“You Get Penalties, You’re Not Making The Team”
August 14th, 2019Bucco Bruce Arians says he’s got clear orders for his players: Clean up your acts.
Yes, penalties are wearing on the head coach: 14 out of 16 were accepted against the Steelers, he said. And more have been flowing in the joint sessions with the Dolphins, Arians said after practice today.
“We keep telling them, ‘you get penalties, you’re not making the team,'” he said.
Joe threw up Noah Spence’s photo up here because he made a crushing penalty in Pittsburgh that erased a Vernon Hargreaves interceptions and drew the attention of Arians.
Regardless, Joe hopes Arians keeps driving the accountability train. It’s a must for this team. And Joe hopes the train tracks extend to sloppy tacklers, too.

The best talent will still make the 53…. just part of coaching laying down the law ! Getting the attention of knuckleheads

accountability…..
something the previous staff was allergic to….
GO BUCS!!!!!

What scares the Bert Emmanuel / Jerry Markbriet out of me is the pass interference video review… flags can be thrown somewhere on the field on an eligible receiver every play…. ripe for controversy
August 14th, 2019 at 3:09 pm
Bucco Bruce threw Noah out there knowing that he already talked to Noah, because even though there was a penalty, he drew a holding penalty. Noah ain’t going no where, only LB to spend time in Pittsburgh backfield

The pentalties will be something I really pay attention to on Friday Night. It’s been a issue on this team forever and is fixable with quality coaching. I expect to see less and less pentalties in the coming weeks and expect them not to be a non-issue during the regular season.
August 14th, 2019 at 3:38 pm
@AlteredEgo,
Except it can’t be thrown on every play, because it is just like a challenge. And if the regular season is anything like the preseason, they aren’t going to change a lot of the calls on the field.
August 14th, 2019 at 3:38 pm
I have no idea what our record will be this year.
But man, i am seriously going to enjoy watching them play and the way they are coached. I frikking love the way BA talks to the team. He rips them new asses and sets the tone. And yet they still love him. That is a great combination for a HC.

JJ … penalties on Friday night… you must realize and factor in that it is preseason for refs too and they most certainly practice calling plays , partly to condition the players as to what they will be looking for and partly because they are refs and completely unpredictable and inconsistent
August 14th, 2019 at 3:46 pm
It’s the common brainfart penalties like false start, hands to the face, blatant holding that need to be cleaned up but there are also a lot of questionable flags being thrown on DB’s that are unfair, and almost impossible to avoid when over zealous refs make to much inference on the passing game. What ever happened to “just let them play”?

but turnovers are acceptable.. Jameis is safe then!
August 14th, 2019 at 3:53 pm
No more giving games away because of penalties. If an opponent is going to beat the Bucs it won’t be because we gave it to them. Accountability finally.
August 14th, 2019 at 3:56 pm
Tye, if you have the occasional turnover, but you have the dog in you to lead this team to the promised land…
Then yes. That is MORE than acceptable.
We will find out if JW hopefully has THAT dog.

Might as well cut the entire offensive line now
August 14th, 2019 at 4:12 pm
This team has been beating itself with ill timed penalties for years.
Hopefully BA’s accountability sheet and the ‘penalties’ (real or perceived) for showing up on it will turn the tide in this regard.
August 14th, 2019 at 4:23 pm
BA didn’t finish his sentence (which he often doesn’t do)….
“You get penalties, you’re not making the team”……unless you are an outstanding player and have a guaranteed contract and we need you”
Obviously, a bubble player will lose out if he is penalized……special teams penalties are so unnecessary…..holding, blocking in the back…..always get caught……not worth it. How many times does that really substantially help a returner?
August 14th, 2019 at 4:30 pm
the koetter years proved that players made way less penalties–they were also way low on the give a shat meter
minimal penalties meant they were not really trying easy for offensive line especially beneneneoch to avoid holding by letting the barn door wide open and not fight back
August 14th, 2019 at 4:43 pm
Spence looks like, “Who me”?
August 14th, 2019 at 4:51 pm
In an interview someone asked him about the undrafted DB from USF, Mazzie Wilkins (I think), and he said that he puts 100% into everything he does but he’s got to stop grabbing the receiver’s shirt.
Can’t make the team if you can’t follow simple rules.
Besides, the practice squad will be full, with all of Gump’s draft picks.

Aeians has been hinting..He’s not impressed with his depth. Look for us to heavily scour the veteran waiver wires after ore-season. I betcha we pick up at least 5 players from these sources.
August 14th, 2019 at 5:08 pm
“Look at those shifty eyes
Nowhere Spence is fooling the Bucsheep fanbase once again
Opponent runningbacks (even lesser talented runningbacks than Darrel Henderson) is going to run straight down Nowheres side up and down the field)
Kobe Faker
August 14th, 2019 at 5:12 pm
Seriously Joe- Noah is first string. Do you really think BA was insinuating the first stringers? No – BA was referring to the young rookies.
August 14th, 2019 at 9:18 pm
This is what accountability sounds like!
August 15th, 2019 at 11:40 am
About time! Look at all the drives that got called back because of just D. Smith’s holding calls on speed rushers getting around him, and only a minority of his holds were observed. BA is going to have to keep Auclair and put him, not Brate who is a poor blocker, next to D. Smith and chip the speed rushers so D. Smith can then pancake them to the ground hard til they wise up and quit sending speed rushers on his side, before they lose them to injury. D. Smith can hold his ground against Suh so big slower pass rushers are not a problem for D. Smith. And the special team culprits—cut a few immediately and that foolishness will stop. But the smart thing is to avoid returning kicks from the end zone. I love BA’s refusal to allow foolish penalties.
August 15th, 2019 at 12:25 pm
So why would you be OK with fighting?
August 15th, 2019 at 6:08 pm
We haven’t had accountability since the days of leather helmets!
