Film Reveals Evans Is Best In NFL?
June 17th, 2019Former four-year NFL quarterback Brady Quinn has become quite a big voice as a daily host on SiriusXM NFL Radio, which obsessed NFL fans talk about with a reverence usually reserved for religion, cheerleaders or a favorite beer.
Quinn also works breaking down the NFL for CBS Sports, and he clearly puts in the work.
Today on The Blitz on NFL Radio, Quinn was breaking down the Houston Texans. Of course, he talked about ridiculously great receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who is coming off his best season, 115 catches, 1,572 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He likened Hopkins to Mike Evans.
“DeAndre Hopkins, you know I said this about Mike Evans, Hopkins falls in that category too, where he may be arguably the best wide receiver in the game when you actually watch him, break down film and watch the way he runs routes,” Quinn said. “Look at what he’s going up against every single week, the double teams, etc. And then he’s been doing this for a large portion of his career with multiple quarterbacks. When you take that into consideration, too, it makes it look that much more outstanding what he’s been able to accomplish.”
Evans has played with his share of passers, too. First it was awful Josh McCown followed by Mike Glennon and back to McCown. Evans still managed a 1,000-yard season in that rookie year of his. Then it was rookie Jameis and the Bucs didn’t a ton but the Bucs didn’t have players to pull double teams off Evans. Then in came Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jameis Winston’s injuries, suspension and benching.
Joe’s hardly an elite film guru on NFL wide receiver tape, but it was awfully impressive to hear Quinn pull Evans’ name out of the air when he wasn’t even talking Bucs during the show.
Does Evans has his sixth consecutive season of 1,000+ receiving yards in him? That might be the safest bet of this Buccaneers year.
Miss the new Evans interview on the Monday Morning Joe podcast today? It’s linked right here.

The amazing part is all those stats and has never played with a good QB yet!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!
June 17th, 2019 at 2:44 pm
If Jameis is not back next year neither will Mike Evans….he will and should be traded while his value is high
June 17th, 2019 at 2:50 pm
Dafuq is realist talking about smh
June 17th, 2019 at 2:52 pm
mccown, glennon, fitz, jw… imagine if he had a good qb. #13 is best in the league!
June 17th, 2019 at 3:01 pm
Mike Evans as bad as it hurts to say this… but as long as he’s here in Tampa with Jameis or the Bucs get rid of Jameis … he’s hurting his hall of fame career … he needs to be on a contending team … he deserves it as a player… he should be with Aaron Rodgers or with Ben roethlisberger … he needs to be with a future hall of fame qb at this point in his career … as long as Jameis is here we won’t smell playoffs
June 17th, 2019 at 3:01 pm
He is my favorite buc. Hands down
Best in nfl ? That May be a stretch. Top 5 obvious. Top 3 likely
Antonio Brown has been that for last 5 years. Obj and Hopkins filthy
I’m guessing brown takes a step back this year.
Another 1,000 for Evans is a given if he stays healthy.
He has at least 5 good years left. He has already broken most buc records.
He will have them all after next season or 2.
June 17th, 2019 at 3:01 pm
Maybe Tua T. or Justin H. will be throwing to him next year.
June 17th, 2019 at 3:20 pm
but FILM show the QB throwing him the ball is one of the worst in the NFL unfortunately
June 17th, 2019 at 3:29 pm
Evans isn’t known for blazing speed, but we have watched him blow by DB’s before. If you want 15 yards and a first down throw it to #13. If he had a Qb that threw the ball in stride Evans would have even better numbers. A lot of times he does fall as soon as he catches the ball, might be muscle memory from getting blown upon half his receptions.
June 17th, 2019 at 3:49 pm
Evans is putting up hof numbers now. You do not get into the hof based on who you played with. You get in based on numbers you morons!!!! If you think joe thomas is not going to the hof because he played with the browns then you just solidified why you make the tampa bay fans known as the dumbest in sports you morons!!!!!
June 17th, 2019 at 4:00 pm
He’s a good example that you need more than blazing speed to be a top notch receiver. Top 3 for sure.
June 17th, 2019 at 4:30 pm
Mike has 1500 yards with only 80 something catches.
June 17th, 2019 at 4:48 pm
I’m sure if you guys know this, but how bad would Jamies be without Mike Evans catch radius? I have a hard time remembering Jamies properly lead a receiver. I’m sure its happened, I just seem to remember alot of jump balls to Mike and leading receivers into tacklers (aka slaughter).
Hoping that changes this year, our pass catchers have gotten creamed. Maybe that’s why Godwin is reluctant to play the slot, because his QB may get him killed and greatly shorten his career.
In BA I Trust!

Absolute best player on the team. He has played for the bucs with a shoddy team and always being double teamed and not the most accurate of QBs throwing to him. I agree that if the bucs have to start over next year it would be the best to trade Evans this year if it is going South. Problem is the people in control are not doing what is best for franchise they are doing what is best for their career. I absolutely feel that Mike Evans is top 3 WRs in all of pro football and would suck to lose him in Tampa but this team may be in full rebuild come week 8 of this season
June 17th, 2019 at 5:41 pm
Glad you guys are in love with this guy, not hard to get catches and run up yards when the only other receivers are absent minded Desean, Adam humpries, please. Mike is top 10, but not even close to being the best. Not hard to get 8 catches for 100 yards when your team is getting hammered game in and game out. Oh by the way, what’s the bucs record while he’s having his “hall of fame” career , the guy has made a career on 50-50 balls and I believe these same numbers show he leads the league in drops every single year. You guys are blinded by fantasy football numbers.
June 17th, 2019 at 5:53 pm
Mike Evans is my favorite offensive player in the league, and I’m really really thankful he is a buc every time I watch him play.
I know he had the season with the bad case of bad drops.
I know he got in trouble for the sideline scuffle.
But there is just something about him that I just can’t help but root for the guy. He goes out there and puts it all on the line week after week, year after year…
I just feel thankful that he’s on our team.
When I talk to my son about the bucs and try to really instill that deep attachment to the team that some of us feel… I point to Mike Evans.
June 17th, 2019 at 6:24 pm
Bobby……….It is just idiotic to say that he leads the league in drops every yr.
He did it one yr with 9 drops. Six of those came in one game against the Giants I believe.
And to rag on Hump who had the Second highest Catch % in the league just solidifies my point. You should try to understand the game better or just go be a Dolphins fan.
June 17th, 2019 at 6:26 pm
I like Mike as much as the next guy. However, there’s no scenario where he’s the best receiver in the NFL. Top 5? Probably. Best? No way.
June 17th, 2019 at 6:29 pm
@ bobby
Mike does not lead the league in drops every year but im sure you are an alternative facts type of guy.
To the rest of you morons. Randy moss made a living on 50/50 balls. Thats where the term getting mossed came from morons. His most famous line on the sideline was just throw it up there because they cant jump with me. Megatron made a living on 50/50 balls hence the nickname megatron. Hey morons, when you have a player capable of jumping over two to three people to catch a ball, you utilize that weapon. Thats what makes those players special. This is truly the dumbest fan base.
June 17th, 2019 at 6:48 pm
1250 yds / 10 TD’s/ Pro Bowl
Best WR in the history of the franchise bar NONE
June 17th, 2019 at 7:03 pm
Uhh Bird you might wanna check Antonio Brown’s number when Ben hasn’t been in the lineup. See his numbers with Mike Vick or Charlie Batch. Yea Big Ben May be an @$$-hole to what he feels are less important teammates but AB benefited a lot from the presumed prick of Pittsburgh.
June 17th, 2019 at 7:09 pm
Say what you want about ME,when your first years in the league are equal to Jerry Rice’s you ballin. Playing for a HC that actually knows TODAY’s GAME! Will only enhance his career going forward.
June 17th, 2019 at 7:28 pm
Then if I’m picking out of the top 5, mike Evans is still my favorite.
I mean, I get your point. But my point is that even if a couple of those other top 5 guys you are talking about were on the Bucs squad, Evans would still be my favorite. If someone says that OBJ and AB are better, I’m totally cool with that. Cause, well, yeah man, I get it hahaha
I’m just saying that I prefer Evans.
That’s my guy.
Right there.
Wearing red and pewter.
Total bada$$.
Mr big chest and Blondie look absolutely ok in other colors
June 17th, 2019 at 8:29 pm
Nosbos
Uhhh. I said last 5 years. Uhh
2014 129 catches 1698 yards 13 tds
2015. 136 catches. 1834 yards. 10 tds
2016 106 catches 1284 yards. 12 tds
2017 101 catches. 1533 yards. 9 tds
2018 105 catches. 1297 yards. 15 tds
Find me a receiver that has better over last 5 years . Fans /players / coaches poll the same way.
And no I dont want your number to call you.
June 17th, 2019 at 8:32 pm
Evans is among the best, and I think his YAC would be better if he got hit in strike more often. He is the main reason Manziel looked so good…and I always bristled when guys would say we should have draft Johhny. No one can be thinking that now. I also hope that Evans has matured from two seasons ago. Seems like it.
June 17th, 2019 at 9:40 pm
Webster. Im not sure there even fans. Probably some trolls. I wounder wich poster is Joe. Spin most of his articles negatively to promote paranoia and doom. Everyone Panic.
June 18th, 2019 at 1:48 am
Mike Evans is Licht’s greatest pick.
Regardless of numbers, speed or whatever, I really can’t think of a wide receiver I’d rather have on this team. He’s not a head case, he’s humble but proud, we don’t have to worry about him getting in trouble, but he doesn’t put up with sh!t. 13 is a straight up baller, and hopefully he gets the respect he deserves.
June 18th, 2019 at 12:10 pm
He’s already worthy of our ring of honor and if he averages what he has already done over the next 5-7 years, he’ll be a hall of famer.
June 18th, 2019 at 12:31 pm
Was excited when we drafted him. Instantly bought the jersey. Haven’t regretted it, best player on the team by far.
