Donovan Smith Talks About His New Deal
March 6th, 2019Kudos to the Buccaneers for better leveraging their in-house media to give fans access to the happenings at One Buc Palace before ancient rituals like news conferences.
It’s about time they maximize all those Team Glazer resources. Joe hopes for more of that.
Below is a new contract-signing video feature on Donovan Smith. Unfortunately, despite general manager Jason Licht being seen embracing Smith like he just won the Super Bowl or date with Rachel Watson, Licht isn’t quoted on the video. C’mon, Bucs. Step it up!
Anyway, Smith said the process was “a little stressful but not much.” He praised Team Glazer, Licht and Bruce Arians for having the faith to extend his contract, which now has 27 million guaranteed dollars.
“There’s not many left tackles that grow on trees; you feel me?” Smith jokingly replied when asked why the brass said they extended him.
Smith said he looks forward to staying in Tampa and giving back to the community.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:12 am
he has been paid and you can guarantee cancer93 showed him that results don’t matter in tampa get your check ride to the bank and lose quietly on Sunday that is the buccaneer way….
once again bucs settling for the least worst option versus trying to get better.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:14 am
The best way he can give back to the community is by showing he cares on the field and lessens the loafing we would see. I’m not upset about this signing, but lets see some more effort on those run plays.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:17 am
Well jerkoff Licht, you done it again. Worse Gm in Bucs history. Thanks again for signing Mr. Lazy Ass. Bucs are doomed once again.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:18 am
Oh I forgot to mention another great move by Licht. Releasing Adams & signing Bond. Keep up the good work.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:23 am
With so little to cheer about during his tenure ( save for the inexplicable 5 game winning streak of 2016 )…Licht Weight needs to jump into pools wearing his JC Penney suits and declare victory at contract signings. He’s extremely funny without trying to be.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:25 am
Smith had to be signed.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:27 am
stock tip to buc fans…. i’d find out what brand of heart meds BA is on and invest heavily…. bucs keeping proven quitters like cancer93 and over paying loafers coupled with licht wanting to bring back the every core member of some of the most embarrassing defensive units in league history. I say by week 3 his prescriptions will be doubled and week seven they will have him on a nitroglycerin routine…. it’s not insider trading when it’s common knowledge the bucs will crush you mentally each and every week smoking is better for your heart than being a bucfan!
March 6th, 2019 at 10:27 am
The Bucs are better with Smith than without him.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:28 am
Donovan Smith gives up less sacks per game than “Stud” LTs Tyron Smith and Trent Williams ! He’s 25 years old and has never missed a start .
Also , he has only had one offensive line coach , and will be playing next to the same LG back to back years for the first time in his career.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:32 am
Ryan Baker Says
he also has a QB that is running for his life every play which saves his lazy arse about 2 sacks per game…. look deeper into the numbers…. math does not work for football sir… ask tickdr he had every calculation possible why glennon would be a star and yet the dude will be selling insurance in a year or two.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:34 am
Good info!!!
March 6th, 2019 at 10:37 am
@TOM says — Woah there. Why all the doom & gloom? Donovan Smith is the 2nd best rated LT free agent in 2019 behind the Patriots Trent Brown according to USAToday. He is rated #8 by Walter football, #5 by CBSsports & #1 by Bleacher Report — With better coaching I think this guy can be a Pro Bowler. The prior staff we had here was hot garbage

Re D Smith new deal….every criticism is valid, as is every compliment. As with every Buc decision, only time will tell if it was good for the team. The best hidden reason might be o line consistency to help judge Winston….QB decision may be biggest in team history. My belief is that the bucs picked the best of three bad choices, and I choose to trust BA, who made the final call on DS deal. Time will tell. Go Bucs.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:43 am
Wish he was as quick on the field as he was to sign his contract and run to the bank.

16 years without a single meaningful win and 2 good seasons in 42 hardly gives one optimism or reason to believe this team is any better than 6 or 7 wins especially bringing back and resigning career losers with a history of quitting on plays and coaches. they have learned well from their leader cancer93 that results don’t matter just lose quietly.
March 6th, 2019 at 10:48 am
Big time head scratcher here! Prove us wrong D Smith!
March 6th, 2019 at 10:50 am
@tmax
agreed with every one of your posts. terrible move. dude is a lazy, good for nothing marginal bum who will show us all his true sad sack half hearted colors this season. America is NOT supposed to work this way. becoming a millionaire for marginal to sub-par work, and I have 3 degrees in IT and will never make this kind of money. It p!sses me off!!!
March 6th, 2019 at 10:55 am
sandwichman
it’s not the same america sir. no desire to be great or work hard. it’s all about the hand out and blaming someone because you can’t make it…. playing the victim card is more important than integrity and hard work now.

“Worse Gm in Bucs history”
Can’t have been a fan more than a few years lol.

if your goals are underachieving and basement titles, you maybe right…after all bucs are the only franchise on planet earth that calls underachievers with a pathetic 5 career playoff wins legends.
March 6th, 2019 at 11:51 am
^ Is 5 really that bad, tmax? It’s quite a few. Steve Young only had 8.
March 6th, 2019 at 12:49 pm
fire
all do respect sir, yes 5 is absolutely pathetic when you people non stop with the legend this and legend that crap about the has beens that have not done anything in 16 years…. it gets old…. bucfan is like the pathetic high school football coach who relives his one play made 35 years ago every day….
glazers have trained the fans to accept losing and hold onto a trophy that expired 15 years ago. The fan base has bought in hook line and sinker….
brady has 30 playoff wins and as many super bowl rings as thing franchise as playoff wins
bradshaw has 14 playoff wins and is the only human on earth that 55 could POSSIBLY beat in jeopardy…..
montana has 16 playoff wins….
Hell joe flacco has 10 playoff wins…. double that of the underachieving has beens….
so yes mr fire 5 playoff wins iN a career is pathetic not legendary!!!!! 3 IN ONE YEAR MIND YOU. AFTER GRUDEN CLEANED UP DUNGY’S MESS THAT IS….
March 6th, 2019 at 12:50 pm
FIRE
At the rate the glazers are going brady might have more career wins than the entire franchise when he hangs it up
March 6th, 2019 at 12:57 pm
@Tmaxcon The Bucs gave up the 15th most sacks in the league last year . Do you really actually believe that the QBs were running for their lives? Seems like if they were constantly getting pressured , they’d be more towards the bottom of the league in sacks allowed?

You actually might be right about that, hahahahaha. (without taking a look at the numbers)
How scary is it that this even seems feasible?

what will you say about our players & staff when we win 10+ games and make the playoffs this year?…..

come on dude, i have a better chance of going on a 3 day cocaine binge with 6 super models on Richard Branson yacht with Bill Clinton than bucs have a chance at winning 10 and going to the playoffs…. plus if you go to the playoffs and lose first round you just prove you did not belong in the playoffs in the first damn place….
until they earn it on the field they deserve all the grief and criticism they receive.
March 6th, 2019 at 4:53 pm
he may not be the best, but he still hasn’t hit his ceiling yet. He didn’t play defense or kick so he wasn’t the reason we’ve been losing for the past few years he has so much room to grow. So does Ali I hope we can develop a 3rd player
March 6th, 2019 at 5:05 pm
tmax
thats BS….you the bears didnt belong?…..
sounds like the only way to satisfy you is going 18-0, not allowing any points from opposing offenses, while putting up 64 points per game…..
you a str8 hater….
#REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!
March 6th, 2019 at 5:43 pm
813bucboi
raise your standards fine sir…. winning in post season is all that matters… you are either contenders or pretenders and bucs have been pretenders for 41 out of 42 years…. it is not hate when the scoreboard backs it up…
March 6th, 2019 at 5:46 pm
813
and when you have not won a meaningful game in 16 years and have NOT even competed in a meaningful game in 12 years history is 100% on my side again not hate when it’s reality… i’d be happy with 1 playoff win before the decade is over but I would not lay any cash on it….
March 6th, 2019 at 8:27 pm
I feel him alright, we are still looking for a good left tackle. A tackle thats not a drive killer with stupid holding penalties that have stopped drives. Smith must lead left tackles in penalties. LAZY ASS.
March 7th, 2019 at 3:53 am
Maybe BA can bring out the best in him and we didn’t have much choice – the FA options are few and the draft is a crapshoot with OLime
Although I think he is a all pro level guard and and average LT – he has quick feet, is huge and reliable at the whistle
Let’s hope that new message of accountability rings true starting with DSMITH
