Safety Sitdown

March 20th, 2019

Visited Bucs.

[UPDATE: 6:01 p.m.]The Bucs aren’t done shopping yet.

Though a lot of folks tried to connect dots between “Honey Badger” Tyrann Mathieu and the Bucs, the asking price was just too steep for the Bucs’ cash-strapped budget.

But in a clear indication the Bucs are not satisfied with the expected Chris Conte-less crew of safeties (including newly ordained safety M.J. Stewart), the Bucs plan to sit down today with former Colts safety Clayton Geathers, twittered Field Yates of BSPN.

This could be a helluva value pickup by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. He’s been a four-year starter for the Colts but only twice has he started more than nine games in a season. That’s because he’s been bitten by the injury bug.

In each of the past three seasons Geathers has either been on the PUP list or injured reserve list.

[UPDATE: 6:01 P.M.]Gathers re-signed with the Colts this afternoon..

Fix the trenches, fix the Bucs!

We need less than you might think, if the team gets coached up properly!

  3. BigHog Says:

Sign him, then draft one, then coach them up!

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

It says something about the safeties on the roster that the Bucs continue to shop. Conte WAS the best safety on the roster until the “Great Stiff-arm of 2018”!

  5. Bird Says:

Interesting that he has been with colts for 4 years . Never heard of the guy.

Positives – team captain last year. Almost 90 tackles last year and played in 4 less games. Can play strong and free safety.

Negatives – injuries / especially neck and concussion last year. /the biggest question mark is he has been in league for 4 years and not one interception. Ouch.

Colts have 80 mil still left in free agency. They like him but wanted him to test the free agency waters so they can keep for reasonable number. They can outbid Bucs in a second.

  6. Wausa Says:

I’m down with another veteran safety.
Bucs draft needs to focus on both lines.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Lol.

You guys see any name and you want to sign him.

Bringing an injury prone player to a team that consistently has a high number of players is a terrible idea.

However, as I pointed out two days ago, if Stewart were really moving to safety would the Bucs be signing 3-4 safeties? The whole move to safety was probably smoke.

  8. “That guy” Says:

Bucsfaman- That wasn’t really a stiff arm… he got wrestled to the ground by his face.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

that consistently has a high number of players INJURED

You can never have enough Safties, CBs, LBs, WRs, Oline, Dline, RBs, TEs, QBs, Ks & long snappers…..or cheerleaders & coaches.

If they’re still shopping, that means that there’s more salary waiting to get dumped.

Geez. Why you being a troll ?

    Hypocrite much
You call out people for being negative. Dude. Go look In the mirror homie.

  15. rrsrq Says:

Why not just go after Tre Boston, one good starter for the price of two special teamers

  16. Hodad Says:

We just moved a second round corner to safety, and are still waiting for our second round safety Evans to produce, yet we still need safety help, Sheesh. While the Bucs keep looking for a safety, better bring in some corner help because Licht hasn’t been able to find one blue chip player who can cover in five years! Can’t make this stuff up. Here’s some free advice Gump, don’t move into the second round for a corner, MJ, who runs a 4.6 forty, tight ends are faster then that. Good luck Stewart playing safety, they need to cover ground quickly also. Still searching for safety help, yet Derwin James was staring Licht in the face on draft day wearing Buc colors, and Gump passed.

  17. Saskbuco Says:

Cross him off the list, re-signed with the Colts

    He isn’t.

Pressure from the front makes average corners look great….add a stellar S to the mix who has their back and the corners make huge leap in confidence….

AM I THE ONLY F#CKING PERSON THAT DOESN’T WANT RYAN SMITH OR VH3 ON THE OTHER SIDE OF DAVIS!!!!!!!!!!

SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT SAFETIES BECAUSE WE ALREADY HAVE TWO YOUNG GUYS WITH POTENTIAL WITH EVANS AND WHITEHEAD. EVERYONE WANTS TO HATE ON STEWART BUT ARE ALSO SOOO FAST TO MENTION SMITH’S PASS DEFENSE WAS CLOSE TO THE WORST IN HISTORY. AND BOWELS BEING A SECONDARY COACH THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER AS A PLAYER AND BEFORE HE BECAME DC AND HC.

NEED TO FIND A F#CKING CB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. SOEbuc Says:

IF THEY’RE NOT GOING TO FIX THIS CB SITUATION, THEY NEED TO TRADE BACK AND GET GREEDY WILLIAMS.
