Happy Gay
Tonight’s crappy preseason game had one hell of an encouraging and happy ending.
It was the Ryan Griffin and Tanner Hudson show in the final drive. Impressive! But the real meaningful fun came with 10 seconds remaining when kikcer Matt Gay trotted onto the field with the Bucs trailing by one point to attempt a 48-yard field goal on a wet, choppy field.
The kick was good — with plenty of yardage to spare. Bucs win 16-14!
Barring an epic meltdown in the next two preseason games, Gay will be the Buccaneers kicker on opening day. He made a 32-yarder earlier in the game, and he set the Heinz Field professional record with a 55-yard bomb a week ago.
Tampa Bay’s fifth-round pick looks like a keeper. Yeah, it could go south in a hurry, but Joe will savor the moment.
Joe’s going to celebrate by buying Ira Kaufman a Gay jersey to wear around town.

What Scotty said, if there was a legit competition for our starting kicker job Gay just won it. Better to not waste Cairo’s time and ship him to a team that could use him now instead of cutting him in 2 weeks.

We don’t need Gabbert……..Hudson should make the final 53…..& Gay can kick. Sure, he’ll miss some but he has a big leg.
Didn’t see the game but listened to the Dolphins radio broadcast…..the announcers said it hit the net so he had plenty of leg…..

Preseason isn’t here to enjoy, it’s here to evaluate and provide opportunities.
Which is why starters should only play in one preseason game, and the games should be free.
I like using them to spot potential. For example, I suspect several players will be cut because they did poorly, and there will be surprising keepers.

The end of the last two preseason games have been some of the most entertaining ending to preseason games I can remember. We got to see Griffin go the length of the field to setup a game tying 2pt conversion last week. This week we go down, get a TD, watch the Dolphins come back and get a TD and a 2pt conversion, then we got down for a long last second FG – that’s as entertaining as it gets in the preseason, in particular on a wet field.

I realize that the Tampa Bay area is LBQT-friendly. To each his/her own; as long as the matter is private I couldn’t give two sh1ts about who sleeps with who. That said I find those who lust after their own gender abhorrent. It’s Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve. Go ahead and put me in the cooler if that offends. I’d rather be ostracized for upholding my Christian values than celebrated for promoting venal, pernicious sin. Ask Daniel (yes, that devout man thrown in the lion’s den) about serving a Power Greater than yourself. Good to have the kicker position resolved, but remember this; the guy’s name is just that: a name. Not an endorsement of perverse, deviant sexuality. Really glad the dude’s last name is not Pedo, or some such. Go Matt Gay! Make those kicks!
