Is Miles Sanders A Fix?

March 4th, 2019

On the heels of drafting Jeremy McNichols and Ronald Jones in the last two drafts, the Bucs still need help at running back whether or not Bucco Bruce Arians 2018 team architect Jason Licht want to believe it.

And that brings Joe to the draft. It sure seems like that’s the right place to upgrade if the Bucs can’t get their hands on possible Saints free agent RB Mark Ingram next week.

More than 20 running backs were drafted last year and it was over 30 the previous season. And this is another year with talent in the draft. Joe will be cruising through a lot of names over the next month, but Miles Sanders out of Penn State is the guy rocketing up draft boards this morning after the NFL Scouting Combine last week.

No, Sanders won’t vault to the top of the running backs class and he’s not going to be a first-round pick. But he’s got loads of athleticism, versatility and polish, and you can catch a glimpse in the compilation below from his performance last week. He sure looks like a starting-caliber guy who could be legit second-round pick. Perhaps he’s there in Round 3.

Sanders has very low mileage on his body after playing behind Saquon Barkley — just 276 carries with a 6-yards-per-carry average — and he was strong given his chance to shine as a first-time starter last year.

Licht has had success drafting out of Penn State, and that somehow could lean the Bucs in Sanders’ direction if they’re willing to admit they need help at the position.

Shaun Wilson will get a look by BA before the draft starting 1 April OTAs for new coaches….that and Devin White can play 3rd down conversion RB and either get b off the field after converting or stay on when the defense takes the field 😉

    “Kobe endorse this pick

Sanders is the 2019 Kareem Hunt

devastating 1 cut and downhill runner. a complete 3 down back.

would love to get him on our 3rd round pick but might be gone ”

He looked darn good at the combine and that recent Penn State RB pedigree is hard to turn a nose up at.

Frank Gore was a tough tough old school RB…at the U he was not as thick as he became as a Pro…but man did that scrawny kid hit hard…he had a great career after recovering from a nasty knee too

Sanders is the 2019 Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt is the 2019 Kareem Hunt but you know….Bucs.

After watching his highlights I like him. Great balance / vision / cut ability. R3 sounds like a good spot if there

  9. Dubcity06 Says:

They better fix the OL if you want a run game. All this talk about DE and DT in the draft, meanwhile, replacing Dotson and Benenoch should be priority number one.

  10. Todd Says:

Use our first three picks for our other needs, then sweep in and steal Devine Ozigbo like a thief in the night. He’ll be there.

Never heard of him? YouTube his 2018 Nebraska highlights and you’ll never forget him.

I just saw ROJO and Jameis playing catch, I really didn’t but I suppose they better be. Peyton Barber will be the Bucs break out player since we are getting a plug and play guard with an attitude (not like Jensen) in the draft. Dotson and Benenoch will be better this year as they compete for the RT position. Better coaching and the infuse of talent through the draft with players that have JPP attitudes on defense and ME attitudes on offense.

Joe gonna keep beating the RB drum. This team failed at running due to poor coaching and team management. With a simple change at RG, better OL coaching, and better run playcalling, the running game will vastly improve with our current RBs. We are not going to spend more draft capital on RB. Miles Sanders would have at the same results as RoJo if placed in the same situation last year. Trust BA and this coaching staff to maximize RoJo”s potential. The kid was a stud in college and a terrific athlete. Just gotta work on those hands. If we draft RB I expect it will be a pass-catching specialist in later rounds, or perhaps UDFA. Ellington will certainly compete too.

    @Altered
? Devin White can play 3rd down running back–NO thanks–get Vita Vea for that role! LOL!-love to see that dude plow through multiple defenders into the promise land.

You MUST be in an altered state after posting that LMFAO

Sanders had exceedingly poor showings against OSU and Michigan. Why such low production? Also, so did Barkley so go figure. He has the physical tools and may be . better pro than in college.

  17. Jonzey Says:

Devin White LB (1), Burns DE (2), Miles Sanders RB (3), Mecole Hardman WR/RS (4), Tyree Jackson QB (5)

  18. Bucfan1988 Says:

I LOVED this guy’s skill set after watching him at the combine!!!

    Very fluid & explosive…

  19. TDTB Says:

Jonzey, I like the targets… but would like to see one or two trade downs for extra picks. Would like to see Max Sharping and Max Cosby in the draft class too.

That combine performance was amazing and six yards per carry is certainly a good sign. He “looks” like the real deal. Wonder how long he will last though. RB’s have surprised me more than any other position in the past couple of drafts. I was shocked that Dalvin lasted as long as he did. I’m not an FSU guy but I wanted him badly although after OJ dropped I was pleased to get him instead.

Still some RB choices have been higher or lower than I expected. I guess that’s what makes the draft entertaining.

All it takes is one QB greedy team to trade up and we have a shot at the “big three” or Oliver or White…both great additions.

The only way I see us trading down is if the staff believes their pick will last until the pick from a trade.
