Scoping Offensive Linemen

March 14th, 2019

Target of Bucs?

Even though Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht solidified his offensive line (with the exception of right guard) to the shrieks of many, does that mean the Bucs are content with the offensive line?

Apparently not.

Per NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline, the Bucs were one of eight teams that sent an offensive line coach to Norman yesterday for Oklahoma’s pro day. Four of the Sooner’s five starters on their front line should be drafted next month.

So who might the Bucs be scoping? Pauline didn’t say but it could be Cody Ford, a tackle/guard. He played positions well at Oklahoma, though the past season he was a starting right tackle.

Some analysts believe Ford will be a high first-night pick. Others believe he could be a high second-round pick.  Licht seems to like versatile offensive linemen. With right tackle Demar Dotson getting up there in years and right guard wide open right now, could Licht and the Bucs be thinking of drafting Ford to play guard this year and eventually move to right tackle to replace Dotson?

Last summer Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians spoke his mind about rookie offensive linemen. He’s not a fan. So maybe the Bucs hope to draft Ford and let him develop behind Dotson and still go out and get a right guard from a local landfill.

Count on Dunce Cap Light to pick the wrong one.

The right side of the offensive line is a problem. If you understand what you are looking at when you watch them play, you can visibly see RG and RT struggle play after play. Especially in the run.
It is the biggest need in a make or break year for Jameis and Litch. But yall refuse to see it.
Yall think one defensive player will fix the defense? Defense is about scheme and preparation. Coaching!!!
On the OL, if you dont have the guys, you dont have a run game, or a clean QB.
    Draft Jawaan Taylor please Bucs

He’s is a very good OLmen…he’ll only be available in a trade down scenario…

You know what’s crazy though, I’m not sure I can remember when a college team had the potential to have a QB go #1 two years in a row. Baker went #1 last year and now Kyler is likely to be #1 to the Cards. That is some crazy stuff right there. If the Cards do go QB at #1, then that leaves us some options at #5.

Right now, it is looking like we could get Allen, Sweat, White, Williams, or that Tackle Taylor.

The analyst on RT Taylor isn’t great though. Seems to have sloppy hands, maybe having limited options in the draft at OL elevates him. He is graded to start, but that is about it.

Maybe…..2nd round…..be patient in the draft….good players will fall to us….and let’s not hope Licht gets cute with any extra picks we have….he loves to trade-up for hunches……

If we can’t land one of Allen or Q. Williams (Bosa will be gone), I would not be mad if we traded down and took Cody Ford to play RG. He could slide to RT after Dotson is gone (nxt year). It wouldn’t be a sexy pic, but it would vastly improve our run game and pass protection in 1 pick. We’d be smart to use the rest of the entire draft on defense afterwards though with the secondary being the focus.

I would like ya to get Cody Ford in the second round to play right guard, very solid player

    Kick

I assume you think Bill Belichik is a dunce since he not only had Licht as his college scout but promoted him to his national scout.

Ford will be gone late in the 1st Rd….But a guy like (swing T) Bobby Evans will be there on Day 3….Has started at both LT & RT at OU)

Jason will blow it then over pay him on his 2nd contract
    The glazers will be stoked

I assume you think Bill Belichik had JL for a GM and was happy with that.

Being a scout and being a GM….apples and oranges.

Some people are good soldiers and suck at being a general.

So, according to your logic, JL was a great scout but sucks as a GM.

I concur with you on that.

Lichts probably thinking Kicker at one!!!!

Got LUV for Cody. At either RG or RT

Garret Bradbury, somewhere in the 2nd, maybe a trade back and get him around the mid 2nd. That is unless we use our 2nd to get back to the first and get an edge guy or LB after drafting White or an edge guy at #5 (hopefully White, who can also pass rush) I wouldnt be opposed to trading back into the end of the first if the right guy is there. Ford and Lindstrom are def going in the 1st. Thats why i like Bradbury in the 2nd. Plus he plays C and can free up some cash when we move on from Jensen in a few years, if needed.
