“He’s Not Like Most Rookies”

The legend of rookie Devin White continues to grow. One veteran teammate now lauds him as the greatest rookie he’s ever been around for one specific reason.

When White was drafted No. 5 overall, Bucco Bruce Arians knew exactly who he was drafting: a dominant linebacker with incredible leadership skills, a man that loved football.

So far, White has lived up to the hype, flying all over the field making plays on defense.

And he’s been picking the brains of teammates.

Along with relentless study of the playbook, White has been getting pointers from the “Moneybacker,” Deone Bucannon. A 2014 first-round pick by Arians in Arizona, Bucannon knows what it’s like having to pick up Todd Bowles’ defense quickly and make an immediate impact.

While he has been quick to help White when needed, Bucannon hasn’t had to help too much.

“Like I said, man, when he first got here, he was a student of the game, he’s a student of the game now,” Bucannon explained when asked how much he’s been helping out Devin White.

“So, I mean, he’s not like most rookies. I feel like he grasped the playbook faster than any rookie that I’ve been around. So, I mean, just there’s little things here and there that I suggest, that I can give pointers on, but nothing too major, you know. For the most part, he has every box checked so you know, like I said I’m real impressed with him and how he carries himself on and off the field. So, I’m looking forward to the plays, the future plays that he’s going to make for this organization and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him.”

White surged after a quiet first day or two of training camp, making impact plays daily, it seems. He has been able to flash the impressive speed and skill that made him the highest drafted linebacker in years.

Just wait until he gets to show it off when it matters.

It’s funny how u guys are eat ur words now ….. you guys didn’t want him drafted here…SMH

  2. isrBuc Says:

awesome. What about Vea?? people are losing sleep in the holy land

  3. Buccernutter Says:

One Joe didn’t want him and he is and was very wrong about his analysis. He was screaming to not take him. Hell definitely eat his words and you’ll never hear about his initial claim again.
How bout some clarity. Joe never wrote that White would suck, never implied it, never expected it. Joe simply wanted an edge rusher in the draft and wasn’t afraid to be adamant about it. Nothing from White surprises Joe so far. Why would it? But let’s all remember nobody’s played a game yet. Joe is not anti-White, but Joe is very much frowning at the personnel gurus who took White over an edge rusher. –Joe

    Dear Lord—

May his ACL be with him.

    Amen.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Impressive Manbeast. How’d you sneak that one praising Devin White past Joe?

  6. Bird Says:

    Kamara and mccaffrey.

    Speed vs speed.
Can’t wait to see those matchups with Devin white.

  7. ModHairKen Says:

He has not played a game yet.

Here’s hoping that White does better with the “savior” label placed on him by Joe than the “America’s QB” placed on Winston.

  9. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

The only player I had ahead of White was Quinnen Williams. He would have been great along Vita but with the Suh signing it only made sense that White was drafted. Hope he is another Derrick Brooks.

  10. Bird Says:

    ^^^

The “savior” moniker that joe puts on devin white no question has a negative sarcastic twist cause he wanted an edge rusher.
I hope devin white takes multiple large dumps on joe this year and years to come.

    Great work Zach

    Alabama

I think bucs even admitted the same …quinnen was 1 and white was 2

Wanting to take another player at a high value position as a rush DE should not be considered as a slight to White! I wanted the Kentucky DE myself as I felt he would impact the game in more ways and that was even before JPP got hurt! We havent even played a preseason game yet so I am going to hold off annointing White the second coming of D Brooks! Since White is a Buc, I want him to do well and hope he becomes a perrenial all-pro!

  13. BucAllNight Says:

I wanted White all along and cant wait to see what he does this year….

Joe 2 will find something else to whine about I’m sure

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would not be surprised if Devin White gets double digit sacks this year.

That should make Joe very happy!

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

During the draft I didn’t even make a wishlist this year, so I just rolled with it. No picks stressed me out at all.

It was fun to watch. And I certainly understood the Devin pick, seeing as we lost Kwon. Devin is more than likely an improvement over Kwon (whom I liked).

I have to admit though…when the Dline dude fell to us, I was a little excited. It was nice having a choice.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

i fell into this trap with winston…..gotta see him play first…..no doubt he’s talented, but he’s a rookie…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. NOSBOS Says:

That’s that keen Aquarius brain at play. Gotta be one to understand.

  18. LordCornelius Says:

We need this guy to ball out immediately. Rookie of the year type sh**. GET IT

  19. NOSBOS Says:

    Consider it done Lord.

  20. firethecannons Says:

Nosbos wanted Devin White on this team from the get go. Honestly I was happy with him or ed oliver. Now I’m thinking we got us a once in a generation player. Go Bucs!

  21. BucsFan727 Says:

White is raw for a top 5 pick. He has alot to learn playing linebacker. Play recognition and taking good angles to the football. Thats what I see from his college tape that he needs to get better at. This guy could be special if Bowles can mold him into a game changer. Cant remember the last time we had a game changer on defence. I loved playing defence when I was younger and hope they bring some pride back to that side of the ball.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

We shall see how it goes, but White was considered the safest pick in the draft, and should be a pro-bowler very quickly. The only real question, based on the hype, is if he gets to an All-Pro level or not.

Hopefully he can do all the things people think he can do, because if so, he’s what you build the defense around as David ages out.

Also, man, what a terrible waste of David. He’s literally been a top 3 LB in the NFL for over a half decade now and most people have no idea who he is. If he keeps up his play for another 3 years or so, you’re talking about Brooks level of production at the position, and I don’t say that lightly at all. Yet he’s been cursed by being on loser teams with Ryan Smith and Chris Conte playing behind him. I hope White and the rookies in the defensive backfield can all get things brought together very quickly and the Bucs win some games so David can finally get the national press he’s should have had for years now.

  23. WhatTheBuc Says:

Agree with Rod on David. Lord C, I hope White is a a ROY. It’s not out of the question. A lot of teams were not sold on Josh Allen. The bucs may have been one of them. Also, I’d like to point out that Zach wrote this article. I don’t think he was even involved in the White vs Allen discussion on JBF.

  24. Buczilla Says:

As long as White can be mentioned in the same breath as Hardy Nickerson when he retires, then I’m good with us taking him at 5 regardless of what Josh Alan and Ed Oliver accomplish.

  25. Sport Says:

    Amen Buczilla.

    In BA I Trust!
