Also, when you evaluate the draft, don’t forget there was a special teams coach getting all moist. For those fans who don’t know, there’s defense, offense and SPECIAL TEAMS.
WE’ll figure out the right side of the OL before you know it.
It’s a shame to see Licht get the opportunity to redraft the same positions he spent early round draft picks on within the last three seasons. It’s affirmation of our basement dwelling record.
I still think my plan of trading every 2019 pick for a corresponding or higher pick in 2020 would get the team to the promised land faster than what happened last week…
Got to understand what the draft is for. It is no stand alone competition or “what you done for me lately. It’s a process linked to the team’s current situation, cap and future. In that regard re-drafting the entire DB class while neglecting OL,DL and RB pushes this draft down to a D- grade no matter how you look at it.
Even if these DBs pan out- the damage was already done.
To grade the draft, just look at what some other teams accomplished. Snead of the Rams, Ballard of the Colts and Dorsey of the Browns.
These guys are playing 4D chess while the Bucs are playing tiddlywinks.
Listen carefully to what 5th round pick, Happy Gilmour said in his post draft interview. Gump never spoke to him. BA never spoke to him. The ST coach never spoke to him. Nobody consulted his psychiatrist or evaluated his medications, can he pass a pee test. Nobody consulted the Utah coaching staff.
Happy said that he simply spoke to an intern a couple times. When he was actually selected in the 5th round, he was shocked.
Evidently a Buc intern had googled his name and heard that he had a strong and accurate leg. He doesn’t actually have a strong leg because he doesn’t think he can kick off in the NFL. He can kick 50+ yard field goals because of a running start. That won’t fly in the NFL. He also said that he won’t change his style.
Happy is not a fraud, he doesn’t think he can pull it off himself. Gump is the fraud.
Gump is so far over his head that it is ridiculous. Grade F-. An F grade could be 55%. Gump’s grade is closer to 22%.
We didn’t draft for value, meaning the spots that we took guys were reaches. We needed OL depth (and we could have drafted an immediate starter in the 2nd round). We could have used our 3rd round pick for DL/edge, instead we traded back and took another CB and a safety that was not even best available. Look, maybe the two CB and the S we took end up being good or even great starters eventually. But as of right now, from a value, need, and immediate impact standpoint, this draft is a C at best.
I am so tired of paying for season tkts and watching a losing team . How can any fan think this was a good draft .. no trench picks and same positions as last year …but we got a kicker !…again
Everyone talking about reaching and value based on ESPN rankings. Do u know how ridiculous that is? To insinuate something was a reach because Daniel Jeremiah said this person should have gone first? Those rankings are done by basically nobodies. We could do that sort of evaluation. Stating something is a reach today is just fallacy.
We will see who should have gone where in 3 years. It sucks we had to double dip on 2 position groups we can all agree on that but how much merit did Jason put into Mike Smith’s preference last year with those picks and the years before compared to bowles now? It’s a different coaching staff that prefers certain skillsets. At least it’s looking like d backs won’t be a hole, hopefully anytime soon. It’s been one for a long long time.
Some of you may think a specific position of need was a priority over who we chose but our coaching staff didn’t rank the value like u did and I trust them way more than I trust anybody here. I will not belittle bowles and Bruce in year one.
I gave it a C for now. Basically only player they took I loved for the value/slot was the DE in the 4th who could have gone early R3 without anyone thinking it’d have been a bad pick.
Curious about Kobe’s sexual experiences with Licht now lol.
Listening to the Joe podcast I am kind of with Izbit.. I was OK with those first 2 picks.. I wanted a stud at 5 regardless of position – a player to build around; and secondary was a need. The only knock on Bunting is the small school thing really. Otherwise he has the measurables of your desirable NFL #1 CB that can also play inside (i.e. not a 6’2/6’3 lanky guy who can only play outside).
But moving down in R3 and shotgunning on 2 more secondary players is where I felt the same way in terms of “what is the plan here?”
In that slot we could have had:
Darrell Henderson -explosive as f*ck pass catching RB
Dre’Mont Jones – perfect 3 tech replacement for McCoy
David Montgomery – ready to go 3 down back
Devin Singletary – Lesean McCoy esque RB
Chase Winovich – legit edge rusher that could have gone high in R2
Michale Dieter – instant starting OG
Jaylon Ferguson – edge dude with tons of production and R2 projected pick
Khalen Saunders – 3 tech replacement for McCoy
Seriously I loved basically all those guys… and that’s where we decide to drop back…
Those above guys = the best value of the draft due to the edge & DL depth & the money spot for RB.
ANY of those guys are likely MUCH more of an impact to our team and better value for building the team going forward compared to Dean + the S. Give me ANY of those guys + Nelson the DE vs Dean and the S basically.
Should have traded down in R2 not R3. Likely still get Bunting and if not there were plenty of other CB/S worth taking there if you were set on it.
I appreciate the fact that we massively improved the DB room with impressive size and speed combos but we didn’t touch the O-line AT ALL, nor did we grab a decent replacement to get rid of GMac. I can’t give this anything higher than a C as of right now, if guys like White, Bunting, and Dean/Edwards turn into something special I might just change my mind.

“Evaluate”?? It’s only been a few days, try back in a few YEARS.

It’s tough to evaluate any draft class based on names or where they were picked. Did the Bucs fill needs? Yes.
I gave them a ‘C’.

LOVE the kicker pick!

We have intelligent coaches now.
Lots of them.

If 2 out of 3 of the dbs we drafted become starters, it will be an A.

I hope these picks hit.

Couldn’t agree more. Very well said.
But if those third rounders become ballers we’ll both be wrong.
I would have gone winovich hands down.
And Henderson next. But I don’t hate the picks.

D as you drafted only 1 starter
Maybe 2 if one of the DB’s pans out
Licht sucks worse than Dominik
