinator. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if packers don’t go far in playoffs for NFC .
September 6th, 2019 at 6:00 am
Ben,are you meaning last year’s Bucs defense??? But if you are talking about right now then you’re sadly mistaken. We’ll be at minimum as good as the bears defense. Easy. See for yourself come Sunday. The bears were a decent defense prior to adding Mack and drafting Rohan in the 1st. Similar to us adding Kong Suh and drafting Devin in the 1st. Last year’s Bucs D has no “bearing” on 2019. I mean soft @$$ 93 ain’t even a member any longer.
September 6th, 2019 at 6:05 am
I disagree Bird. It’s a team game and if that offense of theirs continue to puke on itself week to week that defense won’t be motivated to be anything near what that Ravens D was. I was watching and felt like if Lefluer simply ran the ball more in the second half like he said he should have at half time that game could have been over before it actually was.
September 6th, 2019 at 6:07 am
Been saying for a loooooong frieking time if Jameis has an average defense , a head coach that doesnt call the same 8 plays the entire game and a half way decent kicker hes a playoff qb.
Most fans can figure this out…..MOST!
September 6th, 2019 at 6:14 am
Also let me add,Kyle Fuller cb that tied the league in ints for the bears last season with 7. 6’0 194lbs 4.49 40. Similar to VH3 5’11 204 lbs 4.50 40. It’s amazing how one can look all world by simply being utilized properly and the other made to look like a scrub being utilized improperly. Thank The Gods for BA and his coaching staff. Nothing extra special about the bearsD. We have basically the same talent on our D now.
September 6th, 2019 at 6:26 am
After doing a quick research, VH3 was better than Kyle Fuller at basically everything accept the 40 at the combine. Fuller a 10th of a second faster. Again fuller tied the league high in ints with 7 last season. Don’t be shocked at VH3 snatching around that many tha season.
September 6th, 2019 at 6:48 am
I’ve seen a few national articles praising the Packers defense. They did decent but it was really Trubisky being off more than the Pack defense being great.
I can’t believe Mike Smith couldn’t stop that kid. He was very inaccurate. He had little vision downfield. He’s okay if he can play small ball for four quarters but if you force him to go through his progressions on third and long he can be exposed.
Again, Mike Smith might as well as gave the kid a hand written invitation to the pro bowl.
September 6th, 2019 at 7:18 am
My favorite part of the game was the fact (rumor has it I started drinking my friend Tito’s very early) that I fell asleep mid-second quarter. Thus, the game was as exciting as my dreams allowed it to be! And those Bucs cheerleaders cheering naked…what an UPGRADE to the overall experience!
September 6th, 2019 at 7:40 am
Uh Ben, whose comparing the Bucs D to the Bears D????? You’re a bit confused so let me simplify my post… What I simply said was the Bear’s QB Mitch Mariota is just one of many QBs Mike Smith somehow made into Johnny Unitas for one afternoon (unless they got to play Smitty’s Bucs’ D more than once). When I was talking about the local critics and 2 dash 14 I was pondering about what if the Bucs’ O put up 3 points like the Bears did against a mediocre D (like San Fran for instance), kind of like what Fitz did last year vs the dead skins except da Bears did not get 500+ yards….. I think we can all agree that the Bucs D was horrendous bro…. And BTW, as a Buc fan I hope you are wrong if you are one of those who loaded up early on the niners like most of the local “critics”…..
LargoBuc, yeah da Bears look to be a flash in the pan, kind of like the Bucs in 2016 except they did manage to make the playoffs only to have a kicker/leaky line cost them their one playoff game. One loss does not make a season but man I’d love to hear the fans vent on Chi-town sports radio….
September 6th, 2019 at 7:40 am
Trashbustsky, is not a good qb. Chicago will waste an elite defense because, the qb isn’t very good.
How the hell did LaFleur get a hc position? Guy has never coordinated a great offense
September 6th, 2019 at 7:47 am
I fail to see how a Packers 10-3 defeat of the Bears has any bearing at all about the Bucs 2019 season……but, I do agree that even an average defense for us should improve our record greatly.
September 6th, 2019 at 7:59 am
All of you Jameis haters should watch that game one more time. For years and years the Bucs had trash like Tribisky at QB. Run off Jameis and you night get another decade of that type of garbage at QB. It was painful to watch him miss everyone and made me really appreciate that we have a good QB in Tampa. He nay not be a HOFer at this point, but he is 10x better than scrubs like Trubisky.
September 6th, 2019 at 8:04 am
6 TDs is what happens when you rush 4, never blitz and play zone the whole damn game.
Never happen again in Tampa hopefully.
If we can rush for 90 yards in 2 days, Bucs win easy.
September 6th, 2019 at 8:08 am
My take away from that game was that after scraping out a road victory on the 1st Thursday night game, the Packers get 5 consecutive home games.
Who makes these schedules any way?
September 6th, 2019 at 8:08 am
Winston is 6-0 when the def gives up 11 points or less.
Thanks Rod Munch
September 6th, 2019 at 8:10 am
There were more than a few shades of the Dilfer-led Buccaneers (circa 1997-99) in those Bears last night. Ferocious D. Atrocious O.
September 6th, 2019 at 8:14 am
I wrote you on Twitter last night expressing the same sentiments. Mitch Trubisky is not as bad as Rex Grossman but I genuinely believe he will hold the team back to winning a Super Bowl. If you take away the inflated stats he earned in that game against the Bucs and averaged it out he would have had less than 20 TDs and under 3000 yards passing. For a guy given the keys to the kingdom I’m not certain if he’s better than Glennon. He did nothing last night to make me think he’s taken that next step.
September 6th, 2019 at 8:21 am
Too many!
September 6th, 2019 at 8:40 am
I can only imagine the comments if Jameis were to play as pitifully as Trubisky on Sunday.
Additionally, the speed the packers showed on defense is what Arians is after here. Also, you note the pack kept trying to run the ball even when picking up little yardage. Stayed patient and played field position. Reminded me of old buc ball.
September 6th, 2019 at 9:02 am
The Bears were 12 -4 last year. Let me know when the Bucs get that far with Winston.
September 6th, 2019 at 9:08 am
DBs
Let me know when the Bucs def can hold Aaron Rodgers to 10 points.

Trubisky was just average coming out of NC. Perfect fit for the Bears.
September 6th, 2019 at 11:03 am
Trubisky sucks. Wentz sucks. Dak sucks. Baker SUUUUCKS!!!
I’d honestly have Deshaun Watson on this Browns team, with a #10 PICK after Garrett, if I were gm.. they BLEW IT!! THE Bucs are LUCKY!!
And I ALWAYS said Luck wasn’t a leader. I like him as a player and person but he just was never “all in”.
Let Jameis go to the Bears, a true pro style coach, nasty d and run game?(missing Jordan Howard) and see what happens. I predicted that before the Arians hire being and old Walter Payton fan.
I’d take Jameis/Deshaun/Mahomes(Andy Reid made Kevin kolb look good)
Over Wentz/Dak/Baker/Goff. Those 4 are MASSIVELY overrated and rely on their teams for ANY success.
Trubisky IS better than Mariota. Not saying much.
September 6th, 2019 at 12:21 pm
Trubisky is such a reminder of the awful QBs the Bucs used to have. A lot like Steve Walsh, Trent Dilfer, Shawn King, Greise, Sims, and Mike Glennon. Guys that weren’t able to do much of anything and basically out of the league as quickly as possible once a replacement was found. I think Trubisky wil be relegated to a back up role in a year or two and out of the league before too long.
September 6th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
The NFL in general is a crappy product. When the rules continue to change so drastically that you have to put a skirt on the QB and the DB’s can’t even breath on the receivers without a flag. Not to mention the season is already over don’t you know. The Patriots are Champs once again. Too predictable…who wants to watch that crap! September just means we are that much closer to Hockey season and the only organization that’s worth a crap in Tampa. Go Bolts!
September 6th, 2019 at 2:38 pm
Trubisky is awful
