Stepping Up
July 5th, 2019One reason why Joe is very, very hesitant to start throwing rose petals at the feet of the Bucs for the 2019 season is there just are way too many questions and too much hope for unproven players to transform into studs to turn this franchise around.
“Hope” is a four-letter word for Joe. But there is one question Joe believes has a proven answer. That is, wide receiver Chris Godwin will get the job done.
Stepping out from under the shadow of malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson, Godwin should continue continue the upward trajectory f his career now that he will be a full-time starter.
There will be a boatload of opportunities for Godwin. And Joe has all the confidence in the world Godwin will respond with his best season to date.
And if Bucco Bruce Arians’ has this Bucs offense humming, Joe wouldn’t be shocked if Godwin turned in a Pro Bowl season.
Yes, really.

If he turns into the 100 catch guy BA is suggesting he’ll be, you couldn’t keep him out of the pro bowl. I totally agree he could be that guy.

I hear ya Joe.
But as bad as it looks, I have high Hope’s

Hope is all about perspective

I will offer heartily that with Godwin it’s more than “hope.” He’s got a superb record to build on so far, with legitimate concern if he has the durability. I haven’t seen anything to suggest he doesn’t, and if anyone is worthy of his own mantra with his name, it’s Godwin. References like “America’s QB” and “Savior” have not been earned…but I do wonder what Joe would call Godwin (in fact..no nicks for ME13 yet either?)

High hopes are a requisite for a Bucs fan……
I am saddened by those who have none.

Tis the season of high hopes…

Maga,
One of the Joes did try to pin a nickname Evans. there were many references
to “KY” hands in articles. Fortunately its a distant memory.

Goodwin’s health could become a issue as the full time starter. As with how we saw him get clobbered multiple times a game making prime rib catches from ground chuck throws. That he caught but paid the price with a few close to injury hits to his head his body and his legs, due to ball placement and throws behind him or outside his reach were he made or missed spectacular catches. He is a potential star player for us. For sure I just hope he is not left out to dry trying to catch the ball one to many times. Yes our QB has hit him in stride quite a few times too and he has the jets to get up field in a hurry. I am excited to continue to watch Goodwin grow as a WR for us. Wonder how long we might be able to keep him if we do drop $30 million a season on the QB position. I’d say probably NFL. Yes Not For Long. Keep up the hard work Goodwin. I am a fan of yours.
Go!! Bucs!!!

Godwin, uggh sorry.

Bria could have a 100 catch season and not make it to the pro bowl if the Bucs do not win. It’s like Brate leading TEs in TD catches, not on the radar. OBJ is out of the NFC but Amari Cooper will have a full season, then of course there is Julio, ME, Thielen if healthy, etc…

Xavier Ubosi!…will bring what this receiver group needs ….SWAGGER!!

@Bob I’m Valrico:
Probably nicknamed ME13 that thinking that Johnny Manziel “made” him, and not, in fact, the other way around.

Good one. Eventhough Jameis managed to place the ball a bit better than previous years. His receivers have been helping to improve his completion percentage . As for Evans hands, I remember a pass he caught on the sideline
with one hand that was 9 or ten feet high. He came down and got creamed . The next game he played decoy and blocked for about 10 WR screens to Hump.

Godwin is one of the last Buc players that I have any concerns about playing up to his ability.

Bellicheat, caroll, even Tomlin would have won.9 games average over the last 6 seasons. There is zero chance that thos team gets 5 wins or less. Im smelling another big sucess story for BA with this team

Jimmy Jack,
Connor was a great draft pick up by the steelers. The organization is the antithesis of the bucs. Stability vs instability. Coaches want to coach in Pittsburgh because of the organization and job security that comes with it. The bucs, not so much.
You mentioned RB. It hasn’t been a complete diaster. The picked one RB, Barber. He was a developmental guy from the start. He’s the starting back and that’s what the definition of developing players is. Arians loves the guy , and it surprised a lot of fans but that is a stamp of approval from a great coach.
Rojo, wasn’t prepared to contend for the starter role and apparently not for any real playing time eithet. Young kid, needs to be barbered. Or developed.
Since there’s only one player to base a judgement, barber, you have to conclude the player developed by koetter is successful. Unfortunately, He’s the only pick, Personally I think we needed a different type of back completely but licht didn’t sign anyone. Who is the blame game cam pointing to……yep
Licht. Dirk did his job at rb, receivers, and linemen. Marpet and Donovan is proof of this. Marpet came to the team as a developmental guy, he worked out.
Other side of the ball, why draft anyone. Sign veterans who could self coach ..no development or developmental players should have been sent to that abyss. But that’s exactly what licht didn’t do. He sent raw talent in your the void, the abyss. Did it work…of course not. Again, licht.

I said Godwin was the steal of the draft when Licht nabbed him. It’s Crazy how he can find such great players and miss on so many others.

Really like Godwin and Watson. I think our WR depth has been a huge strength. It’s a shame we didn’t move Jackson last year to a team like Houston for at least a 5th, I forgot what Houston gave up at the deadline for Demaryious Thomas but damn if we could have gotten something for that decoy of a player. I mean sure we got a 7th rounder for Jackson but still. In any case, weapons are not the concern. Fitzpatrick put up numbers with our offense that should tell you of the quality of weapons
