Non-update Beckwith Update

April 26th, 2019

All that is left is hope.

So today is Devin White’s day. That doesn’t mean Joe has forgotten other Bucs subjects.

Bucs linebacker Kendell Beckwith was lost for the season last year in a car accident just days before underwear football season began. He had to have surgery on his ankle and what was first thought to just be a minor setback suddenly turned into a lost season for the promising Bucs linebacker.

Today Bucco Bruce Arians spoke after the introductory press conference for first-round pick, new Bucs linebacker Devin White. There, White mentioned Beckwith as one of his mentors when he was a young linebacker at LSU.

And later speaking on the side with the local pen and mic club, Arians also mentioned how Beckwith raved about White as both a player and a teammate. So Joe hit Arians with a question about Beckwith.

Joe asked Arians if there was any update on Beckwith. Arians shook his head no but did say, “Keep your fingers crossed.”

Back in February at the combine, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Chris Beard Jason Licht said he would have an update on Beckwith in a month. Joe then asked Licht if Beckwith was looking at a career-ending injury. Licht repeated his pledge of an update in a month.

It has been two months now and no update.

Joe hates to type the following but Joe has the gnawing feeling we may have seen the last of Beckwith playing for the Bucs. And that is a damn shame for everyone.

This is total bulls**t and irresponsible to the fans- sick and tired of the mystery surrounding this “organization”.
Like bums guarding a secret dumpster fire

  2. D-Rome Says:

That is a shame. The Bucs did the same song and dance with regards to Carl Nicks and the media/fans. We’ve seen it before.

That’s a helluva point. Joe had Nicks’ teammates telling him Nicks was done but the team continued to say he was good to go. He never recovered.

  4. Clean House Says:

The same crap and nonsense with every injury- do we make a point to hire moron be for team dr.s too?? MRS….and Sweezy is done, oh wait now he’s playing again- stop hiding you incompetence Bucs- it’s no secret!

  5. Clean House Says:

    MRSA

  6. Rod Munch Says:

In the middle of the draft the team isn’t going to show its hand – but hopefully know something post draft. But I agree with you Joe, it isn’t looking good. What a shame, because Beckwith looked so good as a rookie, and would be a perfect fit inside in a 3-4 next to White.

I’s love to see the xrays…..before and after…his foot must have been hanging @ 90 degrees to his leg…

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

“Keep fingers crossed”…..at least that should mean there is a chance….

  9. lowercaseg Says:

    so you’re saying there’s a chance

  10. Defense Rules Says:

I agree TBBF, at least there’s a chance that Beckwith can still make it back. For some reason, I thought I remembered reading that his surgery right after his accident wasn’t handled by the team surgeons, but rather by someone near where the accident happened. If it’s not coming along as it should’ve, maybe it can be redone? Just wondering I guess if they’ve explored all options to help him make it back.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

If you ask a team about injuries, especially before or during the draft, or during the season, expect non-answers or lies.

This has been going on for decades and is nothing new.

  12. Mikadeemas Says:

A shattered ankle is hard to come back from, let alone for a professional football player. If that was it, probably ends his career. But! If that WERE the case, he would probably already be gone. GO BUCS!!

  13. passthebuc Says:

Why would management release sensitive information for public to create disinformation

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I do think the fact that Beckwith is still with the team (even not practicing) means there is hope…

Also….when it comes to injuries, there are all sorts of HIPPA rules and other reasons to not reveal the true nature & details of the injury……perhaps it is Beckwith…..his agent or attorneys that are keeping a lid on this.

Since the accident was in his own car and with a friend driving, there could be litigation going on with the friend’s coverage or Beckwith’s uninsured motorist coverage etc.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

“Keep Your Fingers crossed” means…..There is hope But…A big But. Need to eval this guy and either move on or get it on. If that ankle is as bad as we believe, he’s done at the pro level. Stick a fork in’em. NEXT!!

  16. Mikadeemas Says:

    TBBF, so true!

  17. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

There is no reason this far out to fail to update us all on Beckwith. The Bucs know what’s going on. The treating doctors know what’s going on. And most of all, Beckwith knows what’s going on!

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Time to write Beckwith off. He’s done.
