Jonah Williams Clarification

February 28th, 2019

Off day.

One of the cool things about Twitter is it offers observations. The downside is, observations can be faulty.

Today, Joe was monitoring the many offensive linemen who took to the various podiums at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis as part of the NFL combine.

One lineman that caught Joe’s eye was this Jonah Williams of Alabama. What grabbed Joe’s attention was his glum demeanor. Most of the time, these college prospects are totally geeked about the combine process. But Williams seemed to be dreading it, like he was pulling a Bill Belicheat impression. Williams’ face just screamed, “Let me go home!”

Joe mentioned that Williams’ body language was so bad, it reminded Joe of Jay Cutler. Yes, really.

Well, Joe later spoke with someone who would know about Williams. Let’s just say this guy may be the most plugged-in college reporter out there. He told Joe that Williams was just very uncomfortable with the scene today but he did agree Williams seemed like he was looking to escape.

Joe can sort of understand it might be a bit intimidating to be marched to a podium and all of a sudden have dozens of strangers pounding you with all sorts of questions machine-gun style.

Joe was told by the same source that Williams is generally an agreeable guy and rarely is hostile to anything. He was just having a bummer of a day.

So let this post be a clarification of Joe’s Twitters. Williams’ may have had awful body language today, but that apparently is not his normal self.

He’s apparently had great interviews with white board sessions and such. I can deal with guys who have a fear of being under the microscope, and considering he’s a tackle prospect who has also been projected to be a guard this is a guy who the Bucs can use

hmmm…typical part of the top draft picks combine /draft prep is professional coaching on what to say,how to say it and what not to say.

  3. Todd Says:

    No. He sucks.

Horrible showing. He’s going to drop like a dead weight.

All the way to our second round pick! 😉

Go with the “He SUCKS” narrative Joes.

    Please.

  4. SOEbuc Says:

Don’t care about what he looks like at the podium, just what he looks like on the field. But I sure as hell don’t want him inside the first 10 picks for the Bucs anyway. WHITE ALL THE WAY TO TAMPA BAY!!!!!!!

  5. Jimmy Says:

I only want this guy or Taylor if we trade down first. They’re not worth pick 5.

  6. StoutGospel Says:

And this has WHAT TO DO with his play ON THE FIELD??? Or Saban recruiting him??? Or him being a versatile Tackle at the 33rd team of the NFL????

    Nuttin!

    Go Bucs!

  7. Darin Says:

Dont blame him. I’d hate that too. Just need football players not talkers. Having said that I’d prefer Taylor over him and not at 5 like Jimmy said. Although Jimmy they could be “worth” it. A LT who can start right away and play well is worth it. Especially when u look at how much less they’d make than 14 mil a year. I hope for a trade down again. Well i really hope for Josh Allen but a trade up to 3 is gona cost 3 second rounders prob. Lets add picks this draft looks pretty talented in the first 100 picks or so.

  8. PSLBob Says:

WTF cares about this guy’s demeanor at his first press conference.

  9. westernbuc Says:

I don’t care how any of these guys are at the podium, don’t care how coaches talk to reporters, all that is irrelevant. The only thing I care about is ability and availability.

I can’t help but think of the old saying..”Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane”. Not necessarily about Williams but this entire combine. Enough with the underwear stuff…I’ll be impressed when they actually start hitting. For all I know Williams may be the real deal…seeing him at the podium won’t reveal it though.

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

Bama fan here and I say he is a 2nd round pick

  12. Jeff Says:

If he falls to the 2nd round, sure. #5 for a right tackle, no way. Go ahead and draft another kicker if you think this is the way to go. Energy, leadership, tough against adversity. This dude had none of that.

  13. firethecannons Says:

agree NO with the #5 pik–trade down and get Devin White
