Beckwith Under Bucs-Supervised Rehab, But Still No Answers

March 25th, 2019

In this case, Joe is certain no news is ugly news.

This is simple: today GM Jason Licht said he has no update on the health of linebacker Kendell Beckwith. It’s the same thing he said a month ago. Beckwith missed all last season after a car accident messed up his ankle.

However, Joe asked if Licht if the Bucs are supervising Beckwith’s rehab. And the GM confirmed the team is … yet there is still no update.

Bucs players report back to work in exactly one week. Joe suspects Beckwith will get a physical with the rest of the guys and the Bucs will have no good news.

What a sad life turn for Beckwith, who had such a promising rookie season in 2017. Joe still has a visual of Beckwith in the locker room back in December, sitting on a chair saying he’s hopeful that he’ll get back to 100 percent eventually and get clearance from team doctors.

    another stellar draft choice

    @buddy

It actually was a good draft choice, a freak accident has no bearing on the draft pick. It’s sad news, he was pretty solid as rookie which would indicate a good draft pick.

  3. John Says:

Maybe they’re with holding the news to not tip off their draft preference Joe. He might be good they just are keeping it close to the vest.

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

we sure could use his talent this season

  5. SteveK Says:

Kid was promising. Big dude with some quicks and liked hitting people.

  6. Tackleblockwin Says:

    @John

I’ve been thinking the same thing. I hope that is the case.

  7. Eric Qualls Says:

Reminds me of Aaron sears all over again

  8. OneBucPerson Says:

Damn, dude’s career potentially getting ended by a freak accident, you hate to see it. I wish him well and hope he has a quick recovery.

  9. Billy Says:

Or he isn’t even close and they aren’t tipping their hand towards Devin White.

Hard to tell. Still don’t like the idea of getting the 4th best DL.
Although they could easily get the best.
He’ll the 20th pick could be the best.

That’s why I say White. Makes a huge difference taking the guessing game out of the equation.

Dude is a bully. Way faster than Kwon, who they let walk.
Easy pick unless Q is there. LMAO. Not happening.

  10. Buc4evr Says:

I guess we will see next week if the Bucs are drafting White. So much promise, he was going to be so much better than Kwon.

  11. SCBucsFan Says:

I know a lot of you posters on this board are so smart that they would not have drafted a guy knowing that he’d be getting in a car accident after his rookie year. So many Bucs fans on this board are a joke. Go get on the Browns bandwagon.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

    :sigh:

    Liar’s Poker.

Believe nothing until after the draft.

  13. DRFEELGOOD Says:

Aaron Sears developed schizophrenia at an age where it usually rears it’s ugly head. Comparing someone with a car accident injury is not the same at all. Beckwith was a stud before the car accident. That’s not Licht’s fault….c’mon!

  14. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

He’s done…unfortunately. I remember predicting this a year ago…much to the dissent of certain pear shaped posters.

  15. Tom S. Says:

To the Licht apologists who want to call LBers who play part of one season before they retire a “good draft choice” because you think the excuse is worthy enough: apparently Cadillac Williams was the best Bucs RB of all-time since his torn patellar tendons are the reason he couldn’t continue at a high level. Apparently Josh Freeman and Arron Sears are the best Bucs QB and Guard of all time since it was their off the field issues that stopped their careers in their early 20’s. Apparently Cody Grimm was one of the best Bucs safeties since he played very well as a rookie until he broke his leg.

The mental midget gymnastics some people have to play to sleep well at night and rationalize for a failed GM are pretty impressive. Second day draft picks who play for less than a full season before they retire are usually considered busts regardless of the reason….unless you’re a Jason Licht fan, in which case style points matter since his atrocious W-L record doesn’t.

  16. Not there yet Says:

Seriously you guys are either dumb or yep nope you believe everything you read online. Licht doesn’t owe the media an explanation but your letting the Joes steer your small brains anywhere he wants. Licht has never drafted LBers high so I hope that continues. I’ll believe he’s done when I hear it from the team website which is not joebucs

Yes, nothing like getting your news a week later than everyone else.

  18. cmurda Says:

I wish that was the case John but I sincerely doubt it. I have to believe that Beckwith’s ankle shattered into thousands of pieces. He required surgery on a broken ankle. That alone is a bad sign. I hope badly for his comeback but I fear the reality is his career itself may be over.

  19. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Jonathan wow u predicted a freak car accident would take him out wow super impressive 😏🤦‍♂️
Or maybe u meant u thought his college injury would come back to bite the bucs in which case ur wrong being again this may be a shock to u he was in a car accident 🤷‍♂️ if he comes back u could still be right but dont get ahead of yourself buddy
BTW if I remember correctly Joe posted the accident broke his other ankle not the one injured in college so again ur still wrong af🤦‍♂️

  20. JA Says:

    @Buddy

    Congrats. It’s confirmed.
You are now, officially, the dumbest person on the face of the earth.
Sorry, Robert. All good things must come to an end …

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Joe, have you considered that Licht could be withholding information so a team believes he will take that LB and try to get ahead of us?

That would be just as good as a QB being taken if it causes Josh Allen to drop a notch.

I am so glad I am not the only one who see’s this!

  23. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Shout out to Haines City High’s very own Hot Rod Allen! How are ya fella? Still a looker I see! Thanks for checking in…

  24. Joe Says:

    another stellar draft choice

Joe apologizes up front. He doesn’t want to insult you. But this is beyond stupid.

How exactly was Jason Licht (or any GM) supposed to predict Beckwith (or any player) will get into a car wreck and ruin his career?

Please explain in great detail how teams are supposed to have a crystal ball to predict auto accidents? If you know the answer, you can retire a very rich man by selling your secrets to sports teams in all leagues.

And if you can predict auto accidents, Joe suspects you can also make a killing selling this information to both cops and insurance companies.

  25. Joe Says:

Joe, have you considered that Licht could be withholding information so a team believes he will take that LB and try to get ahead of us?

Licht already said he would have an announcement about Beckwith. Given how Beckwith hasn’t played in a year and his career is likely kaput, not sure what Licht has to hide.

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    What I don’t understand is…

Why the HELL is this all so secretive????
What possibly could the reason be for that?

Definitely appreciate your efforts, JOE, in getting the answer.

No offense JA, but I think you are giving up on Robert WAYYY too early.
He has worked really hard at this title. How about a little respect?
    😉

  29. bradinator Says:

This certainly sucks. Beckwith has some real potential. I hope we all get a nice surprise and they say he’s almost ready to rumble. That kid worked most of his life for this chance and might lose it to a car accident? Can’t imagine how that feels for him. Maybe the reason they are not telling us anything because it is not a done deal, and at the end of the day, it’s between Beckwith and the team. It’s likely pretty personal for this kid and the team doesn’t want to call it until Beckwith says it’s over.

  30. TOM Says:

I hope he can return & help the Bucs.
