Irony In The The Latest Linebacker Re-Signing

March 13th, 2019

According to the trumpeting on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning, our beloved Buccaneers have retained the less popular LSU linebacker who wears pewter and red.

While Jets head coach last year, new Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles cut linebacker Kevin Minter. Minter was unemployed for weeks before the Bucs picked him up, and then cut him, and then re-signed him before he landed on injured reserve.

And now he’s back as a re-signed free agent.

Bowles must fired up! Probably not what he had in mind when he was told he could do whatever he wanted in Tampa.

No, Joe’s got nothing against Minter. He could be the kind of role player the Bucs need to help fill needs around Lavonte David. And there’s no reason to think Bucco Bruce Arians return a slacker; Minter played for him for years in Arizona.

Trying to stay optimistic BUT… WERE STILL HOT GARBAGE!!!

  2. Figures Says:

Lmao we gonna suck again lol.

Get ready for a long terrible season.

  3. BucHead5588 Says:

You know he played good for us last year before getting hurt looks like we’re resigning depth players role players not mad at that the Pats do this every year they lose players I don’t think they have signed anyone yet I’m proud our Bucs are not winning FA for once an are spending wisely it seems like a lot around one Bucs might have thought it was our coaching stay patient FA isn’t officially open until 4pm today

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

Can’t tell you how underwhelming the Bucs free agents signings have been….Joe keeps talking about the “free agency dinner bell”……it’s obvious the Bucs have opted to snack on stale potato chips….

  5. Bird Says:

    Ehh. Meh.

  6. isrBuc Says:

Must rebuild before we see any success. These shortcuts won’t work. Being a loser and broke is the worst position to be in. You don’t need a capable GM for that.

  7. DooshLaRue Says:

All you crybabies who want shiny new toys kill me.
I believe good things will happen and a plan is in place.
I’m happy that most of the overpriced divas are off the market and we didn’t get suckered.

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Tom- In fairness, we “gorged” at the FA dinner bell the last two seasons. How did that turn out? It’s not about the name on the jersey. This is where we go wrong. Bring in the RIGHT players.

  9. isrBuc Says:

    We’re not rebuilding.. we’re RELOADING…
what a joke. we can’t even keep our own losers.
    1. JMC, LVD etc. should have been traded for picks long time ago. No use in JPP. good player but won’t be here when the team is relevant again. GET THE PICKS and make cap for the future. that’s the only way to turn things around.
    2. What’s expensive now will be more expensive in the future. All people saying this team overpayed that guy etc. are clueless cause next year you’ll have to pay more for the same value. Prices are going up. You got to have cap to compete unless you strike gold in every draft pick.
    3. All this JW is young b.s . What does it mean really? It means that instead of JW getting experience in college, for free, TB just payed for that in his salary, in lost time and all the talent and cap room wasted in those years. These days you got to get production (and Ws) from your players on rookie contract. especially the QB. If you pay your QB 20+ million dollars when you’re not sure he can handle the pressure from a 37 years old journyman backup, it means you’re doing something wrong.

  11. Bird Says:

Just seems odd that he couldn’t even make Todd Bowles Jets team ?

He was cut and now Bowles will be his defensive coordinator . Weird.

Maybe they put Minter in place to groom another fellow LSU linebacker devin white ? That will be drafted this year at 5 ? LSU x 2

  12. Buc believer Says:

As the favorite character by GMC , every low standard Buc fans FAVORITE Buc would say… Same Bat time same Bat channel. Embrace the suckiness!

  13. Mitch Says:

Tampa goes all out in free agency the past few years and it has not improved the team. It’s a welcome change.

  14. ncbucsfan Says:

Worst NFL fans I know are ” Bucs fans” that have a penchant or fetish for b**ching on JBF daily!

  15. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Joe – any further news on Kendell Beckwith? Didn’t Licht say a month ago that he would have further details in a few weeks?

  16. Ed Kerber Says:

At this point next year we wil know if the problem is “coaching” or the problem is Jason Licht. He is doing us a favor.

  17. martinii Says:

Ya got to Pay to Play and our pile of chips has dwindled over the last few years. When you have a lot of cap space you can blow a big deal now and then, unfortunately considering our current circumstance every penny counts. The way I see it times like these expose the true value of management. Obviously we are not going to engage in any splash deals, but that doesn’t mean we can’t clean up our team, cut the fat, and put a competitive team on the field. If you believe coaching can elevate your players and there are some hidden gems in the mix, and a new scheme combined with a winning attitude can generate some wins then sit back and enjoy the 2019 campaign. If not go ahead and jump off the cliff, put yourself out of your habitual misery, stop your constant bitching and let the real fans enjoy Buc football.

  18. Not there yet Says:

Crying because your team didn’t go after any big names in free agency is so sad because you can’t update your madden roster huh. Dude did play a backup role last year and one of the reasons he is back besides knowing the defense. Pathetic article that won’t even mention what you thought of his play last year, just a backhand to the face. He was a small part of the defensive surge if that’s what you can call it. Decent and played better than Taylor you know the linebacker you claim was better than Kwon since the defense got better once he started

  19. Buc believer Says:

    @martinelli… THATS BUC FOOTBALL BABY!!!

  20. Steven007 Says:

Doosh, that may be the most optimistic thing I’ve ever heard you say. And for once I agree completely. This mentality is pervasive every year during free agency. How about we don’t win free agency for once and see what happens? Couldn’t be any worse.

  21. Tom Edrington Says:

@Bucsfanman: I’ve just fallen under the evil influence of the Joe(s) who never met a free agent they didn’t like…

  22. TOM Says:

I say wait & see how this all plays out. Minter seemed to play ok till he got hurt. Better than Bond?

  23. Jameis Almighty! Says:

    Love the signing.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

i think its a good move….LVD, minter and DB…..sub packages, DB slides to the middle with spence rushing from the OLB position…..

some of yall need to pump the brakes….INDY made similar moves last year…they signed autry from the raiders who folks thought was a 2nd or 3rd tier FA….all he did was produce…..drafted a small school MLB in the 2nd round and all he did was produce…..

big names dont win games….good coaching and development win games…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  25. Widerightandleft Says:

Short cuts are all that Jason Licht knows.Stop gap players and hoping to hit it good with oft injured or aging FAs.
Its almost like hes trying to finish off whats left of the fan base.l
I have been a devout fan since Parnell Dickinson hit the field but enough is enough.
How many times can you ride the wave through the offseason hoping upon hope something changes during the regular season. The fans in Tampa deserve better
So here we are again, time for the draft and all giggles and butterflies.43 yrs and counting.
    SMH again!

  26. Bucsdelight Says:

Maybe we sign Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as well. haha

  27. FireJasonLicht Says:

Its lookin like BA is gonna see what he can do with this roster and high draft picks this year and free up money for the next 2 years to make his final push at a ring as a HC.

  28. FireJasonLicht Says:

I do see us signing a a corner tho within the next week.

  29. Jean Lafitte Says:

    plus he’s practically free

  30. Defense Rules Says:

What’s the problem? When you have no money, this is what free agency looks like. Personally I’m glad that we re-signed Kevin Minter; up until this signing the Bucs had ZERO MLBs on the roster. Minter represents DEPTH PLAYERS like Buchead 5588 said earlier. Bucs NEED depth & role players like Minter. Last thing we need is another high-priced FA who underperforms.

If all goes as many of us now expect it to, Devin White will be selected as our MLB come draft day. Minter will make a good backup. Seems likely that right now, with limited salary Cap space, Bucs will continue to add depth & role players and wait until the draft to add at least 2 possibly as many as 4 key starters/key rotational players (IF we ultimately trade down) … MLB, DE/DT, RB, OG/OT. I do fully expect though that we’ll add a veteran starting CB to pair with Davis.

  31. pepsi Says:

When Minter was in for us last year, he was actually noticeably good. So glad hes back in the mix to be honest.

  32. pick6 Says:

the bucs are cap strapped, but part of that is the talent they are already paying. feelings are mixed on McCoy, but i don’t think anybody feels like JPP or Lavonte are overpaid. you should be able to build a respectable defense with those guys, some of the younger talents, and 1 or 2 stud draft picks.

on offense, the bucs could certainly stand some upgrades but they are better off than most of the league and should have no excuses.

i know we all want the team to add exciting pieces\names, but alot of those big contracts will prove to be good investments with the right coaches

  33. GhostofSchiano Says:

I am hoping Bruce and Todd have a plan or strategy in place. By now they must have reviewed the roster thus the actions of Licht.

I am going to wait until September to render judgment on things.

Keeping the fingers crossed in between scratching my head.

  34. lewis Says:

We don’t need the weak free agents that are out there we sighed enough of them the last 2 years and I like what the team is doing right now / the draft is the big thing we cant miss on .
