Scratch Ramon Foster Off The Board

March 7th, 2019

“Jason, you should wear that coat when you woo free agents. It brightens the day.”

One of Joe’s fantasies is now completely out of reach.

The Steelers, six days before the ringing of the free agency dinner bell, have taken guard Ramon Foster off the board. The 33-year-old pending free agent starting guard got a new two-year, $8.25 million contract — and that sure feels like a hometown discount.

Foster, a 10-year Steeler who started every game last year and played for Bruce Arians there, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he was relieved to get a deal done and said staying there was a great feeling for his family.

Joe also found it interesting that the Steelers gave seven-time Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey a contract extension worth less annually than what Bucs center Ryan Jensen earns.

Still plenty of time for the Bucs to find a starting right guard to play with the rest of their veteran and well-paid offensive line.

Ryan Jensen has one more year to be better ❌

  2. DB55 Says:

$5 says tomorrow you’ll report that Caleb Benenoch has been extended for 6 mil a year.

  3. Licht sucks Says:

Surprised Licht didn’t make Foster the highest paid guard in the league… way over pays free agents and our own players. We have one of the highest paid o lines in the league and they are average at best! Should draft two if not three o lineman this year. Let Arians make the picks because Jason you suck at that also!

  4. JimmyJack Says:

Bummer. Ramon Foster has trained with a really good OL and sounded like a great OL target.Much better than this Lupati guy who can’t stay on the field…….Not sure who will be our RG will be next year but the choices just got worse with Foster out.

  5. thunderchunkyPA Says:

So we have 3 O Linemen paid 10 plus mill a year, and did NOT play well last season. I am still VERY worried Licht is putting WAY to much stock in the new coaching staff. There is still a BIG hole at RG.

  6. Bobby M. Says:

If we are truly targeting a trade down….we can snag an effective MLB and RG in rds 1-2.

  7. ncbucsfan Says:

Offensive line is deep in this draft class. 4 of 5 are already signed. We are not targeting lineman in free agency.

  8. Loyaltotheend Says:

Well paid but underperforming o line

  9. Rashad Says:

Wonder if bucs can get that RG from boston college. The Ira mentioned in his column

    Ted Larsen is available!!!

  12. Bird Says:

Only team in NFL with 3 lineman making over 10 mil per

  13. Bucfan1988 Says:

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Regardless of FA….we need a Oline pick in round 2 or 3…..period.

  15. Kyle Says:

my bet is we start a rookie draft pick at og

  16. Not there yet Says:

You guys think just about every pending free agent should be a target so guess he needs to be scratched off your big board

  17. MadMax Says:

Im telling ya…..C Bradbury in the 2nd…start him rg, then move him to C in a year or two…and of course D White with our 5th pick. Pick them.

“Surprised Licht didn’t make Foster the highest paid guard in the league…”

Hey, dummy. Ever hear of tampering?

  19. StoutGospel Says:

Yeah @MadMax…I too have been impressed throughout by Bradbury. He and Lindstrom have both been very highly touted by most draft evaluators. Which of course means, with our luck, they somehow don’t land here.

    Go Bucs! Get Quinnen!

  20. passthebuc Says:

In the first 3 rounds there will be a ton of offensive linemen that will be around for 10 years. get rid of Datson, Bend-over-ach, and pick up a center to replace ours in 2 years.
I hope Hump likes cold weather, cause he is going to be a New England guy soon.

  21. JimBuc2 Says:

like BA said, “If you are drafting for the O-line, you’re developing him for the next coach. We need trained beef-on-the-hoof. #77 C. Benenoch should be drawn, quartered and fed the sea gulls.
