“Dangerous”

March 21st, 2019

Smart move.

The Bucs had one of the most dangerous wide receiver groups in the NFL before this offseason.

And with malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson jettisoned to Philadelphia and Adam Humphries bolting to catch hobbled Marcus Mariota’s 12-yard bombs, one would think the Bucs wide receiver corps has been diluted.

Justis Mosqueda has other ideas.

With the loss of Jackson and Humphries, Mosqueda believes the smartest move the Bucs have made this offseason was the signing of Breshad Perriman to fill Jackson’s void.

The 25-year-old Perriman, a 2015 first-round pick who ran a 4.19-second 40-yard dash, broke out in 2018 with the Browns, catching 10 balls for 259 yards and two touchdowns in December. The potential that he’d carry over that December success, at 25.9 yards per reception, must have sold Arians on the wideout.

With Mike Evans (a big-body receiver), Chris Godwin (a flexible option) and Perriman (a vertical threat), Arians has the start of a dangerous wide receivers room.

Joe will write this about Perriman: The arrow is definitely trending up in his career but the fact he’s still in the NFL is a step up. Perriman has been a total bust so far but last year he had his best year as a pro. So, yeah, Perriman is trending up.

Also, Perriman is a step up from the locker room angle as well. He won’t be hustling behind the scenes putting in more work to Pearl Harbor the career of the franchise quarterback than he worked on the field.

And if any receiver could have a coach that could save his career, it would be Arians.

he’ll fit right in and produce…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. Joeypoppems Says:

    Mike Evans = Michael Floyd
    Chris Godwin = Larry Fitzgerald
    Breshad Perriman = John Brown

These are the roles Im expecting our WRs to have compared to BAs Cardinals.

Only change is Evans will be the #1 obviously.

Only thing missing is a RB who can be used as a weapon in the passing game.

  3. macabee Says:

And if we add WR Olamide Zaccheaus/UVA as UDFA for slot receiver, we are really gonna scare some people. See the YouTube highlight video. Go Bucs!

  4. zzbuc Says:

I like this addition because is cheap, and maybe BA and Leftwich can improve him….I really don´t care to much his speed records if he drops passes as he did in the past…..If his hands get better, well I start to like his speed…….Speed without secure hands, is like having an ashtray in a Harley Davison…….usless!!!! But again I think if he improves his hands, could be an extraordinary addition

  5. BuccOff Says:

@zzbuc….THAT’S a quality take sir!! ^^^^^ Funny as hell and spot on!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Given the money, this could be an improvement over Djax….

I think being near home will help Perriman…..and BA will definitely help.

  7. RustyRhinos Says:

Ashtray in a Harley. Hahhahaha useless no doubt. I like this Perriman singing. True words on any WR, speed without hands equals useless.

  8. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Although Justin Watson runs fast 40 time, not sure if he has that short quick bust like Humphries but hoping he gets a shot at being a slot receiver.

Did not think it was possible, but on paper, the Bucs could be more dangerous at passing than last year, especially if we can get the run game going.

  9. D-Rome Says:

…Adam Humphries bolting to catch hobbled Marcus Mariota’s 12-yard bombs…

Really, Joe? When you compare the numbers for Winston and Mariota for last season they are nearly identical. The biggest difference is that Mariota hardly had anyone to throw to and Jay-Miss had one of the best receiving corps in the league.

Hobbled Mariota also started more games.

Both QBs have had disappointing careers for very different reasons.

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Can someone say Nassib??? Excited to see if this guy’s got some skills.

  11. buc15 Says:

    ^^^^^ hahaha yep

  12. catcard202 Says:

He is fast…But to play WR in the NFL, you have to catch the ball consistently…That has not been a strong suit of Perriman’s game.

  13. Billy_43 Says:

    Good God

Mariotta is a check down Charlie and we all know it!!!

One of the only QBs ever to throw a TD to himself even LOL

Compare the numbers is hysterical even.

Plus Humphries doesn’t catch long balls period.

    Sarcasm, Look it up!!!

  14. EvolvingBucsfan Says:

we should be just fine IMO

    Evans
    Godwin
    Parriman
    Watson
    Bobo
    Howard
    Brate
    Auclaire

  15. ChanEpic Says:

D-Rome – Actually, the fact that Mariota and JW’s last year #s are similar kind of proves the Joe(s) point. JW was suspended AND benched last season.

  16. Robert Says:

but does he have a record? thats how we know if JBF will love him.

  17. Robert Says:

    anytime something starts with

    “we should be just fine”

    it aint gonna be fine

  18. Jean Lafitte Says:

The only way Breshad Perriman can fill the void is if he can garner the defenses attention and require double coverage. If he is left on an island and can be defended by one defender it’s an epic fail. Where has he been since 2015? So far he doesn’t get that defensive respect at this point in his career. This will affect ME13’s stats this year if none of the receivers can duplicate the intangibles that Djax brought to the game. For as much as JBF may have hated DJax he was the catalyst behind the success for the receiving core. I may end up being proved wrong but to think things look even rosier is fool’s gold.

” to catch hobbled Marcus Mariota’s 12-yard bombs,”
    _____________

Careful Joe………one of your readers got on to me about this. He was probably a Mariota guy when we drafted JW

  20. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Mariotas 12 yard bombs” that’s a funny line. But careful Joe the flocks of the should’ve taken Mariota crowd has lost is strength and they are very sensitive.

  21. EvolvingBucsfan Says:

    Touche Robert….lol

  22. Kyle Says:

im rooting for this kid for sure

  23. Dewey Selmon Says:

I’d still like to know who the schmuck was that was wearing a Bucs Mariotta jersey at Ray Jay the night we drafted Winston. some little kid in Haiti or Africa is wearing it right now.

  24. BucEmUp Says:

I’ll bet anyone $1000.00 he does better in two years than Djax did. C’mon….I needs me some money!!!

  25. BucEmUp Says:

Jean go look up his first year as a rookie. Not just stats but his entire situation. Then he goes to the browns who didn’t have Baker starting until last season and he was playing behind a bunch of weapons. BA and licht will look like geniuses for this signing.

I predict he returns punts for us as well, or at least gets a stab at it.

  26. Robert Says:

    seriously doh.

    brah got wheels and size..

If he down wid GGP, him and crabman could be good.

  27. Cgmaster27v Says:

Drone, Mariota also had a better line ,better defense, and much better running game. That leads to wins, not who they are throwing to. At least use some context with your remarks. And Mariota has been straight awful the last 2 years. Hell James played 8 games last year and still had better stats.

  28. Jean Lafitte Says:

    BucEmUp

    Let’s hope so

  29. Kobe Faker Says:

“We need a dual threat runningback

    Miles sanders or Benny Snell

We need a pass catching rb to loosen the short passing game especially with Hump gone”

    Kobe Faker

  30. Not there yet Says:

Can’t be a bust due to injury, that word is used way too much for people not far along in their career. When I think bust Trent Richardson, Jamarcus Russell. Guy had injures and are unfortunate but I remember Geraldine ending on IR two years in a row and being called a bust, he turned out to be a decent player 😂

  31. Donuts Says:

If Winston has a big year, it will be the result of:

    1. The RG actually touched the DL at the line of scrimmage.
    2. Perriman was able to get separation and Winston was able to put the ball on target.

  32. Loyaltotheend Says:

Didn’t one of the Joes say they don’t hold injuries against a player?

But they are holding injuries against Perriman?

Jameis completed less than 50% of his passes to DJAX this kid is faster and we think they can connect? Come on now, next lie you will tell is that Licht can draft good d linemen and RB’s!!!

  33. Bucsfan77 Says:

I still say the biggest problem with the Djax/Jaboo connection was that Djax wouldn’t put the work in on field to get Jaboo comfortable throwing to his speed, Fitzpatrick already had plenty of throws to him so he knew how much faster his release needed to be. If Perriman puts the work in on field which I know BA will demand it Jaboo will have no issues connecting, plus Perriman is a much bigger target so Jaboo throws won’t have to be on a dime.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Wasn’t Perriman cut from the Redskins last year?

Didn’t the Redskins have the worst group of WR’s in football last year?

I don’t mind the pickup at all, and he might do well as a #3 WR who just runs deep, but it’s still a lottery ticket since you have no idea what you’re going to get.

  35. What the buc Says:

Mariota has one of the lowest yardage through the air averages in the league. The yards per pass aren’t bad because he threw a lot of 3 yard passes that receivers added YAC to. Hump might actually excel in this offence. He surely should get a bunch of targets. Perriman is a low risk high reward guy. Arians has made many different speed receivers look good. Je may be able to do the same with Breshaud.

  36. T REX Says:

Wait till December…half these yokels will be blaming Jaboo’s crap year on perriman. Five wasted years on that crab eating crotch grabbing loser. Almost over.

  37. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Do you ever have a good day, T-REX?
    Hopefully so.

I think this Perriman signing could end up being one that we look back on as being huge. The kid has a new home with people that believe in him.

    Can’t teach 4.19 speed.

  38. Jean Lafitte Says:

the knock on Perriman is that he drops a lot of balls, but he can run fast.

Yeah one (MM) sucks and the other (JW) has had to try to win games with no defense, no running game and no special teams.

  40. Ndog Says:

I just have one question for you Jameis haters. Do you guys actually watch the games?

  41. Ndog Says:

Like you TRex are your arms to short to pick up the remote control to turn the Bucs games on TV?

  42. Buccos Says:

Does anyone remember the first game when Jamie’s played Mariota andMM had like 4 td’s in the first half. Everyone was freaking out that we had picked the wrong guy. I was at that game. It sucked.

  43. Tom T. Says:

Adam Humphries bolting to catch hobbled Marcus Mariota’s 12-yard bombs – 12 yard bombs! I love it! I did a spit take reading that. Good stuff Joe!
