Saints 28, Buccaneers 14
December 9th, 2018Ugly, ugly, ugly loss today by the Buccaneers.
Special teams killed them and the offense didn’t do them any favors.
And they got sloppy with an array of dumb penalties when they needed to show poise. Yes, the Bucs imploded, a signature of Dirk Koetter era, which likely will be an afterthought in a matter of days.
After a great start to the game and a 14-3 halftime lead, the Bucs delivered the pain the home faithful are far too accustomed to. Call it a groin-stomp, a slap in the face, whatever. It’s unacceptable.
Bad chemistry with DeSean Jackson? Today it was Jameis Winston and Chris Godwin misfiring repeatedly.
Jameis started strong and played with fire, but at the end of the day he completed less than 50 percent of his passes. Not good enough, especially at home.
Joe feels badly for the Bucs defense, which did nearly everything you could have asked. The Saints entered this game averaging just under 35 points per game. Yes, 35.
As Joe Twittered during the game, Mike Smith should buy a billboard apologizing to Bucs fans. Look at what this defense has done without him over the past eight games, including against New Orleans.
Last Sunday, the offense couldn’t put the game away against Carolina, and they relied on the defense. This week, the offense was even worse when it had a shot to shovel dirt on the Saints.
Joe is full regime-change mindset now that a winning season is out of reach. The Saints adapted and adjusted while the Bucs did the opposite with a veteran offense, veteran special teams players and a veteran quarterback — at home.

Bye Coach. Have a nice life.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:14 pm
For once, this loss is NOT on Jameis. I think he played well today, or at least well enough to win. For the 3rd straight week he didn’t turn the ball over. He missed a few throws in the 4th and couldn’t hit the deep ball, but it’s not his fault that Godwin got shut down by the atrocious Eli Apple, or that Santos missed two field goals, or the blocked punt, or the fact that Donovan Smith and Demar Dotson had almost a combined 10 penalties.
I’m not a Jameis Lover, but you can’t put this on him.
In other news, did GMC even have a tackle today?
December 9th, 2018 at 4:14 pm
Jameis blew this game…he can not hit anything but a stationary target…all that pocket scrambling is because he is waiting for a WR to come to a stop….time to draft a real modern ear NFL QB…
December 9th, 2018 at 4:14 pm
Bye dirk. You won’t be missed
December 9th, 2018 at 4:15 pm
Hey Joe,
Tell big fat softie Gerald McCoy that he’s a BIG FAT SOFTIE!!!!
December 9th, 2018 at 4:15 pm
America’s Turnover Machine struck again.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
It’s laughable how so many continue to make excuses for Jameis. Sure, it wasn’t one of his worst games, but it still lacks the “it” factor to be a top NFL QB.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are insane if they sign Winston to a long-term contract.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Update: Winston with an interception
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
This loss was on Special Teams and the defense. Just like most of our games this year and last.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Bye bye Jirk!
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Sean Payton made adjustments at the half. Something Koetter doesn’t know anything about. Saints D brought more pressure in the 2nd half. The OL sucks. I’m not a Jameis fan, but he was hung out to dry a lot by D. Smith and a couple times he should have probably just got rid of the ball earlier than take a sack. Overall, it was a tale of 2 halves and a punt block that swung the momentum.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
The Winston haters LOVED this game. We won the turnover battle, there wasn’t any legit INTs, Winston didn’t force the ball – this is exactly the game that the Winston haters said he needs to play. They should be super excited about this game!
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Peyton Barber sucks!!! Do we all see it now. I know. I know. He falls forward.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:16 pm
Bring on Mike McCarthy!
December 9th, 2018 at 4:17 pm
Yup. His only chance was a win out. Instead they put this slip out there. Goodnight.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:17 pm
True to form, JayMiss returned to RayJay.
The late pick meant nothing, since a true franchise QB would have found a way to make it competitive.
Goodbye Dirk Koetter, we won’t miss ya
December 9th, 2018 at 4:17 pm
I don’t hold the pick against Winston at all. Evans fell down. Game was unwinnable.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:17 pm
Winston America’s Quarterback chose to scream at his center today. And never scored another point after that. Winston is not a good quarterback. Dirk is not a good coach and Jason is not a good GM.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:17 pm
Koetter is a terrible coach. He allowed this team fail today on offense. Simply pathetic. You don’t need to run a confidence poll anymore for me. He needs to go. I’m disgusted. Sick of this sh** with a clueless coach.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:18 pm
bucs should just put “Elite Blocking Dummies” at the tackle position they block as well and won’t commit as many penalties. dotson once again proves he is total garbage that receives free pass after free pass from low standard bucfan… bucs offensive line is beyond embarrassing strat from scratch completely.

______
Winston didn’t throw to wide open receivers and he over threw a lot of passes. We gotta take baby steps with Winston because he’s not that good.
Not turning the ball over is a good first step. Next he needs to read the field better and make more accurate throws. Also needs to complete DEEP passes to DJAX.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:19 pm
Tale of 2 Half’s.
2nd half…….25-0 Sean Payton over Dirk
December 9th, 2018 at 4:19 pm
You Jameis Haters deserve a losing franchise for the next 20 years
December 9th, 2018 at 4:19 pm
I still think 8-8 could keep Koetter. A lot of factors went into this year.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:19 pm
Let the race to the bottom begin, Daddy needs a high 1st-round draft pick! I hope they treat the rest of the season as a 2nd pre-season, see what they have in the backup players, and experiment to give the new incoming head coach a better idea of what he’s working with.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:19 pm
the team played with zero heart when faced with adversity…. dotson had more penalty yards than both teams rushing combined I think.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:20 pm
Call it what you will. Another Dirk blowout is my label
December 9th, 2018 at 4:20 pm
I knew this game would be a bellwether for the team’s future. Just as Joe said, the Saints were able to adjust at halftime, the Bucs weren’t. That’s on Dirk. Sorry to see him go, but can’t support him any longer.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:20 pm
Ok with a regime change but come up with some good options. We don’t need change for just change.
Sean Payton and Drew Brees threw away two time outs mismanaging the clock.
That team has failed to find a 2nd receiver besides Thomas and had about 4 years in a row where they were the worst defense.
Just have a plan – which I have not seen from the Joe’s.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:20 pm
Calling the same play three times in a row didn’t help. Monken blew that one.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:20 pm
Once again koetter gets out coached. Plz fire him now!! Y did he take the foot off the gas of all teams…Brees n the Saints. No creativity. Y didn’t koetter get as many points as possible before the rain start pouring down again. On the first field goal miss would’ve been the perfect time for a fake field goal being that our defense was gelling at the time. Student body left n right is all koetter could think of. And, get rid of softie big giant DSmith. As a matter of fact get rid of both…Rhyan n Donavan Smith. It’s time for a coach change.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:21 pm
I gotta hand it to ya, Pear Shaped Petey…hanging on that Koetter 2 year extension fantasy and Licht stays on vs out. I like your tenacity.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:21 pm
This one was a heartbreaker. Bucs score first 7-0. They scored again and were ahead at the half. Here come the penalties. Koetter never called no huddle/2 minute drills for Jameis. If he had, Bucs would have won. DKoetter doesn’t seem to get the great offense he has built. Guess HC material, he ain’t. Shame.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:22 pm
#7423 – It’s not about W’s, it’s about not turning the ball over, that’s what you called for all year, you should be STOKED to finally get what you called for! Don’t throw the ball downfield, don’t be aggressive, nah, just do a Mike Glennon impersonation and all would be well.
So you got what you want and STILL complain? Seems pretty dishonest to me.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:23 pm
Winston off target, but he never had a clean pocket. So many drives stalled by penalties. We need to see what we have with Cappa, Lietke and Wester.
Koetter’s not going to play for next year because he know’s he’s not going to be hear. They need to fire Koetter now and instruct Monken or Duffner to test the new guys.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:24 pm
100 percent fire coach tonight who is charge here fire coach tonight I can point to 3 times this year team has
Missed a field goal and can’t handle it so the team just quit after they made some basic mistakes that is coaching 100 percent fire the coach right now and send a loud message
December 9th, 2018 at 4:25 pm
Trying to post and can’t. Being censored or tech problems?
December 9th, 2018 at 4:27 pm
What’s wrong with you idiots. A true franchise quarterback? Stop talking like the other quarterbacks in this division dont have losing seasons. Every quarterback because less than than what they can be with all day pressure. Stop talking about what a franchise would do because you sound stupid when you make it seem like franchise quarterbacks shouldn’t lose, especially when you have a trash head coach and trash o line. I don’t see Phillip rivers with a bunch of playoffs and winning seasons and he’s a great qb so duh do the math.
Now even the defense has adjusted, something the head coach doesn’t get involved and somehow the offense was the weak link. Bye Felicia it’s time for a new coach
December 9th, 2018 at 4:29 pm
Winston sucked this game and he is what he is just an average qb….and rod the only stat that matters is W and winston and the licht era do not have many of those
fire licht and let next regime decide on jameis future

December 9th, 2018 at 4:29 pm
Is it just me or can’t we hang this game on special teams……2 missed FGs and a blocked punt turned the game around.
I also hated the playcalling after their fumble……two runs and a short pass (incomplete)……lacked aggression…..WEAK!!!

Well yeah everyone is happy Jamies isn’t turning the ball over anymore. Now tell me what bucs fan you know is happy about not winning?
December 9th, 2018 at 4:31 pm
Rod-
Maybe Mike McCarthy can come in and turn Winston into an Aaron Rodgers
December 9th, 2018 at 4:33 pm
This team has no heart, no leadership. Magoo isn’t a leader. Cancer93 isn’t a leader. Dirk isn’t a leader.
Why some of yall love Magoo so much is beyond me. He is a college great has-been and an NFL Never-would-be. He is an average NFL qb. Yes he has stats, but true franchise qb are winners. Magoo is not a winner at the NFL level.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:33 pm
TBBucfan, totally agree. When you have an opponent down, go attack mode and hold him down by the throat.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:37 pm
If we keep Koetter, I’m going to lose it. Today proved that he is not a professional head coach. My wife was calling out the run plays by our offense for crying out loud. Not hard for an opposing defense to look good when our formations give away the plays. Our talent on offense is overcoming Koetter’s shortcomings in play calling.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:43 pm
I applaud Jameis for cleaning up the stupid interceptions and being more secure with the ball….but it’s also clear that he is a long way from being an “elite” QB in this league. I’m still not convinced that he will ever be more than what he is now….an inconsistent signal caller who is nothing more than a mid-level QB at best.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:44 pm
Koetter is done….Licht should be. This team has too much invested in the o-line and TEs to not have a running game. Our biggest free agent signing is “injured” and never was all that effective. The kickers have cost this team at least a game, possibly two per year. That’s on Licht.
December 9th, 2018 at 4:45 pm
@JOE … “Joe is full regime-change mindset now that a winning season is out of reach. The Saints adapted and adjusted while the Bucs did the opposite with a veteran offense, veteran special teams players and a veteran quarterback — at home.”
WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE JOE. And by FULL regime-change I assume you mean Licht goes too.
On another note, yes Jameis passed terribly today (less than 50%), BUT … he wasn’t the reason we lost this game. Look first at the OLine & our Not-So-Special Teams. Look next at our RBs who wasted play after play. Throw in a Secondary whose idea of pass defense is keeping opposing QBs around 80% completion rate. LOTS of reasons for this loss today, and LOTS of reasons to expect a LOT of changes this off-season.
December 9th, 2018 at 5:10 pm
I don’t blame the loss solely on Jay Miss. The offensive line was pretty offensive. We have no running backs worth a damn. Special teams were especially bad. However, Jay Miss stunk it up in the 2nd half. On a decent day, he’s an average QB in this league, nothing more. He is not upper echelon.
December 9th, 2018 at 5:16 pm
We will never be a consistent offense until we get a running back. You can’t win consistently with zero threat at RB. Brees sucked big time in the first half. What did the saints do in the second half? They gave the ball to their two good running backs to get them back in the game. The saints against us just ignored the run and played the pass in the second half. Oh the OL sucked all game too. Penalties, missed blocks, are becoming all to common game to game. Winston played pretty good in the first half, but the missed field goal in the first half hurt. Then in the second half the 2nd missed field goal was a big blow. That’s 6 points that killed us. I am sick and tired of having no threat at RB.We drafted Jones and we refuse to use him (that’s on Koetter). When we finished last year we all said we needed a number one RB either thru the draft or free agency. Koetter refuses to play Jones, so basically we have the same RBs playing that finished last year. It’s not acceptable. We didn’t even pick up a veteran RB for depth. It’s time for Koetter and Licht to go. New leadership is sorely needed.
December 9th, 2018 at 6:11 pm
YEs, Jameis needs to take a sack (only as a last resort). Quicker decision-making by either throwing to the short outlet target or just throw it away.
But we just don’t see that. He was good for a half but his overthrows started in the 1st half and accelerated in the 2nd. Below 50% completion percentage. Uggh.
December 9th, 2018 at 6:57 pm
So the Bucs dont score in second half
Jamies misses half his throws to Godwin
And he owns none of this
COME ON JOE … Apparently you missed this. –Joe. https://www.joebucsfan.com/2018/12/bad-jameis-body-language-flat-offensive-lne/
December 9th, 2018 at 8:17 pm
Time to play for a better draft pick ! Am I right or am I right ? What’s the point of winning a game ? We did that last year when we won the last game against NO. We screwed ourselves in that we couldn’t pick the best OL guard to come out in the last decade. Wins from now on mean absolutely nothing..
December 9th, 2018 at 9:58 pm
Koetter isn’t the problem with this team.
