“Better Be Ready”

January 26th, 2019

Advice for Bucs players.

Joe gets the sense a rude awakening is coming to training camp, if not before, for slackers, dancers and me-first guys with the Bucs, provided they are not weeded out prior to the team arriving for offseason conditioning on April 1.

New Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians is a no-nonsense guy. He may not be a nitpicking drill sergeant, like former Bucs commander Greg Schiano was, but Arians won’t be that far behind.

Remember, Arians is a product of Bear Bryant. You know, the guy behind Junction Boys?

In the mind of former Belicheats linebacker Tedy Bruschi, Arians is exactly what the Bucs need, so he explained on a recent edition of “NFL Live.”

“Not only is [Arians] going to command the room, he is going to demand everything from his players,” Bruschi said. “He will demand it. You heard him talking about evaluating players. He’s talking about your brain and he is talking about your heart. He’s not talking about height or speed – it’s important to him, yes. But he wants people that are in. All in.

“That is what type of coach this is. I’m telling you Tampa Bay players, you better be ready for a coach that is going to push you hard because he is coming in ready to go.”

Yes, the Bucs in the post-Chucky era tried this type of coach with Schiano and it blew up in their faces. The team damn near had a mutiny and just about every person at One Buc Palace was fed up with Schiano’s control-freak ways.

Arians is different. Is he stern and direct? You bet. But Joe doesn’t believe Arians will have his fingers on every nook and cranny of One Buc Palace, from how the pasta is prepared to temperatures of team hotel hallways.

It sure seems as though the Bucs are going to have one helluva wake-up call fairly soon.

I think I may actually attend some training camp practices this year!!! TOO BAD they can have 10 days practices without water anymore if they did I woukd resign chris baker just for the fun of it!

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

Ray Perkins was a Bear Bryant product too…just saying 🙂

  3. StoutGospel Says:

Amen! That atmosphere will be much appreciated. Bring it on Bruce!

When do we start cutting people??…the deadline is usually fifth day of the league year which is around March 15th but that’s the deadline. Let’s start cutting some folks and start cushioning up the cap figure.

  4. Bucs 14 Says:

Will this work in the modern day NFL? Not sure. I am sure Bucco Bruce Arians is no Greg “Toe the Line” Schiano, but that strict disciplinarian routine that Joe is referring to with the Junction Boys reference definitely won’t work with professional athletes. When a player makes way more than the coach, and knows that another team would take him, I can’t see the player going all in on the boot camp routine.

  5. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

You guys always talk about cutting players to free up cap space but you never talk about who to buy with that extra money that’s better than what we already got

Just cutting players to free up cap space to bring in more mediocre players is stupid

  6. StoutGospel Says:

Then again…goof Licht will kid himself into thinking that some foolish team might take GMC, DJax, or Curry on a trade even with those contracts WHICH THOSE TEAMS WON’T, so trades can’t even start till March 13th at 4 like Free Agency commences, so this buffoon wont do jack until like March 17th, the day before the 5th day into the league year, when most bonuses are paid out, and contracts guaranteed $$ kicks in if its in their contract language at all for that year.

Ain’t ishh gonna happen till basically then. Awesome.

  7. Nick3 Says:

Finally a hard nose coach who commands respect!!!!!h

You must not read Joe very much. He’s been banging the drum for the Bucs to re-sign Adam Humphries and go buy John Brown.

And so was Gene Stallings… just saying. 🙂

Dude, it’s not like Arians hasn’t coached in the NFL before.

    Lookout, locker room ping pongers.

Joe- watching that snippet makes me have flashbacks, Semper Fi! I would love to see if these guys could survive bootcamp. And not just any bootcamp, Marine Corps bootcamp.
Talk about being tested psychologically and physically!! It would sure weed out the weak.

I watched that movie the other day.

“I will personably gouge out your eyes and skull f—- you “

    Classic movie history.

    Just a fantastic movie.

I suspect the herd will be culled of slackers and malcontents well before TC commences.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “The team damn near had a mutiny and just about every person at One Buc Palace was fed up with Schiano’s control-freak ways.” You’re exactly right Joe, but it’s not just the ‘control-freak’ bit IMO. Professional players can tolerate an awful lot I think IF you’re winning. And that’s the key … WINNING. If you’re working your butt off yet still getting killed on the field, it’s just human nature IMO to ask ‘Where the heck is the reward that he promised for all this hard work & punishment?’

Bucs players will buy into Bruce Arians (and Todd Bowles) because they’ve shown they can WIN doing things their way. There’s gonna be a LOT of changes at 1 Buc Place, and not just personnel-wise. The faster BA & this coaching staff can get their system in-place AND winning, the more everyone will buy in totally (including fans & media).

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Joe, I know that you’ve been “banging the drum for the Bucs to re-sign Adam Humphries and go buy John Brown”, but I still don’t get it. Totally on-board with re-signing Adam Humphries, but what’s the fetish with John Brown? We’ve got tone of other NEEDS right now; why spend limited salary CAP $$$ on a 4th receiver when we need 2 RBs, 3 OLine, 2-3 DLine, 2 LBs, a veteran CB, a veteran Safety AND a kicker just for starters. And oh ya, much better DEPTH.

  19. Jean Lafitte Says:

We will see how long the local media can stomach the discipline before they start attacking him like they did Schiano. I hope they don’t stoop to billboards again?

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I suspect the big differences in Arians & Schiano are:

The resumes…..and Arians has a reputation for being liked……you can be a hard-ass without being an a-hole.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our 16 mil cap space……does that include the cap increase for 2019?

We may not need to cut a bunch of players to gain space….but somehow we need to find a MLB & LT if Kwon & D. Smith aren’t signed……and we need money for Hump and the draft picks…..
    Someone has to go.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Almost forgot $$$ for a kicker…….

  23. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

Good. It’s about damn time. Go Bucs.

    ———–
My thoughts exactly. Fans cried like little girls because Schiano was to “mean”. Again some fans rather have nice guys instead of wins.

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

Never once did I see Schiano act like an a-hole. The media might have suggested as much but he never did it in public. His pressers and interviews always seemed measured and polite. The media with their weak constitution for discipline ran Schiano out of town. Big Dog hated the guy and never had anything nice to say. I never seen so much piling on.

  26. Joe Says:

We will see how long the local media can stomach the discipline before they start attacking him like they did Schiano. I hope they don’t stoop to billboards again?

Let’s not make things up and connect dots that don’t exist.

The billboard stunt was done by an advertising executive at a music station. To the best of Joe’s knowledge, not only did that station not have any employee credentialed to cover the Bucs, Joe knows of not one reporter who did cover the Bucs contribute $1 to those billboards.

Technically, a music station is “media,” yes. But it wasn’t (nor is) anyone who covers the Bucs.

  27. Joe Says:

what’s the fetish with John Brown?

He’s inexpensive and runs a 4.3-40-yard dash (just like DeSean Jackson) with about the same stats as DeSean Jackson.

So he gives the Bucs a deep-ball threat and produces about as much as DJax with zero baggage and a whole lot cheaper.

Brown also played for Arians in Arizona.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You can be an a-hole without acting like one in public……I know from personal experience….

  29. StoutGospel Says:

    Hey..@7423…

Judging by @Joe’s response to you, via my post of cutting players to free up cap space, you can (and we all will) consider that FOOT FIRMLY PLANTED UP YOUR…well ya know.

    Now who’s stupid.

And I didn’t even begin to attempt who Licht would sign, but yeah, our own first would help.

Maybe you can become fast friends with that other enlightened waste that is @ NDog.

    Go Bucs!

Joe’s comment to my first post here did not disprove anything I said

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yelling, screaming and cursing will be accepted, first and foremost as D.R. points out if you win. But players will accept a coach who runs a tight ship if it’s not just following absurd details for the sake of the details.

IE…what temperature rooms have to be to the degree…I’m ambivalent with toes on the line but I guess it could make a point to the brain dead DL who line up offsides. That literally cost a team a spot in this year’s SB.

  33. Old School Athlete Says:

Arians vs Schiano is a ridiculous comparison. One has actually accomplished something in the League and one has not. The discipline will be better received if it’s about eliminating mistakes and improving mental focus and execution and not just the drill sergeant routine. We have heard from several guys who used to play for BA that he is tough, but they also know that he cares about them as men. I suspect that will be a key difference between the two. Also, it’s a lot easier to take orders from a guy who has a ring. I would love to play for him!

  34. Joe Says:

Joe you must not read #7423 very much. #7423 said bringing in and spending more money on MEDIOCRE talent is stupid

John Brown played in the playoffs. Call him “mediocre” if you wish but good coaches found ways to use him to get to the playoffs, including the Bucs current coach.

Say what you will about Humphries but he had more of an impact for the Bucs than DJax did. That’s a fact.

But yeah, go ahead and watch Humphries leave so the Bucs can afford an overrated malcontent like DJax. Smart! smh

  35. Jean Lafitte Says:

Humphries is our Wes Welker. He finds and sit in the soft zones with precise routes and is fearless about crossing the middle. He is JW’s security blanket and has proven he can help move the sticks. You keep him. I will not demonize Djax but I will agree with Joe that John Brown could replace Djax at lesser money, but ..I’m not convinced he would garner extra attention and help keep Evans clean. With Djax, it’s automatic, he draws two defenders.

  37. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Arians has said that everything just fell into place and Tampa became a destined destination. The Bucs are very fortunate to have landed Bucco Bruce. I haven’t been this excited about BucBall for 10-15 years.

Speaking of dancing…my gut tells me McCoy is a goner no matter what..trade ( unlikely at that $$$ ) or outright release. It’s time…
