Monday Practice Observations
August 5th, 2019Joe has brief thoughts on this morning’s Bucs practice before manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zach Seifter chimes in.
* Today may have been the best practice of Training Camp 2019 from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. Joe didn’t see any picks from Jameis and really only one bad throw. That was an underthrow to Mike Evans deep down the left sideline that somehow wasn’t picked.
* After a fairly nondescript run up the middle to nowhere, Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich had a long one-on-one talk with Jameis. Strange.
* Chris Godwin made a crazy catch. Good coverage and Jameis threw it almost grassblade-level and Godwin digs it up.
* Carlton Davis bit on a move from Cam Brate down the right sideline and Brate left him standing in the grass all alone. Touchdown Brate.
* Easily biggest crowd reaction this morning was kicker Matt Gay kicking 59- and 54-yard field goals. After making one from 54 with plenty of room to spare a fan stood up and exclaimed “OH. MY. GOD!!!” Joe can tell that Gay is already a fan favorite. When is the last time Bucs fans actually wanted to see a kicker in practice?
* Jameis under pressure throws a jump ball to Godwin deep in the end zone and appears Sean Murphy-Bunting may have pushed him out of bounds.
* Jameis in red zone drills to O.J. Howard in far left corner of the end zone. Seen that a couple of times in training camp. Expecting to see that a few times this season.
* Evans on about a 15-yard down and out to the left and Jameis hits him right in the hands.

Arians pulled up the golf cart. He’d just done the 54 yarder and we were screaming “Back it up Matt!” But then Arians drove off and the moved to another drill. Looked good again!

Jameis seems to be getting stronger as the practices go on. This is great news for him and the offense and Jameis has been really strong in redzone drills. But I’m sure alter ego will regurgitate some crap about hitting recievers in stride

“JW3 out pattern to OJ @ redzone cant be stopped
vs linebacker too slow
vs top corner too small
6’6 250lbs
4.5 forty
great route running
very good hands/ will be better after watching Godwin
ranked 12th in scoring is what got Klueless fired
BA knows we have the same team as last year. All he knows is that with this exact offensive players, he can be top 5 in redzone offense
will that equal 10 wins and to the playoffs?
JW3 – 16 games
5000yards 42tds 15 ints
Bucs 5-11”

I would not yet say Winston is getting stronger. Until he actually is. Right now, he’s the same old Winston. Inconsistent for now. If he keeps getting better, then the case can be made he’s getting better. Nothing we’ve not seen over five seasons now. However, did not see any jump balls today.

If our defense is even minimally competent we should make the wild cards
