Young QB Vs. Older WR
January 31st, 2019One thing Bucs malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson said in his explosive appearance on the “Simms and Lefkoe Podcast” this week didn’t set in Joe’s craw very well.
(“‘Not CRAW‘ but the ‘Craw!'”)
In part, DJax claimed one reason he and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, couldn’t get on the same page is younger quarterbacks have too much of a work ethic and don’t know when to lay off on the gas as older wide receivers don’t need to work hard.
Well, that didn’t fly a few years ago when Jameis came into the league. Jameis had the same intense work ethic then and the Bucs had an established stud wide receiver who, like DJax, was on the wrong side of 30. That was Vincent Jackson.
Now Vincent Jackson may not have had good stats his last two years; mainly that was because his knees were just about shot. You didn’t hear him whine about Jameis not knowing when to lay off the gas or to tone down the hard work. In fact, Vincent Jackson loved Jameis.
Whenever Jackson was asked about Jameis, his face would light up. The two were tight.
So don’t give Joe or Bucs fans this nonsense that Jameis doesn’t know how to work with older receivers. He learned and knew how to play with older receivers in his very first days with the Bucs, and he didn’t have anyone running to FS1 or any national podcast to cry about how much he wants to play for the Rams.
January 31st, 2019 at 3:41 pm
One player wants to win, no matter what. One player wants stats, no matter what. Young v old isn’t the issue.

What does D Jax have in common with Allen Iverson?
1) Neither thought practice was important.
2) Neither won a championship.

I hope DJax goes away so the three stories a day with no new information go away.
We all get it, DJax is a punk. Lets hope someone thinks our trash is treasure and offers us a cooler of gatorade.
January 31st, 2019 at 3:50 pm
It’s about accuracy and the receivers build
Vincent Jackson was big bodied receiver like Mike Evans and Jameis is not good at hitting smaller targets in stride in space it’s just a fact. He’s good with hitting big targets with wide catch radius’s like Vincent Jackson Evans Howard Brate and Godwin
DJAX has always been best used with accurate qbs who hit him in stride and let him get YAC
Even when Jameis hits Hump he rarely has room to run after the catch
Expecting DJAX to dive for over throws or grow 4 inches is idiotic from fans
January 31st, 2019 at 3:56 pm
This article is basically proving Desean Jackson’s point, which is hilarious since it was supposed to be pro-Jameis propaganda.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:01 pm
@Loyal
Howard has seen Winston thread the needle to Humphreys and Godwin for some pretty spectacular catches. Neither of them are big, especially Humpreys….false analogy is false
January 31st, 2019 at 4:02 pm
Loyaltotheend, that’s why hump isn’t very productive right? Oh wait…
January 31st, 2019 at 4:03 pm
Winston is no Drew Brees but his accuracy is over criticized
January 31st, 2019 at 4:06 pm
Joe, I just heard that Djax is mad and he’s going to do rebuttal
to JoeBucsFans slander on the “Simms and Lefkoe Podcast”
January 31st, 2019 at 4:06 pm
Seems to hit Adam Humphries just fine. Used to him Donteaa Dye (who couldn’t catch) and Dye is tiny.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:06 pm
@Howard
Godwin is 6’2” pretty decent size with a larger catch radius than the 5’9” djax
@Rich
Is that of Hump’s doing? Or cus he’s not double because of all of th other weapons? Again if Jameis could hit him in stride or lead him with throws he’d be even more productive. The tape doesn’t lie
January 31st, 2019 at 4:06 pm
Djax mad bro Lol
January 31st, 2019 at 4:07 pm
There always needs to be a villain.
First it was EDS…..Then ASJ……Then Swaggy Baker……now Djax……who’s next?
Getting really tired of the daily multiple articles on DJax…..he simply isn’t worth it.

@tampabaybucfan
Remember it’s always someone else’s fault never Jameis’s
January 31st, 2019 at 4:24 pm
Let MeSean tell Bruce Arians he doesn’t want to practice.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:29 pm
I’m still waiting and NOBODY has an answer.
Just how do posters here think we can trade DJAX?
First every NFL GM in the league is aware of this situation and that we will dump DJAX by this spring…I think they have until March to decide…I may be mistaken…LUV can confirm or deny.
At any rate it’s clear the divorce is imminent and the Bucs are not going to waste ten million on him.
So AGAIN…how does DJAX have any trade value? At this point he is fundamentally a free agent.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:34 pm
Vincent Jackson was big bodied receiver like Mike Evans and Jameis is not good at hitting smaller targets in stride in space it’s just a fact.
It’s a fact if Adam Humphries is big bodied to you! We’ve always had veteran receivers on this team and not one of them have ever had this complaint. D jack worried about this unspoken rule between quarterbacks but no one other than he and Vick are talking about it because even if it’s true it’s a stupid wussy thing to admit. All the time off players have and as tough as the new league laws are on practice in gerneral I would say this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. For those with no speed who don’t know, taking it easy on Friday won’t save your freaking speed when it’s gone it’s gone. This simply why he’s a one trick pony and why he can’t win anything because it’s really not as important. Tired of all the guys reading the stat sheet in this locker room instead of looking at wins and losses.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:43 pm
Jackson is a lazy s.o.b. who thinks his sh*t don’t stink. F*ck this guy.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:50 pm
C’mon man, you are smarter than that. All it takes is one desperate team (Chucky).
Of course he has little trade value. All it takes is one team. One guy.
Don’t be naive. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? Hell, no.
Shoot, the Bucs traded Aqib Talib and he had more baggage than Jackson.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:51 pm
@ not there yet
Hump and DJax run different routes over the last few years, fact. Besides JW doesn’t lead or hit Hump in stride if so his numbers would be amazing
Hump is always stopping to make a catch or reaching backwards or above to grab these catches
Look at the film
January 31st, 2019 at 4:55 pm
Not sure what body size has to do with anything. DJax didn’t invoke his body size, he stated young quarterbacks cannot work with veteran receivers is why he cannot get connect with Jameis. That’s just BS as Joe detailed.
But feel free to keep yourself up at night worried about dudes’ bodies.
January 31st, 2019 at 4:57 pm
the thing is, older wrs should be willing and wanting to work with his young qb just like vjax did so the timing would be on…..
maybe if djax gave full effort during practice, winston wouldnt have to have extra reps after practice going full speed…..
@joe, enough with djax!!!!!!!….you’ve raked him thru the coals and rightfully so…..we know how much of a cancer and diva he was…..
lets start talking about his potential replacements….bobo…watson….someone in the draft….
#REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!
January 31st, 2019 at 4:58 pm
It should be noted that DJax wants to go to the Rams where the QB is younger than Jameis
January 31st, 2019 at 5:14 pm
^ It should be noted that DJax is a dumb-ass and a pansy.
January 31st, 2019 at 5:23 pm
MeSean Jackson runs 2 patterns where he is a focal point. The go route and the post route. That’s it. Sure he catches the occasional square out or slant but his main bread and butter is two routes. How many times have you seen him take a short pass to the house? Almost never. ONE TRICK PONY who is a name only player. Twice a year he hits the lottery with that big play TD and then virtually nothing. He’s just not a consistent player in todays NFL. Cut bait.
January 31st, 2019 at 5:25 pm
Joe it’s obvious Djax just doesn’t like Jamies and will make up any stupid excuse to justify why he is not happy playing with Jamies because you can’t flat out say what you really feel IRL without consequences
That being said, joe you talk about all this hard work and effort puts into practice, so how come he’s turned the ball over the most times 76 since he’s entered the league???
If Jamies practice so hard, why can’t he adjust to defenses in the second half???
If Jamies practices so hard, how come he can’t read a play clock?????
If Jamies practices so hard, why is his situational awareness still below average??
Face it Joe, Desean Jackson was right, only thing that matters is the results on the field Gameday
Which is why more people outside of Tampa bay respect desean Jackson’s skill more than they do Jamies
Suck on that
January 31st, 2019 at 5:27 pm
I see AOC is missing her village idiot………………
January 31st, 2019 at 5:29 pm
vjax is great for veterans and I will always respect that but he just another list of vets that retired on glazers dime without a single meaningful win as a buc
January 31st, 2019 at 5:29 pm
@ St. Pete
The only way we really can trade Djax is if there is a team out there that doesn’t want him to hit the open market…….a trade for a late round pick could assure that team gets Djax.
So why simply cut him…….he could also be traded on draft day to move up a few spots in a later round.
He has some value to someone.
January 31st, 2019 at 5:30 pm
Please no more D Jax stories already! Write about anything just not him I’m so ready for this to be over with!

Jamies has doomed the Buccaneers to having mediocre NON-EXPLOSIVE NON-ELECTRIFYING receivers (Mike Evans gets shut down by shutdown cornerbacks)
No receiver that’s actually great in the open market will want to play for the Bucs
Unless of course… THEYRE JUST DOING IT FOR THE PAYCHECK!!!!!!!
January 31st, 2019 at 6:06 pm
@7423,
Future President? Not a chance.
Keep your grubby paws off my hard earned dough losers!

Everyone having fun this past decade booting talented players to the curb, because they can’t produce or ‘don’t fit our culture’, only to turn around and watch them win elsewhere?
I don’t know where we all get off acting like we’re too good for them.. when history only proves the opposite. We just don’t have the leadership and coaching to harness/direct that talent.
Everyone enjoy the game this weekend, and the 3 former 1st round Bucs playing in it.
… but you’re right, we were too good for those guys!
January 31st, 2019 at 6:23 pm
@Joe
Larger receivers have a bigger catch radius and wingspan so QB’s don’t have to be as accurate. That’s why Jameis has success with those previously mentioned and not as much with the smaller DJAX on similar routes to those larger guys.
If Koetter and staff had DJAX on routes like Hump he’d be more successful here
Good chat stay classy

Is this constant slamming of DJax intended to boost his trade value? Just wondering…

January 31st, 2019 at 7:01 pm
So those of you on here ripping Jameis seriously are supporting a guy that is flat admitting he doesn’t want to practice hard to improve his connection with his QB and he is also admitting the QB wanted to work hard on fixing the issue and you are still blaming the QB. And you wonder why you are called haters? Your more clueless than I ever thought.
January 31st, 2019 at 7:53 pm
7423,
They always start somewhere and end up somewhere else. Thats why Gruber called you dumbsh*ts stupid. They lie and you believe it.
January 31st, 2019 at 7:54 pm
@Joe and TBBF
While I certainly accept your points and especially if a team did not want him to hit the open market…I just do not believe he’s worth ten million.
I certainly get Joe’s point about it only taking ONE team…somebody with more money than brains in the GM office but I thought the Bucs had the monopoly on that. Chucky is pretty dang weird though and if for some reason he falls in love with DJAX perhaps?
Other than fearing he will get ten million on the open market there is absolutely no reason to fear losing DJAX for a team that wants him.
I can pretty much guarantee that a SB contender like the Rams or Pats could get him in an open market for far less than ten million. Licht was that ONE GM who grossly overpaid DJAX…there may be another but I remain very skeptical.
If Licht gets a draft pick for DJAX in any round I will commend his efforts.
January 31st, 2019 at 7:56 pm
Just wait til DJax goes on the Miko podcast.

ahh.. let’s see, perennial pro bowl wide out AND future Hall of Famer AND one of the best deep threats in HISTORY of the NFL versus a turnover prone QB with a losing record! Hmmm… let me think, whose fault is this. Only the Joes(read Lee) and the Winston homers on this site would side with the inferior talent.

It seems that a good majority of posters have a preconceived notion of the type of players they want, coaches too. The hardworking, intimidating all business, mean nasty grinder is basically a 1960’s fictional character . I mention this because DJAX is not unique in how he approaches the game. In fact, DJAX is more the norm than the exception.
The problem with running him and a long list guys prior to him is it’s surrendering

The hardworking, intimidating all business, mean nasty grinder is basically a 1960’s fictional character . I mention this because DJAX is not unique in how he approaches the game. In fact, DJAX is more the norm than the exception.
The problem with running him and a long list guys prior to him is it’s surrendering . Yet there seems to be no shortage of fans who have their white flag waving while simultaneously bemoaning DJAX lack of effort or something. ….The behavior is equivalent. .yet buc fans seem oblivious to this twist of fate. Loser DJAX meet quitter Buc fan…phucd up but rather humorous too.
So DJAX has a problem with Winston’s inability to be a pro. That’s what’s he is saying….and it’s
not new info …but DJAX is everything bad and destroyed the locker room and must be driven from obp. Never to mentioned again. If you believe that. …you’re not much if any different and probably worse ..with the delusional thoughts and all….
There’s one thing that is not right ……..Joe 1 or Joe 2 if I recall correctly wrote more than once that winston and DJax were working on and having success in training camp. Jameis doesn’t have a problem connecting with DJax on the long throws. Preseason Winston was lights out and he didn’t have problems with connecting with DJax. Again, Joe a or b was quick to point this out, but now it’s like it never happened. Point is, Winston and DJax were all the same track but they both managed to get themselves off track , in Winston’s case it was a detour and he seems back on and DJax he is still off but he isnt that far away from the tracks.
Wth …cut Jax and next year that dude will be in Tampa playing for the chip.
February 1st, 2019 at 8:28 am
Fitz had no issue connecting with Djax.. ..i guess accuracy in a qb’s passing counts…,maybe
February 1st, 2019 at 8:34 am
Lol, mesean is definitely no hall of famer. He’ll be cut sooner or later, he’s a disgrace to the game. Doesn’t attend offseason programs, ditches OTAs, sleeps in meetings, no effort in practice and no effort in games. It will be a perfect boot out the door if the Bucs give #11 back to Humphries.
February 1st, 2019 at 8:35 am
DJax is an awesome talent but has always been a problem and disruptive. Just a shame they can’t trade him and get a pick or two
