Do Your Job

June 14th, 2019

Explains career-bests in 2018.

Lost in all the nonsense last year was that America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, had a nice season throwing the ball.

Clouded by a hassle with an Uber driver, clouded by a coach panicking and making a desperate, kneejerk move to try to save his job by benching him, and clouded by the hero of the joystick jockeys trying to ruin his career is the fact Jameis had some career-bests last season.

Yes, really.

This was not lost on the ultimate NFL-insider Adam Schefter of BSPN. When Schefter had Jameis on his podcast recently, this subject was brought up.

Adam Schefter: Jameis, last year, we talk about completing passes, you did complete a career-high 64.4 percent of your passes. You posted a career-high QBR 68.3. What was the difference last year that enabled you to do those things?

Jameis Winston: I was just going out there and try to do my job. It was a rough beginning of the year but knew I just had to go out there and do my job and do my best to execute and try to put our team in position to win.

Joe hopes Jameis learns this year that part of his job is also to hang on to the football. Joe can live with picks. The fumbles are what drive Joe bananas. Jameis can be very sloppy protecting the ball, which is borne out in his gruesome fumble numbers.

If Jameis can learn to hang on to the ball for dear life, he will be fine.

Barring a complete and total meltdown, Joe expects Jameis to be the Bucs quarterback for 2020 — and perhaps beyond.

    68.3? Uhhhhh…..

  2. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

That ain’t even close to a good passer rating…..

  3. Capt Kidd Says:

That QBR rating was better than Matt Ryan, Jared Goff, Russell Wilson and many other “Star” QB’s for 2018

  4. Francisco Menendez Says:

QBR is different than the traditional classic rating system used throughout NFL history. This is a different scale, I believe developed by ESPN, that scrutinizes mistakes more drastically. That number is actually better than some other big qbs last year.

  5. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

He was 26th in the NFL last year. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2018/passing.htm

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Thought Koetter was horrible coach for Jameis & the offense?

  7. Sport Says:

I interpret the Jamies benching differently. It may have appeared sudden (or knee jerk) but Jamies decision making in the field is what got him benched. Dirk sat his ass for his play, not to save his job. Do you really think the best way for Dirk to save his job was to flush Jamies? That is more like career suicide. It was a lesson! And it worked!

    In BA I Trust!

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

Jason Licht is preparing a contract for next year 5year 175 million. That adds up to 35 mil a year. Suh gone JPP gone thats 22 million plus another 13 mil for 2020 cap adjustment. Oh no, no cap space again again and don’t forget option year for hargraves 9 mil davids contract goes up a mil plus all the one year prove it contracts plus draft picks plus who knows what else, not being negative just saying.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

If he’s the 2020 QB then it’s on a multi year extension IMO

    @Francisco Mendendez

Per ESPN’s QB rating metric of QBR he was the 8th best QB last year actually.

I only put so much weight into the QB rating / QBR tho personally.

QBR weighs clutch performances though / timing of interceptions / other factors like the score of the game / etc. So I’d imagine his score is higher when all things like that are considered vs pure passing stats

  10. SCBucsFan Says:

Its hard to take some of JWs stats seriously when he puts up so many numbers during garbage time down by 25. Hopefully he learns to manage and win ballgames no matter what his stats turn out to be.

  11. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

For a qb who was hyped up as pro ready with a high football IQ prior to the draft it’s sure taking awhile to see him play like an average qb

    No more excuses for #3

His rough year and start were his own fault stop making excuses for a at best average qb

  12. Jim Says:

Didn’t Winston actually IMPROVE after the benching?

  13. Robert Says:

the more you hug his nuts the more irrelevant you become.

seriously dude was and is a loser until we see playoffs. candy coat it all you want, just makes you look stupid.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Winston’s completion % has risen every year in the NFL.

Imagine what he could do with better OL protection and an actual run game…

  15. Lord Cornelius Says:

“when he puts up so many numbers during garbage time down by 25”

False narrative that has already been debunked by research.

  16. Marine Buc Says:

Jamie’s Winston is currently ranked @ #24 QB in the NFL. Drew Brees is ranked #1. Matty Ice in Atlanta is # 4. Ryan Fitzpatrick is #7. Cam Newton is #17. Marcus Mariota is #22.

If Winston is not a top ten ranked QB we are in big trouble.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Pickgrin…I was about to type that. He’s improved every year he’s been in the league.

  21. Marine Buc Says:

There are a few notable names ranked worse than Winston. #25 Matthew Stanford. #26 Andy Dalton. #27 Nick Foles. #28 Alex Smith. #29 Joe Flacco. #31 Blake Bortles.

  22. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

We’ll know by the end of this season if Jameis can pull himself up to journeymen status….meanwhile Patrick Mahomes will be settling into elite NFL QB circles and signs a 200 million dollar contract ….I watch plays and don’t obsess over stat sheets…my eyes don’t deceive me ….”There Ain’t No Hope in Football”

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Kobe….I agree slightly with you for once.

Winston has his best season yet stats-wise, but the team falls short at 7-9 and Winston will be gone. Then they can start all over again and go maybe 4-12 the next year with the new QB.

This team sucked before Jameis and it will suck after Jameis.

    Jameis ain’t the problem.

  24. Joe Says:

There are a few notable names ranked worse than Winston. #25 Matthew Stanford. #26 Andy Dalton. #27 Nick Foles. #28 Alex Smith. #29 Joe Flacco. #31 Blake Bortles.

And how many Bucs fans would take Alex Smith, who hasn’t put a team on his back to win a big game since he played for San Franciso over Jameis? And yeah, it took Smith longer to develop than Jameis and he too was a No. 1 overall pick.

  25. SCBucsFan Says:

Yeah Lord Corn because we weren’t down in any laughers last year.

  26. Dapostman Says:

How do make an immature person change their behavior?

You take away what they love to do……………

I stated last season after Winston was benched that he needed that and he would start the last 6 games and he would be better for it. Check, check and check.

Some guys need tough love and Winston as an immature young man is one of them.

Not only did he protect the ball better but he was actually tucking the ball high and tight after that Giants game fumble where he had it loosey goosey.

This guy is actually figuring it out and will have his best year yet in 2019.

    Take it to the bank.

  27. Magadude Says:

Agreed, “Jameis Winston, had a nice season throwing the ball” when he wasn’t putting it on the ground, throwing it to other team, and making himself unavailable to his team because of his lack of respect for women, the law, and the NFL Code of Player Conduct. Short of that, GREAT season. Yup, Winston torpedoed the season before it started. And that was no “hassle” but very serious, disturbing behavior–much more than a knawing “inconvience.” Yeah, the NFL said he did it and cited corroborating evidence. Just because the whole report wasn’t released (probably good for Jameis and the Bucs and the NFL), doesn’t mean the findings are to be dismissed out of hand. Time doesn’t heal a lot of things, and don’t expect a good season to “erase” this with a lot of fans who turned in their passes over this in conjuction with the other issues of this team. Winston’s lying and denial into last year is the breaking point for a lot of people out there. A lot take issue with the fact he was not even man enough to be truly contrite. I think Winston is a very lucky young man. He is lucky that Kate didn’t get out of the car right there and call the cops, and that the investigation dragged well into the next year past the draft. Next, Winston’s play deserved the benching…as did the guy he replaced and who replaced him again. A clown show for a large part of the season at QB and coaching. However, I think one reason Winston played down the stretch vice being benched the last couple of games to see what Griffin can do, is because Koetter was trying to save his job. I think Joe has this backwards. Sad is that Winston had it all, mostly just handed to him, and he threw it away, and now he’s got to claw his way back…which may not be possible. Similar article to those past, so my comments are similar…

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    AlteredEgo….Patrick Mahomes are everywhere……

Don’t make it look like they can just be had for the taking…

Actually you can conjure up whatever you’d like…what makes you happy.

Put Mahomes on your Bucs and the team finishes with the same record as last season imo.

We keep talking about the same crrrrap over and over again.

Defense and running game ARE a problem. That’s not an excuse. That’s a fact. Jameis is part of the problem too. Just not 1000% like the Winston Derangement Syndrome Mob see it.

  29. Magadude Says:

  31. Defense Rules Says:

Lost in all the quantification of Jameis’ performance last year is Jameis telling Schefter what changed for him last year: DO YOUR JOB. None of us know for sure what transpired between Koetter & Winston when Jameis got benched in the Bengals game, but odds are pretty good I’d bet that it had to do with Jameis’ PERFORMANCE in that game (or rather, lack of it). Jameis played almost the first 3 quarters of that game … and played miserably. In no way, shape or form did Jameis DO HIS JOB. With 2 minutes to go in the3rd qtr, with the Bucs trailing 28-17, Jameis threw his 4th INT. He’d already been sacked 5 times. The Bucs’ running game was working fairly decently, Jameis had thrown for 276 yds (18-of-35) & Bucs had done very well in terms of 3rd & 4th down conversions & TOP.

Simply put, TURNOVERS WERE KILLING US. But the Bucs defense had (finally) stiffened and our offense was humming along. Winning the game was still possible & so Koetter made a HC decision: replace Jameis with Fitz for that last qtr. And Fitz ALMOST rewarded him for him: he went 11-for-15 for 194 yds and 2 TDs in ONE qtr. And oh ya, almost perfect QB rating (154.9). Bucs tied the game 34-34 with 1 minute left, but alas, it wasn’t to be. Dalton’s 23-yd pass with 30 secs to go, followed by Bullock’s 44-yd FG, cost us what could have been an awesome victory.

Dirk Koetter did Jameis a huge favor benching him in that game. it forced Jameis to focus on what should be obvious to EVERY player at EVERY position: DO YOUR JOB. Bucs had won the previous game against Cleveland 26-23 with Jameis having a monster day throwing the football (32-for-52 & 365 yds … but ZERO passing TDs). In the process though, Jameis threw 2 INTs & fumbled twice, losing 1, plus he was sacked 4 times. Bucs started off very FAST in that game … a safety, FG & 2 rushing TDs in the first 17 minutes for a 19-0 lead. Our defense totally shut out the Browns in the first half. Again our running game was doing good, everything was clicking in the passing game, we had a big advantage in the TOP, BUT … Jameis turnovers ALMOST cost us the game. It took Catanzaro’s 59-yd FG to pull out the victory after the Browns had tied it 23-23.

The title of this article is right-on Joe … Jameis, DO YOUR JOB.

  32. zzbuc Says:

JOe, JW deserved to be benched it was not about a Coach who wanted to keep his job!!!! he played really bad, then he pick up AFTER he was benched……I inivte you to watch the games again, and is pretty clear……
One thing is everybodys expectations about JW and a different thing is what really happens in the field. I think he can play way better than what he did……He is on his contract year……We”l see what happens…..But it makes no sense blaming others about his ups and downs!!!!

  33. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @SCBUCS

Do the research then my brother. I already did. For his entire career it’s basically a dead even split in terms of scoring in the 1st half vs 2nd half. If your narrative was true we’d see something different.

Ironically more turnovers / bad stats have come when we are down in “garbage time” than positive stats.

    @Buc1987

    EXACTLY.

The problems with the Bucs have been so much bigger than Jameis. I am going to keep posting this stat until people start to actually get what is wrong with the BUcs:

Avg Wins 4 years prior to Winston arriving: 4.25 (4-12 record)
Avg D rank 4 years prior to Winston (scoring): 25th
Avg O Rank 4 years prior to Winston (scoring): 25th (bottom 5 3/4 years)
Avg K rank in terms of % of FG made: 16th

Avg Wins 4 years with Winston: 6.25
Avg D rank 4 years after Winston (scoring): 24th
Avg O rank 4 years after Winston (scoring): 17th (never worse than 20th)
Avg K Rank in terms of % of FG made: 30th

If someone can cite to me all the QBs that are going to the playoffs with:
    -bottom 5-8 scoring defense
    -bottom 5-8 run game
    -bottom 5-8 special teams

Then I’ll start talking about QB as our big issue.

Until then fix the obvious problems…

    GO BUCS!

  49. DI Says:

Not sure if this is mentioned but QBR and passer ratings are not the same thing. The highest QBR one can get is 100. The highest passer rating one can get is 158.3. QBR is a ESPN generated metric not to be confused with the passer rating. So yes 68.3 would be a horrible passer rating…if they were talking about passer ratings.

Jameis screwed the fans over last year. No more excuses!

Can the #1 overall pick please stand up and overcome this losing?

When your decision making on and off the field sucks, fans have questions.

Question Sapp all you want, but he ain’t soft and he’s a damn winner.

Sapp is a 1st ballot HOFer for his play on the field. Jameis is merely a pro bowl alternate.

Pro bowl alternates are easier to replace than a HOF player. Raheem Morris, “I will tolerate you until I can replace you.”

I can’t tolerate another losing season with suspect QB play. The NFL rules have made it to protect the QB. Jameis doesn’t get a second contract unless his play is sound, consistent, and he stays out of trouble.

You know who gets second QB contracts in the NFL? Guys with at least a 2:1 TD:Turnover ratio.

It’s sucks to suck and the Bucs suck until otherwise proven. At least or #1 overall pick at QB is not suspended.

We need to start hot, finish hot, and Jameis needs to show the fans he’s real and can achieve consistency results.

Reading the fan boys/sheep/🐑, and having them cherry pick stats to try and put lipstick on this pig.

Why the hell it pay a rookie QB peanuts, if they can already be as consistent as Jameis, with a higher ceiling? And, if Jameis gets in trouble again he’s gone a year. If Jameis leaves the Buc Faithful out to dry again, than shame on every damn one of us for buying the BS.

Win in 2019, or see ya!

  53. SteveK Says:

Excuses are over! It’s time to ball out.

No lore cherry picking stats to try and change the story: we were 5-11 last year, in large part because Jameis Winston was suspended and screwed over our season

God bless Fitzmagiic for keeping us at 2-1, and for almost beating the Bengals.

Is it reasonable to ask for Jameis not to be the worst QB in the division? I don’t know if he can surpass any of Ryan, Newton or Brees this year.

Hell, is Jameis even the best NFL QB in FL? I expect the #1 overall pick to be better than Foles and Fitzmagic.

  54. SteveK Says:

Ndog, lord corn and other JW3 supporters,

Jameis’ season last year was screwed up because of his actions off the field.

Do you expect Jameis to be able to give us a winning season in year 5?

I understand he played better towards the end of last year, but what about all the piss poor play/suspension that led up to that.

If Jameis wasn’t an idiot off the field, then he would’ve never been suspended. He was suspended and koetter paid the price.

It’s all on Jameis and Hason licht this year. Nobody else left to blame!

  55. Rod Munch Says:

4th in QBr… which takes into account things like throwing to the sticks to move the ball, and devalues things like throwing a 4th quarter INT when you’re down by 24 and pushing the ball to try to do anything to get back into the game.

    4th in the league.

But the Winston haters are still upset that Mike Glennon got away. LOL!

  56. SteveK Says:

    Munch,

Not upset about Glennon at all! Glennon is better than Josh Freeman and they wad the point. Freeman was lost and is a poser.

Now for Jameis- I expect the #1 overall pick of 2015 to rise up in their fifth year.

I guess you’d be ok with another 5-11, 3rd year in a row, and having to cherry pick statistics to make Winston seem like he’s the real deal.

I have done all kinds of stuff wrong, but I will say as with the VAST MAJORITY of the rest of the free population, I did not touch a total stranger (who was working) in a “sexual way without permission” (basically, this is what the NFL concluded, not me. Jameis’s trangression to me and the community is he disgraced us. That is forgiven. No problem. But nothing says he is entitled to get back to where he was. It is not unreasonable to EXPECT and INSIST the QB and face of your local franchise maintains at least the minimal standards of common decency. If you think that is not a big deal, then too bad for you. Also, nothing to do with religion…it’s about the law and principles of common decency. Even the pinkos know you don’t do this stuff! LOL.

  63. Magadude Says:

Joe, others have very well addressed the Alex Smith question WRT Warren Sapp…from me…different era, different time, and differnt things done. Sapp was also not the starting QB. You shouldn’t diminish what Winston did. You shouldn’t even hint that it was not a big deal. My opinion.

  64. BucsBandit Says:

I think the Glazers have already decided NOT to resign Winston to a long-term deal. The team is already in Cap Hell and you certainly don’t get out of it by raising your QB’s already overpaid salary from $20M to $25M-$30M.

The only way the Bucs get back being a regular contender is to start over with a competent rookie QB that will do well under Rookie Deal numbers. It’s not rocket science.

Winston’s turnovers, and off the field nonsense, and lack of wins, has all but sealed his fate. He won’t be in Tampa long-term. BOOK IT.

  65. Magadude Says:

A point I stand fast on: Winston is lucky Kate didn’t get out of the car and call the cops where she stood. It could have ended up being much more than a conduct violation issue. Not a “hassle” and not “nonsense” and NEVER acceptable.

What the NFL concluded in a very detailed investigation was that Winston violated the personal conduct policy by “touching the driver in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent and that disciplinary action was necessary and appropriate. Don’t forget, Winston claimed Kate was confused and denied ever being alone in the car with her. That small but key detail WAS released, and was found to be untrue. Even if he were drunk and didn’t remember, pretty hard to imagne someone didn’t tell him they put him in a car with her by himself. Drunk or not, still on him…the action, the lie, etc.

  66. Magadude Says:

@BucsBandit…I agree…their man is Arians, not Winston. The QB Whisperer can be back at work with a #1 draft pick this time next year and can put all this Winston disgrace baggage behind them. And they desarately want to repair the Bucs image…

  67. BucFan727 Says:

I laugh at you Winston haters. What are you going to do when we sign him to a long term deal. If his so bad. Why is he still here? Cry me a river.

  68. Dapostman Says:

Some will change their screen name and jump on the bandwagon and others will fade away. Gonna be fun to watch.

  69. jjbucfan Says:

SC- you say it is hard to take his stats seriously because they were garbage time stats, I submit to you that was more difficult because of that. We had no running game when the games were close, let alone down by 20. Everyone knew we were gonna throw and he completed those passes anyway in crunch time with the defense pinning their ears back and taking chances. Sorry if someone pointed this out but this thread is ridiculously long with all the haters out spewing falsehoods.

87 …. did you buy season tickets like you said you would if the Bucs drafted Jameis… if not I think I’ve unlocked the curse the Most NFL Ready QB has been struggling under… be truthful now 😇

  71. JimmyJack Says:

Try to read into the stats all you want. You’ll never figure it out.

My focus is on Winston playing in a new offense. There’s a road ahead for Jamie’s. Y’all argue about the past. I’m gonna hop on and enjoy the ride.

  72. Figures Says:

    @stevek

Lmao Glennon has never been better than Freeman.
Freeman had a great year one year and was talked about in mvp circles.
And he put up pretty good numbers while he was here. But cocaine will do any one in.

Glennon has never had a good year ever.

Lmao google is your friend. Not saying freeman was great. He flamed out but Glennon is not and will never have a season like Freeman had

You’re completely wrong in every way saying Glennon is better than Freeman and it shows you have zero idea what you’re talking about.

You have lost all credibility with that statement. Moron.

Everyday I think I’ve read the most idiotic statement ever and someone comes in and raises the bar. STEVEK

  73. Buccernutter Says:

Maga literally posts on every jameis article about his character flaws from 3 years ago.

Yes, most of us don’t agree with that behavior. But it is forgivable as evidenced by Kate’s settlement or she would have pursued criminal charges if she was morally motivated. But she wasn’t. She happily moved on after stating it wasn’t about money and then proceeded to get paid.

You keep blabbering about corroborating evidence. Well that’s true but it did not clarify guilt in a court of law and until then it’s heresy. So you’re just wasting your time complaining to us about your opinion of his actions. Management has moved on, teammates, and even an overwhelming percentage of this fan base. But here you are in the minority trying to prove to us you’re in the majority. But it’s just not gonna ever go your way.

We get it you don’t like the guy. Shut up.

Someone uncover this dude’s skeletons. Lol

  74. Magadude Says:

@Buccernutter, forgiving doesn’t mean you put an unremorseful guy back into the role he was brought here to do and failed the first time. I realize your memory is not very good. Winston’s lies and perpetration of behavior continued into, and torpedoed last year’s season. Management has been mostly replaced, and Ownership has NOT moved on, you can bet on that. I don’t care about whether I’d be in the minority or majority…and you have no clue which is which anway…but what you don’t see are the fans that are so disgusted they gave up and left. While it’s a great blog where people (apparently only that agree with you) can discuss the issues, this isn’t Bucs fan central. You don’t like me putting up the goods, then demand Joe “shut up” about it–see what that gets you, Son.

Here you go again…you don’t like what I say, so I have to shut up. GTFOH. Too bad for you.

  75. Magadude Says:

Glennon was not as good as Free…his demons got him and it ruined him. Glennon is good backup, and that’s about it.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Altered….I had an expensive family matter come up.

I did however go to only 5 games that season….

Really haven’t been able to go to any games recently…working like a dog now.

  77. Buc1987 Says:

Maga….peeps are not so disgusted with Winston they just don;t follow anymore….

The team has sucked for the past 15 years WITH or WITHOUT Jameis.

This team will suck after Jameis is gone too. You’ll be happy though.

  78. Bob in Valrico Says:

As the franchise QB , it will be Jameis’s job to score more touchdowns. That is one all important measure of his game. When you have Matt Ryan and Drew Breez scoring 35 and 32 TD’s respectively, the bar is set pretty high. Jameis has
only scored 19 touchdowns through the air in two consecutive year due to injuries, suspension and benching.

We can debate QB and QBR ratings , but at the end of the day , scoring more touchdowns and limiting TO’s will help him achieve this goal .

Its now up Jameis and the offensive coaches to develop and execute a gameplan that reaches that goal. Hopefully the running game and O line will also be upgraded or step up.

The steps taken to make the defense more aggressive and attacking may be one oof the more interesting stories this year.
    Go Bucs!

  79. Race to 10 Says:

Theres a lot of people beating up on Winston kinda like we did @Geraldine I hope winston shows up this year better than ever because McCoy isn’t here to take some of the beating, Winston will be the new pinata for 2019 even if he plays well.

  80. JimmyJack Says:

Bob I would debate your TD argument and say that it don’t matter. I don’t care how much TDs Drew Brees gets. More important to me is what happens in the two games we face him……..Matt Ryan…….Let’s just not go there. He swept us last year. The time before he totally embarrassed us in Prime Time on our own field………and when we play them it seems like nobody cares, especially the players. Beating them at any costs should be the goal……..but again……..I’m not sure anybody really cares.

  81. JimmyJack Says:

Maga the rest of us have already forgiven and forgotten. You may make as big a deal about it as you wish but you are less relevant with each passing day………..We are focused on the future and you presence does nothing but try to tear us down. Keep trying but you will never succeed. We are too strong.

We also know that by the time the games start you will be rendered completely insignificant.

In the meantime have fun losing your little one man battle over there.

  82. Buccernutter Says:

Oh here goes maga with his Mickey mouse insults. Your comprehension is just as bad cuz I was talking to you and your never ending attempt to assassinate jameis’s character.

Yes the incident torpedoed the season but that’s been irrelevant to our ongoing discussion. You can’t let it go. And yes they have moved on because 2019 is now about his play on the field. Not about 2016’s play in an Uber. Thus why they shelled out the cash to acquire Bruce and why he came out of retirement, because he agreed with their optimism. A sentiment that you don’t share. A blogger on a website that repeats the same ideal over and over again.

Everyone’s talking about defense and jameis’s potential in 2019 and you’re still gossiping about his character flaws. This is football bro, not the bachelor.

Your age is extremely transparent. Btw it’s not that I don’t like what you have to say, you’re just extremely ignorant to this team and focused on petty, outdated drama. Remember what you said, when he screwed up in 2016 it was time to move on. Simple as that.

Bruce disagrees. You should fill him in.

Btw I respect those who don’t like jameis the person but I have 0 respect for those willing to crucify for eternity because of an UNPROVEN ALLEGATION. Keep wishing your Quarterback’s past hiccups reemerge so that your favorite team can push the restart button on a position we’ve spent 43 years trying to fix. Great way to cheer for a sport, Microsoft, apple, grandpa, Amazon.

  83. Magadude Says:

“You keep blabbering about corroborating evidence. Well that’s true but it did not clarify guilt in a court of law and until then it’s heresy.”

    Ohhhh….is that what “heresy” is.
You make it up as you go, don’t ya Bucnutter?

Just read that Todd Monken seems to be already failing in Cleveland — his head coach is thinking of benching him as offensive coordinator. Maybe we had even worse offensive coaches than we thought last year.

somewhere near Flowery Branch Dirk Koetter is grinning from ear to ear…

  87. JimmyJack Says:

Geno they got a rookie HC and a pile of Hollywood Free Agents over there. If that thing falls flat it shouldn’t be suprizing.

  88. SteveK Says:

    @Figures,

At this point in time, and ever since Freeman’s last year on the Bucs, Mike Glennon has been better.

Why did the Bears sign Glennon, and how is he currently a backup on the Raiders?

Where is Freeman? He flamed out big time.

Would you say it’s idiotic to think freeman’s better than Glennon, or has been for the past four years? The opening game in 2015 @ Jets says it all. Freezer couldn’t even get a snap off and then kicked a safety out of the end zone. All the while Lavonte David gets blamed for pushing Geno Smith out of bounds and drawing the personal foul.

If only we had a “NFL” caliber QB.

  89. SteveK Says:

    @ Figures

Glennon is still in the league and Freeman is out of the CFL. But yeah, he’s better?! LOL 😂 😆 😝

  90. Magadude Says:

Freeman WAS better then Glennon before he slow leaked and Free had the potential to be great…again…the off field stuff will get ya. THAT is why Glennon is still in and Free is not. I would add that Glennon is probably BARELY in. And that is also why the off field stuff matters a great deal.

  91. Mayhem41 Says:

Apparently Morgus the Magnificent can’t read. Too funny….. double check your own quoted page next time.

  92. Stanglassman Says:

Jameis had 3 fumble turnovers last year. That problem was solved last year.

The Jameis haters have painted themselves into a corner where they have to actively root for this team to fail this year. That’s not a Bucs fan by definition.

  93. Jean Lafitte Says:

His last 6 games of last season raised his numbers statistically which reflected his lowest output of turnovers as well in those same 6 games. There’s no coincidence by him protecting the ball better lead to achieving career stats. I hope this is the Winston we can expect this season if we’re to escape the shallows of Buccaneer Cove.

  94. SteveK Says:

    Magadude,

Agree with damn near everything you’re saying and especially the Freeman stuff. So much potential, but when he washed out it was clear. Sad, could’ve been really good. 2010 season was fantastic.

I hope Jameis can get our team back in contention, and ascend into a franchise QB that we so desperately need.

  95. Figures Says:

    Stevek

You’re an absolute idiot if you believe glennon is better than freeman.

Glennon will never have any season as good as Freeman’s

You have zero idea what you’re talking about

  96. SteveK Says:

    Figures,

Stop clowning. Freeman since 2014 has been toast. Since 2014 on, Glennon has been better, this why he has hung on in the league.

Freeman lost it and went mental. Couldn’t handle being NFL QB. I wish him the best, and his 2010 season was awesome ( better than Glennon for sure).
