What Does GMC Know?

December 31st, 2018

Odd postgame remarks.

Strange if not depressing video of GMC.

From the camera lens of Ryan Bass, sports director of WTSP-TV Channel 10, Bass caught some dramatic video of Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy after the game.

GMC seemed as if he was choking back tears at times, mumbled at times that’s he’s just a humble native of the southern region of Oklahoma City and not just thanked Team Glazer for the opportunity to play for the Bucs but also talked in past-tense of playing for the Bucs.

Is GMC retiring? He told Joe after the game that there’s no chance of that. But has he already been told he will be released or traded this offseason? Was he just that upset thinking Koetter was going to be fired (which he was roughly three hours after this video was shot)?

Strange and spooky words from GMC. Take a peek for yourself.

    54 and 93 in the end just weren’t 55 and 99

  2. AtlBuc Says:

I hope they don’t get rid of him. I like his character and his effort and what he does on the field.

  3. Loyaltotheend Says:

Writing is on the wall, he’s a smart guy he knows his play doesn’t warrant 13 million a year and probably won’t take a pay cut to play for his 5th head coach.

  4. Not there yet Says:

Dang I hope this is the end of the Geraldine era. All he’s thinking about is what people say about him. That kind of sensitive nonsense is what’s wrong with this team. Soft as tissue and you should be gone, no pay cut no cut and resign just gone. Dude just can’t be that soft playing the most violent position in the sport.

  5. Ray Rice Says:

Deuces Aunt Geraldine McBooty! Below average DT’s are in surplus.

  6. WalkdaPlank Says:

I believe there were multiple games this year GMC recorded either 1 or 0 tackles and whenever he was out of the huddle the defense seemed nearly unaffected.

The real question is do they bring Kwon back. He suffered a terrible injury but whenever he was out of the huddle the defense was clearly affected.

  7. Larry Says:

No Warren Sapp, but a good, solid player. Not worth the $13 million he is scheduled to make. Can’t believe the Bucs kept Licht for the GM. You are what your record says you are. Licht’s record is average.

  8. Swanee22 Says:

He stated, he gave this team everything he had according to a Tampa Bay Times employee. That maybe true, However, It was not good enough for me, it wasn’t good enough for you, it wasn’t good enough for anybody. GMC was average and not consistent. This team desperately needs an impact defensive tackle… He will retire or make an attempt to play for another NFL team, however, in a limited role with a very limited number of plays..

  9. MadMax Says:

GMC is a good dude….writing was on the wall though.

Now to draft that big bad DT Williams! @ #5 thats what its worth….or if we trade down a few spots, DT Wilkins.

Its all good Gerald. You werent Sapp on the field, but you ALSO wasnt Sapp off field (means a lot too). A GREAT big ole teddy bear. Good luck in your future endeavors.

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    No LUV for Jeffery Simmons?

  11. T REX Says:

Licht has a worse record than Dominik. Let that sink in. Licht sucks.

  12. Tbbucs3 Says:

Sorry Gerald, nice try. No ones gonna feel sorry for you.

Get that soft mentality out of here. Go pout as an average overpaid DT somewhere else.

  13. Tbbucs3 Says:

No ring of honor player here. Not even close. Just a compiler who played long enough just to fill up a decent stat sheet. Put on the tape post 2013.

  14. #1bucfan Says:

Thank you GMC f what every hater says yea your play that past couple years has declined an wish you would take a pay cut to help the team but what he did off the field ppl is way more important than playing football or any sport matter of fact. Football is football but helping youth an families in need is what this world need more of so again thank you GMC

  17. Fire Light Says:

GMC was a great Buc during bad times. Jason Licht and the Rockdud messed his career up. Hopefully he lands somewhere and gets a ring. Thank you Gerald! An all time great Buc!

  19. Gruden4President Says:

Gmac needs to restructure his contract and stay with us we have work to do still. We can draft his replacement in the 2nd rd we need to take either greedy or jonah at 5 or bosa if ny some miracle he slips to 5

  20. Bucs fans short memories Says:

Just got done smoking an Opus X to celebrate the firing of Dirk and I’ll smoke another one when this complacent bum is off the team too. I guarantee the bucs make the playoffs the 1st year McCoy is no longer A buc. 100% guaranteed. Take it to the bank

    Good brotha. How about yourself?

  22. MadMax Says:

New coach is coming in and a 5th rd draft pick….time for us nobodies to get busy on the only outlet we can….its a shame we arent working for the Glazers lol

“Licht’s record is average.” Well below Average

    Licht = 27-53
    Winston = 21-33
    Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 131
Next failure at HC = 0-0

    Updated Resumes

  28. gotbbucs Says:

Pretty hard to take anything this guy says seriously at this point.

    He’s already in offseason form.

  29. Red86 Says:

I’m tired of the Licht’s record bashing. Let’s be real here. This year offense was in the top 5. This don’t happen without have the right weapons nor does this happens by mistake.

Licht did his best to get the guys to perform this feat. Licht can’t help that stubborn Koetter kept playing Benenoch over Cappa. That was ridiculously obvious Caleb held this offense back.

Licht can’t help that stubborn Koetter keep Mike Smith for 3 years. 3 years of the same cbs being off the wideouts by 10-15 yards on 3rd &5-1. It’s soooo obvious that many of us on this board pointed this out. If the fans know it’s a problems, then all opponents coaches knows it. This foolishness cause many losses in the process. Again not Licht fault.

It’s not Licht fault that some of our position cashes aren’t getting it done as far as developing, coaching, and getting the players to execute their role. Notice how for most of Keotter time here, we couldn’t breathe on the qb consistently. We didn’t have many players that finished with double digits sacks. Yet, when we got Buckner, JPP, Curry, and the biggest surprise Nassib, that all changed in one year. This is clearly a sign that coaching was the issue this year.

It’s not Licht fault with the lack of discipline on the field. Several times the offense has momentum driving the ball to the opponents side of the field. But, wait there are offensive pass interference, holding, unsportsmanlike fouls, off sides, and illegal offense penalties. These penalties wipe away TDs and more time than not lead to kickers missing field goals. I haven’t gotten started on the defense yet. Once again, this is a coaching issue. This alone has cause us multiple victories.

Has Licht miss on some draft picks? Yes. All GMs in the NFL has done so. Has some picks not workout? Yes. No NFL GM are perfect. But, you have to understand this process include multiples people including coaches. It’s foolish to think just the GM draft who they want without thinking about whether the players fit the schemes. Let’s not forget how tryouts and undrafted players often work with coaches first to get recommended to the GM to sign. This process has produce Humphrey who need the be signed ASAP. Also, Nassib has impressed me. Cam Brate became a house hold name. Perhaps having a more competent HC will improve Licht picks and free agent pick up.

Licht has inherited a broken roster on both side of the ball. Licht couldn’t do it all in 1 year due to bad contracts and the cap. The NFL isn’t like NCAA. NCAA you can kick a lot of players out with no financial consequences and recruit who you want. Dominik has failed this organization by not leaving much to work with when Licht became the GM. If Licht is gone, then he will leave a great young foundation at a lot of positions. We can not with a straight face say that about the prior GM.

Licht deserved another shot next year.

  33. Defense Rules Says:

@WalkdaPlank … “The real question is do they bring Kwon back. He suffered a terrible injury but whenever he was out of the huddle the defense was clearly affected.”

I’m wondering the same thing … ‘Does Kwon return? And if so, as what? In the middle or outside?’ MLB is THE key position on defense IMO (ultimately everything flows through the middle). MLBs like Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher & Hardy Nickerson literally define their defense with their play AND leadership (including play-calling). Personally think that Kwon was misused as a MLB (too small & gets blocked/suckered out of position too easily) but has exceptional instincts for an outside LB … his college position.

Problem is that his ‘terrible injury’ happened in a contract year. Would you gamble a significant long-term contract on a LB coming back from a major leg injury? Can he rehab it to 100% or would you be better off betting on Beckwith to come back from HIS major leg injury? Or bet on neither returning & focus instead on signing an experienced MLB stud & backing that up with a mid-level draft pick. Sure glad we’re keeping Licht’s Out to answer critical defensive questions like that. (Sarcasm font off now).

  35. Buc believer Says:

Licht is such a F…ing idiot he will probably give this big fat cry baby loser a big fat new contract of over 20 million a year! I wouldn’t put it past a dumb arse who drafts a F… ing kicker in the second round. Be prepared people for much more Buc pain to come!

  36. Defense Rules Says:

@Red86 … “I’m tired of the Licht’s record bashing. Let’s be real here. This year offense was in the top 5. This don’t happen without have the right weapons nor does this happens by mistake.” Trying not to be critical Red86, but this Bucs offense is NOT a Top 5 offense. Not even close. That’s a cruel joke that Joe & others have perpetrated on Bucs’ fans since the day Jameis was drafted.

TOTAL YARDAGE counts for absolutely NOTHING in the NFL. POINTS SCORED are ALL that count. Accumulating lots & lots of YARDAGE between the 20’s qualifies us as a great marching band. Too few POINTS SCORED qualifies us as the perennial bottom-dwellers at the bottom of the NFC South.

This year Bucs ranked #3 in TOTAL YARDAGE in the NFL (6134 yds). We ranked #13 in POINTS SCORED with 396 pts … pretty much middle-of-the-pack.

In 2017 Bucs ranked #9 in TOTAL YARDAGE in the NFL (5814 yds). We ranked #18 in POINTS SCORED with 335 pts … slightly BELOW middle-of-the-pack.

In 2016 Bucs ranked #18 in TOTAL YARDAGE in the NFL (5542 yds). We ranked #18 in POINTS SCORED with 354 pts … slightly BELOW middle-of-the-pack.

In 2015 Bucs ranked #5 in TOTAL YARDAGE in the NFL (6014 yds). We ranked #20 in POINTS SCORED with 342 pts … again BELOW middle-of-the-pack.

LOTS of REASONS for our middle-of-the-pack offensives performances during Dirk Koetter’s (and Jameis’) tenure here in terms of POINTS SCORED IMO. Mediocre OLine leads the list of REASONS to me (mediocre ever since Mankins left). Mediocre RB corps is also a REASON IMO, as is predictable run play-calling in too many instances. Too many TURNOVERS are another REASON for unsatisfactory Red Zone performance IMO, as is having a horrible KICKING game.

So drink Joe’s KoolAid if you want, but the bottom line remains that we sport a 5-11 record this year … last place yet again in the NFC South. And that’s AFTER the Panthers & Falcons both imploded this year. Why are we the bottom-feeders yet again? Because this is a poorly-constructed team, with too many glaring starting weaknesses & far too little depth. Thankfully though we found yet another scapegoat … Dirk Koetter this time … to pin it on. And kept the Architect of this mess … Jason Licht. That only happens in Bucsville!

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I love GMC on and off the field. Great guy. Great player. If he were getting 10+ sacks, no way would I want to move on.

But other teams consider him high value, and for us, he is approaching the age were his flame will start dying. Now is the time to trade him. And the haters will be surprised with the price he gets.

I said two years ago that 2018 would be the final season Lavante plays for us. Thankfully, he had a great season, so his trade value went up.

Trade GMC, LVD & DJax. Cut Unrein. Vinny Curry has not been bad, but Nassib came on strong and took his spot. Maybe Curry makes too much to be a backup. If so, release him or try to trade him (even a late round pick is something).

The genius that is Jason Licht gave us easy outs with the free agents last year. No cap hits if released after the first year.

Of course, let Mike McCarthy make the final decisions.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Defense Rules

Bucs were top five in TOTAL OFFENSE this year. No point in arguing that. It’s right there on the NFL website.

Add in a good kicker and our points scored go up a bunch. It was kicking and defense that doomed us, same as last year.

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As much as I like Jim Harbaugh, paying him $17+ million in just his first year is out of the question (his $7m salary plus the $10m buyout from Michigan). If the Glazers did that, he’d get a 5-7 year commitment from the Glazers. Plus they could have spoken with him for a month now. If they thought they’d get him, they would not have hired a consulting firm.

So Jim Harbaugh is off the table.

That leaves Mike McCarthy or Brian Flores as the top options. McCarthy is the more solid, less risky one. His only losing seasons the past eleven years were when his starting QB was injured and on IR.

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And to the Jason Licht haters…it’s over. He’s staying. Time to move on and stop the whining like school children.

  41. Phil Says:

We can only hope that GMC has played his last game as a Buc.

  42. Tnoles Says:

6 sack average and 30 to 35 tackles a year. That’s average if you ask me. The unbelievable get off he has can only get you so far like 6 sacks and 35 tackles a year. Well you got the help you desired and we got the same result. Later GMC enjoy your millions and don’t worry we as fans will see you on the flip side.

  43. Tnoles Says:

Maybe the Joe’s can tell us what his take total was for the year compared to vea and vwa played less games, I’m sure my comments above will make since when you compare GMC to other players.

  44. Dan Says:

Team just isn’t the same since the sons took over. Loosing is our reality along with bad choices and low moral

  45. Ed Says:

Him and Suh both came out of same draft and neither were able to dominate like Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack or Von Miller did. Never did McCoy lead a top 5 defense. His was a good player, still is but his draft position called for a dominant player that changed games by making big plays that had the meaningful impact and let the team to wins.

Gerald should have been greater than he was. His attitude and mentality were fine, just didn’t have the strength or stamina to be elite.

  46. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Red 86… I respect all opinions, but please read the following and tell me if you are still willing to give Light a pass. IMO, he is more responsible for where we are now than Koetter, although Dirk is a close second:

    Responsible for 5 drafts. Notable misses in the first 3 rounds;

    Austin Seferian Jenkins(2)
    Charles Sims(3)

    Ronald Jones (2)
    Alex Cappa(3)

But to truly appreciate his ineptness, let’s look at the 2016 draft where he had 5 slots to pick in the first 4 rounds

    Hargraves (1)
    Noah Spence (2)
    Aguayo(2+3) trade up
    Ryan Smith

And that folks is BETTER than his ineptitude in signing free agents:

    Chris Baker ($9 million guaranteed)
    JJ Wilcox
    Chandler Catanzaro
    Mitch Unrein
    Beau Allen

JR Sweezy (couldn’t take a snap in 2016 after hurting his back lifting weights. Jason the genius signed him for $14.5 million guaranteed. By the way, since releasing him his back feels better and is again playing for Seattle)

    Robert Ayers
His ongoing love affair with Chris Conte
    Henry Melton
    Sterling Moore

Yet Jason Licht is still employed and heading up the coaching search. I hate to break this to you buc nation, but the b*stard love child of Vince Lombardi and Don Shula could not get more than eight wins out of this roster.

When someone at work is better than you and you are making 4 times more, then the writing on the wall is pretty clear. Either you will have to take a pay cut or find some other job. Vita Vea came on strong at the end of the season and McCoy knows Vita will be better than him next year.

  51. AlteredEgo Says:

I’d LOVED to see #93 back with a restructured contract…2019 draft DL and DB with first 2 picks in no particular order…McCoy as a rotational DL player would be excellent !

  52. D-Rome Says:

Can’t believe the Bucs kept Licht for the GM. You are what your record says you are. Licht’s record is average.

I don’t think the average GM goes 27-53 in a five year span.

As for GMC, I believe it’s time to part ways. Great player and a greater person. This team needs a new face on both sides of the ball and for too long GMC has been the faceof the Bucs defense. Most fans will miss him. I know this community will miss him for sure if the Bucs part ways.

  53. Anonymous Says:

  54. Jonzey Says:

Keep GM and get 1st Greedy Williams 2nd running back Justice Hill

  55. RickinFtMyers Says:

I like Gerald McCoy as a man and as a player, but it’s time for the Bucs to part ways with this former #1 draft pick. The Bucs should trade or release McCoy, because since he was drafted in 2010 the team has amassed an embarrassing 52-92 record. Now, we can’t blame all that losing on McCoy, because one player does not a football team make, but over those years everything else, the GM, the head coach, the assistants, hell the roster has changed with the sole exception of McCoy. He’s the one constant throughout those nine years of losing football. If nothing else, the Bucs owe it to the rest of team and the fans to move on from McCoy to see if removing that singular constant changes things in Tampa.

  56. Mike Johnson Says:

Geralds a smart Guy. He knows the deal. He’s figured it out. leave or stay, I’ve always respected him for his play and candor. people forget the years he carried our Defense, even when we lost. I’m sure wherever he lands he will be an asset to that team. And they will be lucky to have him. He’s not quite finished yet. Perhaps as a Buc but not as a player. And like many players we have dumped, Gerald will probably come back to haunt us in an important game . Good Luck Gerald. In my opinion, you were and are, A class act.

  57. Jonzey Says:

GM is not the problem we need a cornerback Greedy fits the bill and we need a running back back
