GMC Good With New Defense

January 18th, 2019

Embraces change.

It seems few segments of the population like to produce vague social media posts like NFL players.

(Joe doesn’t give a damn about NBA players and honestly has little time to follow other professional athletes around like a Labrador puppy and won’t stoop to the level of stalking children on the internet — following college athletes. So Joe could be off base here singling out NFL players.)

Whenever malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson is upset about something, he turns to Instagram with cryptic poems or sayings. Damn if Joe knows what he’s getting at.

Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has joined the fray. Earlier this week GMC posted a foreboding social media post. Joe isn’t sure what GMC is getting at.

Joe knows GMC sounded after the final game of the 2018 season as if he had played his last game with the Bucs. He is due $13 million next season but it is not guaranteed.

Of course, GMC is looking at his 6th coach in 11 seasons if he returns to the Bucs. Is GMC mentally preparing himself for a new coach, a new defensive coordinator, a new defensive line coach, a new defensive scheme, a new team or retirement?

Or is GMC preparing for a new career? Remember when he appeared on “Hard Knocks” in what looked like a staged dinner scene with teammates and admitted he’d like to try his hand at acting after his football days were finished.

Now earlier this morning, GMC clarified his Twitter by saying he’s ready to rock and roll with whatever defense new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles wants to use.

Joe was thinking about it, and with the new defensive coaches, GMC may finally be working with the best set of NFL defensive coaches he’s ever worked with. It will be fun to see what GMC can do with a guy who knows the ropes with NFL defensive linemen.

    Keep GMC! Trade D-Jax!

  2. tmaxcon Says:

cancer93 is a garbage fraud now his changing his tune after being called out for being a selfish me first clown.. he is washed up and a locker cancer. get this bum off the roster and give these kids a chance to be great without being held back by weak, declining career losers.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

GMC is looking at his 6th coach in 11 seasons

cancer93 runs coaches off faster than loser lovie smith burnt through offensive and defensive coordinators during his failed tenure as a nfl coach. what do they both have in common Christian frauds

  4. Jonzey Says:

Facts Bucfan3, Let Jackson, Grimes and Curry keep McCoy

  5. TexBuc Says:

At 13M I would be flexible in whatever my boss wanted to adjustment my job description.

  6. Buc believer Says:

GMC will try his hand at acting?….. He’ll the dude should already get a Academy award, he has been acting like a professional football player for years and has a TON of people fooled!

  7. RyJo Says:

GMC is a class act. I do, however, think his time here is coming to an end. The Bucs are in win-now mode (although, aren’t they always?) under a new regime and have a lot of holes on the roster to fill. The money we save by trading GMC could potentially go to 2-3 other players to create a more solid overall roster.

You don’t have to hate GMC to believe that trading him is in the best interests of the organization.

  8. Brandon Says:

He can be a very valuable piece as a 3 tech or 5 in this D. JJ Watt is moved all around the Houston front and does well with it. McCoy is no Watt but a good coach schemes players to find good matchups. Between, McCoy, Vea, JPP, and Nassib, these are some good players that bring very unique skillsets that can be used to exploit weaknesses. None of these players are complete. They all bring a specific skill set that can give certain types of opposing players fits.

  9. Ray Rice Says:

“Either you can play football or you can’t. PERIOD”!!

Well that’s the same $hiit I’ve been saying about you for a long time Geraldine McBooty. Everyone argued in your favor that you were triple teamed all game and you had no help etc. But the reality is, either you make plays or not. Simple. And man….YOU…. DEFINITELY….DON’T….BYE!

  10. Brandon Says:

It would be worth the risk to try to restructure. Cut his salary in half and allow him to make back the rest in incentives. I don’t think he’ll get much better than that in the open market.

    GMC is a class act.

if cancer93 was a class act he would not have quit and ran off every coach he has played for, if he was a class act he would not pout like a little beotch when he is not the center of attention, if he was a class act he would not quit during games

cancer93 is far from a class act he is nothing more than a career losing locker room cancer. the results speak for themselves.

  12. Stokes963 Says:

I love the hate for McCoy. Let him go make the pro bowl for another team. We dont need him. How did Beau Allen and Curry work out this season?

  13. JimmyJack Says:

I don’t think McCoy fits into this defense no more.

The guys we brought in last year are all physical players. McCoy is a finesse guy.

The days of building around McCoy are finally over. We might be wise to outright release McCoy. There is a greater chance of getting a better impact by spending that $$ elsewhere…..rather then pay Gerald whose style don’t mesh well with his teammates.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Stokes963

pro bowls are meaningless in a team sport. that is his only goals individual meaningless awards while not helping his team or making his teammates better. garbage player and a fraud as a man.

  15. Dooshlarue Says:

    Gummy sure can talk.

  16. ATrain Says:

Trade him for a number one or a second and third
Surely the Bucs can get that for an elite DT

  17. catcard202 Says:

There is ~$50M+ in additional cap space that can be opened with cuts, trade bait & restructuring of GMC…Which would give TB all the cap room they need to refine the roster & resign key core players.

Cut/Not Resign list = $40.55M in cap space, before signing/drafting replacements
    Grimes = $7M
    DJax = $10M
    Curry = $8M
    B.Allen = $5M
    Dotson = $4.8M
    Unrein = $3.75M
    E.Smith = $2M

Trade candidate Brate = $7M…potential for ~$6M in 2019 cap space (after draft pick contract 2019 obligation)

    Restructuring GMC to new 2yr $20M, @ 65% guaranteed…
Opens $3m in 2019 cap space & GMC gets $13M he’s due from original deal, at minimum…(This seems 100% reasonable for a future HOF DT, that can then retire after being key DEF face of franchise for a his career.)

  18. Smashsquatch Says:

“I’m sorry Ben…” mid sack was the final straw for me. GMC is a great guy, the kind of guy you want your daughter to bring home. He’s just not the guy you go into combat with. Overhaul the coaching staff, check, blow up the defense, next….

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hey Tmaxcon……how ’bout another 8 or 10 more posts on GMC……we really love the repetition.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    catcard202

Who is this hall of fame dt you mentioned????

His own mother knows his not a hall of famer dude. You really have low standards

  21. orlbucfan Says:

GMC deserves to play in ONE (at least) playoff game before he calls it quits. 6 Friggin’ HCs in 11 years?????? GMC deserves the Medal of Honor and Patience for putting up with this crap! So do we true fans. Either that or we need to get our collective heads examined! tminusnobrains.com, get lost.

  22. tmaxcon Says:

    orlbucfan

Granny that fool deserves an ISIS vacation not another year…. hope you are in good health

  23. Danny Says:

I wouldn’t pay him $13 million. Restructure the deal to make more sense. Running off good defensive players doesn’t make sense

  24. Bill Mauer Says:

Some of you people have way to much time on your hands

  25. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Code for: Keep me on for 13mil, por favor. 100 mil and counting for ol’ 93.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

Danny what if the Bucs can swing a trade for Patrick Peterson?

And what if they need to clear some cap room to afford Peterson. If they cut Gerald for that purpose it would make a lot of sense to me.

  27. MIke F Says:

It’ll be neat to see GMC and other good Buc players finally in a situation for success.

I blame everything on the guy who sells popcorn in the 200 level at Ray Jay for all of the Bucs’ misery.

Certainly, it has not been ownership and their cheap hires!

Blame everything but the real cause.

  28. The Buc Realist Says:

Its time to let the phony player walk!!!!!!!!!! They blew it last year when they could have fooled another team that gmc still had value to trade for picks!!!!! But no!!!!! Once again they tried to build around mr softy!!!!!!! and once again it failed!!!!!!!!! Huge ongoing error that the very high ups have been determined to crowbar him into the stupid ring of honor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the fact that he says embracing change when he complained and half-azz it when Coach schiano wanted to run stunts because it was best for the team!!!!!!!!! Then last year how did gmc get most of his sacks!!!!! off of stunts and twists!!!!!! Where was the embrace change when the last D-coordinator tried to run some 3-4 fronts!!!!!!!!!!!!! or did he complain to the higher ups and we never saw 3-4 fronts again and just a defunct scheme that was best for gmc but not the team!!!!!!!!!! The guy is a clown!!!!!!!!! and the fact that they sheep want to see another year of decline is embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will give answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Kalind Says:

13mil reasons to like the new D

  30. SOEbuc Says:

Nooo. GMC cannot play a complete game and he’s getting $13 million. He either makes a good effort on a few plays and then is gassed the rest of the game, or he straight up doesn’t do anything. Stops long before the whistle is blown.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

you fools think 2-6 in the playoffs is glory years so why would it be any different with a career losing dt…

  32. Not there yet Says:

Oh my goodness really joe? You want to see what he can do with ANOTHER coach lol you to experiment with 13 mil to see if he can make a transition instead of getting a guy in the draft who’s done it lol ok. He’s below average in a 4-3 so why waste time in a 3-4. He doesn’t play the run well and gets tossed all over the field. I don’t see this guy holding up multiple blockera

  33. Gruden4President Says:

In GMAC We Trust! Go Bucs

  34. tmaxcon Says:

    Gruden4President Says:

In GMAC We Trust! Go Bucs

that is the same as saying “In Basement Titles we Trust”

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- LMAO! Don’t burst a blood vessel bro. We don’t know what they’re going to do with him yet. The film is out there. We got production from the DE spot and yet, his production remained the same.
I don’t think he’s a bad player by any means but I think he needs a change of scenery. We have to rid ourselves of this culture of losing. Sometimes that means jettisoning good players.
You’re going to need lots of whiskey if they retain him!

  36. Lord Cornelius Says:

McCoy’s $13M can buy us a legit #1 CB or an elite O-lineman or a starting caliber CB and starting caliber O-lineman.

I’d make that swap all day considering this draft is loaded at pass rushing DTs.

Ed Oliver is only 21 lol. Give me that freak next to Vea for 10+ years.

  37. Widerightandleft Says:

    Tmaxcon;,
Youre sounding like a hater that didnt get an autograph dude.
WTF If youre such a Bucs insider and you KNOW all the B.S you spout get yourself a sports reporter job and get proof of the B.S you spout.
You probably think every DL should be SAPP.
Sorry to say hes a once in a lifetime player.McCoy has been better than average and good for the community.
I will bet that growing up playing football in your neighborhood that if the game didnt go your way ,you took the ball and went home. Shutup dude.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

There is one reason and one reason only people hate Gerald McCoy so much. It’s because Gerald smashed their dreams.

They heard Reginald Roundtree call Mcoy “Sapp 2.0” and they bit down hard. They believed every little word of it and they had wet dreams all summer over Gerald.

But Gerald was not Sapp. Slowly and painfully the dreamers realized this…….Now they hate McCoy because of this…..they should hate themselves for their foolish fantasies but it is easier to come here and lash out towards their own fans that didn’t get hurt like they did.

They find others here who got hurt by the same dreamy McCoy fantasy and they call us the sheep. The McCoy haters are the most ignorant of all Buc fans. Barely debatable.

  39. Widerightandleft Says:

    Catcard202;
Agree with all except ,curry, restructure him.

  40. Widerightandleft Says:

    Jimmy Jack,
Great opinion and right on the money,
Sapp is a generational player,As was Leroy Selmon.
Gerald Mccoy is no Sapp however he is above average and good for the community.
There are some GMC haters that need to STFU.

    GO BUCS

  41. John B Says:

He’s a one trick pony with a valuable trick – we need his get off in an attack D

But will he play for half that 13mil?????!

  42. Jack Says:

Like or not, Gerald Mcoy is one of the leaders of the time, cutting him would be a huge blow to team morale. Just keep him until he retires, at least he soaks up blocks right?

  43. Jack Says:

Like it or not, 93 is a leader of our team. Just keep him till he retires, not worth taking the blow to morale. Soaks up blockers pretty good.

  44. Pierce Says:

I think it’s time for him to move on. Not because I don’t like him, but we need a change in mental chemistry and so does he.

  45. JimmyJack Says:

Hahahaha……took his balls and went home. For sure that’s what happened. Never saw such a sore loser in my life.

Dude still sore everyday of his life because of Dungys loss in 1999.

  46. theodore Says:

Every new Defensive coach we get is the “best” one so far.

  47. Widerightandleft Says:

    Tmaxcon,
I want to apologize for all those kids in the neighborhood that outran, tackled, intercepted a pass you may have thrown.
I know you were the kid in the neighborhood playing ball ,that if the game didnt go the way you wanted ,you took the ball and went home .
Geez dude with fans like you ,the bucs dont need enemies.
A good rule of thumb is that if you dont have something nice to say then STFU.Or something like that.
    GOOOO BUCS

  48. Not there yet Says:

That’s a really pathetic argument, no one hates Geraldine because he doesn’t compare to Sapp that’s just stupid. Very few players compare to him, that’s like comparing Keon to Lawrence Taylor, what’s the point because is nowhere close to the player Sapp was. Sapp isn’t associated with a losing culture in his time at d tackle he was considered the best most of his career and on two all decade teams. Geraldine will never get those accolades forget the stats Sapp was a leader of men Geraldine was a pretender lol.

Sapp didn’t get the big contract but Geraldine did but don’t try saying he’s above average when his stats say otherwise, keeping him would be for nostalgic reasons not production 😁😁😁😁😁

  49. tmaxcon Says:

    Widerightandleft

not everyone has your ability to accept losing and failure. 10 years not a single meaningful win in his career. you can’t rewrite history because she goes to your cult aka church.

  50. DB55 Says:

“Hahaha all the speculation on draft is funny. I GUARANTEE this….. I WILL NOT. I repeat WILL NOT move to nose, regardless of who we draft!!”

This tweet probably cost us Aaron Donald, funny how he’s changing his tune now. I really dislike this guy.

  51. tmaxcon Says:

    JimmyJack

the reason people hate mccoy is because he is a fraud.

    spineless
    cry’s to owners
    crys on sideline
    quits on coaches
    quits on plays
    can’t play 4 qtrs

he has been on this team 10 years and you can’t name 3 GAMES he took over and the bucs won… he has no signautre games and makes 1 or 2 plays a years… that is stealing money not greatness

he cares about camera time and probowls nothing more.

the on-field results are why cancer93 hated simple as that…. 10 years not a single meaningful win…

  52. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfanman

I have had to go through a lot of whiskey watching him play. I could probably file suit against that fraud for liver damage.

  53. tbbucs3 Says:

Mccoy cant play at a high level in a 4-3 scheme anymore why would he work in a 3-4?

  54. Buccfan37 Says:

That first GMC take quote reads like it came off of a notepad with everyday inspirational messages.

  55. unbelievable Says:

Oh so now rhealist claimes they were rebuilding last year? LOL.

Dude can’t even keep track of all his changing opinions

  56. MIke F Says:

Pressure is better than coverage 8 days a week. Duh!

  57. Dre Says:

    Lol GMC sucks

  58. UnderMeBucinHat Says:

    Wider
It’s like talking to a brick wall. I usually just skip past his posts: “cancer93” Blaa Blaa Blaa- Tmx hates the Glazers anyway so he just must hate the team. I bet he’s a secret Redskins fan and loves Snyder

  59. tmaxcon Says:

    UnderMeBucinHat

i love the team hate the results. so you are a better fan because you accept losers and losing with a smile????

  60. gotbbucs Says:

He’s lucky he’s gone through that many coaches, none of them actually got enough time to realize that he was a fraud.
If they dont get rid of this turd once and for all, he’ll just end up dictating what they do up front AGAIN. He can say all he wants that he’ll line up wherever they want him to line up, but he’ll make it abundantly clear what he prefers. He isnt flexible enough to play any position other than straight ahead 3-tech. Period.

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m not sure I understand the big deal in this post. Other than it could be taken two different ways.

Either GMC is talking about a new team or he’s talking about an entirely new coaching staff and defensive scheme with the Bucs.

I think that was unclear…but the rest of his sentiments are spot on…embrace change…look forward to the new stuff.

  62. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

The big fat softie Gerald McCoy delivers yet another big fat soft cliche

Someone please put his pacifier back in his mouth

  63. catcard202 Says:

The biggest question in my eyes, is do you keep GMC at age31 or franchise tag D.Smith(26)??? To me, it’s answer is paramount to direct Licht/Bucs takes at #5.

The Bucs would have to use GMC’s 13M to keep Smith.

(It’s a tough 1yr = $$ call because Smith has effort issues but is OK/young & grades out as a middle of the road starting LT in the NFL= Tag $$…GMC has been a DEF staple/community fixture for his 6x pro-bowl career, but is in decline/at later stages of career.)

If’s Bucs tag Smith..GMC is toast & Bucs draft DT or Edge-OLB. (Seems likely)

If they let Smith walk…They try to restructure GMC to market value & then plan on LT/RT upgrades via TradeDown scenarios & work on flipping #5 for multiple picks. (Bucs could then look to secure bookend T’s & enough DEF chess pieces in APR)

  64. Jean Lafitte Says:

I’ve never thought Gerald was terrible just unspectacular. It would be nice if he would give us a team friendly contract and agree to work in a rotation.

  65. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

“Either you can play football or you can’t.”

That sounds like Coach Buckner speaking! LOL. His presence is still felt!
