Injury update.

This makes Joe want to barf.

Though we know little to nothing about the injury Bucs stud defensive lineman Vita Vea suffered in practice Tuesday, it seems to be enough for Vea to have additional tests.

And Jenna Laine of ESPN brings unsettling news that the Bucs are having Vea undergo an MRI of a knee. But here is the weird part: Vea is having the MRI on Friday.

Generally, MRI’s are done within a day of an injury. Why would the Bucs wait three days for Vea to undergo an MRI? It’s not like he has to make an appointment with some third-party outfit in a strip mall in Largo.

Feel free to read into that what you wish.

Why can’t we have nice things? 😞

  2. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Bro if we lose vea this will be a huge blow after jpp🤦‍♂️

  3. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

I know from experience sometimes they wait for the swelling to go down

  4. Jason Licht Stinks Says:

Could’ve drafted an all-pro safety. Who needed that guy? Instead we drafted an out of shape nose tackle. Can’t wait for this team to go 5-11 and watch Jason Licht ruin another draft because for some god forsaken reason the Glazers are afraid to fire him. Should’ve been gone two years ago.

This team can never get out of its own way.

  5. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Bingo Rodney

  6. Buc1987 Says:

    Fook.

  7. Joe Says:

I know from experience sometimes they wait for the swelling to go down

    Good point.

  8. Bucsfan1988 Says:

Yup, quite a bit of swelling so having to wait a few days..

    Points to ACL tear…Damnnnnn😫😫😫

Dear lord, please tell us the ACL is intact and it’s just a knee sprain.
    A’men…

  9. Bojim Says:

Ditto Steve. every year its someone that we need.

  10. Snook Says:

Really? [Joe does not know that. — Joe]. Pretty common.

  11. Clean House Says:

Regardless of injuries or bad luck,
Light runs a dumpster fire and should be barred from the nfl

  12. Joe Says:

They wait on the MRI .

Joe does not know that. Jenna Laine did not report that.

  13. Stanglassman Says:

Just speculating but I’ve never seen a big man walk like he did after a ACL. I think they’re checking the grade on an MCL. If that’s the case he’d be ready in all likelihood for game 1.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

    Cappa looks good huh?

  15. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Stanglass, great point. And what’s with the stretching? Which leg was the calf? Almost wonder if something muscular is popping up, altho Laine’s report does specify “knee”. Interestingly, last yr va Bengals he came out with knee issue and had MRI done next day. They thought at time it was going to be an ACL, but was not. Does not sound like similar issue…

  16. AwShbucs Says:

If this guy can stay healthy he has the tools to a be a top 3 interior Dlineman in this league.

Sucks he seems to get bit by the injury bug in training camp only…

  17. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Man what absolutely rotten luck. Its like most things for some reason just cannot go right around here.

  18. YoungBucs Says:

I sure hope Suh has broad shoulders in light of this update face palm.

  19. James Walker Says:

    Snake bit

  20. BigHog Says:

Vita Vea get back as soon as possible!! Next man up…time to shine!!

  21. Buc727 Says:

It’s real football, not Madden. Injuries will happen. The team that adapts best wins.

  22. Buc Believer Says:

Yup dude got hurt because it is still hot out. Wait until Nov/Dec when it cools off a bit and then he will be “fine”. Remind me again he IS from the South Pacific right??? Isn’t it hot there?

  23. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Out of shape. Gtfoh

  24. Billy_45 Says:

I agree that a man of his size would have buckled to the ground and been carted of the field with an ACL tear.
I’m thinking more along the lines of a Meniscus Tear.

    Here’s hoping at least.
Even with swelling an MRI would show an ACL tear.

  25. FireJasonLicht Says:

Out of shape NT? @ JasonLichtStink must be an FSU fan. All they make uniformed ,uneducated comments such as this.

  26. isrBuc Says:

    Waking up to this.. damn

  27. Destinjohnny Says:

I will rightfully crush Jason all over up and down
    But vea can play man.
James would have been epic but I’m okay with the big man

  28. Wideleftandright Says:

Uh oh vita is hurt.No problem! Well just get a DL off waivers or possibly buy one. what! No money in the bank for that? Maybe Swaggy will give some back, nice moves.J.L.WTF!!!!Soo snakebit.

  29. Magadude Says:

I tore an ACL and played most of a game on it, then did rehab two weeks and went back when something wasn’t right. Point is, yesterday guys were talking about maybe MCL. Often, ACLs are not clean tears and short of MRIs, they may be thought of as MCL or PCL strains. I believe this is what happened to VJax a few years back…

Sometimes if there is real swelling to the point it moves the tissue a lot docs will want to get the swelling down first. This is what really bothers me if that’s the case here.

I hope that’s not the case with Vita Vea. I bit my lip when Joe said the fact BA said he didn’t know anything about it was good news. I feared the old “don’t say anything until more tests come” and in the short time seeing BA at work, seems like he doesn’t sweat stuff or talk much on it until he does know something.

The MRI tells all. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

  30. SenileSenior Says:

He grew up in California I believe. His family is from Tonga. Hawaii is not as hot as Florida. Can’t say about Tonga.

Beau Allen is the next man up according to the “depth chart”. He is listed as 327 pounds.

A few prayers are OK too.
    ____________
    Go Bucs!!!

  31. Rick Says:

Was right there when it happened. He immediately clutched his knee as he was on his back. No one helped him up or anything. He walked gingerly to the sideline. Didnt look good anytime someone grabs their knee immediately

  32. Defense Rules Says:

SteveK … Your ‘Why can’t we have nice things?’ is the best recap of a Bucs situation I’ve seen in many moons. Awesome!

Magadude … Good point about diagnosing ACL-MCL during initial days if swelling. And yes, MRI should answer all the questions, although I somehow doubt that the Bucs will post the results on their website. BA & TB won’t be taking any chances with Vea (or with LVD) anytime soon.

SenileSenior … Many underestimate Beau Allen (easy to overlook when Suh & Vea command the headlines), but he … and Will Gholston & POSSIBLY Beckner, Ledbetter or Nunez-Roches … could ‘hold the line’ until Vea gets back in there. At this point I’m more concerned about our LB depth (with LVD out) than our DL depth. I like Minter & Cichy as backups, but not as starters.

  33. delson Says:

If its a high amount of swelling we should be concerned. There was an offensive lineman that played on a torn acl… Patriots player I think maybe Packers. Waited till offseason to get surgery.

  34. Buc'n Enough Says:

    Swaggy’s available

    Licht will sign him again!

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

    Get well soon big man!
It’s football, injuries are going to happen. It’s not IF, it’s WHEN.

  36. Pittsshore Says:

Things are lining up perfectly for the JW supporters who will blame the D for his garbage play. 3 started on D already down and out. Pats lost 4 last year and won the Super Bowl.

  37. Anonymous Says:

I don’t think it’s much to it. Probably a sprain. He’ll be ready for the season

  38. Pittsshore Says:

Another point to be made: VV is such an all star player that his injury did not even make the news on nfl.com. It would be like them reporting on the Dolphins losing one of their interior lineman….not news worthy of a player that cannot stay on the field that is on a terrible team.

  39. westernbuc Says:

We’re getting the tough practices the media demanded…

  40. BucEmUp Says:

Man wtf. Every year some bull happens. This just makes it not fun anymore. Having him and Suh rotating was perfect.

  41. Jeff Says:

Officially a bust. And the season is over. Signing off until next year. Maybe we go 6-10 in 2020. All we can hope for.

  42. Bird Says:

Why are people giving up already ?
    Suck it up butter cup
    And I know “it’s a buc life “

I think the Bucs moving forward need to give him more “veteran days”
He is a big behemouth. No need for him to go ballz to the wall all day everyday. He is the future. Need him fresh on sundays. That’s all that matters. Practice matters but not as much for the big uglies …whose job it is to take up 2 guys.

Hope he is ok. Unfortunately , you can walk somewhat normal with any kind of knee tear . Especially a guy that size. He could walk normal with no legs.

Agree …that sometimes they wait for swelling to go down. Arians could not be sharing some information about how bad …even though he played off like no big deal …when it really is

  43. kgh4life Says:

    @ Jason Licht Stinks

What’s this obsession with Derwin James? I wanted the Bucs to draft him also but it didn’t happen, so get over it. Don’t you guys remember who we had as DC last season? Mike Smith. Mike Smith wouldn’t even know how to maximize the talents of a player like Derwin James.

It’s unfortunate what has to happen to Vita, by all accounts he was having a great camp. Injuries are a part of the game, people on this forum would be calling Derwin James a bust if he was injured in consecutive seasons.

  44. Todd Says:

Resident optimist here. On the positive side:

    1) Kappa must truly be coming into his own. No small task rag-dolling Vea.

    2) Vea has proven he can bounce back from an injury and ultimately deliver the goods.

    3) We’re in pre-season…time to heal.

    4) Next Man Up truly gets tested. May they all be studs.

    5) We’ll witness Bowles ability to deal with versatility.

    6) Vea’s Madden skills should improve along with David. Should be a good battle of the recovering knees.

  45. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Patience for me before on popping off on this story….

  46. Ship Thief Says:

Billy is hoping that it’s a meniscus tear?!
    No!
I got one of those and:
    1) It hurts!
    2) It doesn’t heal!

  47. mark2001 Says:

Joe…certainly no doctor…wish one would speak up…but sounds to me that they suspect the possibility of some internal issue… maybe a small meniscus tear like Levonte suffered. Or a sprain. If the former is the case, bad news…but hopefully not horrible. Maybe a LD “small procedure” might be in order. Hopefuly nothing more. And yes, I’ve heard they often wait on the MRI until the swelling goes down.

  48. LordCorn Says:

    God why

  49. Andrew Says:

JOE CAN YOU TWITTER THE VIDEO TO DR CHAO AND UPDATE WHAT HE THINKS??

  50. Joe Says:

    Andrew:

Have been in communication with the good doctor — about Lavonte David. Hope to have an update in near future.

  51. buccs99 Says:

ALWAYS F*ING SOMETHING WITH THIS TEAM.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Everyone needs to calm down. This could be something very minor and they just want to be cautious. Could be a simple sprain.

  53. Buc4evr Says:

It’s never a simple injury. Always a Greek Tragedy. First JPP then LVD and now VV. This franchise is cursed every year in new and novel ways. Season could be tanked before the first preseason game.

  54. webster Says:

I told you. See my post on the first vea injury thread. This is not good

  55. Greg Says:

Thats the one guy we CANT lose! They usually wait one day for the swelling to go down. Three days would be to give it extra time hopefully that’s not a bad sign but doesn’t sound good

  56. Buccfan37 Says:

Now I feel a bit guilty for saying Bust em Cappa the other day.

  57. BA FAN Says:

Cappa played tough as an OT in the Senior Bowl and with development from a BA OL Coach he has mastered playing inside at OG. So we don’t have to have a Veteran Guard to play RT. Get a LT next year and move D. Smith to RG and Cappa to RT where he can start for many years to come. Beau Allen is 327 lbs. and added muscle for this year and has plenty of experience. He will be able to hold his own at NT until Vea comes back. All we need to pick up at cut down time is a big NT to play Second String.

  58. ModHairKen Says:

Well, that’s it then. With all of the doctors on this website, it is clear Vea will have season ending, hell, maybe career-ending, surgery. Season is over. In fact, let’s just cancel the season. The Bucs will go 0-16 without Vea. Arians will obviously quit. Only reason he came here is to coach Vea. At least we will get Tua! Jameis to middle relief for the Rays?

  59. LordCornelius Says:

You would think that after having the worst injury luck on defense in history almost last year we’d catch a f*cking break

Every team deals with injuries tho. Sheldon Rankins was a big favorite here and tore his ACL last year. Falcons had horrible injury luck recently too.

Just freaking find a damn way to win still. This is why you stock your trenches and build teams inside out tho. Need to go 3 deep at decent DTs and 3 deep at decent DEs

  60. pelbuc Says:

Wow! Injuries piling up and the Bucs haven’t even played a game yet. This dude is a potato chip. New coach , same BS bad luck.

  61. NPRSageBoy Says:

    He’s done

  62. pittsshore Says:

Sure glad we picked a kicker in the 5th round and not another DL

  63. ChanEpic Says:

I wish him the best but Vea is 2 for 2 on injuries in training camp. Add injury prone to Licht’s list of desirables.

  64. Cobraboy Says:

Jeez…calm down. Let’s see what the MRI shows.

    It could be just precautionary.

  65. Ken Stevenson Says:

I can’t believe the comments here. Out of shape? Seriously? Even the guys that are ripped have knee problems. Injuries are a part of the game. Every team has them. I guarantee before the weekend is over some fantasy stud from last year will get hurt and be done for the season. Next man up

  66. gilhealy Says:

Leitke is done for the year. Shoulder.

  67. Allbuccedup Says:

No problem bucs got plenty of money thanks to Jason Licht. If not there is always the dumpster in september.

  68. firethecannons Says:

lets pitch in and pay for a dr chao opinion Joe?

  69. #1bucsfan Says:

See if the Bucs didn’t miss handle GMC situation an asked him before coach started bashing him to take a pay cut we would have depth with vea GMC an suh that’s good depth at DT. Everyone has their opinion of GMC an that’s fine but all it takes is for vea it suh to go down an now we have no depth fat Thor cant cut it an golston plzz he hasn’t done anything. Great job bucs lol go bucs

  70. Brandon Says:

Waiting for an MRI to be taken means that there is usually great swelling in the area. Why not

  71. Allbuccedup Says:

#1 bucsfan your right you got do nothing gholston and one too many cheeseburgers beau allen and a lot of prayers.

  72. Elita Vita Says:

Calm down everybody. Getting excited over a “potential” injury is paramount to getting all bent out of shape after reading a mock draft you don’t like. Let’s just wait for the medical results to come in before we start heading to the Skyway Bridge to jump off. No need to borrow trouble.

  73. Mark Says:

Stroud reporting MRI already done…let’s see if he gets credited.

  74. Mike Johnson Says:

Vea never looks in shape. I said prior to the start of camp he needed to lose about 30 pds. Of course, he did not. Next man up Baby. No Excuses.
