Season Over For Carl Nassib?

December 27th, 2018

“Hey, Carl. They might do the smart thing and let me play since you’re all messed up.”

A bright spot shining through the dark cloud hovering over One Buc Palace is Carl Nassib, the Browns castoff turned Jason Licht feather off the left edge of the Bucs’ defensive line.

But Nassib has missed two consecutive practices, including today’s, and it’s reasonable now to assume he’ll miss the season finale.

Frankly, the Bucs should sit the guy if he’s hurt. What the hell is the point of playing him? Nassib will earn peanuts next season in Year 3 of his rookie contract. So he’s sure to be back with the Bucs and he’s certainly well worth his salary.

Nassib has one sack, seven solo tackles and four tackles for loss in his last four games. If he sits out Sunday against Atlanta, 25-year-old Nassib will finish the season with 6.5 sacks, 22 solo tackles and 12 tackles for loss, all career highs. At 6-7, 275 pounds, he’s an exciting prospect.

Free Noah Spence against Atlanta. The new Bucs head coach might like to see a game’s worth of fresh film on Spence, who has been doing a whole lot of nothing all season.

DeSean Jackson and Devante Bond joined Nassib as Bucs who didn’t practice today.

    Noah Spence will never make another NFL roster.

  2. The Coroner Says:

    Put every injured Buc on the bench. What is the usefulness of playing an injured player at this point?

  3. Stevbobucsfan Says:

    Hope the Bucs keep Nassib for a while to see what his potential is. Seems that it could be very good. Bucs are good at getting rid of good plays and signing ones thats not worth a crap

  4. adam from ny Says:

    carl “the arabian knight” nassib is learning at hyper speed how to be a solid bookend from jpp…this is clearly a fact…this is a good thing in tampa…

    however the past few weeks the sacks have really dropped off for both jpp and the arabian knight…

    dude fell of the face of the earth…the oddest most undocumented questionable career collapse in recent tampa history…besides bobby aguayo of course…

    Dirk says Spence isn’t a LB. The new regime might think otherwise.

  7. Ndog Says:

    Is it possible that the next coaching staff will useu our players to their strengths. Who has ever heard of such a thing, that is propostureous.

  8. bucsince79 aka Bumaneer Says:

    Lots of 2nd round busts… Great wavier wire PU On Nassib though…

  9. JimmyJack Says:

    Dirk also said Marpet was a C. He also said that Doug Martin was our best rusher last year. He’s also had three years of working with Benechot and never realized he wasn’t starter material.

  10. Boogie Says:

    @the coroner everyone is injured at this point in the season bro

  11. Rick Says:

    I hope we can keep this guy. He’s been a better signing than curry, unrein, and the other person I can’t remember( not JPP)

  13. BucBargainBin Says:

    Sit Nassib even if he’s 100%. We’ve seen enough from him and look forward to next season and hopefully sign him to an extension

    Everyone who is coming up for contract or who is normally a backup who isn’t injured should play this next game so we can see what we have.

    The Bucs would free up lots of money by cutting all the overpriced underachievers.

  14. WutdaBucisthis Says:

    Gotta love the way the dude brings it. Having #94 on the field this year was a present surprise in this misery full season. Ice em though.
    Still hoping we switch to a 3-4 next year.
    If K.B can come back healthy, we have the horses to pull it off…imo
    Go Bucs

  15. Buc4evr Says:

    Spence is a LB, maybe not a good one but he sure isn’t a DE. I was hoping they would give him a chance at LB earlier this season with all the injuries… but noooo.

  16. BucEmUp Says:

    Hopeless this team is. Who wants to put $100.00 he makes plays somewhere else when he gets cut.

  17. BucEmUp Says:

    This will be another Mark Barron deal, except Barron was a first round pick used poorly, this is just a second round pick….pfft!!!

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

    Spence must be still healing. What other reason makes logical sense for his disappearance? Spence, the twilight zone edition.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Spence never had anything worth showing. He made a couple plays in the beginning, but has bombed since.

    He came into this year looking good and healthy, and then showed no talent.

    Kwon, Humphries and Smith are the big free agents on the team after this season. Licht cannot be fired because he can get them at good prices. The Glazers take their time making decisions, and we cannot afford to delay offers.

    So Licht cannot be let go. In fact, he will get a new deal almost immediately after the season.

  20. BrianBucs Says:

    Nassib has been a pleasant surprise. We’ve all seen what he can do. If he’s even a little bit hurt then he should sit.
    There’s nothing to play for Sunday. The game should be treated as an audition for some of the younger players. Ryan Griffin, Ronald Jones and Noah Spence should get some time

    —————-
    Spence is definitely a lb and Kwon is definitely a safety.

  22. Waterboy Says:

    I can’t wait to some day hear/read the real story of what happened to Spence. There’s something very odd about that whole situation. He showed promise as a rookie and got injured early in his sophomore season and totally fell off the map in year 3.

  23. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

    JPP has stated multiple times, that if your football isn’t good, Buckner won’t play you. That’s what’s most likely happening with Noah. I was really excited to see what he could do this year, but now I feel like he won’t even make the roster next year.

  24. adam from ny Says:

    this is actually the 5th pre-season game of the season…that’s how you should look at it

  25. Todd Says:

    Sit Nassib and TANK THIS EFFING GAME!

    OL, play every play like it’s a screen! Hold, hold, hold! Lots of personal foul penalties please. Stop playing before the whistle. You know…kind of like you normally do.

    Jamies, try to be a rushed hero on EVERY play! Don’t take sacks. Get rid of the damned ball down the middle of the field! Let the play clock run off before the snap! Throw a deep ball to Jackson on the sidelines. Grab a cheerleaders crotch after a strip sack six.

    Dirk, take back the play calling. Please. Bring Mike Smith back as defensive coach for one last game. It’s the “good friend” thing to do.

    D-Line, be VERY Velcro. Encroach. NO sacks. Mis-tackle. Play with fireworks before the game.

    Secondary…just carry on. Be Grimes.

    Execute this game plan and PICK NUMBER FOUR in the draft.

    Don’t f-(& it up!!!!!!!

    Do SOMETHING right this season!!!

    DB55- “Spence is definitely a lb and Kwon is definitely a safety.”

    Kwon would be a good safety if he learns how to tackle better. Almost like a reverse Mark Barron! It’s not as crazy as it sounds.

  27. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    In a season full of frustrations and disappointments, Carl Nassib has been a bright light.

    He shows promise. As a kid who was picked up off the Cleveland Browns scrap-heap, he’s got skills and a great motor.

    I remember watching Hard Knocks and being disappointed when the kid was cut from the Browns. I really liked what I saw (at least in the training camp clips that we were shown).

    I was really happy when the Bucs picked him up, but obviously NONE of us knew that he was going to show the promise that he has.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I mean… what the HELL happened to him??!!!!
    He literally fell of the face of the earth.
    Very frustrating.
  29. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    I am kind of glad that Noah Spence has not actually been cut yet. Just in case (as some of you have said) he is just suited to play in a different type of scheme defensively….. and he turns out to still be an asset, we will not have lost him. We will still have him here, if that is the case.
    DB55 Says:
    “Spence is definitely a lb and Kwon is definitely a safety.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    Wow, I had not heard anyone else mention Kwon possibly being a Safety. Do you think he has good enough cover skills? — I will say that just based on heart alone, I would really like to keep Kwon here.

  31. Easy Says:

    Nassib is a baller. That guy plays his a$$ off on every play!f

  32. TOM Says:

    Beckwith should be MLB, not Kwon. I hear people say DE is one of our weak positions & we need to draft a DE. I think just the opposite that DE is one of our strengths with JPP & Nassib. What more can you ask for?

  33. SOEbuc Says:

    Cut Curry and Unrein. Keep Spence. Trade back in the first for a DT, use the rest of our picks in first through the third round to stack up OL, DL, and one CB.

  34. SOEbuc Says:

    Nassib has good hand movement and pushes it to the limit every time.

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

    SOE- Why keep Spence? I’m curious. He’s been outplayed by “scrubs” at almost every turn except his rookie year. You thinking a move to LB might vault him?
