With The Sixth Pick In The 2019 NFL Draft

December 26th, 2018

The what-ifs await

The Bucs’ two-game losing streak has dropped a pile of uncertainty into the Tampa future of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

This is about math, a new head coach and Team Glazer, not Jameis love or hate.

If the season ended today, Tampa Bay would hold the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The teams picking ahead of them? Arizona (No. 1) drafted 21-year-old QB Josh Rosen at No. 10 overall this year. The 49ers, Jets and Raiders pick next, respectively, and they all have stable quarterback situations. Yeah, even Chucky seems to be truly loving three-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr, who has thrown just eight interceptions and should bust the 4,000-yard season mark on Sunday.

Then its Detroit picking at No. 5 overall. Ironman QB Matt Stafford, who hasn’t missed a game since 2010, is still a sound signal caller and there’s no reason to think the Lions want to dump him at 30 years old.

And then come the Bucs. It’s conceivable they could be in position to draft the first quarterback off the board in April — or have the least to pay in order to trade up and get him. That’s a rare opportunity.

Joe’s not advocating the Bucs do that, but you better believe a new head coach and Team Glazer will be heavily considering that option, if the Bucs lose on Sunday and maintain their draft position. At the very least, the top QBs will be scouted and vetted. And the more time spent around the college QBs, the greater the chance the Bucs fall in love with one of them.

Jameis isn’t responsible for the Bucs’ 5-10 record, but he certainly has been a part of it. One could fairly hang the loss to Cincinnati squarely on Jameis. With just one more win this season, the Bucs would be drafting significantly later and potentially out of the QB conversation in the draft.

Jameis and his fans might spend a load of time this offseason how much one more W would have mattered.

    Will Grier!

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

    If we lose trying to win then great we win the 5th sorriest team award but to try to lose for a draft pick is the loser mentality that we’re trying to rid ourselves of. Plus, why would Koetter intentionally try to lose when he’s good as gone?

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

    correction* sixth sorriest team award

  4. Larry Says:

    Here in Detroit fans are wondering why Stafford after 10 years and banking a ton Ford loot, hasn’t won a playoff game? The talk I hear is all about drafting their next QB!

  5. John B Says:

    it Makes my stomach turn to think some are okay with this regime getting one more year

    Instead of recognizing what it takes to enhance his skill set, they read the press clippings gs of his gunslinger mentality and load up on weapons

    If they had invested most of those wasted 2nd round picks or maybe the OJH luxury selection on some real OLineman and a couple NFL level running backs, JW is a completely different player

    Hopefully, the owners have finally awakened to the ineptness of this regime and can bring in some people that actually understand how to utilize the talent on hand

    Time to go to work!

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

    It makes sense for the Bucs to draft a QB here. There will most likely be 3 good ones available….Haskins, Herbert and Lock (Grier will be a 2nd rounder). It would be a great insurance policy to have one of these young guys on the roster. There’s no evidence that Winston will ever be more than what he is now….a mid level QB with turnover issues. There’s also no guarantee that all Winston’s off field issues are behind him either. So while Jameis gets one more chance next year to up his game, Koetter or whoever is the next coach, can be grooming a young guy to take over the reins just in case! Then in the subsequent rounds, I’d address O-Line and D-Line.

  7. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

    Haskins would be the only one worthy of such a pick…if at all. Teams will likely trade into the top 5 if they target a certain QB.

  8. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

    Fire Jason Licht as soon as the game ends this weekend, this team needs someone with a winning vision. Not a bafoon drafting D-3 players and wasting 5 years of 2nd rounders

  9. onetrickpony Says:

    Duthsty Rhothdes you hit it, but along with the whole wannabe fake scouting crew too

  10. LocalJoker Says:

    Great place to trade down and pick up another 2nd or 3rd round pick!

  11. Sarasota Garey Says:

    O-line

  12. Buc50 Says:

    Every year the trade down groupies get started. We can’t draft at the positions we originally get, what makes people think we can drop down in the draft and do better?

  13. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    If Jason Licht is drafting it will be a BUST!!

    No QB please, fix the one we have

  14. Elita Vita Says:

    ….. remember that as of now we don’t have a 3rd round draft pick. ( JPP trade).

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

    Even if a new regime is unsure about Jameis, drafting a QB at #6 would be a mistake. You could make the argument for a 2nd round pick, but given the host of needs this team has and no “sure-fire” QB prospect, I’d be looking O-line or D-line.

    Lastly, you draft where you draft and take the best player for your franchise. If you’re looking for draft position with games to play, you’re not in it for the right reasons and should be fired, players or coaches.
    Play to WIN. PERIOD.

  16. DBS Says:

    BS with the o-line and all the other excuses. This offens has traveled up and down the field between the 20’s and inside. The field general has not gotten it done. And if you keep yelling he does not have talent around him then neither does.Koetter. So he would have nothing to work with.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    The matchups aren’t very kind to us….but here is a novel thought. Instead of rooting for the Bucs to lose….how about rooting for the 49rs, Lions, Jets, Raiders & Jax to win.

    Also….with the first shot at a QB don’t you think JW knows that……that and his future should be strong motivation for him.

    I hate to disappoint the “loser mentality” “losing culture” just plain losers, but I think the Bucs have a great victory Sunday.

  18. Elita Vita Says:

    ….Looking for upgrades to online might be my priority (soaking of Benenoch and Smith).

  19. Elita Vita Says:

  21. Todd Says:

    Grier in R2 if he’s still available.

    R1 —> Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida

    Beast.

  22. AlteredEgo Says:

    If Licht is here we won’t be taking a QB with the 1st pick…..unless he has balls the size of grapefruit and asbestos ear muffs…..K&L&J will all return in 2019 to either turn the page going forward with Jameis as the long term QB in 2020 on….or the G’boyz burn down the house after 2019, in that case the new GM in 2020 will take a QB with the Bucs 1st pick…..

  23. Bob in Valrico Says:

    There is no evidence that trading down will help us, especially if Licht reaches for players like Aguyo or M. J. Stewart with the extra pick. Jameis
    with his suspension and benching not withstanding ,has not put together a season that proves he is the franchise QB.
    The team is in a tough position , we too many needs and not enough draft picks.
    Failed draft picks and terrible free agent signings without the right homework are
    a major cause of this predicament. Jason Licht must go or at minimum be stripped of the power to select players.

  24. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

    I thought Cappa played well when he was in. He should replace Caleb without question. I’d be good with a left tackle. I’d also dump Jameis. Use the money saved on his contract +brent’s and go get Foles. Give him a short term deal and if he busts we would then likely be in a similar situation with a draft class that holds a decent. Qb option. We’ve had 4 years of inconsistency with Jameis. I’ve seen enough.

  25. Bobby M. Says:

    As one local sports writer put it….the bucs don’t have to try to lose for a draft pick, they lose when they’re actually trying to win.

    If there’s a legit QB prospect available then the Bucs would be wise to take him. The “window” for a few playoff runs was yrs 3-5 with Winston….His compensation after next year will blow up to modern salary standards and unless you have a dominant QB, teams have a hard time competing until they get additional cap room. We could continue to build a roster with the extra cap space a young QB would provide. Give him a year behind Winston like Mahomes with Smith in KC….Then send Winston packing if he’s not proven worthwhile. If he has, potentially tag him and trade him. Winston has proven he’s not THE guy….but merely a guy. He’ll either step up with the competition or flame out….but he needs accountability. Another high pick at QB gives just that.

  26. Architek Says:

    This team will get better when they remove losers like Donovan Smith, Benenoch, Grimes, Gerald McCoy, Jameis Winston (The Turnover Machine), Ronald Jones, and a few others. And a few others are notable mentions (Noah Spence)

    Addition by subtraction.

    And simply allow the next head coach shop for his groceries once you remove the losers.

    If it’s a quarterback or LT then so be it but don’t be afraid to replace these chronic offenders.

  27. StoutGospel Says:

    All for maintaining the 6th spot in the draft.

    Wanted to see if these comments are posting straight through.

    Go Bucs!

  28. Ed Says:

    Bucsfanman Says: You could make the argument for a 2nd round pick, but given the host of needs this team has and no “sure-fire” QB prospect, I’d be looking O-line or D-line.

    Jameis is no “sure-fire” successful QB 4 years later. If there is a solid quarterback to be had when the Bucs pick, you get him. Over the past couple of drafts look at how well the young quarterbacks have played:

    Mayfield, Darnold, Watson, Wentz, Goff, Jackson, Trubisky to name a few.

    Josh Allen hasn’t played much for Buffalo so not much to say about him but most of these others have their teams in or contending for playoffs.

    Any of those guys have won more games making game winning plays than Jameis has so you cannot go wrong drafting a smart decision maker, coachable, accurate, mobile quarterback to groom behind Winston for a year to take over when his contract is up. Thats what a smart GM does.

  29. Ed Says:

    Forgot to mention Maholmes, another young quarterback drafted when KC had their veteran Alex Smith as a starter.

  30. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Possibility of getting the top QB this year might be a selling point for the new Head Coach who doesnt believe JW is the franchise future QB or he just wants to start fresh

    *The new HC hire along with Team Glazer hopes this will be the last year the Bucs have a opportunity to draft this high for the top QB so they may never be in this position again

    *Having the opportunity to draft the top QB has indeed brought in many more scenarios of the different kind of Head Coach the Bucs hire

    **Possibility of trading JW for a 3rd round pick has indeed gone up”

    Kobe Faker

  31. Doolnutts Says:

    DislocatedBucsFan – Grimes contract is expiring so he doesn’t count against the cap anyways. He will be a UFA.

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

    Ed- Your point is well taken. I’m just pointing to the other numerous needs besides QB.
    I’m not opposed to drafting a QB, it just better be by the new regime, and it better be the right guy this time.

  33. Kobe Faker Says:

    “For those that think having JW play next year and grooming the 1st round QB will work is in fantasy world

    25 year old #1 pick groomer?

    It would be a total cluster fvk drama X 100 on and off the field”

  35. Ndog Says:

    Joe drafting a QB instead of using this premium pick for a need is exactly the kind of thing that makes this franchise a joke. So you are right that is probably exactly what they will do, freaking morons.

    So just picture it, now we have two top 10 QBs that are expected to win games with no oline, no running game and a trash defense and garbage kicker. Smells like success doesn’t it????

  36. Ndog Says:

    Mayfield, Darnold, Watson, Wentz, Goff, Jackson, Trubisky to name a few.

    Bro do you even read what you post? Look at those names above and isn’t it ironic that Mayfield wasn’t good until they fired their coach and the defense statred killing it, Darnold hasn’t won crap cause his team sucks, Watson has a great defense lead by a future HOF and a #1 overall pick, Wentz team started winning when he got hurt, Goff when they shut down Gurley lately he has lead the league in TOs, Jackson you have to be kidding me, Tribusky had the best defense in the league plus 2 awesome running backs and still has games where they struggle to score. Put any of those guys on this team and it’s a crap fest. How do you not see that?

  37. Playaction Says:

    Jameis does need some competition, but not with our first round pick. That should go towards a DL to replace GMC , OL, or cornerback.

    With an extra 2nd we can get a QB and safety.
    All we need is a steady QB with an accurate arm.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Larry Says
    “Here in Detroit fans are wondering why Stafford after 10 years and banking a ton Ford loot, hasn’t won a playoff game? The talk I hear is all about drafting their next QB!”

    If the Lions are stupid enough to let Stafford go, I would take him in a heartbeat in Tampa. That would be almost like when Drew Brees hit the open market years ago and the Saints landed him.

    He could have another ten years in him.

  39. Zwak Says:

    Please start Griffin this week!

  40. Leighroy Says:

    Splitting hairs here, but the bucs are currently in a coin-flip position w the Bills for the 7th (or 8th) pick.
    THis doesn’t factor in the strength of schedule element of the final game, which should put the Bucs in the sixth pick and shift the Giants behind them, assuming both lose. –Joe

    Jeagan1999 Says
    “It makes sense for the Bucs to draft a QB here. There will most likely be 3 good ones available….Haskins, Herbert and Lock (Grier will be a 2nd rounder)”

    I realize the media is currently talking up those guys, but the sad truth is they are not nearly as good as their hype says they are.

    Our first round pick has got to go one defense, and unless Licht lands more second round picks like last year, we need our second pick to go on defense as well.

    I’m all for a backup plan. Heck, that’s why there are backup positions. But the last thing we need is to have a subpar backup who idiot fans clamor for…like the Vikings did under Frazier years ago.

    A 3-5 rounder QB would be okay I think, but honestly, better QB’s will be coming out next year. If Jameis blows it, let him blow the whole 2019 season and get us a better guy.

    But I’m hoping Jameis succeeds in becoming elite here.

  43. Kalind Says:

    They should of course scout them.

    BUT

    Do I think a guy out of college that’s 2 years younger with no experience will outweigh Jameis? One of the greatest statistical qbs under 25 EVER?

    No. No I do not.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Zwak Says
    “Please start Griffin this week!”

    That would be a really bad decision. First, it would tell the players the staff has quit, which is the opposite of what we want in the culture.

    Second, it sends Jameis a bad message as well.

    Look, I realize the backup is always popular when a team is losing, but Griffin is almost thirty and has no regular season experience. What should this tell us?

    That he lacks the ability to play well enough to impress coaches enough to start him and he lacks the drive to succeed.

    Because, no QB should be satisfied with his situation, and it has lasted his entire career. At this point, he cannot even be considered a good backup.

    Best to move on from him completely.

  45. Hodad Says:

    No rookie Q.B. would stand a chance with this O line. If I’m the new G.M. it starts up front. I’m drafting a left tackle, guard, right tackle. I’m going to try, and protect the Q.B. I have, and give him some sort of run game.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Sarasota Garey Says
    “O-line”

    We don’t need it. We just need our coaches to put in the right guys.

    Get rid of Dotson and save cap space. His skills have been dwindling, and Wester can replace him. Demote Caleb and move Marpet back there where he belongs. Put Cappa in to start at left guard…which is his natural position (and he’s been cross training at both guard a nd the center positons).

    Donovan Smith? Well, he’s at least average, maybe better. Bring in some guys after the draft to back him up and look for someone better. No need to spend a pick there.

    Unless they release him. Aren’t multiple guys along the line up for contracts this year? Marpet deserves one. Smith? Not so sure.

    Riding with Smith another year on his rookie contract is fine, but paying him big bucks? I don’t think he’s earned it.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I do like Jensen though. If he gets his penalties under control, he’s extremely good and all over the field when needed.

  48. 813bucboi Says:

    Buc50 Says
    “Every year the trade down groupies get started. We can’t draft at the positions we originally get, what makes people think we can drop down in the draft and do better? ”

    The last two first rounders were great picks. Is OJ a bust? No. Is Vea a bust? No. In fact, his rookie season is close to mirroring Warren Sapps rookie season, and Vea has played fewer games.

  50. Troy Says:

    For the love of God if we don’t draft defense I’m going to lose it. We won our only championship by having the best defense in the league. We’ll win our next one the same way. Offensives look pretty, but they sit home in February. True that QBs get all the glory, but for all the bradys in the world, they wouldn’t have their rings without the defenses that they brought with them. Does Philly win last year without its defense? Who scares you more this year Baltimore or the Chiefs? The Bears or the Rams? I’ll tell you this much Trubisky and Lamar Jackson are just serviceable QBs; nothing special.

  51. Guzzie Says:

    Jameis goes to Saints with Payton and those RBS and WRs and torments the B uh cs for the next 10 years, how you like them apples

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tampa fans are always giving up on drafted players too soon.

    M. J. Stewart is going to be great. He is just developing slightly slower than Davis.

    Some players are like that. They need a season of experience and then an off season to process those experiences and fix their weaknesses. Then they come back their second year and look better.

    M. J. Stewart is no dummy. He knows there is an opening for a starting CB and that the window won’t last long. Let’s at least evaluate his second season before giving up on him.

  53. StoutGospel Says:

    Whoever first suggested the possibility of a Jameis trade in the draft (assuming new GM wants that), it’s a very viable idea and a great trade chip for us, likely more a 2nd rounder though than a 3rd rounder, considering all the other bidders out there. Preferably putting Jameis in AFC I s’pose is how GM’s do things like this.

    Teams with QB needs: JAX, MIA, NYG, CIN, OAK (Gruden wanting “his”), DEN (Elway would like to cut ties with Keenum). That’s 6 logical bidding partners and Jameis could certainly garner us a 2nd rounder in 2019, especially with OAK’s extra picks.

    @813bucboi….

    Agree with your first 3 draft targets, although I’d just change it a bit IMO…

    1st Rd: Quentin Williams or Ed Oliver (both good-but 3 years of Saban tutelage certainly worth a lot)
    2nd round: Tackle
    3rd round: CB (press man) or DE

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I like Jameis for another season, but if the Lions really want to move on from Stafford, swap QBs.

  55. Mike Evans Goat Says:

    Elite vita
    That was last years 3rd. We have it for this year

  56. NPRSageBoy Says:

    Dump the bum

  57. StoutGospel Says:

    Maybe we should seriously consider out-bidding JAX for Nick Foles. Really. Look at how he performs when under pressure, and gets stronger as the games get more important. Guy has never had a steady solid role for several seasons as a starter, with same coaching staff, and scheme. Perhaps we could put that in place here. Intangibles, like Brees has, go an awful long way in W’s and L’s…

  58. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Nick Foles is a distraction, not a plan.

  59. D-Rome Says:

    The Bucs should not take a QB in the first round. For as much as I don’t think Jay-Miss is the long term solution at QB, the team needs to try one more season with him. Try to improve the offensive line (again) and the running game (again).

    This team has holes in many positions. QB is not the biggest position of need.

  60. Jonzey Says:

    We need to stick with JW he has thrown for 4,000 yards every year but this one. We need a CB in the 1st and a top RB in the second. JW never had a top RB.

  61. StoutGospel Says:

    No…you’re wrong Bonzai…

  62. Jonzey Says:

    I agree D-Rome

  65. Jonzey Says:

    Don’t need a QB

  66. MadMax Says:

    Resign JW for 1 year and draft QB Haskins…..im telling ya, you wont do any wrong with that pick. We need a young backup anyway. Fitz is probablt going to chase money so hes gone….and who is Griffen? right

  67. LakeLand Says:

    The Bucs are not sold on Jameis Winston

    I wouldn’t be surprise if they brought in a Joe Flacco
    And drafted a QB

  68. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Jean Lafitte Says:
    “to try to lose for a draft pick is the loser mentality that we’re trying to rid ourselves of.”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    On this, Jean, we are 100% in agreement.
    And if that type of mentality continues in sports to the disgraceful degree that it has…. the NFL & NBA will eventually just go to a TOTAL LOTTERY system that is not even based on W-L record any longer. That is the only way they can truly get rid of this loser mentality.
  69. OneBucPerson Says:
    I want me some Greedy Williams in red and pewter, we need a #1 CB and I’m not convinced Davis is that guy (yet). If we don’t go Williams other options I would be fine with are Deionte Thompson, Devin White, Ed Oliver, or an offensive lineman like Jonah Williams, Greg Little, Jawann Taylor, or Cody Ford.
  70. Playaction Says:
    Top two prospects aren’t sure if they want to leave college. Worst case scenario is to let Jameis play out his contract then Tua, Haskins and Herbert will all be available in 2020 and will have had one more year of seasoning.
  71. Not there yet Says:
    If a new coach wants a quarterback with that kind of pick it would be hard to fire him knowing he didn’t want Winston, if Winston stays cool if they draft another qb cool I just want to win and hopefully Winston will be playing lights out for the next contract. Whether they draft one or not doesn’t matter but that rookie shouldn’t play unless the season is lost again
  72. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    “M. J. Stewart is going to be great.”
    ~~~~~~~~

    Wow man and people think that I am an optimist! LOL.
    I sincerely hope you are right, Bonzai.

  73. LakeLand Says:

    They benched Jameis Winston for a 36 year old journeyman QB

    Then they made him the starting QB again
    Only on a temporary ( prove you’re the starter ) deal

    And based on what the Glazers have seen during these past 5 games
    The Glazers might be sold on bringing him back

    This is the reality of the situation

  74. 813bucboi Says:

  75. LakeLand Says:

    **The Glazers might not be sold on bring Jameis back**

  76. Jonzey Says:

    Bring JW back for 3 years get CB Williams in 1st he is a shut down cornerback he is y’all with great ballhawk skills, get RB Love in 2nd fast and great vision in

  77. BrianBucs Says:

    Everybody always brings up Winston’s age, however, there is a group of young QB’s that have been in the league a shorter time than Winston has that are playing at a much higher level than he is now and they have their teams winning and showing promise. So drafting a QB to develope quickly like some of those guys doesn’t bother me at all.
    However, the smart play would be to try to acquire Nick Foles , the reigning Superbowl Champion and Superbowl MVP and let him do for the Bucs what he has done for the Eagles. That would be quite a coup for Licht or the new GM.

  78. Cgmaster27 Says:

    Ot would be absolutely moronic to take a qb this year joe. Who are you going to take and put behind this line? Which qb is even worth taking? This qb class sucks and so does the qb free agent class. Again taking a qb would be absolutely moronic.

  79. Jonzey Says:

    All those young QB’s have great running backs but JW

  80. BrianBucs Says:

    Also, if the Bucs decide keep Winston as their starting QB, it could scare off some potential head coaching candidates and have them sign elsewhere

  81. Jonzey Says:

    I don’t think so

  82. BrianBucs Says:

    Jonzey

    No, they do not. However, these QB’s make them look better unlike Winston who needs the players to make Him look better

  83. BrianBucs Says:

    Nick Foles was just named NFC Offensive Player Of The Week. Again. After throwing for 471 yards and 4 TD’s to rally his team for a win and keep their playoff hopes alive. He sure would look great in Red and Pewter. Glazers, GO GET HIM

  84. Eric Says:

    Keep Winston, get an Oline where he is not running for his life.

  85. SOEbuc Says:

    Joe, like you’ve said in the past. The Glazers have invested too much into Jameis. And now they’re firing the HC they’ve had for three years after they fired the coach they had for two years???

    Something doesn’t add up there if you’re trying to give up on your number one pick QB at 24 years old after all this. So many have said if Jameis went to a good team with a good staff, he could be a top tier QB. If the Glazers keep bringing in BS head coaches, it’s going to be Jameis 2.0 whenever you want to get a rookie QB.

  86. LakeLand Says:

    If the Bucs bring in the right offensive coaches
    This O-Line will play a whole lot better
    For instance they could shorten the receivers routes (run more slants)
    The QB will get the ball out quicker
    More passes to the running backs

    Mix it up with more run plays

    A rookie QB can fit perfectly behind this O-Line
    With the right playcalling

  87. BrianBucs Says:

    Lakeland

    Agreed. A slow developing downfield passing game puts a lot of pressure on your O – Line

  88. Oneilbucs Says:

    Brainbucs. They don’t make there players look good you don’t know football. Joe Montana had hall of famers on both sides of the ball . You can’t win without a defense or a running back. Every team that won a super bowl had a good defense and a running game that was a threat. The ravens are wining because of the defense and a running game. The saints just started back wining when there running game got better and defense. Yall just don’t understand football stop listening to what Collin Cowherd say .

  89. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    I’m a huge advocate for Jameis but it never hurts to have insurance for in case he gets hurt or yes does not perform well with the new coaching staff. Plus QBs if good are great trade bait opportunities. The other thing that can happen is a needy QB team can give up a lot to move up the draft board to our position and we can gain a ton of picks. So I think we are in a good position as long as we don’t screw that up. Haha

  90. StoutGospel Says:

    Yup @BrianBucs and @813bucboi….yup!

    What do you bet Bucs fans….that all these proposals laid out here and responses in this thread….turn into another article, here. ?? Anyone want to lay a $20 on that?? Lol. Hmm. This guy will…

    1) Trade for JOHN Harbaugh–let him do whatever he pleases
    2) Trade Jameis for a 2nd rounder in 2019 draft to any one of 6 teams mentioned in post above. (JAX, CIN, MIA, NYG, OAK, DEN)
    3) Outbid JAX for Nick Foles
    4) Sign RB, draft RB, draft DT round 1, cut/trade McCoy, draft 3rd round CB

    Should make for a good start to 2019!!

  91. unbelievable Says:

    So all you arm chair GMs want to draft a new QB, and then stick him with:

    – A bottom 3 defense
    – A bottom 3 running game
    – a terribly overrated, inconsistent offensive line.

    And you think you’ll somehow see different results?

    Unreal. There are so many bigger holes on this roster than QB right now. Just smh how dumb this fan base is.

  92. SOEbuc Says:

    And would not be at all be against trading back for a lot of picks.

  93. LakeLand Says:

    unbelievable

    They called Andy Reid dumb for trading up for a QB
    And he had a proven playoff vet as his QB

    But how did that workout

  94. Not Americas QB Says:

    Will Grier please.

  95. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    ^^ Good god NO, please.

  96. Tye Says:

    Drew Lock could possibly be the top qb in this draft class but surely teams will move up in top 5 to get him if his NFL process goes well..

  97. Stokes963 Says:

    What a waisted pick a QB would be at 6.

  98. unbelievable Says:

    @Lakeland

    And how is their running game? How about their offensive line?

    Completely different situation.

    Oh and Reid is 10x the coach that Koetter is.

  99. Bucsfanman Says:

    We definitely need a kicker at #6!

  100. Fire Light Says:

    Go Bucs! Win on Sunday!!!!

  101. Fire Light Says:

    Dumbest fan base of all time. Bunch of Jameis hating, Licht loving losers who can’t form their own opinion. Scratch the surface a bit and you will see that 89% of the posters on this site are Jameis Bashers.

  102. Kobe Faker Says:

    “80 percent of the posters here work for our divisional rivals front office who dont want Koetter or Gump fired

    10 percent are family members of Koetter and lichts,

    5% are business associates that would have to close if both get fired

    And finally 5 percent who are truly bucs fans with mental disorders and addictions”

    Kobe Faker

  103. LakeLand Says:

    Lol Kobe,

    The long time Bucs fans suffers from LSD
    And it’s not the trip from the psychedelic drug

    It’s the trip from the ” Loser Stress Disorder”.

    With The Sixth Pick In The 2019 NFL Draft
    • DT – Jeffery Simmons – Height: 6-4 | Weight: 300 | Mississippi State

    Pairing him w/Vita Vea will give us a formidable 3-4 front…for years to come.

    The Ohio St. QB is an intriguing prospect.

    When you get a chance – give me your thoughts on the following prospects.
    • Sutton Smith | LB | Northern Illinois
    • Bobby Evans, OT, Oklahoma
    • Josh Jacobs | RB | Alabama
    • Kristian Fulton | CB | LSU

  107. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    My bad forgot about – LB D’Andre Walker – Georgia

  108. Kansas95Buc Says:

    I dont know how some people can call for a new QB when we have NO RUN game, ST isn’t reliable and the Defense is now looking better since firing M.Smith but it’s still suspect. Tom Brady couldn’t win here

  109. LakeLand Says:

    LUVMYBUCS,

    What you think about Ed Oliver?

  110. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Lakeland

    Ed’s decent – He’s nowhere in the same class as Aaron Donald. But I like what he brings to the table. I just go more respect for Simmons overall game though.

  111. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    I just *got more respect for Simmons overall game though.

  112. Todd Says:

    The best cb available greedy Williams is the pick we need

  113. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Trench warfare son. Everything else is just window dressing

  114. StoutGospel Says:

    C’mon now y’all….if this “Jeffery Simmons” were so good, then how come Nick (Saban) never showed up in his living room??! Haven’t heard squat about the Simmons kid, in Top 15 ranked SEC matchups against him all year long. And those games, are the only ones that matter, barring an outlier player, like a Khalil Mack, and he ain’t no Mack type outlier.

    Go watch Quentin Williams all year long, against the competition he faced, and how he mattered when he did.

    If Nick’s not in your living room there’s a reason, and vice versa.

    Anyway, it’s rhetorical.

    Go Get JOHN Harbaugh please Team Glazer!!

  115. SOEbuc Says:

    Waaaay to many posters on this list I’m not voting for new GM, Joe.

  116. JIMMY T Says:

    This site can’t go a day without getting the Jameis haters out in full force! Jameis will be back next year, and anyone who says Will Grier is an idiot! U r not gonna waste a pick for a tackle or a defensuve player and draft a QB AT 6, NO F ING WAY! One thing NEVER POINTED OUT is the 93 TDS JAMEIS HAS. He has 57 INTS! 93 FREAKING TDS, 84 passing & 9 rushing TDS & u want to get rid of him because of 17 strip sack blind side fumbles? He didn’t lose the cowboys game! 34-48 no picks, those fumble WERE NOT HIS FAULT! The only thing Stroud ever publishes is his “Total Turnovers” he NEVER mentions the TDS! So DAK PRESCOTT IS 30-16 in Dallas and Jameis is 21-32 here. Do any of u rocket scientists think Dak would be 30-16 here with NO D, NO EZECHIEL ELLIOT & a crappy coaching that wastes 2nd round picks as often as I change socks? Give it a REST for once

  117. SOEbuc Says:

    OneBucPerson

    “I want me some Greedy Williams in red and pewter, we need a #1 CB and I’m not convinced Davis is that guy (yet). If we don’t go Williams other options I would be fine with are Deionte Thompson, Devin White, Ed Oliver, or an offensive lineman like Jonah Williams, Greg Little, Jawann Taylor, or Cody Ford.”

    CBs are becoming too much of a risk to take in the first round since this has become a RIGGED pass happy league with total BS rules and refs calling total BS flags on pass defenders. ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE A BUC! Derwin James is one in a million. In this order on your list I’d go Ed Oliver, Devin White (let Kwon go), Jawann Taylor.

  118. D1QB Says:

    Jimmy,

    Blake Bortles has 97 TD’ s in the last 4yrs. That strip sack was a TD and what was the score again? Yes, holding the ball too long, not knowing where pressure is and holding the ball one handed is his fault. That’s basic 101 QB skills.

    Wins are a team result and Winston if we’re looking at wins only is lacking in the support dept. But that’s not the only nor does it prohibit JW from being evaluated.
    Add a better line, defense, kicking game, GM, Head Coach, etc….and the costs to make JW serviceable is ridiculous. Assuming all that changes, JW still has many many flaws in his game. Fundamental flaws that don’t go away with the addition of those 806 team changes. Either He gets his head screwed on right and listens to coaches or His inconsistencies will earn him a ticket out the game.

  119. QBKilla Says:

    Why even talk about a QB in the first round. I know that JW has turned the ball over to many times but he’s only 24 and he is our all time leader in TD passes. He’ll pass Testaverde for all time passing yards in less than 2 games. Jameis is our QB! We need help on the o-line and in the secondary.

  120. Jawo75 Says:

    At minimum Jamoist and Licht have to be shown the door. The QB situation should be our number one concern. We can’t move forward with an idiot that is incapable of reading a play clock. Plus he’s a turnover machine. Either draft a QB, with a new GM, or bring in a proven veteran like Foles. In which case I’d go defense with the 1st round pick. A change in direction is mandatory or the Glazers need to sell the team. Sunday used to be my favorite day, now I hate it. The fans deserve much better than this.

  121. JIMMY T Says:

    D1QB
    BLAKE BORTLES has played a full season Plus more than Jameis so don’t even ATTEMPT to compare. Name me a great QB that doesn’t have a running game of some sort or a half way decent defense? U act like Jameis was drafted by a good team! Being the number one pick MEANS U PLAY FOR A CRAPPY TEAM!!! Jameis WINSTON is 1 million times better than Bortles! Any one that compares him to that guy isn’t doing ANY RESEARCH! WHEN u play for a team that is down by a couple scores you tend to take more chances. All I know is in his ROOKIE YEAR he had them at 6-6 until Kwon was suspended. HORRIBLE TEAM that year However in 2015 they had a great year RUNNING THE FOOTBALL! You can’t win & BE PERFECT AS A QB without some semblance of balance! In Jameis 2 BS year 9-7 but remember our D was AWESOME THE LAST 8 games of the season! Last year he was hurt BUT the last 5 games, HEALTHY he was top 3 in NFL in QB RATING! If KOETTER had done the right thing and FIRED MIKE SMITH in the OFF season BUCS had enough talent on OFFENSE TO WIN! But instead KOETTER did nothing UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE! All ANY QB GOOD NEEDS IS is a mediocre D OR a decent run game! Not both so U R WRONG if I am saying the BUCS need to spend MORE FOR JAMEIS. It is their DUTY to put a decent D on the field!! Yeah let’s make NO CHANGES TO THE D & do NOTHING about run game & then les draft a QB! SHREWD, LOL!!

  122. JIMMY T Says:

    If u peel this season game by game it tells a story. This year so far Jameis has 15 TD Passes / 13 INTS & 1 Rushing TD
    BREAKDOWN
    AT Bears- JW came in cold, down 38-4 at half & was 16-20 w a TD & 2 INTS
    AT FALCONS- JW 1st start- 4 TDS / 2 INTS- absolutely NO D in that game, kicker misses easy FG & EXTRA POINT & we lose 34-29! Great game should have wonif we had a D & KICKER!
    Home vs Browns- 1 TD RUSHING, 2 INTS. W a 2 TD LEAD KOETTER kept throwing the freaking ball. 62 drop backs, 10 rushes for 55 yards, JW drive team & took a knee in the center of the field exactly where kicker wanted it & w no time on clock he missed game winning FG forcing game to OT. Over 110 plays in that game yet and 52 pass attempts yet Jameis is TRASHED EVEN THOUGH we won the game. He played FREAKING great in that game!
    AT CINCY- 1 TD ( BOMB TO DJAX) & 4 INTS! Benched, played horrible, woke up hearing DJAX wanted to be traded! Maybe just maybe that affected him because he was clueless in that game.
    After the benching including a quarter & a half against Giants and 5 other starts JAMEIS has thrown 9 TDS & has 3 INTS ( one pick was a Hail Mary on last play vs Saints) So basically Jameis since Bengals disaster has 9TDS & 2 picks. He played very well in 1st half vs Saints and Ravens, w good coaching no reason we should have lost saints game w a 14-3 lead, that’s in KOETTER! JW played VERY WELL against Cowboys, 34-48 w 13 check downs, no picks & 1 TD PASS. People blame Jameis for delay of game flag BUT THE HC SHOULD HAVE CALLED TIME OUT!
    The whole point to this is that JAMEIS has played very well. Football is a team game including COACHING! I believe OUR COACH checked out weeks ago after being told to fire his friend Mike Smith! Right then he proved to me that he is not interested in being a great winning HC like a Tomlin or a Sean Payton or John Harbaugh. KOETTER is just fine getting fired and making $7 mil over the next 2 years. New coach, fresh ideas & I guarantee u haters will change your tune and narrative RE JAMEIS!

  123. unbelievable Says:

    Nice breakdown Jimmy T, but dang man, use some paragraphs to make that ish more readable.

  124. D1QB Says:

    Jimmy,

    Let’s be clear, you posted Winston career TD’ s in caps and seemed exasperated that so many people don’t realize the amazing # of TD’ s Winston has…
    Well, so does Bortles and Tannehill. And they suck.

    So you’re not thinking , no I never made a case that Bortles is better than Winston. Winston is without a doubt better than Bortles. But comparing them to each other you’d not know who was superior. You posted totals for Winston, so stick to your guns.

    TD’ s…INT…Fumbles
    83…..57……16
    92…..57…….19

    Last 4 seasons. Excluding last game.
    Winston (games played 58)
    Bottles. (games played 60)

    87 TDs …54 INTs………Ryan Tannehill.

  125. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    And add the off the field crapola to the equation (which Joe is remiss to mention often), and the decision is easy.

  126. JIMMY T Says:

    D1QB
    KOETTERS offense is not a dink and dunk west coast offense. It is a down the field throwing offense. Jameis learned based on these last 5 games plus half of the Giants game to use his checkdowns. Basically 2 picks in 5 games, we won 2 & should have beaten the Saints. Geez all I’m saying is bring in a real coach with a competent staff & let’s see what happens. I don’t need to compare Jameis to Bortles & Tanneyhill, Jameis is head and shoulders better than those two. Let’s just agree to disagree! I want to draft a D OR O lineman with the high draft pick NOT A QB!
