The Arians-DJax Sitdown
February 4th, 2019As new Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians told TMZ last week, he plans to have a sitdown with malcontent Bucs wide receiver DeSean Jackson in the coming days.
There, Arians will learn if there is a way to keep Jackson on the Bucs roster without him melting down again.
Joe doesn’t see any way or hope, and financially it may not make sense either. Jackson’s $10 million salary for 2019 (he can be released without any penalty) could be better used to keep Adam Humphries and buy another receiver.
However, Jackson’s skillset gets an offensive coach like Arians to drool.
A couple of weekends ago, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network mentioned way too many folks are focused on the Steelers’ Antonio Brown, another diva wide receiver who wants out from his team. Garafolo believed the No. 2 NFL offseason story is Jackson and the Bucs, just behind Brown and the Steelers.
The CBS Sports video below interested Joe only because Jackson and Brown are interchangeable. Both, for reasons not quite clear, have had their delicate egos bruised and have lashed out publicly.
Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher explains how he would handle the Brown situation in Pittsburgh. Joe had heard similar responses in Atlanta last week, regarding how the Bucs and Arians should handle Jackson.
Also in the video, Cowher offered something eye-opening. He said for a star player to get to the point of frustration that he plays Operation Shutdown, if he was head coach he partly would have to blame himself for letting relationships between players and the team reach a bitter boiling point like this.
“Hold people accountable,” Cowher said.
How would @CowherCBS handle the current situation between Antonio Brown and the Pittsburgh Steelers?
The former Steelers head coach joined @TikiAndTierney and suggested getting everyone in the same room and asking a simple question, “can we move past this?” pic.twitter.com/l8GcgV2noF

This franchise can’t donthat because they haven’t accomplished anything and getting Winston and Jackson in a room will just reveal how weak Jackson is. But coach he can’t get me the ball and I’m running for nothing
February 4th, 2019 at 1:44 pm
Weak organizations like bucs create malcontents or career losers who quit and lose quietly like cancer93 but they never create winners.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:06 pm
lost cause. I wish D Jax well.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:13 pm
We need to get rid of Jackson,Gholston, Grimes, McCoy …
February 4th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
Either way, Arians will NOT..put up with Djax’s antics. I’m kinda hopin Jackson is gone. But you never can tell. He may want to play for arians after their sit down.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:21 pm
Buh, Bye.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:28 pm
He’s not going to be here.
Or to use Me-Jax’s grammar skills, “He gon.”
February 4th, 2019 at 2:32 pm
You and the Bucs need to STOP WITH THE D-JAX BS, Joe!!! Is anyone really interested or want him back next year??? It would be the dumbest move in Bucs history to pay a second #2 WR $10,000,000. Jameis doesn’t play well with short guys unless they’re short Hump type routes. D-Jax cries when he doesn’t get the deep ball for his chip and dip commercials. WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY!!! Entire backup defense needs to be wiped out and refurbished with experienced vets. Need to pay Hump. This WR corp is still stacked without this locker room MRSA case.
February 4th, 2019 at 2:58 pm
@Bill Cowher … “Hold people accountable.” Novel idea. The Bucs should try it.
February 4th, 2019 at 3:02 pm
Kind of getting tired of all things DJAX. Think he needs to go. All mouth no production, big bucks, and locker room distraction. Unlike the other WR’s, TE’s he’s the only one that can’t work with Jameis. In my book in this case you get rid of the WR and find another target for your QB. I want to hear about talks between Arians and OL, DL, and RB’s. DJAX is not going to win 5 more games for us in 2019.
February 4th, 2019 at 3:06 pm
MeJax is worse than Goddell
February 4th, 2019 at 3:16 pm
The “head case” part of the equation is only a very small part.
DJAX is simply no longer worth ten million to the Bucs or most NFL teams…perhaps the Rams and he might give them a deal.
That’s the only deal..perhaps the Pats that makes sense for BOTH DJAX and the team he’d be going to.
After watching Edelman last night I thought we MUST sign Hump. He has a similar game. As JW settles down and becomes even more effective Hump chemistry with #3 will provide even mor opportunity. He’s already here and puts up numbers just as good as DJAX.
No he’s not a burner but he’s not afraid of the middle and has better hands than DJAX…and he will actually throw a block…imagine DJAX blocking or doing anything dangerous or physical.
At this point in time…Hump is much younger and is as productive as DJAX and does more things. DJAX has fielded 8 punts in the past five years and just ONE kickoff. He is the very definition of a one trick pony.
Hump has fielded 51 punts the past three years. He’s not a threat to take it to the house but he has guts and has averaged more than five yards more per return than DJAX.

Djax says …Bring Fits back !1
February 4th, 2019 at 3:27 pm
rather use that 10mil to sign a DE….frank clark please…..
#REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!
February 4th, 2019 at 3:58 pm
Wow…..I’m thrilled, another multiple Djax article day.
February 4th, 2019 at 4:05 pm
Humphries is more valuable than Jackson.
Look at how the Pats used Edelman. Not saying Hump is the equivalent, but they are used in a similar fashion: tough, great hands, quick especially from the slot and hard to cover.
Jackson can stretch the field. He is a luxury, but not the grinder the team needs.
February 4th, 2019 at 4:08 pm
@TBBF
I suspect you just made Joe’s day. I feel pretty certain he’s here to thrill you. LOL
I get the DJAX fatigue but it doesn’t bother me anymore than “America’s QB”. That doesn’t bother me like it seems it does others.
So Joe has candidly confessed he posts what interests him. It’s HIS site and so I got no problem with that.
He doesn’t miss the big stories so whatever fluff or frosting he adds is fine with me.
So posters it’s the down time in the NFL. March 1st at least we’ll have the start of the Combine…until then….what are the BIG stories.
IMHO it’s a tie between what happens to DJAX and what happens to GMC. Joe has covered both very well.
February 4th, 2019 at 4:14 pm
Joe’s not about to ignore the biggest story of the offseason and what Mike Garafolo called the No. 2 NFL story of the offseason: The DJax saga.
Joe doesn’t believe in ignoring big stories. That’s for other local outlets to do.
And judging by the traffic Joe has had over the past decade, it appears readers like if not appreciate Joe’s news judgment.
February 4th, 2019 at 4:17 pm
Let D Jax go he is an excellent w.r. if #3 could get him the ball every time he was open we would have probably made the playoffs we have the dumbest fan base in the NFL it’s embarrassing to be a Bucs fan sometimes watch him light up defences with a deep ball throwing QB which #3 Is not he is a short to intermediate rythem passer not a deep passer D Jax hates losing and he knows he could have made a difference if given the opportunity but it’s not all on #3 though our o line sucks but #3 played a major role as well Good Luck D Jax hopefully where ever you go you won’t be on our schedule
February 4th, 2019 at 4:46 pm
Joe
It’s not like I don’t really like the JBF articles and posts, but these constant DJax articles only piss people off and are boring cus it’s the same shoot different day. I know this is the hardest time of the year to get info on the team and what direction there plan’s might be, but I myself would be more interested in articles about a ton of other things. Maybe young player potential, more complex ways to make this a winning team (I always talk about wiping out the defensive depth), good FA and trade possibilities that could be made even if there not top tier players, etc. I’m not trying to be offensive at all and like I said I’m a JBF lover so no way trying to tell you how to do your job, just putting in my two cents of other things I’d like to hear from a good Bucs reporter like yourself.
February 4th, 2019 at 4:57 pm
I guess they bother me because they are so negative and repetitive….negative because Djax is so negative……and, I’m hardly the only one who feels that way……I don’t expect legitimate stories to be ignored at all…..but some of this is certainly overkill….and that is IMHO….so, I respectfully await the next one….hopefully not today.

if the bucs were NOT such a negative organization from top to bottom they would not turn players into malcontents. djax is not the problem the bucs organization is the problem and that has NOT changed.
February 4th, 2019 at 5:10 pm
And No. 2 NFL story of the offseason? Ha. Come on. How about 1. Antonio Brown, 2. Le’Veon Bell, 3. Kareem Hunt, 4. Refs and rules. Bucs having no money and contemplating on keeping a cry baby second #2 WR is far from it.
February 4th, 2019 at 5:54 pm
Dam it my brothers at it again with gmc93 ughhhh just stop
February 4th, 2019 at 6:25 pm
I kinda want DJAX back to hear the Joes cry even more than they already do about him
February 4th, 2019 at 6:34 pm
How Arians handles DJax is going to be a big step in my belief that things will get better. Jackson needs to go, and keeping him would only end in more bad water.
Remember, this is all because Winston told his new agent that he would not sign with him unless he dumped Jackson as a client.
It’s personal between the two at this point, and there is no way Jackson plays hard for Winston…well…actually he won’t play hard for anyone. Never has.

At this point, we don’t even know if we need another DE. It might have to be a LB, depending on the scheme, right?
February 4th, 2019 at 7:36 pm
If DeJax wants his 10mil he will tell BA what he wants to hear. If not he’ll take his chances with another team. Now please lets get off this sore subject.
February 4th, 2019 at 8:12 pm
TOM
I’m really hoping BA isn’t so naive to be mind handled by a punk such as Jackson.
February 4th, 2019 at 9:36 pm
He wears his welcome out wherever he goes. Move on.
February 4th, 2019 at 9:40 pm
Tmax, there is no comparison to DJax and Gmac. One is a spoiled malcontent that thinks only of himself, the other is a multiple pro bowl team first player.
February 4th, 2019 at 10:02 pm
Kick tmax out of here joe
February 4th, 2019 at 10:31 pm
Trade him to buffalo for a 7th rounder
February 4th, 2019 at 11:01 pm
Let’s give it up on Gerald McCoy, I used to be one of those people that never understand the hate that he got and that’s because he USED to be a great player for the Bucs.
I still don’t understand the hate but at some point the Bucs have to make a football decision and realize that the play from him is not good enough anymore. The sack stat sheet might be good enough but the film is certainly not. It’s time to part ways.
February 5th, 2019 at 7:26 am
#1bucsfan
Kick tmax out? Why, because his opinion differs from yours?
What are you afraid of?
There are alot of opinions he expresses that are 100% diametrically opposite of mine… but so what?
Don’t be afraid. No need to cover your eyes.
tmax is Bucs fan family too.
