Ronde: Another Prove-It Year Coming For Jameis

December 29th, 2018

Back in April, Bucs legend Ronde Barber put his foot down on what Jameis Winston needed to accomplish during the 2018 season.

Jameis didn’t get it done, based on what Barber said back then.

“Jameis has the talent, the moxie, the whatever it is, the attitude, the leadership qualities to lead this team to where it needs to go. He just needs to do it,” Barber said in April. “I think he has the right people around. I love his quarterback coach. [Mike] Bajakian is a great quarterback coach. Dirk Koetter puts a lot of faith in Jameis. And in his fourth year, I mean, it’s time. It’s time.”

Yes, inconsistent Jameis is 3-5 this season. And now he’s got play-clock reading problems.

Barber said this week on CBS Sports Radio that he’s studied the ups and downs of Jameis and believes he’ll get another season to try to lead the Bucs to glory.

“I think he’ll get another year to prove whether he is or not [the guy in Tampa],” Barber said. “You know, this is a production-based business. I hate when coaches say that, but it’s very true.”

“Look, the kid’s got talent,” Barber continued. “I see enough of the good, but what’s encouraging is I’m seeing less of the bad. … The nature of his play has definitely improved.”

Ronde’s brother Tiki was hosting the interview and he said he thinks Jameis needs a better understanding of his limitations.

“I just feel like something he feels like he’s a better athlete than he actually is,” Tiki said of Jameis. Ronde Barber laughed in response and did not comment.

On the immediate future of the Bucs after another bad season, Ronde, a close friend of general manager Jason Licht, said he is in the dark.

“Who knows what they’ll do? I don’t know what’s going forward with the organization, my organization,” Barber said. “But they obviously have decisions to make.”

    Couldn’t agree more with Ronde, aside from Jameis knowing his “limitations”..it’s hard to accept being on a losing team..you always find yourself, as a competitor, wanting to do more to help your team find a way to win. The Oregon game is a microcosm of how Jameis has had to try to keep the Bucs afloat during his tenure as Bucs qb. He needs to be handed the keys and treated like a REAL franchise qb, or, let him go to a REAL team with a REAL fanbase. He has tried to play more reserved and with the right pieces around him he’s a rare commodity. Trubisky, Mayfield, Wentz ALL struggle to match his talent, preparation, or production..and I’m fans of ALL of them

  2. tbbucs3 Says:

    Jameis needs a new off-season QB coach. Clearly he’s not getting better with George Whitfield and his off-season beach training. It’s great that Jameis is able to take drop backs into the ocean but he’s still turning over the football way too much. He needs someone who has actually played QB at the NFL level to train him. Someone with experience like Peyton or Carson Palmer.

  3. Cobraboy Says:

    One wonders, should the Glazers make a clean sweep, what part of the discussions with a New GM and/or HC are regarding Winston.

    What if the Glazers are committed to Winston but GM and/or HC candidates are not?

    I don’t see any decision on Winston’s future being made until well after the new hire is/are done.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

    I am in favor of Jamyth getting his 5th year option picked up BUT only if L&K stay….if not the Jamyth humpers will be saying ” He needs more time with the new HC and he had to learn a new offense” as another excuse for all the bonehead plays….

  5. ben Says:

    Lets home the bucs don’t settle for mediocrity ,,,again!!

  6. Easy Says:

    Let’s see if Dabo Sweeney keeps Winston…. Yup I said it, Dabo Sweeney.

  7. BrianBucs Says:

    Yep, another year to prove that he is a Bust.
    And another year for all of us Bucs fans to go through all of the Winston drama and another frustrating losing season.
    Thank You Glazers

  8. AlteredEgo Says:

    Can’t FIX inaccuracy….everything else can be improved….
    guy is simply a C+ NFL QB…..he will never be elite…NEVER

  9. Dan Says:

    How many prove it years does this 1st overal pick get. This is laughable at this point. He’s a backup and not a very good one. Move on Tampa do you need a 5th year to decide. So sad.

  10. Rick Says:

    That’s what I think. Let’s see what someone else gets out of him. Plus, it lets the Bucs improve the run game. That will help his game tremendously.

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Pete Carmichael OC Saints. Has worked with Brees for years now and a great chance to poach a division rivals coach in waiting.

  12. Crazed Bucs fans Says:

    IF… for some reason we release #3, we had better get Dwayne Haskins!

  13. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Hey Jameis go out there and lose so we can call you a tanking loser.

  14. Troy Says:

    Here’s the thing – Gone are the days of the deals that will cripple a franchise for years if they go sour. Jameis may end up getting an extension, but I’m betting it will be built in such a way that the team can walk away from the deal with very little dead money.

  15. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Hey Jamies,

    Go out there and do what you do best, turn the ball over!!!!

  16. Chris Says:

    How many prove it Years does jameis get?
    Hear me out. Wentz year two- lights up the league. Mahomes in his first year is absolutely a stud. And in his 4 losses averages 37 PPG 16tds and 4 picks. The defense in KC is worse than the bucs giving up 40 per in 4 losses.
    Deshaun Watson made a huge splash last year and has one of the worst OL in the league.

    Now I see Sam darnold and baker mayfield tearing it up and their OLs are nothing special and Baker came in losing the HOF joe thomas to retirement.

    To me their are too many excuses made for jameis in Tampa which means we have weak minded thinking. The weapons are their. Listening to Ian Beckles he will criticize the OL but you can say every team in the league can improve that unit. Jameis just lacks field vision and consistently seeing the open receiver has been a problem since Florida state.

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

    Bingo ! Chris

  18. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Forgetting the suspension and the “off the field” history for just a moment….After 4 seasons of NFL experience, there are at least 18 – 20 other Quarterbacks in the NFL right now that I would consider an instant upgrade over Jameis Winston…some of them (like Wentz, Mahomes, Mayfield, etc.) are even younger than Jameis. That just does not bode well for a guy taken #1 overall, and who had such lofty expectations placed upon him.

    Sure, bring him back for 1 more year and see if he can turn it around…and stay out of trouble off the field. But I would DAMN SURE be drafting another QB (like Haskins or Lock) this spring in case he can’t!

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Scheme and playcalling is everything in the modern NFL. Kobe is surprised in the lack of Xs and Os of Rondes knowledge

    Didnt ronde rememember what kind of offense we had in 2016 with Charles sims in the backfield on 3rd down. that aspect of pass catching rb to an outlet has been completely gone this year

    scheme has completely changed Goff and Trubinsky. The use of Gurly and Cohen as pass catchers creates numerous explosive plays and breaks defense down settingup the deep passing game

    Seems ronde is a prettyboy instead of teacher… Mike Kardashian? Please Kobe has had enough of the family

    Too much to mention with soo little time left

    Desperate times call for Desperate measures

    Jason Gump stays, Kobe Faker goes

    2 days and 6 hours and change”

    Kobe Faker

  20. G-Money Says:

    For all of the “Great” comments, and analysis I read on this web; It just amazes me how opinions sound like experts who have never played sports,played football, and I’m sure has never applied for positions in the NFL !!!!

    Loosing is a culture here, because you fans only want to blame the player. The winningest coach in Bucs history got ran out of town, and you loosers are still hanging on to what Gruden did “ONCE” and how is that working out in Oakland?

    This fan base has no loyalty, the ownership has no loyalty, and you still expect to just put a little water on it and heat it up like instant grits!!!!

    Find a HC that can build stability here; Like Dungy did!! and put the work in to make us relevant again and the wins will come; it starts from the top PERIOD !!
    “BUCS for life”

  21. SteveK Says:

    I’m all for bringing Jameis back and drafting a QB! May the best man win.

  22. Jim Says:

    These final four games were supposed to be “prove it” for Jameis. So was this entire year and the year before that and the year before that. So yeah, give him another year,..he will get endless “chances” along with endless excuses, but for God’s sake draft another QB…

  23. Crazed Bucs fans Says:

    If not Jameis, Haskins, damn it!!!

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I have and will support Jameis until he’s no longer a Buc…..but one has to ask….

    For a “NFL ready” Quarterback (what we were told as the reason for drafting him) why does it take 5 years to find out what we have?

    I think we know what we have and what we will have with Jameis…..can we win with him?…..yes…..but everything else about the team has to be right and it certainly isn’t.

  25. Bird Says:

    It will be the “it’s a new system “ excuse next year.

    He gets another year but I’ve seen this movie. Hope I’m wrong.
    He has been average and plays good in a few games each year . You wouldn’t know it if you are a FSU fan on this website.

    Here he is Jesus Christ walking on water and obsessive joe is an Apostle

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Dewey Selmon Says:
    “Pete Carmichael OC Saints. Has worked with Brees for years now and a great chance to poach a division rivals coach in waiting.”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hmmm.. Definitely an interesting thought, Dewey!
  27. EEK Says:
    Winston has shown us his range and demonstrated his capacity – inconsistency.
    Maybe better for all to move on and start fresh.
  28. Stanglassman Says:
    Mahomes this year and Wentz last year (coming off the knee surgery this year he never looked the same) were better than Jameis. Baker is alright, has a great defense I think time will tell with that example. I’d like to hear the other 12 examples.
    The last thread someone else was saying maybe we would have been better off winning the last game we tanked and taken Mariota. I think the Titans would have a Super Bowl already with Winston. Koetter and Mariota would be long gone years ago.
    Did the Bucs always have such a bunch of losers for fans?!
  29. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Jeagan1999 Says:
    “But I would DAMN SURE be drafting another QB (like Haskins or Lock)”
    ——————–
    I just don’t think we have the luxury of drafting a QB that high, when we don’t need one. We have too many other needs. How about (for once) actually drafting a Tackle in the First Round?
  30. Season Is Over Says:
    They need the next six years to see what they have in Winston.
  31. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    LOL, c’mon Season!
  32. DooshLaRue Says:
    I agree with what Tiki said.
    Jay-miss thinks he can do more physically than he’s actually capable of.
    And Joe, that suit your Soiled Messiah is wearing in that pic is WAY worse than Licht’s Ron Burgundy jacket.
  33. LakeLand Says:
    The Bucs will be wise to draft a QB in 2020
    The QB pool will be a lot deeper with talent
    They will probably get another top-10 pick in 2020
    I love Dwayne Haskins this season
    But give Winston a shot with better coaching and scheme
  34. Im tired and 87 is right Says:
    Chris every one of those teams has a solid defense and running game with the exception of KC defense. Also it’s not like on offense we weren’t moving the ball up and down the field we just couldn’t score points due to the fact teams were playing the pass the entire time with no threat of a running game. Another reason Jameis had so many rushing yards. This team was one dimensional in the red zone, and teams knew it.
    Can’t FIX inaccuracy….everything else can be improved….
    guy is simply a C+ NFL QB…..he will never be elite…NEVER
    Well he’s not inaccurate so that’s not a problem now is it Altered?
  36. Ndog Says:
    See this is why this team always sucks, indecision! We have a QB just focus on the rest of the team and get better overall. That’s how you win with a TEAM!!!
  37. Buccfan37 Says:
    If you are lucky you get to win one Super Bowl title in your lifetime. Pats, Steelers and other multi SB winners are greedy pigs.
  38. Pete I Says:
    So another year of losing…ah well it comes so naturally these days
    Dirk = 19–28
    Licht = 27-52
    Winston = 21-32
    Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 130.
  39. WalkdaPlank Says:
    Name another QB that took 5 years to blossom into a star.
    Maybe 2 or 3, hell I might even give you 4.
    But 5? Jameis is serviceable but he will never be the best QB in the NFC South let alone among the best of the NFL.
    The only reason I’m on board with bringing him back is we don’t have a viable replacement for him….yet
  40. tbbucs3 Says:
    Yes NDog
    The Bucs don’t have a team. We can win with this QB whether some fans wanna hear it or not.
  41. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:
    Winston has proven over the course of the last 4 years what he is – a turnover prone, inaccurate bonehead who makes even worse decisions off the field. Take the keys away from him please.
  42. Ndog Says:
    So Alvin do you think that a predictable offense with no running game and spotty oline and playing from behind constantly might have something to do with the turnovers over the past 4 years? And has he not gotten better with his emotions?
    So let’s get this straight right when he has gotten his emotions under control, gotten his completion% at it’s career best and is making great decisions off the field you want to get rid of him? So you want us to go through all the learning phases of his career then let someone else benefit from that time we spent?
    Great plan and should work out well for some body else.
    SMH at you people.
  43. TheNorm Says:
    Ndog
    You are truly and idiot. You top all other idiots.
    Just absolutely pathetic. Please just shut up.
    All you do is cherry pick your bullsh i t to fit your pathetic narrative.
    Everyone knows he’s not elite. No matter what you think or feel he’s an average QB at best.
  44. TheNorm Says:
    Ndog
    You actually think YOU are the smartest person on these boards with your moronic attempts to defend your boy and all you do is make yourself look more stupid EVERYDAY.
    Sometimes it’s better to just shut UP.
  45. Ndog Says:
    Again Norm more hard facts to defend your clear hate of OUR teams QB.
    If he’s so average then why has he accomplished things only few have.
    #facts
  46. AleteredEgo Says:
    Ndog….the game has passed Jamyth’s skill set by….which was playing on a college team with superior talent to the opponents and throw up ally hoop balls to superior WR’s..and still be able to overcome his bonehead plays…FSU booted his azz down the road
  47. TheNorm Says:
    Yea and the stat you ignore the most is the most turnovers since he’s come in the league lmao.
    But it’s everyone else fault.
    If he was elite or a true franchise QB then there wouldn’t be any question about it. And I don’t hear any analyst anywhere say it’s set in stone that he’s the future. Everyone literally everyone is not sure. And that is all the proof I need. You just have your head so far up his as s you can see out of his nose.
  48. TheNorm Says:
    He barely cracks the top 15 maybe. And that is not elite.
    He’s average. And everyone that isn’t an FSU jock sniffer knows it.
    All you do is blame everyone and everything for his short comings.
    You literally place zero blame on him AT ALL.
  49. Ndog Says:
    Not even close to true, he forces throws at times, he tries to be a hero at times, makes dumb decisions at times, and he has done some really stupid stuff off the field. But those are things that players with great work ethic, which he has, can get better at. Also the off field items have not happened in over 2 years and usually get better with age (marriage and children can help as well as priorities change). Also, like I have been saying over and over, any player that wants to win is going to push the envelope to won games which causes errors. But that is what he feels he has to do cause we ARE GOING TO GET UP POINTS and WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO RUN YHE BALL. Now should he force those plays no but shouldn’t we also not put him or anyone else in that position? How about we try that and see what we got. So you say 15 at best so if he didn’t feel like he had to do everything for is to win maybe he would be top 10.
  50. TheNorm Says:
    You can’t fix accuracy issues. And that is what will hold him back from being above average.
  51. TheNorm Says:
    And he doesn’t make anyone around him better. The people he throws to would be great on any team.
  52. Tbbucs3 Says:
    The Norm
    “You can’t fix accuracy”, says who, you?
    You absolutely can fix accuracy and maybe Jamies will be more accurate when guys aren’t in his face right away and the only pass play we run is a 7 step deep route to Dinosaur arms Jackson.
    But saying you can’t get better with accuracy is a ridiculous statement.
  53. Ndog Says:
    First of all he is not inaccurate but let’s just assume he is. You say that can’t be improved yet his completion% has gone up each year of us career, soooooo.
    58.3
    60.8
    63.8
    64.7
    And keep in mind we have probably the least friendly offense for completion% in the league with almost zero screen passes, none of those little flip passes to guys coming in motion etc…
  54. AleteredEgo Says:
    For a #1 over all QB pick with 4 years of NFL experience Jamyth is sucking hind teat…there is good college ball being played today with QB’s with great touch and accuracy…wait until the Play Offs begin in 2 weeks,I don’t count wild card….everyone one of the play off QB’s will have great accuracy,touch,hit WR’s in stride, able to throw on time to the spot…
  55. Snook Says:
    Great. Another season of Jameis excuses from his blind followers.
    Top of the list will be “new system”.
  56. TheNorm Says:
    Completion percentages are up around the league as a whole.
    And this was his best year and he’s still number 22 in completion percentage.
    Like I said right now he is AVERAGE.
    @tb ucs3
    As of today right now he is an average QB. You all are talking future but I’m talking as of right now. AVERAGE
  57. TheNorm Says:
    @alterdego
    I don’t know why I even try and argue with these people. They are so blinded by their love affair its sickening.
  58. Season Is Over Says:
    Winston’s numbers are right there with Freeman’s. Look it up.
  59. TheNorm Says:
    @season is over.
    You’re right and these people talk about how bad freeman was but absolutely worship Winston when their numbers are very similar lol.
    Isn’t it hilarious? And ironic!
    But I’m sure they have plenty excuses to explain it away.
  60. Joe Says:
    Name another QB that took 5 years to blossom into a star.
    Rich Gannon for one
  61. TheNorm Says:
    Rich Gannon was not a “star” lmao.
    That’s funny.
  62. Grt1 Says:
    So Wentz lights it up but his back up plays better than him?
    Mahomes is lightning it up but wasn’t his team a playoff team last year and with one of the best coaches in our generation.
    Watson lighting it up with one of the best D in the league.
    Goff lighting it up with Gurley back there.
    Maybe they light it up because they have good teams.
    Man some of guys are just trolls.
  63. AlteredEgo Says:
    Snook … are you the same guy from the Ole St Pete Times Armchair QB message board ?
  64. Season Is Over Says:
    Freeman had almost double the comeback wins and more game-winning drives.
  65. TheNorm Says:
    Season is over
    Yep. Nailed it.
    But freeman was trash and Winston is an elite top 5 QB.
    Lmao.
    @grt1
    Those QB’s are better than Winston despite their team.
  66. Ndog Says:
    Ok guys we cut Jameis tomorrow who is going to come in and win with no running game, getting hit 10 to 12 times a game and needing to score 28 points with a crappy kicker? Serious question who is winning games under those circumstances?
    And BTW Jameis has better numbers than Drew Brees in his four years to answer your question which I actually do unlike you people who just call me names and make claims that I disprove time and time again.
  67. Jeagan1999 Says:
    TampaBay Demon:
    QB’s who I would consider as an “upgrade” over Jameis Winston: Brady, Brees, Rodgers….obviously, all Hall of Famers. Ryan, Rothlisberger, Mahomes, Rivers, Luck….MVP caliber players. Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Baker Mayfield, Dereck Carr, Dak Prescott…the new “young guns”. Cam Newton, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Matthew Stafford, Alex Smith(when healthy), Nick Foles…Proven veterans who can get it done.
    That’s 20 signal callers right there!
    Players in Winston’s range….JW(50+ games in and still major doubts about turnovers and off the field behavior), Mariota (health and consistency issues here too….but at least no off the field problems), Dalton (can’t seem to win the big game….but otherwise not a bad QB), Kirk Cousins (see Dalton) Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Goff, Turbisky, Jackson…too young to know for sure. The rest are the Bortles and Tannehills of the world.
    That puts Jameis somewhere in the 20-24 range for me. Hardly what I expected from a #1 overall pick who everyone said was “NFL ready”! I don’t see how we CANT draft another guy early! There’s absolutely no evidence that Winston is what we thought he was! And in a QB driven league, we can’t afford to keep up with a bottom third QB.
  68. AlteredEgo Says:
    Ndog. It was a completely different game in Brees first 4 years… I hope Jameis works out in the long haul. I am not seeing progress
    Besides, where is my previous post wrong? Is Jameis not a 20-25 QB compared to those other guys? Who would you move him ahead of on that list? All I’m saying is, we need an insurance policy. I’m all for bringing JW back for 1 more year. But I’m also for drafting another good young guy to develop behind him…just in case. I just haven’t seen enough fromJW to be convinced he will ever be more than what he is now.
  74. Ndog Says:
    Maybe you can’t trade but I correct you and your cronies daily, in fact multiple times on this post but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you make that up cause that’s all you do with Jameis as well.
  76. TheNorm Says:
    Forget the numbers.
    Answer this all knowing ndog.
    Does Winston make others around him better? Does he elevate the play of his peers?
    His offensive weapons would be great on any team. If a number one pick does not elevate and make Better the players around him then he isn’t worthy of the pick or the title of franchise QB.
    Done end of discussion because we know the answer to those two questions.
  77. TheNorm Says:
    Winston’s completion percentage is the best of his career and he’s ranked 22 in that category. Which makes him an average QB.
  78. TheNorm Says:
    Ndog
    Keep throwing out the completion percentage which places him 22nd in the league and then disagrees when we say he’s AVERAGE.
    LMAO you use a stat which literally shows and proves he’s average.
    What’s wrong with your post?????
    You said the below:
    QB’s who I would consider as an “upgrade” over Jameis Winston: Brady, Brees, Rodgers….obviously, all Hall of Famers. Ryan, Rothlisberger, Mahomes, Rivers, Luck….MVP caliber players. Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Baker Mayfield, Dereck Carr, Dak Prescott…the new “young guns”.     If you understand football there is no one on their right mind that would choose Manning, Flacco, Smith, Mayfield or especially Prescott over Jameis. Manning is straight trash as he has one of the best WR and RBs in the league and still sucks, Flacco has a great defense and running game and sucks, Smith has been moved on from by two teams cause he is check down Charlie, Mayfield is a freaking rookie that BTW has a good running game and defense yet still lost to Jameis head to head with our crap show team, and Newton can’t even throw the ball as he is basically a running back. So for you to post that just shows you have no clue what you are talking about. Not trying to insult you just telling you the truth, what you posted is pure garbage.
  80. Ndog Says:
    Norm do you not understand that when you throw the ball down the field more often your completion% is lower. Our offense is built like a 70s offense where as everyone else’s is built around the quick game with slants, screens, flip passes, smoke screens, quick outs. But no not us we throw deep dig routes, 9 routes, posts, deep comebacks all routes that require perfect timing, perfect protection, perfect route running. These are not excuses these are facts and if you watch the games, not just ours, it is clear our QBs our asked to do much more than any other QB in the league cause our offense is so antiquated. That’s why Dirk needs to go like yesterday.
  81. TheNorm Says:
    Being 22nd in completion percentage is also a fact which places him in the bottom half of the league. FACT lmao.
    You don’t acknowledge that fact you as usual just start making excuses lol.
    My god you are blind lol. I’m done with you. You’re lost.
    And glossed right over the question on if he elevates or makes people around him better. You just can’t bring yourself to accept the fact that Winston is AVERAGE.
  82. Ndog Says:
    Who was Adam Humphries and Cam Brate before they played with Jameis?
    Exactly
  83. Season Is Over Says:
    Last week I saw a delay of game on a designed QB sneak. This was directly after another delay of game that was nullified by a Dallas penalty.
  84. Ndog Says:
    And you gloss over every point (fact) and call them excuses. That is cause you actually don’t understand football and never will. But keep trying brother maybe one day you will get it, but I’m not holding my breath.
  85. Ndog Says:
    Season yes that was ridiculous and pissed me off but you can’t call that a “problem” per se cause as that has never happened before but again unacceptable no question.
  86. Ndog Says:
    I will leave everyone with one question.
    Please tell me the QB that has won with a bottom 5 defense, a bottom 5 running game and a bottom 5 kicking game?
    I’ll wait…
  87. Stanglassman Says:
    Ndog- most of these Jameis haters will never be convinced even when Jameis starts winning consistently. And He will too here or elsewhere. They’ll always see him as not smart enough, a thug black Qb. It’s the sad reality still today these people feel emboldened lately. Notice calling him “boy”, attacking his intelligence and comparing him to other failed black Qbs.
  88. Ndog Says:
    It’s just sad that this fan base is so poor.
  89. AlteredEgo Says:
    Lol… Stankassman jumps straight to racist smack… at least Ndog can formulate an argument
  90. TheNorm Says:
    Lmao there’s the race card lmao.
    I knew it was coming.
    Every single time. Never ever fails lmao.
  91. DBS Says:
    It’s just a shame we see the same BS. It was if we had started him not Fitz we would have won. HE gave us the best chance to win!!! Start him, Start him we will win. They did start him we did not get the wins. Now it’s IF, IF ,IF ,IF. So if and when he comes back it will be more losses and the same excuses. The first one? But he’s only 25.
  92. Ndog Says:
    Please tell me the QB that has won with a bottom 5 defense, a bottom 5 running game and a bottom 5 kicking game?
    I’ll wait…
  93. Jeagan1999 Says:
    Yeah, Ndog….there are plenty of people who understand football and would take all those guys I listed ahead of Jameis….myself included. Especially when you consider that all those guys you mentioned….Manning, Flacco, Smith, Prescott and Mayfield all have twice as many TD’s as INT’s this season! Last time I looked, Winston had 15 TD’s and 13 INT’s…nowhere near a 2:1 ratio, is it?
    But there is one stat that where Winston beats all the other QB’s in the league….# of 3 game suspensions by the league this year! Clearly a stat to be proud of!
    BTW…
  94. Season Is Over Says:
    Did Stanglassman complain about McCown and that circus masquerading as a NFL offense? Funny how that works.
  95. Ndog Says:
    I’ll ask again
    Please tell me the QB that has won with a bottom 5 defense, a bottom 5 running game and a bottom 5 kicking game?
    I’ll wait…
  96. Season Is Over Says:
    Didn’t Mayfield just show the world what Winston should have done? Mayfield has already matched Winston’s greatest accomplishment of a five game win streak. Mahomes?
    See this is why this team always sucks, indecision! We have a QB just focus on the rest of the team and get better overall. That’s how you win with a TEAM!!!
    Mike Glennon and Greg Schiano are on the line for you sir. Where were you 3 to 4 years ago when we needed to be patient? Oh that’s right, on the fake “franchise QB” hype train. Team is getting worse and you probably want the coach to just take the fall. Typical Bucs fan right there.
  98. MHBuc25 Says:
    Good news for you Ndog…..
    The Glazer family might still be on that same hype train as you and Winston will be the first QB in history to get 3 head coaches fired and survive, that’s some QB Houdini on steroids. The Glazer family is about the only NFL family where their QB can lie to them, help hemorrhage fans from the dwindling base, and they’ll still pay them to do it. Winston has escaped so many things…. namely bad QB’ing, off the field transgressions, but fooling the owners to get 3 head coaches canned in the end might take the cake. Good day though.
  99. Ndog Says:
    MHBuc25
    So you think hiring and then keeping Mike Smith was a good move? You think making DJax a captain after he fights coaches, falls asleep in meetings and requests to be traded was a good idea? You think letting Chris Baker do whatever he wants was a good idea? Yeah we should probably keep Dirk. Good call I love horrific defense, players quitting and laughing after a loss.
  100. Stanglassman Says:
    Lovie and Koetter. Who is the 3rd?
    If you’re so ill informed you don’t even know who the head coach is maybe you should work though your opinion more before sharing.
  101. firethecannons Says:
    2019 we need 1st round offensive tackle, beef up both lines and get decent coaching all along the specialties and try Winston–if he doesn’t work, then, in 2020 shoot the wad on a new QB.
  102. Tbbucs3 Says:
    As one of the few unbiased neutral voices on Jameis Winston on this website, I will say that the potential is there but the jury is still out.
    I agree firethecannons, why would we force a selection of a QB this year when there are other clear weaknesses that need to be addressed and there’s no stud quarterback.
    Anyone see Notre Dame get clowned by Clemson’s FOOTBALL team. And also there’s a heiman winning quarterback who is running for his life right now as we speak.
    Point is is that the Bucs have a pretty good quarterback right now and a pretty bad football team around him and addressing the o line, the runn8ng back position and the defense will need to be 1st priority. Starts with getting a better GM.
  103. Ndog Says:
    Tbbucs3 thank you for providing some common sense.
  104. Season Is Over Says:
    Most everyone is correct with their points. The team is so bad in parts that it is unable to be a whole at this point. It was over at Halloween. I knew the last games were not going to be a true measure for Winston as the team was not striving for the same goal. It was all BS lip service. The excuse was inevitable. Just as every excuse after another has been inevitable. No one wants Winston to fail. I want him to be Manning or Marino. It pains me to see the team rise during the 90’s to arrive where it is now. It baffles me to see the same mistakes week after week. At some point there must come evaluation.
    In some ways the team can not be fairly judged or evaluated. In others the faults are clear and not above reproach. Winston must improve his mobile target accuracy and consistency. This is not arguable in any way. Everyone has eyeballs. Tampa fans are not idiots and have always known when their teams are heading in the correct direction. Anyone suggesting otherwise is just simply incorrect. Being one, I will always come to their defense for that reason. For there to be anyone in the stands after the “Lost Decade” is a feat of its own. Financially, people are not going to be stupid and just waste money seeing something that doesn’t believe in itself.
    In the end, there is too much invested in Winston to give up. This is why he will be back. He has shown his weaknesses along with some strengths. I fail to see Koetter remaining as an OC for another coach. His body language has not told a good story. Do you see him playing ball? With that said, the excuse train starts all over again for Winston. This team can not afford for Winston to hold them down the next four years with mediocrity. He must become what they drafted him to be or more. He has been given every opportunity in the world. I call him Mr. Magoo because you never know when he forgets his glasses. It is just nonsensical how things just turn South out of the blue. I don’t know if he has trouble seeing or he simply makes mistakes.
    The window is closing quickly. Are the Bucs on the edge of greatness or historic humiliation? I, like every fan of this team, have a hard time knowing which is more attainable or likely at this point. To attack someone’s fandom after this crap show is just laughable. On another note, racists would not watch a sport that is mostly black athletes.
  105. Broy34 Says:
    Ndog you’re wasting your breath. He’s setting records for a qb in the amount of years or by age and people that clearly just read statistics and don’t understand the concept of defense kicking a run game and coaching truly buy in to espns first take narrative that just suggests quarterbacks r in sole control of the record. Someone said Flacco Eli and dak over Winston. I stopped once I got that far into it. What do those guys have in common? WAY better run games kicking defense in coaching. Another moron says he got theee guts fired yet there isn’t a third and Lovie went 6-10 with jameis after a 2 win season and somehow jameis got him fired. Here’s my question…where was everyone during the five game win streak? Silent. Why? We were running the football playing defense and had players bought in to the coaching. Crazy how that works. People mention all these stats and ignore jameis’. But it’s clear they don’t watch the games. Watch the patriots chiefs and bears and see how often they’re throwing 12 yard routes and throwing it down the field. They eat the clock and wear out the defense with 14 play drives of short passes and successful runs and keep the d fresh. Even when we score it’s fast and defense is right back on the field. This defense has played better but sure enough we have drives stall because we simply can’t run the ball in the trenches down deep in territory. Ndog I lived in NY and now me and my brother have families in Colorado and are die hard Bucs fans. We r just intelligent enough to see through stats and garbage storylines Espn has to talk about to get ratings on a Tuesday. Same exact Winston stats for the cowboys and he’s the most talked about player in the league. Truly imagine with the cowboys line and run game and throwing short passes. He’s so much better than Dak it’s laughable. I support Winston as my QB because I know that if u give him mcdaniels or even McCarthy and actually idk…PLAY YOUR SECOND ROUND RUNNING BACK and successfully block he will shine. And not being down by 14 if he doesn’t get the ball first would be nice as well
  106. Season Is Over Says:
    If you criticize Winston you don’t know about football? Just so I have this right. The smug Winstopologists?
    Everyone knows the list of excuses well at this point. No QB has a perfect situation. This is the end of year 4 from a No. 1 overall pick that has rarely been injured with the same system containing an elaborate array of weapons while the most popular Bucs blog is saying to tank the last game. Perennial disappointment. Is it too much to ask for meaningful football after Halloween?
  107. WalkdaPlank Says:
    Come on Joe, Rich Gannon was just a rich mans Brad Johnson. A game manager, and a fine one at that. A star? I think not. But for arguments sake let’s say he is. Is there another? I seriously can’t think of one.
  108. JIMMY T Says:
    Hey The Norm
    U can’t fix accuracy issues? WTF r u talking about? He has greatly improved his accuracy! Check the numbers YEAR over year !! He is VERY ACCURATE! This year around 66%!! If u r referring to 50 yard bombs Jameis has improved On those as well. He has hit EVANS for long pass plays multiple times this year so ENOUGH w “the Jameis isn’t accurate narrative”! U r 1000% wrong & also it’s getting old. This offense is designed with long routes that require a 5 to 7 step drop and then waiting for players to get open. How many times have u seen Jameis throw the ball long before the receiver make his cut ? That shows the confidence & knowledge he has w the receivers. That is from years of OTAS & after practice work! The DJAX issue is pretty simple, DJAX is a bad teammate & I am sure Jameis is NOT real fond of him. This TEAM does not need to start over with a new QB!! A new coach like Bruce Arians WILL utilize JAMEIS’s strengths for once! Amazing how good Jameis is throwing on the run YET KOETTER never calls for Jameis to roll out! Good coaches leave their ego and adapt their offense to the strengths of the players! Let’s see what a new staff can do with the DEFENSE & RUNNING game and draft properly instead of wasting picks on kickers! Jameis wants to be coached hard but a QB can’t do everything by himself!
  109. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Jeagan,
    Definitely understandable points that ya made on JW, and i appreciate the shout.
    I am fully aware that some of my belief in JW has alot to do with things that he has not fully done yet. Some players come into their own on different time frames than others. Jameis, for all his love of the game, had alot of immaturity on and off the field to overcome.
    I truly believe he is finally starting to round into who he is going to be. If it is what i think it will be… i want it to be HERE.
  110. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Norm,
    You are right that alot of numbers between JW and Josh Freeman are comparable, so far.
    The huge difference, for me anyway, is not about numbers.
    Josh was a selfish loafer who couldnt care less about the Bucs, his teammates, or us. All he cared about was the next party.
    JW has his heart and SOUL in this. He is literally giving it everything he has and bleeds for the Bucs and his teammates.
    Man, that is something that i can truly root for.
    Jameis may not make it.. and alot of you may be right.
    But yes, I am pulling for him hard to get it done right here in Tampa Bay.
  111. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Season Is Over,
    Man, your 11:04pm post is one of the best written and thoughtful ones as a BUCS fan, that i have read.
    I encourage others to check it out.
    I know we have had our disagreements, but Cheers, man…. and GO BUCS
