Is The Neck Brace Off? (Update)
August 2nd, 2019[UPDATE 3:25 p.m.] It seems we have a status report of sorts from injured Bucs defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul by way of his Instagram account.
It appears his neck brace is off. If this is just temporary or if JPP is finished wearing a neck brace is unclear.
JPP was involved in a one-car crash in South Florida on May 4 that resulted in a fractured neck. His availability if not his roster spot is up in the air as a result; he is due $7 million if he makes the final-53 next month.
As a result of his injury, JPP, a workout warrior, has been in a neck brace since the accident and it is likely he has not worked out since (who pumps weights in a neck brace?).
Today JPP posted an update that shows him without a neck brace. Now to be fair, we have no idea if this photo was taken before his wreck, though Joe has no clue why he would tease folks like that. Or perhaps doctors don’t want JPP wearing the brace around the clock.
So here is the photo. Let’s hope this is the first step to getting this guy back on the field. For the Bucs.
[UPDATE: 3:25 p.m.] Joe has been told by someone who would know that the photo JPP posted today on his Instagram account without wearing a neck brace is an old photo.

šsee you week 1 Big fella.
August 2nd, 2019 at 1:40 pm
you would not have to work so damn hard if you exercised some common sense every now then fine sir!!!!!!
August 2nd, 2019 at 1:47 pm
I wouldnāt bet against him working out with a neck brace Joe.
August 2nd, 2019 at 1:48 pm
Would make no sense for him or the team to have him aggravate a fractured neck.

This is JPP trying to get that 7.5 million he’s still owed, rather then the pink slip he deserves. Don’t worry dude, Licht loves paying top dollar for no results. You’ll get the money, but won’t play. Enjoy your last NFL paycheck.

DUMP HIM IMMIDIETLY! OLINE NEEDS MORE CAMP MEAT NOW!!! 30 year old DE with a broken neck will save you $7.5 million??? This is like some kind of holding on to Gerald like we were going to pick up his $13 million.

C-3, that’s what we call the third cervical vertebrae, in the biz. That in Not what the know it alls have been guessing. The odontoid is C-2. That said it’s still tough to know the severity. But, could just be the spinous or transverse process that broke, rather than the body of the vertebrae. Bottom line; He may be back sooner than we think…..Let’s GO BUCS!!

Haters….gtfoh..broke neck JPP still better then most in the nfc south
August 2nd, 2019 at 2:17 pm
Iām usually one to say that no news is good news, but this is no news.
August 2nd, 2019 at 2:17 pm
Mikadeemas is right. Severity is the issue. Could be a tiny crack. Which could heal relatively quickly. One can hope.
August 2nd, 2019 at 2:41 pm
I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I fractured my neck, the last place I would step is on a football field.
August 2nd, 2019 at 2:47 pm
Is there any way they can get a Donor C3 from JW. He wonāt need his after week 6.

“No way. This guy is never playing another snap in the NFL. His career is DONE. I know this because I broke my neck at my office’s spring bowling league last winter while trying to adjust the bumpers myself. Couldn’t use my left rearview mirror in my Prius for 17 years. Still doesn’t feel right. They should cut him IMMEDIATELY and give his 7.5 mil to the Dirk Koetter foundation for explosive losers. I hear it gives you first dibs for the waivers. If we sign about 20 camp bodies and they gain a half sack each, it’ll basically replace this numbskulls production. Definitely don’t want him in the locker room either, being a leader and encouraging people and whatnot… And while they’re at it, they should replace Jameis with Tyrod Taylor. He’s like a modern day Shaun King. That guy NEVER throws picks.” – your casual, everyday, neurotic and panic ridden Bucs fan.
August 2nd, 2019 at 3:01 pm
sorry pal but it’s hard to take a dude that drives a Prius serious when talking about healing, injuries or toughness or anything for that matter.
August 2nd, 2019 at 3:10 pm
Yeah, no sh!+ buddy. That was a great job, you got the joke. I think……..
August 2nd, 2019 at 3:13 pm
Haha… nice one tmax
August 2nd, 2019 at 4:09 pm
When I broke my neck, I was out of the brace in 7 days.
Couldn’t lift anything for 5 years. I was only 21.
August 2nd, 2019 at 4:21 pm
He ain’t playing this year!!!!!!!! And I couldn’t blame him.
August 2nd, 2019 at 4:34 pm
The injury was overblown by Design I’m sure there was a slight fracture but if it was that small that it high heels that much faster I think he’s back in October
August 2nd, 2019 at 4:48 pm
JPP has no business playing this year. By the time he gets healed up 100% from his neck injury AND gets back in football shape the Bucs will either be doing OK without him or the season will be in the trash.
The obvious thing to do IMO is to keep him on the NFI list this season, don’t pay him that remaining $7.4 mil (he SHOULD be happy with the $7.5 mil he’s already gotten for this season), and use that money to FIX THE OLINE when some decent OLine talent becomes available (preferably a RG). If anything’s left over, add a veteran RB to complement Barber & the others. We’ll need BOTH before the season gets too far along.
August 2nd, 2019 at 5:34 pm
Is he at the facility learning the new system??
August 2nd, 2019 at 6:24 pm
Let him go. I hate to say it but the Bucs would be suckers to pay JPP $7 million. He hasnāt worked out in months, he is on the wrong side of 30 and he just broke his NECK. His NECK. Not his foot, not his arm, not his anckle. NECK… sorry folks he is probably done.

tmaxi-pad:
Hey brotha, I drive a Prius…You gunna judge my character, toughness, and manliness on the car I drive? You must be a REAL MAN who drives a big ass truck or sports car! If we are following your logic, you must be compensating!
August 2nd, 2019 at 6:41 pm
Defense…..Isn’t that his business? I don’t think it’s fair what you said. To say he has no business playing is the same as telling him he can’t play. I think JPP should be able to do whatever he feels like he can or can’t do…….Because it’s a neck injury it could get sticky because it’s such a sensitive area. But if the doctors think he is taking a bad risk I’m sure we will hear about your that.
And I’m sure JPP has very smart doctors so if they clear him for football he should be free to choose for himself he can or cannot play football…….I firmly believe the person who knows best about your own body is yourself. Very unfair for us to second guess him.
August 2nd, 2019 at 6:45 pm
He will not count against the cap if on IR, people.

lighten up Frances…. don’t worry disposing of that battery from your toy car does far more damage to the environment than my big truck does over it’s lifetime but actual facts don’t matter….
August 2nd, 2019 at 7:13 pm
But Bonzai aren’t we in cap hell?
Seems to me like the most fear over CAP dollars is from fans. Is it funny or is it ironic?…..That those seeming less concerned about CAP $$ and JPP ramifactions are those that are most directly involved and fully understand all the IR & NFI rules?
August 2nd, 2019 at 7:20 pm
Winston Smokes, pay no attention to RealityisaTmax. (Hey, where did Reality go, anyway? Hmmm?). He and everyone that insults Priusā and their owners have never driven one or benefited from the (minimum) 48 mpg or itās Lexus-like ride.
You are probably correct in assuming that his ācompensationā begins with a big ole 4×4. [Not cool. — Joe]

Back/neck injuries are unlike any others. No two are alike and itās impossible to accurately estimate when heāll be back on the field. I would like to see him try PEMF therapy. It stand for Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy. I know a chiropractic neurologist who says you can heal a broken leg bone in 9 days with it.
August 2nd, 2019 at 9:40 pm
Who works out in a neck brace? Vinny Pazienza, that’s who. I seriously doubt JPP has been sitting around doing nothing. Pazienza had a neck brace and a halo with four screws in his skull to keep his neck from moving… and he was working his ass off on his way to another world title in boxing.
August 2nd, 2019 at 9:50 pm
The Aspen neck brace he was wearing was not meant to be worn all day long. If you thought that because he was seen in the neck brace (in his own Instagram photograph) two weeks ago, that he was wearing it all day long, you were mistaken.
JPP (rightfully so) has been controlling the photographs released. Don’t be naĆÆve that the photographs give you the picture of his healing or his strengthening and stretching exercises.
Old School said it right. No injuries are the same.
For JPP, it appears that he had no nerve root involvement. I still expect him to be back sooner than all the reports. Again JPP has been controlling the reports and no doctor has reported to any media on the healing, rehab or prognosis either short or long term.
August 2nd, 2019 at 10:24 pm
JPP will be back if it is possible! He overcame a bad hand and got our team the first double digit sacker which has been our dream for many years and he did it unselfishly staying on the field during the season longer than any DEs or DTs for the Bucs. He gave us loyalty and we need to support him too.
August 2nd, 2019 at 11:12 pm
Hahahahhaha oh my hahaha
Tmax is just so out there

Paul Wall Baby, Tampa has rain danced for a pass rusher like your self big man, be the bad guy and show them why the fear of falling to an razor edge that nobody does it better than me (you)! can’t understand the call for a cut of such a stud, but in a win now situation we need you now not for the next 10 years so carve em up when all 8 cylinders are running and offer no apologies while doing it! It’s not about me, or Tampa, or some salary capped fan! It’s about you stamping your name in the NFL of can and can’t do its. Being doing since day one ain’t about to stop now!
