Another standout performance from Breshad Perriman

Manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zachary Seifter (young Joe?) is laser-locked on everything happening on the training camp field. And Joe has tasked him with typing up what happened last night. Here’s your need-to-know:

*The QB’s and RB’s get started on individual drills. Passing drills start and not a single pass hits the ground.

*Lavonte David is not in pads and here’s why: “swelling.”

*RB’s take off and the receivers now join the QB’s for individual passing drills before 11-on-11 gets underway.

*Jameis Winston doesn’t do anything special in his first couple of reps. Blaine Gabbert jumps in and lasers a pass over the middle to a wide-open Cameron Brate.

*Jameis is back in and completes a couple of passes to Mike Evans and Cameron Brate. Good protection on the plays.

*DROP! Jameis goes over the middle with a dart but the ball is dropped by Chris Godwin. A good throw by No. 3 is once again on the ground like on Thursday.

*Ryan Griffin back to pass and the pocket just completely collapses on him. LB/DE Shaq Barrett came around quick off the left edge and Griffin is just able to dump it off to Bruce Anderson.

*Red zone work gets started with Jameis in the shotgun. He delivers a beauty to the corner for O.J. Howard for the 11-yard TD! Howard is a matchup nightmare for any corner that lines up against him.

*Jameis follows up with a strike to Breshad Perriman in the end zone before hitting Howard once more for another TD! The last one was a sensational catch by Howard, who sprawled out to haul in Jameis’ pass. Jameis is now in a rhythm.

*Perriman now on Sean Murphy-Bunting. Perriman makes a quick move inside from the slot and leaves the second-round cornerback in his dust as Jameis finds him over the middle for the touchdown.

*Rookie receiver Anthony Johnson is lined up on Ryan Smith. Johnson too makes a move inside and RG4 hits him over the middle for another TD for the offense.

*Field goal time! Cairo Santos comes in and nails all but one kick. He sailed a 55-yarder through the uprights but sent a 59-yard FG just wide right. On attempt, punter/holder Bradley Pinion fumbled the snap and ran with it.

*7-on-7 works begins and Vernon Hargreaves just keeps making plays this camp. He’s draped all over Evans as Jameis tries to find Evans on a slant. Hargreaves got his hand on the ball and knocked it away.

*Gabbert hits Bobo Wilson on a checkdown.

*Jameis has found his groove today, continuing to complete passes for nice gains. He hits Godwin on the right side. Godwin makes a move on M.J. Stewart, allowing him to break free for a few more yards.

*Gabbert finally makes a big play! He steps up and hits Scotty Miller 25 yards down the field on a post by Miller. Big play!

*Jameis goes deep over the middle to Perriman who has separation but Jameis just under throws him and Mike Edwards comes in to break up the pass.

*Griffin tries to get something going but misfires on a few passes in a row. He is having a rough practice.

*Offense driving on the defense now. Both first-teams on the field. Peyton Barber gets the rock twice in a row to set up a manageable third down. On third down and about 6, Jameis fires a shot over the middle to Howard for first-down yardage.

*On 1st-and-10, a reverse to Miller is ran goes for negative yardage as the defense runs him out of bounds.

*Now 2nd-and-long, Jameis is under heavy pressure but finds Barber in the flat for a short gain.

*3rd-and-long, Jameis is looking down field and is sacked by Noah Spence!

*The second teams come out and immediately Gabbert picks up a first down on a quick screen to his tight end.

*It’s first down and Wilson gets the ball on a reverse and takes it for another first down. Gabbert then fires another pass for a first down to the defense’s 28-yard line.

*On first down, running back Dare Ogunbowale gets the call and takes it up the gut and is stuffed for no gain.

*2nd-and-10 now, and Barrett jumps offsides.

*2nd-and-5, Ogunbowale takes the handoff up the middle for four yards and is blasted by D’Cola Dixon! The young safety continues to turn heads with his play.

*3rd down and Gabbert bounces around the pocket before eventually finding room to take off and he gets enough for the first down!

*On first down Gabbert escapes the pocket again but is sacked from behind Shaq Barrett. Bruce Anderson gets the carry next and gets a few yards back on a run up the gut.

*3rd-and-11 and the defense jumps offsides again, creating a much more manageable third down.

*3rd-and-6, Gabbert zips a pass in between two defenders to Scotty Miller for 5 yards and a short fourth down.

*4th-and-inches and the defense jumps offsides again!!! Now 1st-and-goal inside the five for the offense. Anderson gets the ball and is met in the backfield and dropped for a 3-yard loss.

*Jeremiah Ledbetter then stuffs Anderson before Gabbert escapes the pocket and is moving to his right when he finds Anderson wide-open Bruce Anderson. Drop! Gabbert fired a bullet but Anderson blew the easy touchdown! Another drop costs the offense points.

*Third team on the field now. And the defense has no problem getting them off the field. Holding on the offense made it easier.*

*First team returns and Jameis is dropped for a sack, then Barber is stuffed in the backfield on second down.

*3rd-and-long and Jameis finds Howard on the right side for a nice gain. Howard is stopped short of the first down by about four yards.

*The offense is going for it, Jameis looks for Evans toward the sideline but Evans is held badly by Carlton Davis. The flag is thrown and it’s a first down for the offense.

*Now close to midfield, Jameis finds Godwin on a screen but he is stopped immediately for no gain.

*On second down, Jameis throws a dart to Evans on a slant for a big first down.

*A short run sets up 2nd-and-6, when Jameis looks to Evans again on a slant but the ball is tipped and almost intercepted by Hargreaves, falling incomplete.

*On third down, Jameis moves around the pocket, under heavy pressure and eventually makes the smart decision and throws it away.

*Now 4th-and-6, the offense stays on the field. Jameis again faces a collapsing pocket and he goes to Godwin over the middle, but the ball is picked off by Mike Edwards! The rookie safety was all over the play and wins that series for the defense.

*Jameis gets the ball with 16 seconds left at the defense’s 16-yard line needing a TD. On first down, Jameis bounces around the pocket and tries a sidearm throw to Brate but it hits off Brate’s hand and falls into the arms of Stewart for an interception.

*Gabbert gets the same chance to execute. On first down, he is stripped from behind by Barrett and the play is whistled dead. Eleven secons remain and it’s second down. Anthony Nelson breaks through off the left side and almost gets to Gabbert but the second-stringer gets the pass away to Tanner Hudson, who can’t make the catch.

*3rd-and-long now, the whistle blows as Gabbert is apparently sacked and the clock runs out.

    Manbeast… you are the best
    Hat tip to you sir
    Go BUCS

  2. BucEmUp Says:

As much as we all love Godwin, Perriman has size, strenghth and speed that if he puts it all together could be a stud. Best player needs to be on the field at all times

  3. Ndog Says:

When Jameis just let it rip yesterday he was OUTSTANDING. For instance in the red zone he was unreal with some of those throws. When he tried to be perfect he was average. He just needs to stop thinking, worrying, and trying to be perfect and he will be fantastic. He needs to have the Koetter sucked out of him in order to be what he can be. Remember the lines “you are the only one that can lose the game” or “just give them a chance on the deep ball”. You hear things like that over and over again and it causes one to put a lot of pressure on themselves or to try to always put the deep ball up for grabs instead of just letting it fly? If you people can’t see the damages Koetter did to this team, in multiple ways, then I’m not sure your fit to watch sports anymore.

The oline and secondary led by the fragile midget will ensure the glazers basement title streak remains in tact….

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I have been on record stating that Perriman will meet or exceed Djax’s production because a motivated Perriman with good chemistry with Jamies is better than an unmotivated but more talented Djax……

If I am close to being right we are $6 million to the good….

  6. orlbucfan Says:

Triple Kudos to Mr. Zachary. You have a keeper here, joes. I hope it’s not my long time Bucs fan hoping here, but there’s an enthusiasm present throughout the whole team including the rookies. That has not been present the last few seasons. Pittsburgh will be a very good indicator next Friday night. Go Tampa Bay!!

  7. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

    Good job, Little Joe.

If you see Hoss, tell him Ghost says, “Hey!”

  8. martinii Says:

Manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zachary Seifert. Great job, action easy to follow and there is defiantly a optimistic tone to your presentation.

  9. Bird Says:

Stoked to see Hargreaves blowing up
Covering ME 13 is no easy task.

  10. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

So far Mike Edwards is steal. Most impressive draft pick so far. He must be averaging a INT daily.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Here’s what I sense:

The Defense was getting whipped, then they adjusted, turned it up a notch and started doing better.

The old defense would have given up.

One of those Jameis picks were not on him. If a ball hit’s a receiver in the hands, it should be caught. It bounced off Brate’s hands, so it was on Brate.

  12. Ndog Says:

Last night with getting to actually watch live, Shaw Barrett looked unlockable at times, Devin White is certainly fast, Davis, Hargraves and Murphy Bunting were all over their guys pretty much every play. Brate and OJ looked really good as well, and man Perriman is both big and fast. On the bad side, man the olinemen were on skates pretty much all night when it mattered. I counted to basically two on several occasions were Jameis dropped back to pass and he was getting hit. The confusion the defense is creating is real and we just need to hope that translates to better communication on the oline when the games start. I wish I go to every practice as you learn so much being there in person.

  13. Stanglassman Says:

Last year at this point in KC training camp the big story and concern was how often Patrick Mahomes was throwing interceptions. Spoiler alert: It worked out fine.

“If we get to a point where Mahomes is under pressure from fans and the media to play conservatively and not throw any picks in training camp, where the results are as close to meaningless as they’ll ever be, is development will be severely hindered.

This is the time of the season for Mahomes to discover his limits, take risks and hone his game. He could throw 100 picks in the next few weeks, but he’d still be an infinitely better choice as the starter than Chad Henne or Matt McGloin.”

He needs to have the Koetter sucked out of him in order to be what he can be.

You did volunteer to do this already….. right?

    What did your hero say?

  15. Stanglassman Says:

I’ve been reading other about other teams teams camps prepping for my FF draft and it’s the same deal everywhere.

“It’s been a rough start for the Bears’ offense, which expected to make major strides. The defense has been overwhelming and kept making a mess of things Friday, including an interception by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix off Mitch Trubisky.”

  16. Bird Says:

    stranglassman

    I don’t understand the comparison
Last year was Patrick Mahommes first year starting (so kind of a rookie )
And these were his numbers as a “rookie”:

    50 tds over 5,000 yards …with 12 INTs. (So over 2 to 1 ratio)
    And NFL MVP

Other then 12 INTs to Jameis 11 one year , what is the comparison?

  17. kyle Says:

    love the work Zach!!

I wanted to comment on something I thought was relevant. Towards the end of the article, Jameis threw the ball out of bounds on 3rd down with a collapsed pocket. I have watched, every bucs game he has played and i honestly cant remember Jameis throwing the ball out of bounds ever. I think that is a huge issue with him. Peyton Manning did it all the time, live to fight another day.

Jameis has to stop the bonehead shenanigans, I hope this is a sign of a little maturity. I was impressed to hear this.

    Does anyone else agree?

  18. Stanglassman Says:

My camp surprise this year so far has been D’Cota Dixon. This dude can flat out play.

    Bird-
Thanks for making my point loud and clear. It kinda worked out. I picked him in the 9 round and rode Mahomes to the FF championship last year. Get ready to change your screen name cause JW3 is gonna have a great year.

  19. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    I feel better !

  20. Bird Says:

    Stranglassman

I’ve Never changed my poster name and never will. Been here well before you.
Little guy. And I Hope he wins and takes bucs to playoffs
Read my posts. I think he has been average to this point 16-25 range.
I don’t blame everyone else like you.
He is part of problem just like the defense …just like to oline. Just like the no run game.

And how did I make your point? You were talking about mahommes turnovers.
Mahhones was over 4 to 1 ratio. 50 tds to 12 INTs

Jameis has never been even close to 2 to 1
Great post though. You got me.
    😂

  21. firethecannons Says:

not even done 1st paragraph–Zach gets immediately into the action–no build up and waste of space–more action less “impressions” good job so far Zach–more coverage of what happens and less nonsense is perfect. no fake news here! awesome–Zach doing great!!!!!!!

  22. Pittsshore Says:

Great work Zachary. I would be curious to know if it is the same guy jumping offsides on D. It will show poor discipline if it were multiple players.

  23. Oregonbucsfan Says:

” Jameis finds Godwin on a screen but he is stopped immediately for no gain.”

That’s not the screen to test. Try a running back with Godwin blocking. Other way doesn’t work as well.

  24. Alanbucsfan Says:

Gabbert will be a sack and turnover machine if he plays.
    Jameis needs to stay healthy

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Ok the biggest takeaway is that Winston got picked off while they were simulating a 4th down play. They may have even been simulating an end of game scenario…….which seems likely since the next time he got the ball back he only had 16 seconds left. So this basically means that turnover was meaningless. Unless you can find a completion that play ends in a turnover. Its the one time it’s OK to try and force a play that are there.

That’s why y’all gotta quit getting so bent and trying to film study every miniclip you see. There is no context.

  26. Buc727 Says:

Thanks for the super updates Ira, I mean Joe. Since I haven’t been able to get to camp, reading your insights are the next best thing.

  27. Buc727 Says:

I should said thanks Zach, AKA Young Joe.

  28. FairMinded Says:

Nary a mention of Noah Spence….guess he disappeared when pads came on again? Though I don’t see Nassib mentioned either

  29. Alexander Nascimento Says:

    I liked “yong Joe” better!
    Great work! Again

  30. Rod Munch Says:

I really appreciate these play by play posts – they’re great – keep it up!

  31. 76bucborn Says:

i dont think enough has been said about blaine gabbert he has impressed me i thought he had good college tape did well at Mizzou but maybe came into the wrong scheme for him when he was drafted or needed more time to develop,
and in fact, i know some wont agree with this but i dont see a huge drop-off between gabbert and winston so if something drastic happened and the gabb had to step in im feeling a bit more comfortable today

  32. wausa Says:

    nice write up

Sounds like Jamies is killing it today.

  33. Clay Travis Says:

Only trash QBs let their receivers drop passes … don’t worry us wise fans like myself and my BFF @magadude will run JAY-MISS and his kind out of Tampa!

WE will WIN for WE are LEGION!!!

  34. BucsFan727 Says:

Stanglassman is right. And guess what haters. Jamies is the QB. Sorry about your luck. You ant running no one no where. You ……you….aint doing nothing of the sorts. Delusional fan that has two log-on name’s. Thats right. Mr Clay Megaterd Travis.
