Bulking Up RBs
May 7th, 2019As Joe scans the Bucs roster, the group of running backs is just sorry.
Ronald Jones has been a sorry running back through only one year in the NFL. It’s fair to suggest if he doesn’t get his act together this year, he’s gone.
Joe loves Peyton Barber and his story, but it is sorry the best thing people can say about Barber is that he works hard. So do landscapers. When you next see a guy carrying a rake in your front yard, ask yourself if you would sign him to an NFL team to tote the rock 20 times a game. Why not, he works hard!
Why, many Bucs fans have hoodwinked themselves into believing Gerald McCoy is the sorriest excuse for a defensive tackle an NFL team has ever had. If you believe that, also remember GMC works hard.
Chris Roling of Bleacher Report seems to think no-nonsense Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville is tired of running back Leonard Fournette’s nonsense and may be looking to ship him out of Duval. And Roling believes the Bucs are sorry enough at running back that Fournette would be a good fit.
As for Tampa Bay, the team should be willing to take a risk for higher potential at running back. They won five games last year and are now, with Ryan Fitzpatrick’s offseason departure, fully rallying around Jameis Winston. Peyton Barber was a dud a season ago at 3.7 yards per carry and 2018 second-round pick Ronald Jones only attempted 23 rushes, averaging less than two yards per carry.
A change of scenery might create a boom for Fournette, who could sledgehammer next to Jones after the Buccaneers mostly ignored the position this offseason.
This sort of makes sense. Sort of. Now if you are inclined to believe the current makeup of the Bucs’ offensive line is the equivalent of a broken damn, then Fournette would be a good pickup because he can break a tackle or two.
But then there are the headaches he causes off the field and his injuries, and his yards-per-carry dropped last season (although it’s Tony Dorsett-like compared to RoJo.)
Is Fournette already declining? Or would Fournette be a nice, buy-low option at running back? The former first-round pick is due about $3 million this year and $4 million in 2020.
Then again — salary cap!

Licht won’t do that. He’s too busy scouting next year’s crop of DB’s.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:04 pm
Fournette can’t stay healthy.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:10 pm
Decent upgrade. 4th rder and give’em to me
May 7th, 2019 at 12:12 pm
I’d take him for a 5th – 6th rounder
May 7th, 2019 at 12:14 pm
Funny I can’t remember Barber being given 20 carries a game? If he had, he likely would have broken 1000yrds
May 7th, 2019 at 12:14 pm
Uh no and besides the Bucs signed another cardinal running back from BA old roster. Unlike koetter BA doesn’t care what we think of the roster it appears he’s set with what he has. There won’t be a big name back coming here especially until the Geraldine saga has concluded
May 7th, 2019 at 12:14 pm
Hard to believe what players go for now WRT picks. I’d welcome him if the Jags were tossing him for a low pick.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Conte 1000/16/20= 3.125 yards a carry. I would think most backs could get 1000 given that chance, even on the Bucs.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:18 pm
That would be a fair price. Maybe on the high end. Could live with a fourth. That would be like trading Will Gholston for Fournette.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:19 pm
A total scumbag with injury issues. Yes. That would be perfect for the Bucs. Super Bowl here we come… NOT…
May 7th, 2019 at 12:20 pm
Jpp has a broken neck…
May 7th, 2019 at 12:20 pm
JPP our for the year. Unbelievable.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:25 pm
I’d rather give our UDFA RB Bruce Anderson a shot first. Say what you want Joe, but I think Barber, Jones III, Ellington, Wilson, and Anderson will suffice. Especially behind this weak offensive line. You want to spend some money? Find us a bonafide RG and RT first.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:25 pm
Fournette?
Between injuries, immaturity and attitude, why would the Bucs spend big $$$ on him?
May 7th, 2019 at 12:26 pm
Reported hop fractured his neck and may miss the entire season
May 7th, 2019 at 12:26 pm
Also need edge rushers as usual…Hope JPP gets healthy for his life but this pretty much will solidify the #1 pick in the 2020 draft
And GMC and #3 for fournette and throw in that licht waste AGAIN of a #2 in rojo to DUUUUUVAL
May 7th, 2019 at 12:27 pm
JPP done. I just said it yesterday to never believe this team when it comes to player injuries. They hide and lie.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:27 pm
Can he play DE. Jjp looks brokeb
May 7th, 2019 at 12:28 pm
@Buc4life7878 I bet Lee will be posting about Josh Allen in about 30 seconds.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:31 pm
Not taking a pass rusher is going to haunt us if it’s true about JPP
May 7th, 2019 at 12:31 pm
D Rome if you don’t believe the team with an injury report then why would you believe their report he broke his neck?
May 7th, 2019 at 12:31 pm
Can’t front passing on Josh Allen is looking bad already. Jpp was our only real pass rusher why did we feel like we didn’t need depth at de especially when the rest of the line gets zero rush.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:34 pm
TBTeddy and play who, the released Joe Dirt at LB? White is still the pick, JPP only had one more year here.
May 7th, 2019 at 12:56 pm
Coughlin would be the best thing that ever happened to Mccoy , although as a pro I have never been impressed at all with Fournette I would make the trade just for a game finisher ( 😂) and carry eater !!! Oh ya 3 and 1’s also
May 7th, 2019 at 1:18 pm
Already added Kerwynn within 2 days of my post… Someone at OBP is taking notes!…

We will sign another vet before week 1.
A former part time starter 6 or 7 years in who doesnt have the juice anymore.
Good for first down and goal line.
Joe has already announced on this very website that barber has dealt with lingering injury issues. Bucs will get some insurance.
Hope Ron Jon makes the leap.
May 7th, 2019 at 1:47 pm
We passed on Henderson who would’ve made 3rd round money, and would’ve paired nicely with Barber, so why trade now for an oft injured head case, when we had a better cheaper option in the draft? Oh I know why, we have a dumb ass for a G.M..
May 7th, 2019 at 2:08 pm
FFS with all these completely negative ridiculous articles every day fueling an already toxic fan base. Is there not any way to just report on actual Bucs news without crapping all over every single thing that’s going on?
Is Licht a joke, sure, is there or has there ever been anything you’ve or we have ever said that has changed any of the outcomes due to that NO.
So instead of just making it worse for us the fans/readers and creating an even more negative atmosphere. Maybe sometimes just report without opinion on something or find something positive somewhere to report on. While that may be difficult for you all, I am sure it is still possible.

@ Bucco Bruce
You are cracking me up bro! Lol… Does Licht suck – yes. Do the Glazers suck – yes. Does this team suck – yes. I have an idea… let’s blame JoeBucsFan.com… hahahahahahaha… give me a break homey. Don’t blame Joe for this sh*t show. Joe is a homer wearing pewter colored glasses doing the best he can to report on a crap franchise. You want better? Cheer for New England Patriots…
May 7th, 2019 at 2:19 pm
Wow. Another disappearing comment. WTF Joe? Why you being a punk ass bitch?
May 7th, 2019 at 3:16 pm
shouldve went after yeldon…
GO BUCS!!!!
May 7th, 2019 at 7:21 pm
Shaun Wilson and barber and let’s go.
May 7th, 2019 at 8:03 pm
Seriously? Another disappearing LSU Tiger, Leonard Forget? No. No. No.
May 7th, 2019 at 8:11 pm
Pass…he is not special, injury prone and not a team first guy
May 7th, 2019 at 8:28 pm
Licht is a curse on this team. I blame him for the situation we are in. He sucks, FIRE LICHT and we will be alright.
