Brady Quinn: Another 5-11 For Bucs

August 30th, 2019

“Jason, are you hearing this %^&$?”

This surely will elicit the following response from many Bucs fans: “Brady Quinn sucked as a player. What does he know? Pffft.”

Joe never understands that kind of take from fans about ex-players. Some of the greatest football minds in history either never played in the NFL or had marginal NFL careers. Yes, Quinn was a bust of a first-round quarterback, 4-16 as a starter with the Browns and Chiefs. So that means he doesn’t know football?

Quinn is a full-time host on SiriusXM NFL Radio, where he does a heck of a job. He tackled predictions for the NFC South this week and came up with the Bucs soiling themselves.

Quinn sees the division as follows:

Saints – 11-5
Falcons – 9-7
Carolina – 7-9
Bucs – 5-11 (2-4 in the division).

To summarize Quinn’s questions and thoughts:

How will Jameis Winston take to Bruce Arians’ system and how quickly will his execution reach a high level? Will Chris Godwin step up into a greater role? Quinn thinks he will, but overall he’s not sure where the combined lost production of DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries will come from.

Quinn sees Ronald Jones and the running game as a massive question mark, and he was aghast watching the Bucs offensive line against Cleveland last week. And like any quarterback would, Quinn studies the Bucs tasked with rushing the quarterback and he’s not too scared.

This is just about where the Bucs rank across the national spectrum. There’s little confidence the Bucs can emerge in their tough division. That’s what happens when you deliver back-to-back 5-11 seasons and rely on young players to revitalize your team.

It all depends on #3 how far this team goes.

  2. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Brady Quinn is in the same line as Chris Simms as pretty good evaluators of teams and their talent level. I think the Falcons are going to win the division this year and the Saints may take a step back to 10-6 and the Falcons 11-5

  3. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

All I can say is: Brady Quinn sucked as a player. What does he know?

  4. Buc Wild Says:

Brady Quinn didn’t even win 5 games as a starter in his career. Tell him to get lost.

  5. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Does that mean we won’t make the Play Offs ?

  6. IsrBuc Says:

4-6 wins, no shock. Yet another wasted season on the road to nowhere fast. We have no GM so its all-in every season with the little we got and its only going to get worse.

  7. Rojas Says:

This team depends more on the offensive line. Can it create holes for the RB.. can it give Winston time to throw. If they play the way they did in Cleveland again not even Brady would survive that line.

  8. Dapostman Says:

Virtually no one is going to go out on a limb and pick the Bucs to go 10-6 or better. Unless you are a Buc’s fan. After 2016 it seemed like everyone was picking the Bucs after their 9-7 season. See a pattern here? Until they actually point the arrow upward these are the kind of predictions you will get from the national media. Safe and predictable. I can see 8-8 due to the strength of schedule. On a good note there are no bad weather games.

8-8 this year and hoping to be the first team to play and host the Super Bowl at Ray Jay in 2021. That’s my wish.

    4-12

  11. Couch Fan Says:

I dont know what this season will bring and Im not even going to try to guess but I will tell you this, and I know it was only pre season, but I cant remember the last time our defense looked this consistently impressive. Ive tried to not to let myself get to excited but wow what a pre season. If we can get that kind of defense to go along with our offense…. Our playoff drought just might be a thing of the past very soon.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Fun fact: Testaverde threw for more yards this preseason than David Carr and Cam Newton!

  13. Destinjohnny Says:

I think 6-10 is more realistic

  14. rhenry Says:

Who cares what the talking heads think. Nobody has a crystal ball, anything can happen, that is why they play the damn games. Go Bucs!!!! 11-5 Babies!!!!!

    Yes!

Bill Walsh, what does he know? He never played in the NFL.

Bill Parcells, what does he know? He flamed out as a rookie in the NFL.

Bill Belichick, what does he know? He never played in the NFL.

Mike Ditka knows a lot. He's in the Hall of Fame!

Betcha Rob Gronkowskis is a football brainiac. He was a Pro Bowl player!

  16. Tye Says:

4-12 is where I land comparing teams they play and when… Anything better would be great but not expecting it!

  17. D-Rome Says:

    6-10.

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

Apparently if Quin sucked as a player then he is an expert at sucky football. Let’s hope he gets it wrong with the Bucs who have had the market cornered in sucky football.

  19. BucAllNight Says:

Fun fact: I threw for as many yards this preseason as David Carr did.

  26. TexBuc Says:

I still do not understand how ANYONE can make win/loss predictions without playing at least 2 regular season games. Lately many teams that were playoffs the year prior don’t even make the playoffs, and every year a couple teams no one saw coming have success.

  27. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

He is right. This is definitely a 5-11 team talent wise. A few bad breaks or the line doesn’t improve ASAP and unfortunately I think 5 wins is our ceiling. The secondary looked like somewhat of a strength in the preseason. If that continues and the line improves maybe they could get to 7 wins. I don’t see us getting 8 or more but I would love to be proven wrong.

  28. TexBuc Says:

We lost 6 games by 7 points or less last season with the worst pass defense and the worst field goal kicking in the league. With an average kicking game we should’ve finished 7-9 versus 5-11.

This season I could realistically see our pass defense ranked middle of league average, improved kicking game, and better game management (coaching) we could see 8-8/9-7 this season.

  29. MadMax Says:

Na, at least 6…..but im thinking 8-8 as long as the O line doesnt get JW killed. Then again, ole Griffin is looking pretty good….quietly getting his rep up.

  30. BucsFan727 Says:

Coaching, scheme, split locker room, QB and coach dont like each other. Alzheimer defensive cordinator for half a season. Players off the street starting for are Defence. Looking like a MASH unit. A coach trying save his butt doing things for him and not the best interest of the teams future. Not much development if any. And some how we won 5 games. Are locker room was a mess. Having a good locker room dosent win games but a dysfunctional one will lose you games. Ive seen development every where except Winston. We will get better as the season goes. Thats what real coaching will do.

  31. adam from ny Says:

we can easily win 2 more games due to kicking…and 2 more due to better coaching…that brings us to 9-7…

    however, i’m a realist…and i’m gonna say we will be 8-8…

    8-8 sounds about right…

if we are wildly lucky with bounces of the ball, add 2 more wins, and we go 10-6…possible wild card…

if it’s a miserably unlucky season, and injury’s hit hard, take 2 wins away and we finish 6-10…

but overall we are an 8-8 team right now…

  32. adam from ny Says:

we should most likely win 3 more games this year with better kicking and coaching…

    8-8

  33. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I am predicting 9-7 (more likely 8-8, but I love my Bucs and the homer is coming out here). I base this one the Browns preseason game. It was our worst, but against a good offense and a very good D. What I saw was
    1) better decision making by JW; give Jameis more time to throw – as he will have against most of the teams in the NFCS – and he will score more;
    2) a good Rojo, not awesome, but he saw the holes and he will get better (don’t forget the D he was going up against); and
    3) an exciting D backfield; they made Mayfield look very ordinary, if not bad. Yeah, he was missing his best WR duo, but we did not have ME3 either, it balances out

  34. mike johnson Says:

Despite the lack of talent at DE (without JPP), I still think we can finish at 8-8..maybe better? I like Arians’ He’s assembled hellva coaching staff. Gotta start out with wins against 9ers and Panthers though..Very obtainable.

  35. ElBajito43 Says:

TBH if we go 0-2 I will definitely start routing for #1 pick by week 3
