“We Weren’t Far Enough Along”
May 31st, 2019Interesting revelation by Bucco Bruce Arians after practice, the 10th and final OTA session, inside the GlazerDome (Shed?) on the grounds of One Buc Palace today.
It was noticeable at practice that the defensive line corps was super thin. It turns out the guys weren’t hiding from new arrival Ndamukong Suh; they were at a charity golf tournament arranged long ago, and they had approval from Arians.
Arians said he gave all players the green light to be at the golf event but he joked that many were too scared to skip the practice session.
Arians added that he had intended to cancel today’s practice, but “we weren’t far along” as a team.
That’s not some glaring negative, but Joe was a bit surprised. Arians has said what a quick study the offense has been this spring, and the team is working on multiple fields when outdoors to give guys more reps, so Joe will assume it’s the defense that is behind schedule.
That’s no surprise given all the rookies and young players on that side of the football.
Hopefully, today’s practice caught everyone up.

And so the culture change begins! This is excellent, fear is a great motivator. Can’t wait to see all the cuts he makes and more importantly who he signs.

Defense??? Carmen Vitali noted yesterday that those young secondary members are forcing quite a bit of check down passes from all our QBs. This is fantastic news. If they are step for step with our guys they’ll be step for step with any WR Corp in the league.

My impression is that Arians believes in work days and play days both. I think that brings out the best in guys.
The Lightning and Rays have both had success with some of that culture.
